There is a wide range of diversity within both religion and spirituality, and the choice between the two is a deeply personal one and varies from person to person.“In the service of the Truth, religious teachings represent signposts or maps left behind by awakened humans to assist you in spiritual awakening, that is to say, in becoming free of identification with form.” — Eckhart Tolle.#Religion #Spirituality #InspiredLiving #MarcLainhart Visit the Inspired Living show page https://omtimes.com/iom/shows/inspired-living-radio/Connect with Marc Lainhart at http://www.marclainhart.com/Subscribe to our Newsletter https://omtimes.com/subscribe-omtimes-magazineConnect with OMTimes on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Omtimes.Magazine/ and OMTimes Radio https://www.facebook.com/ConsciousRadiowebtv.OMTimes/Twitter: https://twitter.com/OmTimes/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/omtimes/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/2798417/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/omtimes/

The role of religion and spiritual organisations in tackling the climate emergency is a huge opportunity for collective action, and we are seeing leaders of many religious institutions – including the Pope, and the Imams – speaking to their followers on the critical transformation required to live in balance with nature. But is the message landing? And are we understanding our role in this, as individuals and as members of the human collective, regardless of our faith? We have a power packed show, that will go wide and deep, where we will tackle the question - why is faith or organized religion an ally in the fight for a live-able climate? We'll discuss the idea of free will, the role religious institutions can have in tackling the emergency, the Interfaith opportunity, as well as the importance of Church leaders empowering and educating their representatives right down to the local level. We will also touch on war and the weaponization of religion, including how some faiths appear to be actively working against a live-able future and a better world. Our amazing line up of guests includes the esteemed Dr Bhupender Kaur, who is a medical director and volunteer doctor at UNITED SIKHS since 2010. Dr. Kaur has received widespread media coverage and acclaim, and has received several awards, including the Pride of Sikh Community Award (2003) and Bhushan Puraskar Award (2023), among others. Tim Wade, co-host of The Know Show, is a professional speaker and now in his final year studying a Masters of Divinity.Clare Westwood is a powerhouse in the climate movement, and regional director of the Roman Catholic Episcopal Commission for Creation Justice of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, and the Co-Founder and Executive Chair of Laudato Si' Asia – a Coalition for Culture of Care, Resilience and Ecological Justice (LSIA-CAREJ). And finally, Gracious Denis, who is the program officer for Gender Justice and Climate/Environment for the Church of Uganda, where he implements programs promoting gender justice, and addressing climate change and environmental degradation.Climate Courage is a livestream, held every two weeks and is co-hosted by Andrea T Edwards, Dr. David Ko and Richard Busellato. On the show, we cover critical topics across the full spectrum of the polycrisis, in everyday language, and we go big picture on the climate crisis, while also drilling down and focusing on the actions we can all take to be part of the solution. Whether individual action, community action, or national/global action - every single one of us can be part of ensuring a live-able future for our children and grandchildren. When many people think of the two words “religion” and “spirituality” nowadays they could have memes floating around in their minds and not clear and objective ideas. In this talk, we examine these terms from the ancient Vedic perspective. It is really difficult to cover such an important topic in an abbreviated way, and while this is quite a long talk we have not really covered the topic as extensively as we could have if there was more time. Here are the Vedic texts or verses I quoted: A worshiper who faithfully engages in the worship of the Lord in the temple (church) but does not behave properly toward other worshipers or people in general is called a prākṛta-bhakta, a materialistic devotee, and is considered to be in the lowest position. Bhāgavata Purāṇa 11.2.47 He is a perfect yogī who, by comparison to his own self, sees the true equality of all beings, in both their happiness and their distress, O Arjuna! Bhagavad-gita 6.32 He by whom no one is put into difficulty and who is not disturbed by anyone, who is equipoised in happiness and distress, fear and anxiety, is very dear to Me. Bhagavad-gita 12.15 “The Supreme Soul is very satisfied with the transcendentalist when they greet other people with tolerance, mercy, friendship and equality.” - Bhāgavata Purāṇa 4.11.13 The humble sage, by virtue of true knowledge, sees with equal vision a learned and gentle brahmana, a cow, an elephant, a dog and a dog-eater [outcaste]. Bhagavad-gita 5.18 A person is considered still further spiritually advanced when he regards the honest well-wishers, the affectionate benefactors, the neutral, the mediators, the envious, the friends and enemies, the pious and the sinners all with an equal mind. Bhagavad-gita 6.9 Everything animate or inanimate that is within the universe is controlled and owned by the Lord, Isvara. One should therefore accept only those things necessary for himself, which are set aside as his quota, and one should not accept other things knowing well to whom they belong. Śrī Īśopaniṣad mantra 1 Some look on the soul as amazing, some describe the soul as amazing, and some hear of the soul as amazing, while others, even after hearing about the spiritual being, cannot understand him at all. - Bhagavad-gītā 2.29 In this way the conditioned soul living within the body forgets his self-interest because he identifies himself with the body. Because the body is material, his natural tendency is to be attracted by the varieties of the material world. Thus the living entity suffers the miseries of material existence. Bhāgavata Purāṇa 7.13.28 One who is enlightened in self-realization, although living within the material body, sees himself as transcendental to the body, just as one who has arisen from a dream gives up identification with the dream body. Bhāgavata Purāṇa 11.11.8 This is the truth: As sparks of similar form spring forth by the thousands from a strongly blazing fire, so from the Absolute Truth are produced the various living beings, O gentle one, and there also do they go. - Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad 2:1:1 As tiny sparks fly from a fire, so all the individual souls have come from the Supreme. - Bṛhad-āraṇyaka Upaniṣad, 2.2.20 The same jīva is eternal and is for eternity and without a beginning joined to the Supreme Lord by the tie of an eternal kinship. He is transcendental spiritual potency. - Śrī Brahma-saṁhitā 5.21 He who sees systematically everything in relation to the Supreme Lord, who sees all living entities as His parts and parcels, and who sees the Supreme Lord within everything never hates anything or any being. - Śrī Īśopaniṣad mantra 6 The kirtan at the end is a cover of "All I want" by Kodaline

Sue Duffield's experience with Waffle House is such a fun and meaningful encounter - almost like church! Are you "scattered, covered and smothered?" The thought here is, she surely hopes you are! When we ask God to forgive us, His forgiveness comes not because we say, “I will do better”, but only on the basis of what Jesus did on the cross. No matter how awful we've been, the blood of Jesus is ENOUGH to cleanse, purify and save you...kind of like scattering your sin, covering your heart and smothering you with His goodness! God, the Father sent Jesus to suffer, bleed and die so that He can forgive you. Wow! Take a few minutes to bask in the Light of that statement.. www.sueduffield.com

“The Christian life is lived in the imitation of Christ. Through union with Christ, believers receive the fruit of Christ's own character. This is evident from the allusions to “the fruit of the Spirit” (Gal. 5:22) in Jesus' Upper Room Discourse. Jesus taught the disciples that they would share in His love (John 15:9–10), His joy (John 15:11; 17:13), and His peace (John 14:27). The fruit of the Spirit is the description of the primary attributes of Christian character. Jesus promised to send the Spirit as the Helper to impart this grace to His people. As the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit is the agent of producing Christ's love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, brotherly love, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control in the lives of all believers.” -Ligonier Ministries. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

If you are anything like me, you like to think of the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s & 60s as a movement that helped our country achieve, maybe not the entire dream that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. described, but at least something that was closer to that dream, something that showed we were on the right path toward fulfilling that dream. After all, didn't the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act get passed and implemented by the government? Haven't we seen great strides in the implementation of fair housing and lending? Hasn't segregation been relegated to the dark corners of our past? Unfortunately, this is a mythology that many of us would like to hold on to. The assassination of Dr. King in 1968 should have been enough to disabuse us of that mythology. And yet that mythology persists. In more recent years, it has been perforated and torn time and again by the abuse and murder of Black citizens by police and white supremecists: Rodney King, Trayvon Martin, Philando Castille, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Walter Scott, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Oscar Grant, Tamir Rice and so many more. These names represent our collective failure to realize King's dream of justice, equality and equity. Perhaps, if nothing else, these names help those of us in the white community to understand just how frayed and fractured that mythology of progress really is. And there is no place that I can think of that reveals the stark contrast between our hopes and their unfulfilled promise than the city of Birmingham, Alabama.  My guest today is Clay Cornelius, the owner and guide of Red Clay Tours in Birmingham, AL. How do we get to know cities that we visit? How do we get the lay of the land and find out what really happened there? Of course, we can visit monuments and historical sites, but that doesn't begin to fill in the canvas of a city. Clay is the sort of guide that will fill in that canvas with stories and historical detail that you can't get anywhere else. And that detail is especially important for a city as famous and infamous as Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham, as we know, played a huge role in the era of the civil rights struggle. It was the place of confrontation with Bull Connor, of tragedy with the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church and the deaths of four Black children. It was where Dr. King was jailed and wrote one of his most extraordinary writings, Letter from a Birmingham Jail. As I mentioned on a previous episode, I was part of a wonderful civil rights pilgrimage with a group from Westminster Presbyterian Church here in Olympia, WA. And Clay was our guide when we were in Birmingham and as you will hear, he is a fount of knowledge about Birmingham and its history.Books Mentioned in this episode:“Carry Me Home” by Diane McWhorter  “But for Birmingham: The Local and National Movements in the Civil Rights Struggle” by Glenn Eskew “A More Beautiful and Terrible History” by Jeanne Theoharris

Sometimes God gives us a barrel of obnoxious, tricky and annoying monkeys. He watches what we do with them. This barrel could be a tough marriage, raising a difficult toddler, a stress producing job, terminal sickness, addictions, or physical or mental illnesses. There are a lot of assorted barrels out there, and that's no easy game. Sue Duffield's mother was the master "Barrel of Monkeys" toy game winner! She'd kill it, with her precision and ease of scooping up the monkeys one by one, saying, “Don't ever let a monkey drop; keep your eyes on the very last monkey - watching to grip the next one, and so on…” she'd say.  The comical yet sincere challenge in this episode is to come out of the chaos and into God's order who spoke the world into existence. Find rest in Him from the anxieties and stresses and throw out the weight that those aggrivating barrel of monkeys produce! www.sueduffield.com

Host, Sue Duffield, recalls the first time meeting this young leader as far back as the Pocono Mountain Bible Conference days, remembering just how special John was and is to this day. What an entertaining, enjoyable, informative and connecting conversation this episode is.. Take notes. John holds degrees in Bible, Education, and Counseling, is a certified speaker, trainer and coach with the John Maxwell Team, and serves as the Lead Pastor of Core Creek Community Church in Langhorne, PA. John is also an adjunct professor at Cairn University, where he teaches courses on church planting, theology, and counseling, and he serves as the Director of the National Mission Board which is a ministry that is focused on church planting and church health. It doesn't matter what religion you believe in, or do not believe in, this is a great podcast episode for anyone who wants to understand their connection to a higher power and what that might mean for you. It doesn't matter if you are Muslim, Christian, or even an Atheist, Dr. Rob and Jason have some answers for you.    TAKEAWAYS: [2:05] A little bit about Jason and how he found Dr. Rob and his clinic.  [3:00] Although Jason studied Christianity and comes from that background. How does he work with people of other faiths?  [5:55] How does Jason help people work with some of their regrets and the things they did that went against their religious and moral beliefs?  [7:40] It's not about failing God, it's about failing yourself.  [11:05] How do you find your way back to God/religion?  [17:25] What about the people who do not have any religion or faith? How does Jason navigate that?  [18:00] In the 12-step program, you need some kind of faith. How do atheists manage or stay sober?  [23:20] It all comes down to your connection with others. Unfortunately, a lot of religious communities have forgotten this aspect.  [29:20] Dr. Rob feels like a lot of people are not welcomed in their religious communities and people then feel compelled to hide their shame and imperfections.  [35:15] As you share your secrets in a safe community, people in recovery get to experience something really beautiful for the first time. [39:25] Your recovery program works if you work it. Jason is proof of that.    RESOURCES: Sex and Relationship Healing @RobWeissMSW Sex Addiction 101  Seeking Integrity Cruise Control: Understanding Sex Addiction in Gay Men  Prodependence: Moving Beyond Codependency Out of the Doghouse by Robert Weiss   QUOTES: “The spirituality of 12-step recovery is all inclusive. There is no discrimination against certain religions.” “Often times a spirituality of a person is that it's just me and God alone. I can take God off the shelf and I can put God on the shelf. And usually I put God on the shelf whenever I act out.” “I have friends who are atheists who are long-time sober and don't believe in God. Religion or any of that, is not necessary to work the recovery program to stay sober.”

How in the world could that heavy metal door just bend and mold itself around the stationary telephone pole with amazing ease? This question answered, plus a whole lot of levity and spiritual honesty, comes at the expense of a crazy car mishap and that telephone pole. That not-so-euphoric experience was a conversation piece for some time until Jeff Duffield, Sue's husband, had his own "come-to-Jesus-meeting" with a vehicle and a container pole at an ice cream stand. But that's another story... One of Sue's favorite song's lyric says, "Move me with Your message once again, and bend my heart once more around the tree..." (written by Brandt Gillespie) (Bend my heart once more around the tree? What could that mean?)  Here's a few interpretations, talked about on this episode:  1. Mold my heart around the cross, the stationary immovable depiction of a painful, gruesome method of execution? How strange.. 2. Take my most prized life-sustaining organ and exchange it for God's act of love in Christ's sacrifice? How weird is that?? 3. Better yet, live each day with a "cross" impression on my heart, much like a piece of metal bending around a telephone pole?? Sounds somewhat foolish.. Sue Duffield believes it makes perfect sense to those who, for the Kingdom's sake, desire hearts that are bent over backwards, forwards, sideways or whatever it takes, to make a "God impression" in this world. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” 1 Corinthians 1:18-19 www.sueduffield.com

Are we finding the old stories might no longer work in our perception of life today? Is the word God bringing up emotions or resistance that has been handed down from generations within a family structure and you are expected to do what had been handed to you to follow in growing up?What if everything you know, isn't? Are you open to explore your life experience?Even if everyone has a different point of view and follows different truths, perhaps what we are all seeking is the greater acceptance of all? If you can picture Sue Duffield in a kayak adrift in the middle of a lake without a paddle, then that memory and depiction could coincide with a spiritual revelation that, quite frankly, is evident of many ministries, non-profits and Christian leaders today. Adrift. They've either lost their paddle or their anchor. This episode gives fair warning to those who have forsaken their original calling. There's reasons why some believers literally just drift away. But there's also a biblically prophetic reason too, that in the end times - some will just fall away. Be encouraged and be strengthened by not letting your missional calling drift.  Also mentioned on this episode is the book, "Mission Drift - The Unspoken Crisis Facing Leaders, Charities and Churches", written by Peter Greer and Chris Horst, available on Amazon. This is a useful book for key leaders in churches, pastors, nonprofit agencies, and social service agencies. "Drift Ye Not!" www.sueduffield.com

Where Religion and Spirituality Intersect w/ Iman TuckerThis is probably my favorite and the most important episode I've recorded to date! As a teenager, he was diagnosed with stage 4 Burkitt's Lymphoma, which he overcame. He then got a college scholarship to run track and achieved his MBA. After college, he built a 7 figure technology company, started a faith-based retail company, and is an NBA and NCAA DJ that performs and travels the country doing what he loves. On top of all of that, he is an avid follower of Christ. Now to be completely honest, whenever I usually meet someone that considers themselves to be religious, I brush them off. Something about the way that Iman carried himself connected with me, and I knew I had to speak with him. Iman understands religion at its core and lives his life in service of others with love at the core. It was crazy how similar our values were, yet they came from completely different belief systems. During our conversation, we discuss the idea of God from his Christian perspective and from the perspective that I've developed through my work with plant medicines.
