Retail is changing fast and COVID-19 will change the landscape further. Traditional big box stores and malls are shrinking or closing, while Amazon grows. But not everyone is running scared. Mark Ghemezerian's mega malls and businesses are moving away from traditional retail stores and into more experiential offerings like food, entertainment and unique experiences. And now Mark has taken it one step further starting a new concept called "Fourpost", a curated collection of micro stores and eateries.
In this week's Fast Five podcast, sponsored by Trigo, Chris Walton, Anne Mezzenga, Carter Jensen and Emma the Intern are together again to discuss the end of Brandless and Fourpost, Pinterest upping its e-commerce game, Starbucks' new plans for airports, and one of the biggest WTF's of all time -- Dirty Lemon is now in Walmart? If you've ever needed an office for a new company, you might have gone to a company like WeWork. If you were looking for a retail space, an intriguing option is Fourpost, a company taking something that is commoditized and turning into something that is elevated and transforming it by integrating content, customer experience, and what looks like a white glove, plug and play retail opportunity. CEO and Founder Mark Ghermezian, who’s deconstructing the retail space into a kind of incubator for brick and mortar, shares how Fourpost looks at creating experiences, seeks out innovation, and why this model could play an important role in the next generation of physical retail.
