Kicking off the podcast, the guys started the show with a collection of random topics, including Sidney Crosby's career earnings, what the Oilers may do at the trade deadline, and some hip hop talk. Why is that how the podcast started? It's a fair question, but also completely expected, given the way this show goes. Changing gears, Tyler told the story about interviewing Chris Pronger this morning at West Edmonton Mall. Despite Wanye's complaints about the way Pronger's tenure in Edmonton ended, Tyler explained how cool it was to interview an NHL Hall of Famer and ask a few questions about the 2006 Cup run. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the first show of the week with more random topics, including which WEM entrance we park at and why Tyler should never cross Wanye for any reason. Despite having topics prepped for this week's show, this one was one of those podcasts where the guys got to none of them at all. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

With the praising of Pat out of the way, the conversation turned to Wanye's trip to Moose Jaw from last weekend. Even though that trip had nothing to do with anything, the guys still spent 20 minutes talking about it anyway. After discussing everything from Mac the Moose to the Al Capone tunnels, the conversation somehow turned to West Edmonton Mall and how much Bourbon Street has changed over the last two decades. Finally getting to the Oilers, the guys looked at last night's win over the St. Louis Blues and how that game was both thrilling and frustrating at the same time. We bring on Top 40 Under 40 CRO of Free Play for Kids Sonny Sekhon on the podcast to discuss different ways of giving back, challenges of parenthood and much more. Sonny Sekhon had what he thought was the perfect job. For over a decade, he was the general manager of Edmonton's flagship Henry Singer store, helping to clothe what he calls some of the “superstars” of Edmonton. But, when his son, Banner, was born, he thought about what the job meant to him. And it led to what he calls one of the hardest conversations he's ever had, with Fred and Jordan Singer. He decided to leave his post. “I've had the benefit of helping superstar people,” says Sekhon. “And one thing they would always say is that they wished they had spent more time, in the early days, with their little ones. You make an extra deal, you make five extra grand, 20 years later, what's that really worth when your kids are grown?” Sekhon has been a long-time volunteer, and now board member, with the famous Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament, held annually at West Edmonton Mall. With an extensive file of contacts from his time as a clothier, he moved into a revenue-generating role with Free Play for Kids, a program that offers after-school childcare through free sports programming to families in need. During the school year, coaches and mentors travel to 24 different schools to introduce kids to a variety of sports. After a major shortfall last December cut Free Play for Kids' budget in half, he was able to raise $100,000 in new funds, mainly from auto dealers. He's helped bring in $600,000 in annual funding from the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, and deepened the organization's relationship with the Oilers, most notably with Free Play Ambassador Darnell Nurse. “In some cases, families have left war-torn Syria or Afghanistan with nothing. We see the emotion and the joy with the parents, because their kids are safely able to kick a ball around. I don't know if I'd ever be in a position to financially write a cheque to make a difference. For me, putting my sweat equity into it and making partnerships that continue to grow, to give those opportunities to kids, to change sport, it's awesome.” This episode is brought to you by Q Filmz Media - We propel businesses into the digital media space. The off-season has only just begun and the boys were looking for things to talk about, which meant another random episode of the Real Life podcast to help you wrap up your week.To kick off the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a quick recap of the World Championships after Canada picked up a gold medal over Germany in yesterday's tournament finals. When Baggedmilk confessed that he didn't know the tourney was wrapping up until he saw it playing at Muggnz, leading the guys to argue about breakfast for the next 10 minutes. Changing gears, Tyler told a story about going to see his first ever comedy show this past weekend, leading the guys to talk about varying reasons they'd like to get drunk at West Edmonton Mall. Somehow the conversation about WEM led the guys to complain about Slurpees again since their go-to spot didn't have any of their machines working properly. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a hockey clip game after Electronic Jordan submitted a 19-second clip of an Oilers game from 2014 that both Tyler and Chalmers had to figure out based on nothing but the short video. Megan Whitmer is a married mom of 5 kids. Megan recently published a book called, Mom Life vs the Everyday Apocalypse. On our podcast this week, we talked with Megan a bit about her book. When I was reading her book, one of my favorite chapters was called “My Favorite Hallway.” Megan explained to us that there was a hallway in her last house that would cast a layer of shadows as she walked by. The inner most shadow made her think about who she really was in the inside with out the layers of motherhood and expectations from herself and others. She says:“Sometimes the ideal is not what society tells us, but who we have become as a person, as a soul, as a spirit.”She went on to explain that she is allergic to most make up. She had to go off make up for a year. It was really hard for her when she would get comments of concern, “are you sick?” She says:“I'm trying not to care how I look and remember I'm a child of God. Make up does not define me. But I still breakdown sometimes. It's an up and down struggle. The ideal is not what society tells us, but who we have become as a person, a soul, a spirit. As women trying to make ourselves beautiful to fit the mold, we go through crazy things until we understand about ourselves. Make up is not bad, but there are other things we do that can damage us. It can change our spirit. It is interesting to really look at ourselves and what we do to ourselves. Should we do those things?”When finding the humor in mom life, Megan looks to a few things to help her look on the bright side:It could be worse! She plays a game with herself thinking of all the horrible ways the situation could be more awful than it is. For example, if you get an unexpected bill in the mail, maybe you think, “at least my family isn't infected with tape worms.” Another example, if someone cuts her off on the freeway, she imagines the person has their wife laboring in the back of the car with triplets and they need to rush to the hospital.Gratitude: find things you are grateful for and focus on the positiveLook back to your ancestors. What hard things have they conquered or gone through? Looking at our family in this way can show us that we are resilient! We can get through tough times. We love to ask our guests 3 Helpful and Happy Questions on our podcast to get to know our guests a bit better. Our first question was about Megan's favorite food. She said she loves popovers! We talked about how similar those are to German Pancakes, which we have a delicious recipe for on our blog!German Pancake MuffinsWe also talked a little bit about travel. One of her favorite vacations is going back home to Canada to visit her family there and visit the biggest mall in the world: West Edmonton Mall in Alberta.Lastly we asked if she had any home hacks, and she told us one of her favorite ones was to chop up and freeze onions and peppers for future use. These can be useful in so many recipes! Here are a few of our favorite ways to use frozen onions and peppers:Sheet Pan FajitasVegan Veggie Stir FryOur Favorite Chicken Apple Sausage Sheet Pan DinnerWhere can we find more from Megan Whitmer:Website: www.meganwhitmerbooks.comInstagram: Megan Whitmer Books (@meganwhitmerbooks) • Instagram photos and videosTik Tok: MeganWhitmerBooks (@meganwhitmerbooks) TikTok | Watch MeganWhitmerBooks's Newest TikTok VideosGrab Megan's Book HERE!
