We continue our summer series, Parables: Small Stories, Big Ideas. The story of our focus today is the Parable of the Laborers. Many people think that this story is about fairness but in truth Jesus is addressing the fact that his hearers are not really hearing what he is telling them. Picture it.....God came to earth and told stories to people about HIS KINGDOM and all they could think about was their own lives. What is amazing is that God did not leave them in their foolishness, he was, as he promised so often, slow to anger and full of compassion. May you sense that reality for yourselves and your community this morning. May you find yourselves at the footstool of his throne of Grace.
There are several things going on this morning. The first and obvious one is that we will be celebrating the sacrament of Holy Communion. If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he did conquer death and hell for you and if you feel Him tugging on your heart’s sleeve then please join in. We will also take some time to remember the compassion of God to Wes and Linda P. and their family and also to us here at GNF for sparing his life one year ago and giving him back to us. Lastly we’ll continue our summer series “Parables: Small Stories, Big Ideas”, with a look today at the parable of the five wise and five foolish virgins who went out to meet the bridegroom. Don’t worry, by the end of this morning’s service it will make more sense to you. (I hope.) May you find a blessing of Peace and Grace this morning as we take time to turn our hearts towards God.

There are two implications to believing ourselves as created by a good, powerful, intelligent God. First, that we are inherently valuable, and second, that we are ultimately accountable. On the other hand, those that believe they are simply products of a process of evolution may see themselves as free of accountability before God, but they will also have a difficult time believing their lives are inherently valuable. Today, our regular guest speaker, Roger S will share his thoughts with us as we continue our “New Life”series.
Listen to the witnesses to the life of faith: they are challenging us by their examples to run the race God has set before us - they are saying that it is possible and, from their vantage point, it is well worth it. They point us to Jesus who initiates faith in us and who equips our faith to go the distance. Today we wrap up our series on faith with our regular guest speaker, Roger S.
This morning we continue our series on faith with special guest speaker, Pastor Kasey V. Kasey is a pastoral candidate visiting GNF this weekend with his wife, Liz. Today, with Kasey, we will take a closer look at Rahab the prostitute, "your God is God". We will look at both the belief and the actions or deeds that such belief encourages and promotes.
This morning, we continue with our series on faith with the story of Moses. In early encounters with God, such as Moses at the burning bush, we see a man who is more fearful than faithful. But Hebrews 11 gives us what God sees. Can any of this apply to us? Have we ever considered what God sees when He looks at us? Today we will have an opportunity to think about these questions.
We continue our series on Faith with our regular guest speaker, Roger S. Today we ll learn, from the story of Abraham, more about what an obedient faith looks like and what it requires. An obedient faith displays readiness and requires complete trust. An obedient faith also displays patience and requires a heavenly focus.
This morning, we begin a new series of talks based upon Hebrews 11, often called the faith chapter. We try to answer the question, "What is faith?" Is it a blind leap into some sort of religious experience? Does it have anything to do with our reason? Or is there some certainty for our faith? Join us today as we examine some of the ideas we may have
As we consider the goals and hopes we have for the new year we may be optimistic or pessimistic that they will be realized, but the God who created us has His own goals for us and offers us a hope that we can depend on. One of His goals is that we come into a secure, unconditionally loving relationship with Him as His child. If our hearts are ready He will call us into that kind of relationship with Him. Such a relationship enables us to face 2013 with hope. Join with us today in celebration as we ring in the new year with our annual combined.

While Jesus is the greatest gift given to God’s people, there are difficulties in receiving Him as our gift. The first involves accepting the Bible as being historical and Jesus as being God incarnate. The second involves our prideful expectation that similar to that of the first century Jews, God would send a deliverer who would save us from the sin of our world. Instead, Jesus comes to save us from our sin. When we by faith believe in what the New Testament says of Him and with humility accept the purpose of His coming we will joyfully benefit from the gift He is to us.
This morning is our final look at the book of James. And the last verses of the book of James are about the power of prayer. James writes, "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops." Today we examine these statements and look at what the story of the prophet Elijah can show us about prayer.
Christians are commanded to be patient with those who oppress us and those who make our lives difficult. This does not mean excusing wrong behavior; for God never does. Rather it involves withholding judgment and extending grace while putting our hope not in people but rather in christ and his return.
The Bible teaches that though material wealth is a blessing from God it can become a curse to our spiritual lives if we allow it to so take hold of our hearts that we become calloused toward those we have a responsibility to serve and provide for. in order to heed the warning we must learn to see wealth from an eternal perspective and to give of it obediently and cheerfully.
