SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:9 / Luke 11:1-2SHOW NOTES: For encouragement on your spiritual journey, we invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, where you can access additional resources to enrich your Walk with God. Prayer is a vital part of our Christian life. We communicate with our Heavenly Father and seek His wisdom, guidance, and direction. Jesus' disciples traveled with Him for three years. They listened to His teachings, witnessed His miracles, and heard Him pray. Many times, He would go off to pray in the evening or early morning hours. In today's lesson, the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray. He responds with the prayer we often call The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-15) or The Disciples' Prayer (Luke 11:2-4). This prayer is the example or model Jesus gave to His disciples. One day, Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of his disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name.'” Luke 11:1-2 God's "name" reflects His nature. Jesus called God His Father. We also call Him our Heavenly Father to give Him glory and praise. "But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy." 1 Peter 1:15 SONG: "Song of the Saints" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmrbS8pI6HU&list=RDNmrbS8pI6HU&start_radio=1

There is no better way than to begin the work week with prayer! On this episode of 2Days Denarius, a prayer from Puritan David Clarkson is provided to give listeners encouragement and added focus on the Lord to better serve Him in their endeavors. David Clarkson was a Puritan who served as an associate to the great John Owen. He also understood trials since he was one of more than 2,000 Puritan ministers who suffered great loss during England's "Great Ejection" in 1662. This prayer concentrates on believer's seeking Christ's righteousness, while also helping us to realize that putting Jesus first in our lives is far greater than anything this world has to offer. This prayer comes from Robert Elmer's excellent collection of Puritan prayers noted in the bibliography below. How do you even begin to talk to God when life is unfolding in ways you never wanted? What can prayer do when the pain feels unbearably raw and deep? For Rachel Wojo, these questions became deeply personal. She never could have imagined the depth of suffering she would walk through—navigating her daughter's terminal diagnosis and eventual passing, enduring betrayal in a first marriage that ended in divorce, and losing her mother in her twenties and her father while writing her book, Desperate Prayers: Embracing the Power of Prayer in Life's Darkest Moments. Pain came from every direction. And yet, in her desperation, Rachel discovered strength through raw, honest conversations with God.In this episode, Davey and Rachel talk about the wrestlings that come with a difficult diagnosis, the vital role of prayer in our darkest seasons, and how remembering God's past faithfulness can help us move forward through grief and heartbreak. If you've ever struggled to find the words to say to God in your most desperate moments, this conversation will remind you that you don't need perfect prayers—just an honest heart willing to keep reaching for Him, even in the pain. SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:1-8 SHOW NOTES: For encouragement on your spiritual journey, we invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, where you will find additional resources to enrich your Walk with God. We look for lessons and examples from Scripture to guide our walk with God. In the first part of this series, “The Power of Prayer,” we examined many examples from the Old Testament. Now, we turn to the pages of the New Testament. In today's lesson, we will explore Jesus' words in Matthew 6. Jesus warns the disciples about hypocrisy. Yes, we are to live righteous lives, but “Watch out!” “You are the light of the world … let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father” (Matthew 5:14-16). We are to perform good deeds openly in front of a watching world, not for our praise, but to draw attention to our Heavenly Father and give Him glory!"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others." Matthew 6:5Again, “Do not be like the hypocrites.” He references the Pharisees and Sadducees, the two main religious groups. They are obsessed with what others think of them. They seek recognition for their “good and righteous acts.”We pray for the same reasons children talk to their parents. We share concerns. We have a relationship and seek fellowship. We want help when facing tough times and confusing situations in life. Children need the wisdom of a Father and Mother. "Lord, hear my prayer! Listen to my plea! Do not turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen and answer me quickly when I call to you." Sometimes we think God can't handle our honesty. Today, pastor Ray Bentley says he can. There come times in your life where you can't fold your hands and say nice little spiritual prayers. And in fact, if you're really going to get honest with God, you don't want people to hear. God loves that kind of prayer. God gives you literal, tangible evidence that I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Talking to God is a privilege. Pastor Ray Bentley says Scripture puts it high on our priority list. The Bible says pray without ceasing. I say, well, yeah, okay, that's got to be a metaphor, right? Well maybe not. We almost incessantly spend time worrying and being anxious if there's something that bothers you. It's important. While Almighty God, if it affects you, he wants to hear about spreading you.

I was sitting in my convertible Mercedes, staring up at the dark, starry night, anxiety and worry filling my heart. I figured Heaven was somewhere up there. I said, “God, if You are up there, all I want is inner peace. Please help me.” ---------- John Sottosanti had everything—success as an oral surgeon, a beautiful home steps from the San Diego beach, and a Mercedes in the garage. But one by one, it all unraveled. Fraud, unexpected lawsuits, and even a car that seemed possessed, threw his life into chaos. Desperate for peace, John whispered a simple prayer—and God answered in ways he never imagined. His journey led him to the 500 mile Camino in Spain, and a life-changing supernatural encounter in a small chapel along the way. Courage and the Power of Prayer
You might be pretty good about praying for others, but do you also ask others to pray for you? Both are important in our daily walk, and we see that modeled for us by the apostle Paul. Today on a Daily Walk pastor John Randall reveals how Paul didn't shy away from asking the church to pray for him and the work of the ministry! And we shouldn't either. Let's turn to Colossians chapter four and take a look at what the conduct and conversation of the Christian should be! God's Spirit can bring us lasting and complete peace, no matter the circumstances. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses the need for gratitude in our daily lives. When we practice thankfulness to God for His perfect character and provision, He gives us His peace—a peace that surpasses understanding. Pastor Allen teaches about the biblical foundation for a gratitude that dispels anxiety, as well as how to live out this biblical idea. Additionally, he shares about the consequences of ungratefulness we see throughout the Bible. We can be secure in God's peace when we give expression to thankfulness.
What would you say you're devoted to these days? Would it be entertainment or work and money… or maybe you're family? But how many of us would actually say we're devoted to prayer? In chapter four verse two we read, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” It's a rather brief statement, but it's packed with helpful instruction for our daily walk. SHOW NOTES. We are taking a mid-summer break this week. Our weekly podcast, Walk with God, will return next week as we continue the current series, “The Power of Prayer.” Spend some time reading Psalm 27 and listening to the song, “The Lord is My Light” (link below). * Please Note: Original photo shown above is by Ethan Robertson on Unsplash. Psalm 27 Audio Reading is from the World English Bible (WEB) translation on Audio Treasure (link).SCRIPTURE: Psalm 27 – Prayer of David (NIV).1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. 4 One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. 6 Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord. 7 Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. 8 My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. 9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. 11 Teach me your way, Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. 13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. This episode marks a milestone—400 episodes of Gospel Spice! In this special group conversation, Stéphanie Rousselle welcomes Angel Omoruan, Ros Evans, and Lindsay Sterious to reflect on God's enduring goodness, the landscape of inner growth, and the beauty of vulnerability within Christian community. Stephanie and her friends reflect on the importance of serving “the one,” being open to “hidden spaces” where ministry might not be grand but is deeply significant. God's presence is not limited to moments of solitude or to times of communal support. Both are necessary, and God moves in each. Big announcement! Sign up for our Prayer Course at gospelspice.com/prayer The Power of Community: The “Turtle Formation” Ros kicks things off by revisiting her journey toward understanding her true nature as an introvert. Despite often appearing energetic and talkative, she recognizes that she draws strength from solitude. She introduces the term “turtling”—retreating inward to recharge. Introversion isn't a weakness or escape, but a necessary, God-given rhythm for many. The “turtle formation” provides a picture of believers locking arms, forming a shield for one another in times of attack or weakness. Lindsay and Ros share stories of community prayer sustaining them in difficulty. Ros notes, “find the people who are willing to turtle with you…that is needed to stand firm in truth.” “Turtling” can become unhealthy when it turns into disengagement and numbness. While retreating is sometimes needed for healing and reflection, it must be balanced with healthy connection to God and others. In prolonged withdrawal, we risk isolation and disconnection from the very relationships that God uses for our spiritual growth. God's Lessons through Life Transitions and Challenges Angel relates to Ros's introversion, recounting how recent life changes exposed emotions she hadn't faced before. Like Ros, she found that retreating—turtling—was partly God's way of protecting her and prompting introspection. However, she also describes God's gentle promptings to re-engage with others, learn to lament, extend grace, and embrace vulnerability. Angel brings in the “turtle formation” used by Roman soldiers. This image of locked shields captures how Christian community can protect and carry one another. There's wisdom in both knowing when to retreat for healing and when to rejoin the ranks for mutual encouragement. Community as Spiritual Armor Lindsay adds her own testimony of being “carried” by her community through a difficult season involving her daughter's health. She describes a profound experience of being prayed for—allowing herself to be vulnerable, supported, and reminded that the body of Christ is meant to shield one another. This spiritual “turtle formation” is a source of strength, comfort, and tangible experience of God's care. The Value of Vulnerability Angel reflects on the difficulty—and gift—of being vulnerable, especially when God calls us to serve. She shares that being present and obedient in the small, unnoticed moments often becomes a blessing, not only for others, but for ourselves. By being honest, especially when we struggle, we open space for God to work uniquely through us. Ros sums it up: “when you know the Holy Spirit has you at a place in a moment, you forget about everything…and by the time I finish, the person's getting blessed and I'm getting blessed too.” Stephanie highlights how we often wait for “big” moments, but Jesus values our faithfulness in serving the “one”—whether a child, a mentee, or a congregation member. She remarks, “let's just focus on what really, really matters,” echoing the importance of focusing on small daily acts of love and service. God in the Quiet and in the Crowd The Christian walk is not about perfection, but humility, honesty, and interdependence. Whether you're serving quietly, struggling privately, or standing “in turtle formation” with others, God sees, sustains, and works through it all. Be encouraged to walk vulnerably, faithfully, and together. Key Takeaways: Embrace your God-given temperament (introvert or extrovert). Healthy retreats (“turtling”) are vital, but must be balanced with intentional connection. Vulnerability—within safe community—unveils God's love and the power of prayer. Spiritual battles are not fought alone; we lock shields through fellowship and humility. God uses both quiet moments and community engagement to reveal His goodness and grace. Challenge: This week, ask God where you might need a healthy retreat—and where you might need to step back into community to “lock shields” with others. Practice vulnerable honesty, and remember that God is present both in your shell and on the battlefield. Details and registration here: https://www.gospelspice.com/prayer There are a few things in our Christian life that we know we should do more, or at least better – and prayer just might top the list. Prayer is a mystery. Why would a conversation with a human have any influence on God's eternal, sovereign plan? It defies logic, and beckons love. How can God, the Almighty Lord of Hosts, be this close, this personal? It defies understanding, and beckons involvement. But, lack of time, inspiration, and discipline, combined with the ruthless tyranny of our busy lives, push prayer to the periphery, to the “one day I'll get to it” pile. And yet, we can excel at what we endeavor to undertake. So, why isn't prayer more of a spiritual priority? Could we develop a mindset around prayer that made it attractive, inspiring, even maybe delightful? What if we attuned our spiritual ears to listen to God, and our spiritual eyes to see His provision? As an unassuming student, I'm going to humbly offer to share the little I have learned from others about the joy of prayer. I will give us theology, practical tips, and useful resources, sharing what works for me as we, together, learn to pray. If you find prayer intimidating, or if your lack of prayer makes you feel guilty or “less than,” then this is the place for you! If you have been a student of prayer for many years, this is the place for you too! If you have breath in your lungs, then prayer can become one of the deepest joys of your day. Don't miss out! A PERSPECTIVE ABOUT PRAYER To pray is to believe that God not only hears, but that He responds. It is to stand in the gap for a broken world, wielding the authority of Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and trusting in the goodness of the Father. The question is not whether prayer works, but whether we are willing to pray the kinds of prayers that invite God's Kingdom into the darkest places of the earth—and of our own hearts. We may never fully understand the mechanics of prayer, or how it intersects with God's sovereignty, but we are not called to understand everything. We are called to be faithful. And faithfulness means showing up—in prayer, in persistence, in expectation. So today, let us pray not only for the comfort of our hearts, but for the transformation of the world. Let us take our place as image-bearers, co-laborers, and co-heirs. Let us believe that God is still listening—and still acting. Because He is. There's only one way to find out what might happen when we truly pray like this. Let's begin. THE MINDSET BEHIND THIS COURSE Before we begin, let me tell you the obvious: I don't really know how to pray. I'm a humble student and absolute beginner at the holy endeavor that is prayer. So, this course isn't really about what I've learned, or any wisdom I might have gathered. But, I've sat at the feet of many prayer warriors over the decades, through books and teachings. So, I'll share what I learned from them. Humility is going to be our primary heart posture! With each lesson, I will offer a few thoughts, practices, and ideas – with much humility, and not taking myself too seriously. I will also share her favorite books and resources about prayer. FInally, I will introduce you to some of the most influential prayer warriors of our history as the Body of Christ. Most importantly, I will invite YOU to pray! Learning to pray comes from praying. Our humble ambition is to inspire you to pray, and to give you a few tips on how to do that. Then, it's up to you! Prayer is a lifelong endeavor. Let's make it delightful together! So, let's get started. You are invited to join us on the Gospel Spice Prayer Bible Study, titled "The heart behind prayer" starting September 20, 2025! Lama Zopa Rinpoche explains how the tea offering to the eight groups of worldly devas can help stop natural disasters, such as extreme weather events. He recalls a time when he was at the Taipei Center in Taiwan during a typhoon. As the wind was pummeling the windows, he asked a geshe to do the tea offering. As soon as the offering was done, the wind stopped. Rinpoche adds that if the person is living in more pure morality, it has more power. Rinpoche advises to do the tea offering before building a house, starting a project, or travelling.Rinpoche continues bestowing the oral transmission of The Confession of Downfalls to the Thirty-Five Buddhas, beginning with Infinite Splendor. He outlines how each Buddha purifies negative karma.Rinpoche says that reciting the names of the thirty-five Buddhas purifies negative karma because in the past, when they were bodhisattvas, they made strong prayers to benefit us. In the same way, Rinpoche advises that we should pray that we will be able to help sentient beings in the future when we become enlightened. He says we should follow the example of the Medicine Buddha and the thirty-five Buddhas. From April 10 to May 10, 2004, Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave extensive teachings during the Mahamudra Retreat at Buddha House in Australia. While the retreat focused on Mahamudra, Rinpoche also taught on a wide range of Lamrim topics. This retreat marked the beginning of a series of month-long retreats in Australia. Subsequent retreats were held in 2011, 2014, and 2018, hosted by the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion in Bendigo.Find out more about Lama Zopa Rinpoche, his teachings and projects at https://fpmt.org/
SCRIPTURE: Luke 11:5-10 SHOW NOTES: For encouragement on your spiritual journey, we invite you to visit our ministry website, Discover God's Truth, where you will find additional resources to enrich your Walk with God. Jesus often used parables to teach His disciples and followers. Today, we will examine one of His lessons about prayer from His earthly ministry. In this parable, a neighbor knocks on his friend's door at midnight and asks for three loaves of bread. Wow! This seems like a daring and bold act. However, Jesus uses this short story to teach some essential lessons about our prayer requests to the Father in heaven. "And so, I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you." Luke 11:9 (NLT) In this parable, Jesus encouraged His followers to be persistent. Keep asking. Our Heavenly Father is not bothered by our requests—no matter the time of day. No matter how many times we have asked Him. We often hesitate to be truly bold in prayer because we don't want to seem demanding or presumptuous. Surprisingly, Jesus tells us to come with bold prayer requests. "So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most." "It was terrifying. The effect was paralysis. I was fully conscious, in pain, but unable to move, speak, or see. I could not even open my eyelids. The only one I could truly communicate with was God." ---------- What if the only thing you could do was feel pain—and hear? That became Robert Koonce's reality after an autoimmune attack left him completely paralyzed. He couldn't move, speak, blink, or even clear his throat. All he could do was endure—and pray. In this episode, Robert, a man of deep faith, working within the Diocese of Cleveland, recounts his yearlong journey through suffering, silence, and supernatural encounters. Unable to interact with the world, his only true conversation was with God—and that dialogue went deeper than ever before. From spiritual consolation to demonic deception, Robert's story reminds us that even when the body is bound, the soul is free to rise. ---------- Share Your Story If you have a Touched by Heaven moment that you would like to share with Trapper, please leave us a note at https://touchedbyheaven.net/contact Our listeners look forward to hearing about life-changing encounters and miraculous stories every week.
