How often do you tell people all of your story? As entrepreneurs and leaders, we're constantly tempted to leave out the unflattering details or present a more put-together face. But doing so is a massive disservice, not only to us, but to everyone who's watching us. Coming from a background as a realtor and real estate investors Samuel Smith is the founder of a real estate company called Live in College Station and the host of the Small Business Surgeon Podcast, where he lays down unfiltered wisdom, high-quality interviews and game-changing business advice. On this episode of Step It Up Entrepreneur, Tomas and Samuel discuss Samuel's story from his early wins as a teenager to the low points and his eventual comeback from alcoholism, their takeaways from a recent mastermind they attended (including the reasons it's liberating and very necessary to share your honest story, struggles and all), and the ups and downs of even the most successful fitness journeys. Listen close - the conversation may be casual, but these guys are dropping powerful insight left and right. What You'll Learn: What brought Samuel to the United States from England - and what ultimately kept him here How Samuel warmed up to the practice of proactive gratitude each day, and the benefits he's reaping now Why the practice of MMA yielded results in Samuel's life beyond just his physical fitness And much more! Favorite Quote: "Every morning, I write down the five things I'm grateful for and I go exercise and I do the school run and I get to the office. And then every morning, I sit outside, I think about something useful, I post about it, and I write down a couple of things I'm grateful for. And what that does is, it reminds me again to be grateful. But now I've got a bit of a reputation on Facebook as a guy that spreads positivity and gratitude. So, take it and run with it. Like, carry that gratitude all day with you. That's what I try to do."   Samuel Smith   Connect with Samuel: Instagram Facebook The Small Business Surgeon Podcast (subscribe and leave a rating and review!) The Mobile User Acquisition Show

Our guest today is Samuel Hulick, user onboarding consultant and founder at UserOnboard. I've wanted to interview Samuel for a long long time. I've read Samuel's work for over 7 years now. I love his onboarding teardowns of many many apps that are both incredibly instructive and very hilarious. Always incisive, always insightful - I've enjoyed so much of Samuel's work. My interview with Samuel today pinpoints how crucial user onboarding is - and outlines how to improve both upstream and downstream user retention dramatically by improving your app's user onboarding experience.Key Highlights:

I love a good drama…but I can never switch off my marketing brain. When I recently watched a spy thriller called ‘Summer of Rockets’ by Stephen Poliakoff on the BBC I nearly got thrown out of the living room because I couldn’t stop myself from commenting on the mistakes that the hero, Samuel Petrukhin was making in the marketing of his big new invention. (This wasn’t immaterial to the plot either because the fact that he couldn’t sell his invention put his business at risk and made him vulnerable to being turned into a spy…see how important successful marketing is!?) Anyway, although I managed to bite my tongue for the remainder of the episodes, I couldn’t stop thinking about what he could have done differently, and so here we are… I’ve already incorporated Samuel and his story into one of my presentations and my masterclass programme, and I thought I’d share it with you too… In this two-part show, I’m sharing his story, the marketing mistakes he made and how I would have applied the story led marketing system to his product to create engagement, leads and sales. Enjoy! What we’re going to cover in Part Two: A recap of the pillar content wheel and what it does The six pieces of pillar content Samuel’s should have used to educate the market The winning formula for every piece of content you put out How Samuel could turn those six pieces into a low maintenance marketing machine Content examples from one piece of pillar content Thanks for listening! Listen & Subscribe on iTunes   1 MILLION plastic bottles are purchased every minute and nearly 80% of them end up in the landfills and oceans, further contributing to the deterioration of the planet.     Big beverage companies have convinced us that bottled water is better than tap. And it is (for their sales reports). According to some, the bottling industry has been lying to us and their control on selling water is causing more harm than good for the environment. There are definitely ways to eliminate our wasteful usage of plastic and Samuel Ian Rosen is leading the way with his newest venture called 'Tap.'   By creating 'the Google Maps of water', Samuel is empowering others to be mindful of their plastic usage by carrying their own reusable bottle and knowing where they can get clean, potable water as they go about their city.   Why did he start this company? How does the app actually work? Can it really make a difference?   Find out by tuning in to Episode 206!
