Ryan grew up in a chaotic home where addiction was a best-kept secret. As an only child, Ryan's family had also moved more than ten times by the time he was 12. Dealing with the constant loss of whatever brief friendships he experienced, the impermanence of his relationships fueled not only feelings of loneliness and isolation, but also the need to act out. Believing that alcohol and drugs would fix what was wrong with his life, Ryan opened the throttle on his growing disease during his teenage years. By 19, Ryan's behavior warranted a short stint in AA where his half-hearted attempt was largely ineffective. Five more years of drinking and drugging landed him at inpatient treatment, followed by IOP, but once again prideful intellectualism and ego conspired with his alcoholism, and forced another slip. Landing in the same mire as before, Ryan continued to flail the disease and the mounting problems it caused during the next five years. By April of 2017, his quality of life deteriorating, Ryan finally came to AA with the willingness and desire to do whatever was necessary to achieve sobriety. With a new commitment to stay sober, Ryan implemented all of the tools needed to succeed at sobriety. He got a sponsor and worked the steps. He attended daily meetings. He took on service responsibilities, including staffing the coffee bar four days-a-week at a large AA club. He also found time to sponsor men and attend AA retreats. The net effect of all his sincere efforts was a spiritual awareness and awakening that wholly enriched the quality of his Program. I've learned a lot from Ryan during the time we've spent together and am pleased to see his outstretched hand of welcome to those who attend the meetings we go to each week. Send us Fan MailThis Podcast is part of season 23 of a project to complete an in-depth study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. Episode Notes:Today's episode is titled “A Strategy for Renewal.”  And that title, I think, captures the heartbeat of 2 Chronicles 15. This is a chapter that shows us how God renews His people, not by accident, not by emotion, not through crisis, although he can and does all of those things. But instead through a clear, God‑given strategy.Renewal is not just for moments of desperation; it can happen in moments of calm. Renewal is also for the seasons of blessing and can be part of the everyday rhythm of life. Chapter 15 will also teach us that renewal begins with listening to God's Word and continues by seeking God wholeheartedly, but renewal requires courageous obedience, and renewal is sustained by perseverance, not emotion. It is a chapter about how God rebuilds a life, how He restores a nation, and how He strengthens His people for the long haul. And it can speak directly into our lives today, because every believer needs renewal. Architects have been losing ground for years, and the industry keeps explaining it away with fee pressure, schedule pressure, and software. Beau [Last Name] has a less comfortable answer. He says the profession's own craft has declined, and that decline is exactly why architects keep getting moved further from the decisions that matter. His case runs like this. When drawings are incomplete and coordination is loose, somebody has to fill that gap, and lately that somebody is the builder. The builder absorbs the risk, then reasonably takes the authority that comes with it. Beau and Bryce get into what caused that slide, why architectural education has to become craft centric to reverse it, how AI either accelerates the decline or becomes the thing that reverses it depending entirely on how firms use it, and what he means by the "Super-Architect" and the three characteristics that define one. They also talk about the fracture inside the profession itself and why a national focus on craft may be the only thing that closes it. Moments when we felt outnumbered, outmatched, or simply out of options.Sometimes it's not one big single crisis; it's the slow accumulation of pressures that finally becomes too much. Sometimes it's the unexpected blow that knocks the wind out of our sails, or it follows a long season of discouragement that wears us down.  Whatever form it takes, we all know what it is to feel overwhelmed. And so, my question is: What do you do when that happens and how do you respond? In the Old Testament, one king found himself in exactly that situation. He was factually outnumbered and overwhelmed, facing an enemy he could not defeat, a crisis he could not control, and consequences he could not escape.
