Melanie and I didn't intend to sound like we've given up this week, but we do talk about the frustrating state of empty nest cooking as well as our ability to remember detailed song lyrics from the 80s while having absolutely no idea where the scissors are. Plus, Melanie shares about her weekend in College Station, and I may or may not recite a classic Amy Grant song like it's a poem. We also discuss what we're looking for in the next fiction book we read (epic! sweeping! preferably in an air conditioned setting!), and it's my turn for Five Favorites. She just finished up her bachelors degree in Animal Science last year, and is now working as a paralegal as she prepares to go to law school. Sara started playing basketball at the age of 3! Growing up, she played sports all year round. In high school, one of her coaches introduced her to Crossfit workouts, which she loved, especially compared to the general conditioning and running she had been doing during her off-season. However, when she moved to College Station to start school, exercise was the last thing on her mind. It wasn't until she went home for the summer in between her junior and senior year and joined a local Crossfit gym that she found her love for working out again. Sara talks about how difficult it can be to find the balance between wanting to eat healthy and having a social life. She shares her tips on how she has overcome this struggle and how she can eat healthy AND enjoy time with friends and family. Enjoy!

Jake went to high school in Chicago and played just about every sport out there. He came to College Station hoping to play baseball at TAMU, but soon realized that wasn't going to happen with a shoulder injury he sustained in high school. Facing this realization, Jake spiraled into depression and a drug addiction until he found Jesus and a home church at Brazos Fellowship. Jake discusses his fitness journey, the ups and the downs. Ultimately, he feels better when he is working out, which is why he decided that coming back to Crossfit was the best decision for him since he not only missed the working out, but also the community. Hey Identifier, https://thetexan.news/texas-nurse-fired-for-refusing-implicit-bias-training/ #racialbiastraining #nurse #LauraMorgan After spending decades in the profession caring for patients, in 2019, Laura Morgan became a nurse educator at Baylor, Scott & White (BSW) Hospital in College Station, Texas. There she helped provide continuing education and professional development courses for other nurses and health professionals until conflict over a new training module led to her termination earlier this year. In September 2021, BSW introduced a new mandatory training session entitled “Overcoming Unconscious Bias,” which Morgan says makes assumptions about all white people. “After 39 years of providing equal care to all patients without regard to their race, I objected to a mandatory course grounded in the idea that I'm racist because I'm white,” Morgan wrote in the Wall Street Journal. Morgan told The Texan she met several times with supervisors and communicated with BSW's Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer to express her concerns, but the hospital refused to grant an exemption and in February 2022 she was fired. The theory of implicit bias is grounded in the idea that regardless of a person's stated beliefs or values, they unknowingly or “unconsciously” discriminate against members of other ethnic groups. Some social psychologists and political leaders apply the idea primarily to white Americans they say have racist associations without awareness and need to acknowledge this problem. The LSU Tigers entered Saturday's contest with the Texas A&M Aggies with one of the best defenses in the SEC. On the other hand, Texas A&M entered the game with one of the worst offenses in the SEC, ineligible for a bowl game, and demanding the offensive play-calling duties be taken away from head coach Jimbo Fisher. . All of that considered, LSU should have dominated. LSU football should have rolled past the Aggies and on to the SEC Championship in Atlanta to take on the Georgia Bulldogs and keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. Instead, the Aggies dominated LSU and Texas A&M ended their regular season on a high note with a win. So what went wrong for Brian Kelly and LSU football? Defensively, LSU had no answers for the run game. Texas A&M RB Devon Achane ran for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns, the best game of his career in College Station. Combined with missed tackles and limited pressure on true freshman QB Connor Weigman, A&M's offense was able to have their day with the Tigers D. Offensively, LSU was able to run the ball a fair amount but couldn't convert on third down. Up next, LSU heads to Atlanta to take on the top team in the country and reigning national champion Georgia Bulldogs. The LSU Tigers defeated the UAB Blazers 41-10 in Tiger Stadium Saturday night in the Tigers' final home game of the regular season. After an abysmal showing for the LSU Tigers offense in Fayetteville last week, Jayden Daniels and the rest of the offense bounced back for a massive 565 yard performance on Senior Night. The only negative takeaway from the offense on Saturday in Tiger Stadium was the news that running back Armoni Goodwin will be out for the remainder of the season. The team's third-leading rusher has been a go-to for big chunk plays for the Tigers throughout the season. The offense will now lean on Noah Cain, who had a HUGE day against the Blazers with three touchdowns on the night, Josh Williams, and John Emery in the run game. However, John Emery showed on Saturday that he may be more of a liability to LSU than he is helpful. John Emery fumbled twice on Saturday. While UAB wasn't able to capitalize on either of those possessions, Emery's ball security is a concern moving forward when LSU plays more competitive opponents. Overall, LSU had a solid day on both sides of the ball and gained some much needed momentum and confidence going into the regular season finale at College Station as the Tigers face the struggling Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday.
