In a maelstrom of fists & dirt, Guy spoils the town's plans in a good ol' fashioned brawl. Limping out of the scuffle in a blood-soaked stupor, he comes to find out this wasn't the ticket out he was hoping for. The pain is mounting & his body is a clock ticking toward collapse. With enemies on every side, Guy seeks shelter in the last place he'd expect hospitality and takes the only option to ease some of his battle wounds — he ingests the town's homemade drug. In a flurry of glowing revelations, Guy decides it might be time to try some religion. The Mister is a charming Southern belle in the body of a wheelchair bound, disfigured crime boss. She's got a brood of junkies to cater to her whims, and she's willing to exchange information for a ticket out of this place. With a powerful friend, and some of her pawns at his disposal, Guy may finally be able to plug his leak and get the Hell out of Dodge. Guy stumbles upon another one of the town's ungodly fixtures — a cornfield that wails and moans as if it were in pain. The droning seems to mesmerize the town's addict population. Short on time, Guy lets his fists ask some questions and buys himself a ticket to the junkie's supplier — The Mister. If Guy is this tale's hardboiled detective, The Mister is the Kingpin and Femme Fatale wrapped in a twisted shell. When Guy stomps on too many toes, the townsfolk stomp back and hang him out to dry. The townies' cruel brand of justice doesn't stick, though, and while wriggling on the line, he finally finds some people crazy enough to talk. With new information clenched in his fist, he doesn't just have a job to do; he's got a score to settle. A stranger, known only as “Guy,” rolls into a "middle of nowhere" town and asks around for work. When the locals stonewall him, he radios the man who sent him there. This town is full of rogues & bastards — sent there as punishment. They're getting out somehow and that won't fly. Guy's here to plug the leak or he'll find himself abandoned in this hellhole. "Clean Sheets" Dir. Jake S. Weisman Katie and Luke are practicing social distancing, so we're harkening back to December 2019 when you could still gather in public. Luke attends a LIVE screening of Jake's second feature in Chicago and hosts a Q and A with the filmmaker himself! Also, do you dig our new theme? You have @MarkTwaan to thank!
"Scrapers: A Comedy for Romantic Stoners (2016)" Dir. Jake S. Weisman This week, in Katie's absence, Luke is joined by Jake S. Weisman to talk about his debut feature film: Scrapers. Instead of gabbing about some studio picture like we normally do, Jake provides a beautiful perspective into the world of fringe filmmaking and what it's like to shoot a movie in the heart of Chicago. Scrapers is a lovely marriage between the rom-com and the stoner comedy genre. In short...You'll laugh. You'll high. (Not my best). Also, you can watch his flick on Amazon Prime. For free. Go watch it.
On this very special edition of No Coast Cinema, host Tom Hush talks with filmmaker Jake S. Weisman about the curious case of Orson Welles’ The Other Side of the Wind. They discuss the story of the film’s completion and a little bit of the history behind it, including its haphazard shooting and the legal battle […]
Katie is joined by returning guest/pal Jake S. Weisman to unpack a movie jam-packed with a dystopian take on California in 2008. There's a movie star, a porn star, and a policeman. Confused? Join the club.
Luke and Katie call in 'Kevin Smith aficionado,' Jake S. Weisman, to help them answer the age-old question: Is man truly a walrus at heart? Listen to us talk about the film that reignited Silent Bob's passion for making film. Listen to us defend it. Listen to Jake shit on our opinion!
Luke and Katie talk about one of their all-time filmmakers (Kevin Smith) and one of his less-than-loved flicks (Jersey Girl). Special Guest: Writer/Director Jake S. Weisman
