MOVIE NIGHT! Join Tom, Dan, and Sarah on a biblical New Jersey adventure in Dogma; This 1999 Jay and Silent Bob vehicle asks the big questions, like what would happen if the Catholic god was wrong about something even once? Or how does Kevin Smith get Alan Rickman, Selma Hayek, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck to be in his low budget movie about Gen X sensibilities and comic book hot-takes? Clearly this movie works in mysterious ways . Diversions include Jason Lee's most memorable delivery, timeless stoner comedy (bonnnnnnngggg) and the mystery of Choolie Bob.

Yes, it turns out that Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith's pal since Clerks, is a superfan of the CBC historical whodunnit Murdoch Mysteries. He was turned on to the series by his buddy, Matt Goehring. Mewes binged 18 seasons and 300 episodes in six months. Kevin Smith, , creator of Clerks, Dogma, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob, Comic Book Men and so much more once upon a time in 1998 was given the opportunity to write Daredevil for Marvel Comics. This was a huge undertaking as many Hollywood writers and directors had a passion for comics, but never brought their talents to the medium. However, after encouraging words from the creative team of Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti helped Kevin Smith take the leap to add a new chapter to Matt Murdock's life. Kevin then goes on to write the storyline Guardian Devil to help launch the Marvel Knights imprint, which was an exciting time for Marvel Comics. This storyline features many themes of romance, betrayal, faith in oneself and beliefs, test of humanity, ethics, and some much more in this thrilling 8 issues series, all with ties to the larger Marvel Universe. If you are a Daredevil, the tv show, or other Daredevil stories we encourage you to check out the infamous comic book run.

On Rewind, a sit down with filmmaker, writer, podcaster, and pop‑culture ambassador Kevin Smith to revisit the creation and legacy of his AMC reality series Comic Book Men. Running from 2012 to 2018, the show became a celebration of fandom, friendship, and the magic of the local comic shop — all rooted in Kevin's real‑life store, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash in Red Bank, New Jersey. Recorded at New York Comic-Con, this conversation captures Kevin at his most candid and enthusiastic as he reflects on how a simple idea — turning the everyday life of his comic shop into a TV series — became a six‑season phenomenon. The Origin Story Before it became Comic Book Men, the series was originally titled Secret Stash, named after Kevin's beloved shop. It was a natural fit: Kevin owned the store, the staff were characters in their own right, and the world of comics was exploding into mainstream culture. The timing was perfect. AMC wanted a companion series to follow The Walking Dead, and Kevin's blend of geek culture, humor, and heart made the Stash the ideal setting. The Series at a Glance Premiered: 2012 Original Title: Secret Stash Final Title: Comic Book Men Format Evolution: Season 1: Six one‑hour episodes Season 2: Expanded to sixteen half‑hour episodes Total Run: Six seasons Season 7: Confirmed in 2018 but ultimately cancelled before production Across its run, the show blended Pawn Stars‑style collectibles, comic book history, fan culture, and the unmistakable chemistry of Kevin's longtime friends and Stash staff — Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Mike Zapcic, and Ming Chen.   SAVE 17%  ON PLUS

One is a heartfelt, romantic coming-of-age story, the other a black-and-white, foul-mouthed retail comedy. But together, they capture the shifting cultural moment between the late '80s and early '90s, when indie filmmakers proved you didn't need studio polish to say something real. The conversation digs into Clerks as a once-in-a-lifetime debut: it's handmade feel, sharp dialogue, budget-driven creativity, and the birth of the View Askewniverse. From newspaper machines and 37 infamous confessions to Jay & Silent Bob's unlikely legacy, the crew explores why Kevin Smith's $33,000 gamble still resonates decades later. They also connect the dots between both films through music, tone, first-time directors, and a shared DNA of alternative cinema that celebrate authenticity over perfection.Support the showFind our films here: The Love Song of William H Shaw Revenge of Zoe Writing Fren-ZeeMaking Pondo on FacebookX (formerly Twitter):@MakingPondoInstagramMaking Pondo on Letterboxd:Season One Season Two Season Three Season Four Theme Song "The Rain" by Russ PacePhotos by Geoffrey Notkin

Kevin Smith joins Nerdtropolis Mayor Sean Tajipour on Reel Insights to celebrate the long-awaited 4K debut of Dogma, the bold, controversial religious fantasy that pushed boundaries, sparked protests, and became one of the most beloved films in his View Askewniverse.Kevin reflects on the surreal feeling of finally holding the 4K master after decades of the film being locked away. He shares why physical media still matters, how Lionsgate helped revive the movie, and what it meant to watch audiences pack theaters across the country for the Dogma tour/He also dives into the wild behind-the-scenes history, including how Chris Rock ended up joining the cast, the unexpected moment Don Cheadle nearly starred in the film, and why Sam Jackson got paid more than anyone despite never appearing on screen. Kevin also talks about working with the late Alan Rickman, praising his brilliance and calling Rickman's performance one of the film's greatest gifts. As he revisits Dogma with fresh eyes, Kevin opens up about rediscovering the movie's heart, reconnecting with its themes, and appreciating the dedication of a cast and crew who worked for scale simply because they believed in the story. Kevin teases his next projects as well, hinting at a new period-piece script he's writing with renewed passion and confirming another Jay & Silent Bob movie arriving next year.Dogma makes its long-awaited return on 4K home video on December 9.Visit Nerdtropolis.comhttps://www.Facebook.com/nerdtropolishttps://Instagram.com/nerdtropolishttps://Twitter.com/nerdtropolis

This job would be great if it wasn't for the customers. We're heading back to October 19, 1994, to talk about Clerks — the scrappy, black-and-white indie that turned convenience store chaos into cinematic history. Shot for $27,000 on maxed-out credit cards, Kevin Smith's debut launched a generation of filmmakers (and Jay & Silent Bob) while capturing the sarcasm, boredom and pop-culture debates of ‘90s slackerdom.Nathan is joined by Marisa Boyd for a conversation about Clerks' raw DIY spirit, its laugh-out-loud realism and why the female characters might just be the smartest people in the room. They also reminisce about video stores, Magic Eye posters, the power of the Weezer Blue Album and that unforgettable “37” scene. It's a love letter to indie film, Gen-X humor and the jobs we couldn't wait to quit.Read Nathan's thoughts on Clerks.Support the podcast: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/moviesarelife
