Before the zombie ate anybody, it went to work. It was a Haitian creature—a body without a will, dug up and put on a sugar plantation—and the horror wasn't that it might come for you… no, not at all. The horror was that you might actually become one. That's the whole thing.So Pete drags the room back past Romero to the three decades when the movie zombie was still a labor instrument. White Zombie (1932) is the first one ever made. This means of course that nobody had figured out yet what a zombie was for, so it lands on a mill full of enslaved men who are not, notably, Black. They're the boss's rivals and creditors, converted into staff. The movie is untroubled by all of them and scandalized by one white woman's captivity. Tommy and Kynan both want to know whether the movie has any idea what it's doing.I Walked with a Zombie (1943) is Val Lewton handed a title he detested and answering it by adapting Jane Eyre, true story, which kinda almost works. After that, Wes Craven goes to Haiti in 1988, gets eleven of his thirty shooting days, and makes a zombie movie where nobody eats anyone and nobody is put to work. You'd think the mental model gets all broken with this one. In this episode, we will study Edvard Munch's “The Scream,” along with the strange feelings associated with this painting which has become one of the most famous paintings of modern times. In this episode, we will look at how Munch has used distortion, color, and a very strange human figure to depict fear as against the conventional ideas of beauty. We will debate on whether an artwork needs to be visually appealing to have any aesthetic value or whether unpleasantness can tell us about something which is just as significant. We will also relate the painting to the emerging trends in arts and psychology in Europe during the fin de siècle period.

Edward Munch was a Norwegian artist who lived from the mid 1800s to early 1900s. Group 2258 explores its emotional and psychological qualities. Deathwoods doesn't exactly reinvent the slasher formula, but with its throwback '80s atmosphere, surprisingly strong performances, high body count, brutal kills, and plenty of practical gore, it ended up being a lot more fun than either of us expected.We break down the movie's grindhouse-inspired presentation, the cinematography, the increasingly questionable decisions being made by everyone in the woods, a twist that caught us off guard, and why horror characters still haven't learned to stay the hell out of abandoned houses.There is one major issue, though: the audio mix. Between dialogue getting buried under ambient sound and sudden volume spikes, both of us eventually gave up and turned on subtitles. Somehow, even Corey's years of destroyed concert hearing weren't enough preparation.Despite that, Deathwoods delivered where it mattered. Fred from the SubArctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel returns with two unsettling encounter reports from the Alaskan wilderness. The first story follows Jeanette and Ross as they hike a well-traveled trail leading from the highway toward the North Kenai River and Skilak Lake area. What begins with strange whispering in the woods quickly escalates into loud, unintelligible gibberish coming from somewhere nearby.Then, without warning, an explosive scream erupts from behind them with enough force to make both hikers buckle.Ross immediately reaches for bear spray, but there is nothing visible to confront. As the couple begins retreating, the activity continues. A large log appears to shift as though something has pushed it, more screams echo through the area, and Ross catches a brief glimpse of a large, dark figure near the trail with a bulky build and distinctly human-like shoulders.The encounter becomes even more disturbing when they meet another group on the trail who also heard the scream and strange vocalizations and ultimately help escort Jeanette and Ross out of the area.Fred then shares an anonymous account involving two active-duty military hunters near Alaska's Gulkana River.During their trip, the men notice what appears to be a strange fire made from spruce boughs and decide to investigate. As they approach, they encounter extremely tall figures in the darkness and begin hearing unusual deep chirping sounds.At least one of the figures is described as roughly ten feet tall, covered in black, and unlike anything the hunters expected to find in the wilderness. The situation becomes tense enough that warning shots are fired. Soon afterward, the men discover a snowmachine overturned and later pursue a remarkably fast-moving figure traveling across deep snow with apparent ease.What initially seems connected to the disappearance of their friends takes another unexpected turn when the missing men are eventually located drinking in town, leaving the hunters with even more questions about exactly what they encountered along the Gulkana River.Two remote areas. Multiple witnesses. Strange vocalizations, towering figures, and behavior that does not easily fit any familiar animal.
