**Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of homicides, suicide and torture** This week we're back in spooky Appalachia to explore a haunted attraction that might be a little too real. Sitting on 20 acres of a former Tennessee plantation is Frightmare Manor. The haunt's story centers on Jeremiah Lexer, the former plantation owner who was secretly a serial killer, the shocking 1902 axe murders that exposed his crimes, and a pit of bodies believed to hold dozens of missing locals. It's a dark legend that raises a bit of an eyebrow when you realize it's now being used as entertainment. Today the property is one of the country's most popular haunted attractions, with a challenge so intense that almost no one completes it. Yet staff and visitors report shadow figures, strange noises, moving objects, and a man carrying an axe in the manor windows. So we have to wonder… are the scares just part of the show, or is something else haunting Frightmare Manor? Quebec is known as one of the most historically and culturally rich provinces in Canada. Its culture is one filled to the brim with folklore and legends, to the point where there are books dedicated entirely to traditional French-Canadian fairy tales and lore. These stories intertwine the influences of both early French settlers and the Native American tribes that populated the region.Most of the legends were kept alive by Raconteurs, the French-Canadian equivalent of bards or minstrels who would use oral storytelling traditions to both keep their people's history and culture alive and pass on warnings about the consequences of moral failings such as greed or selfishness. These tales spread throughout the land as the Raconteurs travelled the region, spreading stories that would often feature religious undertones, such as deals with the devil and the dire consequences that ensued, to keep morality, superstition, and obedience at the forefront of the burgeoning population's minds. Between the years of 1865 and 1901, the United States saw unprecedented economic and industrial growth. During this time, an area referred to as The Berkshires in the state of Massachusetts became the primary location for the country's wealthiest families to build country estates that would rival many of the UK's manor houses in both stature and size. These estates, despite their grandiose nature, were referred to as the Berkshire Cottages due to their primary function being summer homes. Many of these houses hosted lavish events attended by the highest of high society figures at the time. In the months following World War II, Antarctica drew the attention of one of the most ambitious polar expeditions in history: Operation Highjump, led by Admiral Richard E. Byrd in 1946–47. Officially, the mission was straightforward…a massive naval operation to train personnel, test new equipment in extreme polar conditions, and establish research outposts. The U.S. Navy deployed thousands of personnel, dozens of ships, and a fleet of aircraft to navigate the treacherous ice.  But as often happens in isolated, secretive places, reality and rumour quickly intertwined. Almost immediately after the expedition, extraordinary stories began to circulate. Some claimed that Byrd's reconnaissance flights revealed not endless ice, but vast stretches of greenery, lakes, and even herds of prehistoric creatures…creatures reminiscent of mammoths, wandering in isolated valleys hidden from human eyes.  Do you have an interesting story which you'd be willing to share with the show?
