Welcome to Movie Mandates, a review show in which sibling cinephiles Andrew and Keleigh force each other to watch movies according to a monthly theme! Happy Holidays month concludes with Eight Crazy Nights, Adam Sandler's laudable attempt to plug the Hanukkah-shaped gap in the holiday movie pantheon. Unfortunately, it's so bad I'd argue a marathon of Salo, Society, Audition, A Serbian Film, and both Nekromantic movies would be a much more pleasant sit. 0:00 - Trivial Trivia 16:46 - Eight Crazy Nights review 57:07 - Next episode's mandated movie We'll be back in two weeks with another mandated movie. As far as Jewish filmmakers go, the Safie brothers could well be the GOATs (Greatest Of All Time) when it comes to Jewish sports cinema. One of their earliest collaborations was a 2013 documentary on high school basketball star Lenny Cooke; their breakout feature, Uncut Gems, was a sports-adjacent thriller featuring a Passover Seder with Adam Sandler and Idina Menzel; then younger brother Benny Safdie went on to star in Sandler's Happy Gilmore sequel—another sports film with a Jewish lead character. Now, in late 2025, the brothers (who are great-nephews of architect Moshe Safdie, for those wondering) have gone their separate ways, each directing their own sports movie. Benny directed The Rock in a biopic of MMA fighter Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine, while older brother Josh Safdie tapped Jewish actor Timothée Chalamet to play table tennis champion Marty Reisman in Marty Supreme. While Marty Supreme is slated for a Christmas Day release 2025, the Globe and Mail's film editor, Barry Hertz, just published a review of the Oscar contender, in which he says the story "burns with the relentless, fight-for-your-life spirit of the Maccabees.... With apologies to Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights, Marty Supreme is, thematically and spiritually, the greatest Hanukkah movie ever made." Hertz joins the Menschwarmers to explain his reasoning and how this ping pong epic fits into the larger canon of Jewish cinema. And before that, the boys chat about Jake Retzlaff leading the Tulane Green Wave to success, and get to the source of an incorrect rumour about the Toronto Blue Jays' Eric Clement being Jewish. (Spoiler Section Length - 7min 16sec)The last time all three co-hosts watched an Adult animated film, Eight Crazy Nights, none of them enjoyed it. But does that mean no such films have merit? Releasing in the late 90's, the South Park film released during the series' early years when they were considered especially controversial. It's a musical, just like ECN, and it's certainly no slouch in the crassness department. But is it still worthwhile, over two decades later? Listen to find out!

With Christmas in the can, now Hanukkah's the man. When it comes to holiday themed movies, Hanukkah might be even more scarce than Thanksgiving but for the third day of Hanukkah we got the Sand-man coming up in the clutch with the 2002 animated holiday film “EIGHT CRAZY NIGHTS” directed by Seth Kearsley. By “Sand-man” we mean, of course, Adam Sandler who wrote and produced this crude animated comedy that isn't without laughs and a bit of charm but does it merit the category of contemporary holiday classic? When it comes to Adam Sandler fare, we're all over the place. We're very up and down. We never know how we'll feel. He hits it for us or he doesn't but nothing but respect for the Sand-man who seems to be a very very good friend to the people he came up with. Sometimes he even sacrifices a good movie for his friends. Is that the case here? Why do all those horrible things keep happening to our boy, Whitey? He's the sweetest dude. His sister, Eleanor is the most consistent laugh in the flick. Also…poo. Is there enough poo in this movie? It's a musical too but we can only vouch for the quality of one song. “Technical Foul” actually goes. Remix that shit for the clubs. Happy Hanukkah. The great Jon Lovitz talks about comedy, acting, stand-up comedy, dogs, The Groundlings, Managers, A league of Their Own, The Simpsons, The Critic, and the serendipity of show business. Bio: Jon Lovitz has been one of the best known comedians for the last thirty years. He got his start acting in High School plays and developing his skills at the University of California, Irvine where he earned a B.A. in Drama. He also studied acting with Tony Barr at the Film Actors Workshop. At the advice of Tony Barr, Jon decided to concentrate solely on comedy. He began taking classes with the famous improv comedy group, “The Groundlings” in 1982. One year later, after being accepted into “The Sunday Company”, Jon got his first acting job on the television show “The Paper Chase: the Second Year”. Thinking he was on his way, he promptly quit his job at a clothing store…and became a messenger. The next three years – nothing!!! Then, in September of 1984, he was accepted into the main company at “The Groundlings”.On March 28, 1985, “The Groundlings” appeared on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” where Jon premiered his character “Tommy Flanagan of Pathological Liars Anonymous”. Following the introduction of this persona, Jon got an agent, and booked a movie, a series, a voice over for a cartoon, and “Saturday Night Live”. Jon has been working non-stop since. He was nominated for an Emmy his first two years on “Saturday Night Live”. While on SNL, he became known for his characters “Tommy Flanagan of the Pathological Liars Anonymous” (“Year, that's the ticket”), “Master Thespian”, “Hanukkah Harry”, and “the Devil”. He has appeared in over 40 films, including “Big”, “A League of Their Own”, “The Wedding Singer”, “High School High”, “Small Time Crooks”, “Rat Race”, “The Producers”, “Eight Crazy Nights”, “The Benchwarmers”, “Grown Ups 2”, “The Ridiculous 6”, among many others. He has also worked with acclaimed directors such as Penny Marshall, Rob Reiner, Jerry Zucker, and Woody Allen. He one of a handful of actors used regularly in almost all his movies by Adam Sandler. This year, in 2024, he just completed the lead character in the film “The Toast” and will be appearing in “Happy Gilmore 2” starring Adam Sandler.Along with his comedy, Jon is well known for his distinctive voice. He was the lead voice for the character “Jay Sherman” in the acclaimed cult cartoon series, “The Critic”. He has also appeared in twelve episodes of “The Simpsons”, even creating the character of Marge Simpson's boyfriend, “Artie Ziff” (who sounds suspiciously like Jay Sherman). Jon has also appeared on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre in Neil Simon's play “The Dinner Party”, taking over the lead role from Henry Winkler. He has sung (yes, he can sing!) at Carnegie Hall three times (including “Great Performances: Ira Gershwin at 100: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall) and sung the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium and the U.S. Open. He also sang with English rock star, Robbie Williams at the Royal Alpert Hall and appears on his album, “Swing While You're Winning!”He currently is performing his new musical comedy show, “From the Shower to the Stage” with celebrated musical conductor and arranger, Randy Waldman. Randy has been Barbra Streisand's personal pianist for the last 36 years and is her current musical conductor as well.Jon has also had an illustrious television career. He was the first famous guest star on the hit show “Friends”. In the same week, he appeared on an episode of Seinfeld. Jon also has had recurring roles on “Hot in Cleveland”, “Las Vegas”, “Two and a Half Men”, “Hawaii Five-O”, and “New Girl”.Editing Notes: Jon Lovitz episode seem to go on and on. Jon won't stop talking. Interested in how you think it is. I think I talk too much about wanting to have sex with Kate Upton. I do it TWICE. (Kate Upton might not be famous anymore) Funny? If not, feel free to cut it.

In this episode of Casual Chats, Patricia and special guest Arun Mehta from The Arun Mehta Show discuss about the 2023 Netflix/Happy Madison Productions animated film Leo starring Adam Sandler, Bill Burr, Cecily Strong, and Jason Alexander. Leo is a 74-year-old tuatara living as a class pet with a turtle named Squirtle. After learning that tuataras live up to 75 years, Leo decides that he's going to break out and make his way to the Everglades, but things change when the main teacher leaves due to maternity leave and a strict substitute takes her place. One assignment they get is to bring a pet home and they take Leo. Leo talks to them individually and gives them advice on how to better themselves. When the film premiered on Netflix, it received positive reviews from critics calling it a sweet, funny, charming, and endearing film that replaces Eight Crazy Nights and the Hotel Transylvania films as Adam Sandler's best animated film he's ever been in. In addition, it has received more positive reviews than Disney's Wish. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film? The story revolves around Davey Stone, a troubled young man with a disdain for the holiday season. After a series of destructive antics, he finds himself facing legal consequences. Instead of going to jail, he is sentenced to community service with a gentle elderly referee, Whitey Duvall, who tries to help him find redemption.Set during the Hanukkah season, the film explores themes of forgiveness, self-discovery, and the spirit of the holidays. As Davey undergoes a transformation, he confronts his past and learns to appreciate the importance of love, friendship, and the joy of giving. After launching into superstardom with movies like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler attempted to make an animated holiday classic with Eight Crazy Nights. Although the movie has its defenders, it was a major box office bomb and has been panned by critics. Today we're taking a second look at the Hanukkah classic to find out what exactly it does well!Join the Best of the Rest discord: https://discord.gg/86P7jJXNPb Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/user/botrcast Email: bestoftherestpod@gmail.com Social Media @BotRCast on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Bonus content: Youtube Theme song (vocals) by Mark Benavides: Instagram Music by Mitch: Twitter, SoundCloud Logo by Alex Brinegar: https://beardodoesdesign.com/ Additional artwork by Phillip Chacon, C7Productions: Instagram
"Leo" is only the second animated film from Happy Madison Productions following "Eight Crazy Nights." It has garnered positive reviews for its animation, comedy, voice-acting, and music and stars the voice talents of Adam Sandler, Bill Burr, and Cecily Strong. Co-directors Robert Marianetti and David Wachtenheim made their feature directorial debuts with this film (and co-directed alongside "The Week Of" director Robert Smigel) and were kind enough to spend a few minutes talking with us about their work on the film. Please be sure to check out the film, which is currently streaming on Netflix; take a listen below and enjoy! Thank you. Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Blake Clark is a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army with the 5th Infantry Division.[2][3] During his time in the army, Clark was also a member of the 101st Airborne Division known as the "Screaming Eagles." Blake has been cast in numerous Adam Sandler films including The Waterboy, Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, Eight Crazy Nights, 50 First Dates, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Bedtime Stories, Grown Ups, and That's My Boy. He has also made guest appearances in numerous television series, including Home Improvement, Boy Meets World, The Jamie Foxx Show, The Drew Carey Show, Girl Meets World, and Community. He was also Fred the chauffeur in Remington Steele. Starting with Toy Story 3, Clark has voiced Slinky Dog in the Toy Story franchise, in place of his close friend Jim Varney, Slinky's original voice actor in the first two films, who died of lung cancer. When Toy Story 3 was still in production after Varney had died, Pixar searched for someone who sounded like Varney and fortunately found Clark, who "very much captures the essence and spirit of Slinky Dog's character. Blake is a very funny guy and still to date, has the longest applause break as a comic on the Tonight Show. (Johnny Carson era)

Or, upon fact-check, two crazy nights (or days—but depending on time zone it was night somewhere). Conor and Gary discuss three truly unprecedented moments from the Saturday-Sunday slate of games. First, a confused discussion of the most stunning finish to a game… maybe ever? The reaction to Jakobi Meyers's lateral to nowhere with no time left in a tie game, landing in Chandler Jones's hands for a game-winning TD. What could have been going through Meyers's head? Is Rhamondre Stevenson the one who started the fire? And is there any way to pin this back on the Patriots' insistence on calling 47 screen plays every week? Second, the coolest interception goes for naught, but goes nonetheless in Titans-Chargers. And third, the fallout of the Vikings' record-breaking comeback against the Colts. Plus, Trevor Lawrence's ongoing ascension to the elite class, the Lions keep winning but the Jets keep proving they're good, a couch investigation of the late-game officiating in Giants-Commanders, lots of reminders that you're two or three big mistakes from losing to anyone, and much more!
