Our lives have been turned upside down. We are having to rethink how we live our lives. We are in a strange new land for the next few weeks at least. How are we feeling after a few days of lockdown? How are we feeling with Covid-19 around us? Ezekiel was given a vision for those whose lives had been turned upside down, who were having to rethink how they lived their lives. They were in a strange new land.Martha and Mary, with the death of their brother Lazarus, had their lives turned upside down and were faced with having to rethink how they lived their lives. They were in a strange new land. Some questionsWhat is it like in this foreign land living in our homes? In what ways do we feel like dried up bones? How do these words of Ezekiel speak to us? Some suggestionsTake time each day to prayTake time each day to give thanks for this timeBe kind to and look after yourselfBe kind to and care for those in your bubble.Stay safe. Stay calm. Wash your hands.

Sarah discusses John 11:1-45, the gospel text assigned for the last Sunday in Lent, which tells the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.  The actual raising part of the narrative is only 2 verses, so why is the story 45 verses?  This story tells us a lot about who Jesus is in John's gospel, and it is a great text to lead us into Holy Week.Follow the GSMC Bible Study Podcast at http://www.gsmcpodcast.com/bible-study.html

John 11:1-45 "A Present God" When John wrote his version of the story of Jesus, he described Jesus performing seven miracles. He references that there were many more, but he focused his attention on those seven. Each miracle is an unique and intentional story of Jesus being present in the circumstances of someone's life. In our Spring Sermon Series, we will explore each of these signs of Jesus' power, care, creativity, and investment in the lives of those he encountered. What we hope to discover in these stories of God's power in the lives of the people in these stories, is the present power of God in our own lives.

John explores the story of the raising Lazarus and wonders in what ways we are bound in death. He offers the daily office as a means by which our rhythms may be shifted to God’s rhythms of life, our outlook shifted to God’s outlook of life, so that we may slowly be unbound from the garments of death and freed to embrace “eternal life”.He finishes by inviting people to try the daily office as part of the growing spiritual disciplines.

When we hurt we don't want to reflect on the significance of our pain; we just want it to go away. Suffering is one of the things we all have in common. It is no respecter of person, position, or spiritual belief. In this message we'll see where God pulls back the curtain for us to see His perspective on our suffering.
