4th Sunday of LentThe healing of the man born blind was a breakthrough moment. This would be the first step in the long process of healing, but at the same time, acceptance and transformation within himself by Our Lord. The good news is that since Christians have been washed in the waters of baptism, spiritual blindness is not permanent. Therefore, the Gospel this Sunday gives way to reflecting upon the ways in which humanity judges by appearances, whereas the Lord looks into the heart.Scripture Readings for March 19, 20231 Samuel 16:1, 6-7, 10-13Psalm 23:1-6 Ephesians 5:8-14John 9:1-41

Third Sunday in LentFor the next three weeks of our Lenten journey, we will be invited to reflect upon the most important spiritual symbols of our faith: water, light, and life. All three of these identify basic human needs. In our Gospel today, we learn about the Samaritan woman who goes out at noon to draw water. Jesus' encounter with this woman is not only a story of her conversion, but also God's patience with humanity. May we reflect upon our life's sources. Are you and I willing to allow God to go to the source of our thirst? Scripture Readings for March 12, 2023Exodus 17:3-7Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9Romans 5:1-2, 5-8John 4:5-42
This Sunday we spent time in Scripture focusing on who Jesus was through the writings of Isaiah. Stephen Walker sets up our focus during our time of Communion together. Scriptures were read by Jordan Bischell, David Walker, George McCleskey, and Johnny Robertson.

My guest today is Jodie Niznik, a seminary-trained lover of God's Word who has served in vocational ministry for over twelve years. She helps people create space for God in their lives through her Scripture meditation podcast and equips them to take another step with Jesus through her Real People, Real Faith Bible studies and teaching. Jodie and I chat about Lectio Divina, a form of scripture meditation. But we know that meditation, the word and the practice gets a lot of push back in the church. So we chat about what exactly Lectio Divina includes, the good and the bad versions of meditation, and how we can all begin practicing this discipline of stillness even if you have never done anything like this before.Show NotesVerse by Verse Bible Study Verse by verse Bible study with Randy Duncan. Ash WednesdayThe universal Church begins the holy season of lent with Ash Wednesday. Today is marked by a degree of somber repentance for the sins we have committed while also trusting completely in the mercy of God. May this holy season assist people everywhere in moral conversion for we are dust and to dust we shall return. A Public People: The Church as a Distinct Community - A Study of 1 & 2 PeterIn this series, we will consider what makes the Christian community so distinct. While there are many associations, relationships, and communities in which we find ourselves, Christian community is unique in that the community is rooted in a singular commonality––the work of Jesus. Christians' lives should reflect a different way of living. This life ought to reflect and embody the hope and joy found in Christ. As a result, Christians ought to be a particular type of community marked by particular characteristics that are different and maybe even peculiar to others. Seventh Sunday in Ordinary TimeThese Sunday readings are rather appropriate as we prepare this coming Wednesday for the beginning of lent. God willing we have learned over the years that lent is more than just simply giving up beer, chocolate, and going to fish friday's. Lent is an opportunity to evaluate our own foolish ways of living and turn back to God who is ever faithful and true! 6th Sunday in Ordinary TimeThe pursuit of perfection in this lifetime is an essential component towards attaining human greatness. Yet, spiritual greatness does not consist so much in external behaviors as it does internally. For example, external behavior patterns such as murder and adultery stem from the heart, therefore in order to become perfect Jesus is teaching his followers to examine the internal movements of the heart first such as anger and lust. This purification process is all inclusive, not just in dealing with grave sin, but necessary towards the attainment of spiritual perfection. Scripture Readings for February 12, 2023Sirach 15:15-20Psalm 119:1-2, 4-5, 17-18, 33-341 Corinthians 2:6-10Matthew 5:17-37

Kyle, Matt, and Linda welcome Mitchell Chase back to the podcast for a second time. He discusses his new book "Hope for All the Earth: Understanding The Story of the Old Testament" and the importance of teaching the Old Testament to students. Mitchell helps us to see the Old Testament as the Bible that Jesus read and knew, and its importance for our own lives. He encourages listeners to help students understand the larger biblical story and how the Old Testament fits into it. With that in mind, themes of exile, sacred space, and redemption are discussed to help us see the Old Testament in a big picture way.

All Christians know they need to be better at something pertaining to their faith in God. The list if fairly common; more godly man or woman, better husband, wife or parent. Read the Bible more and pray. Become more involved in ministry. Courage to share ones faith. Do these sound familiar? If so many Christians feel this way, what is it going to take to make the change? Enter spiritual disciplines; practices found in Scripture that promote spiritual growth among followers of Jesus. Actions like dedicated prayer, Scripture reading and solitude. Fasting, worship and generosity. They sound ominous, maybe even a bit overwhelming. Maybe instead of looking at these spiritual disciplines as barriers, what if we looked at them differently. What if we viewed spiritual disciplines as the practices we engage in to make sure "the big rocks" of our faith journey go in first? As a church family, we are going to spend the next few weeks united together in the practice of three specific spiritual disciplines, Scripture Reading, Prayer, and Fasting. It is our goal that we will deepen our faith and dependance upon God, not only individually, but as a church family as well. To learn more check out part one of 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting.

More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
There is such a sense of expectancy in the Christmas season. We hope our gifts for others are “just right,” we hope everyone gets along at our various gatherings, we hope to make lasting and meaningful memories, and sometimes we hope for that perfect gift. Before Jesus came the first time, all of creation hoped for God to send the One that would rescue the world. Kari Jobe's song, “When Hope Came Down,” calls us to examine Christ, who “came down” to do the will of the Father. You and I are included in Father God's plan. This week we see the express purpose of Hope coming down. In this episode, I discuss the following: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture – this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Repetition Reading in a variety of translations Listening to an audio version of Scripture Reading aloud Sharing with friends Asking questions The account of the angels lifting up their voices – Luke 2:1-21 The desperate plea for God to “rend the heavens and come down” – Isaiah 64:1 Jesus declares that he “came down from heaven” – John 6:38 Jesus gets to the heart of the motives of the people – John 6:25-27 Matthew Henry's commentary comments that the people weren't seeking good doctrine, but full bellies Jesus' challenge to us to focus on the eternal, not the temporal – John 6:27 The people's limited understanding of the purpose of manna from heaven – John 6:25-31 Jesus defining the foreshadowing of manna from heaven – John 6:32-33 Discovering the purpose of the true Bread of Heaven – John 6:32-40 Application questions: What does God want me to think/understand?
