Margery Kempe cried so much and so loudly that she became one of the most annoying women in her hometown of Lynn as well as neighboring Lincoln and Norwich not to mention Jerusalem, Rome, and Santiago de compostella where she made pilgrimages. She was regarded as a madwoman, a heretic, a faker, and a lollard. She was also called a deeply pious and religious woman. She was examined by priests, bishops, and archbishops and threatened with burning at the stake. Friars denounced her from the pulpit. Anchorites alternately encouraged and rejected her. She idolized St. Bridget and met St. Julian of Norwich. And she wrote, with the aid of a priest as scribe, what is probably the very first autobiography in the English language.

Pastor Logan Ketterling reminded us that Jesus wept not because He lacked power, but because His compassion for His people is as much a part of His nature as His strength. This message calls us to love our neighbor with the same depth of empathy, weeping for the lost and pointing them to the hope and salvation only found in Jesus.
Imagine having a heart so filled with love for your people that even their sinfulness and its consequences that your heart breaks and you begin to weep. Such was the life and heart of the prophet Jeremiah. Listen and learn!
"Jesus wept"—a brief yet powerful statement—challenges us to deepen our relationship with Christ. This message examines how true faith is built not just on knowledge, but on a heartfelt connection that withstands life's trials.

In this episode of Unwritten, Trevor sits down with Ben Kelly to talk about how a life-altering moment of suffering destroyed his idyllic world and led him on an unexpected journey back to God's heart.Whether you're curious about the movement of the Holy Spirit in the world today, or just curious about dealing with immense suffering and loss, this conversation will inspire you to continue to see what God is doing in your life and demonstrate how the power of one person loving you can transform a life. What You'll Hear:• Ben recounts his freshman year at Harvard, where he met FOCUS missionaries and began "scuba diving into the ocean" of faith, while simultaneously watching his girlfriend Molly suffer unimaginably from the return of cancer.• The immense impact of the persistent love and gratuitous kindness of missionary Mike and the entire FOCUS team, who drove seven hours to attend Molly's funeral without telling him they were coming.• The visceral experience during adoration at the SEEK conference, prompted by the short line "Jesus wept", that revealed the answer to his pain was not a "neat and tidy phrase" or explanation, but the presence of Christ's own sorrow.Hit follow or subscribe so you don't miss future episodes!
He was knighted at Henry VIII's third wedding, carried Queen Jane Seymour's coffin, and greeted Anne of Cleves on her arrival in England. He fought in France, jousted at Edward VI's coronation, served as MP under Mary and Elizabeth, and—most heartbreakingly—wept as he escorted Elizabeth I to the Tower during Wyatt's Rebellion. On this day in Tudor history, 13th August 1566, Sir Humphrey Radcliffe died at his manor in Elstow, having served four Tudor monarchs with quiet loyalty and deep conscience. I'm Claire Ridgway, historian and author, and in this podcast I'm telling the story of a man you may never have heard of—but whose life intersects with some of the most dramatic and emotional events of the Tudor era. Why would the Son of God break down in tears? In this message from the This Verse Changed My Life series, Pastor Mike Berry walks through John 11 and unpacks the emotional moment when Jesus weeps at Lazarus' tomb. Whether you feel distant, dazed by pain, or spiritually dead, this story shows a Savior who is personal, powerful, and deeply moved by your brokenness. Jesus doesn't stand at a distance—He shows up, He calls your name, and He brings resurrection.

Most people in Scripture tremble when they see angels. But not Mary Magdalene. In this episode, we explore why Magdalene wept past angels at the tomb, mistook God for a gardener, and recognized the Risen Christ not by sight—but by the sound of her name. Drawing from the Song of Songs and the writings of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, we reflect on bridal longing, holy ache, and the bold love that doesn't settle for anything less than Jesus. This isn't just a story about the Resurrection. It's a meditation on how to seek Christ when He feels absent—and how He calls to each of us in the garden of our soul.Because it was the ache that made her holy.

Herod, in an attempt to ensure his kingship won't be taken from him after news of the King of the Jews born in Bethlehem, killed all young boys 2 and under in the same and surrounding areas. In this day and age, we're seeing something very similar.Tune in this week as Pastor Thomas continues our series "A Study Through Matthew," and exhorts the listener to take a stand for the Kingdom of God.If you would like to partner with BLVD Church and what we are doing in the community, you can make an investment of support at https://blvd.church/give

Send us a textIf Brigid Brophy's The King of a Rainy Country had a soundtrack, it might include the soft patter of rain on a garret window, jazz drifting from a smoky cafe, the hum of a Vespa on narrow cobblestone streets … and the obnoxious griping of a few dozen uncultured Americans! As the description suggests, Brophy's 1956 novel has a little bit of everything — atmosphere, nostalgia and poignancy mixed with subversive wit and madcap antics. Kim and Amy play “tour guide” examining Brophy's life and accomplishments, including this wonderfully quirky book, recently reissued by McNally Editions.Mentioned in this episode:McNally Editions The King of a Rainy Country by Brigid BrophyMarginalia article about Brigid Brophy and Iris Murdoch by Maria PopovaLost Ladies of Lit Episode No. 51 on Rosamond LehmannDusty Answer by Rosamond LehmannLost Ladies of Lit Episode No. 150 on Elizabeth SmartBy Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept by Elizabeth SmartLost Ladies of Lit Episode No. 184 on Elizabeth Taylor Vs. This week we are heading back to the 15th century to discuss the life of a middle class housewife who just so happened to also regularly speak to Jesus Christ.Following the traumatic birth of her first child, Margery Kempe began experiencing religious visions which would last for the rest of her life, and would eventually (after a misstep into the world of brewing) lead her to become a professional religious fanatic. It is a tale of miracles, prophesy, pilgrimages and more than one accusation of heresy. All to the backdrop of constant weeping...... so much weeping.Guest Host: Ollie Green Hosted on Acast. Pastor Nate brings the message "The King Who Wept” from Luke 19:28-40. This message is the celebration of Jesus coming into Jerusalem just days before His death. He is a King entering the capital city to shouts of praise. Yet, He weeps over the blindness of their hearts. We have a Savior who has power to save and compassion for those who need Him.

In the Garden of Gethsemane we see the full humanity of Jesus as he is overwhelmed by sorrow, let down by friends, and betrayed. The good news is not only that Jesus identifies with your sorrow in his life, but that he willingly surrenders his life to end all sorrow and save the world.
Pastor Pat shares a message of compassion and hope related to the Christian's response to grief, trauma, and related issues.
