What happens when following Jesus doesn't look like what you signed up for? In this message, guest speaker Jeff Stemple picks up where last week's sermon left off — right at the moment in Matthew 16 where Jesus begins speaking plainly about suffering, rejection, and death, leaving his disciples confused, disappointed, and wrestling with their faith. From there, Jeff walks us into one of the most breathtaking moments in all of Scripture: the Transfiguration. In Matthew 17, just six days after that difficult conversation, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain — and what they witness there is God's direct answer to their confusion and disillusionment. His face shining like the sun, Moses and Elijah present, and a voice from heaven declaring the same words spoken at Jesus' baptism — with one powerful addition: Listen to him. That command is the heartbeat of this message. When the disciples were struggling most, God didn't offer an explanation. He gave a command. And that command still stands for us today.Jeff unpacks three ways we can get to a place of genuine, obedient listening: seeing Jesus for who he truly is (not merely who we want him to be), resisting our desire to control and manage our circumstances, and following Jesus back down the mountain into the ordinary obedience of everyday life.If you've ever felt disillusioned in your faith — like the experience isn't matching the advertisement — this message is for you.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm
Jesus describes Himself as both the gate and the Good Shepherd, emphasizing a personal relationship with His people. His sheep recognize His voice and follow Him, finding safety, provision, and abundant life. In contrast to false shepherds who exploit, Jesus lays down His life for the sheep, demonstrating sacrificial love. This passage challenges us to discern which voices we follow and to trust the One who knows us by name. True life is found not in independence, but in listening to and following the Shepherd who leads us with care and authority.

Jesus heals a man born blind, demonstrating that God's work is about transformation, not blame. As the man gains physical sight, he also grows in spiritual understanding, eventually recognizing and worshiping Jesus as Lord. Meanwhile, the Pharisees reject the miracle, revealing their own spiritual blindness. The story highlights a powerful reversal: those who admit their need receive sight, while those who claim to see, remain blind. This passage calls us to humility, obedience, and openness to what Jesus wants to reveal, trusting Him to lead us from blindness into belief.

Jesus declares, “I am the light of the world,” offering clarity, truth, and life to those who follow Him. While the Pharisees challenge His authority, Jesus reveals that their issue is not a lack of evidence but spiritual blindness. He warns that rejecting Him leads to dying in sin, yet points forward to the cross as the ultimate revelation of His identity. This passage highlights the dividing line of belief—some reject the light, while others step into it. Those who follow Jesus move from darkness into life and find hope through faith in Him.

Study in the Book of John, Chapter 8 Don Haynes Download Join us for a study through the Gospel of John as we continue with Chapter 8. In this chapter, Christ's teaching at the temple is interrupted by the Pharisees and the woman caught in adultery. Following this encounter, Jesus declares Himself to be the Light of the World and teaches the Jews concerning His identity and mission. Although many initially profess belief in Him, their pride in their ancestry and confidence in their own understanding of Scripture ultimately prevent them from accepting Jesus as the Son of God.

Join us for a study through the Gospel of the Apostle John, continuing with John 7. About six months after the Bread of Life discourse in chapter 6, Jesus leaves Galilee and quietly enters Jerusalem during the Feast of Tabernacles. Soon, we find Him teaching boldly in the temple, even while the Jewish leaders seek to kill Him. Some believe, some doubt, and the Jewish leaders cannot find a way to arrest Him.A

What do you do when you've blown it so badly you don't think you can come back? This story walks through two men who failed Jesus in massive ways, Judas and Peter, and asks a question most of us avoid. What happens after the moment you cross the line? Both looked strong on the outside. Both crashed in the dark. One tried to fix it alone and lost everything. The other ran back to Jesus. Failure isn't the end. It's the fork in the road. One path is shame, hiding, and self-destruction. The other is honest repentance and a return to Jesus. Peter's story shows that even after denial, there's restoration, purpose, and a future. Not because he was strong, but because he went back to the only One who could fix what he couldn't.
What if eternal life isn't about heaven later, but knowing God right now? This message walks through Jesus' final prayer in John 17, where He pulls back the curtain and lets us hear His heart. On the night before His death, Jesus isn't focused on Himself. He's praying for His friends and for you. He shows that real life isn't religion or information, but a relationship. To know God personally, to trust Him fully, and to see Jesus as the clearest picture of who God really is.Everything shifts here. Jesus reveals that He has been fighting for you long before you ever thought about Him. Even in pain, confusion, and failure, God has been keeping you. Not removing you from hardship, but protecting your soul through it. The invitation is simple but costly. Stop holding back. Receive what Jesus says is true. Trust Him. Step into a life where you are known, kept, and deeply love
What if the voice you have been looking for has been speaking all along but your life is too loud to hear it?In John 16, Jesus sits with his closest friends hours before the cross and tells them something shocking. It is actually better for them if He leaves. Why? Because God would send the Holy Spirit to live inside them. Not beside them. Inside them. The Helper who convicts, guides, comforts, and strengthens when life gets heavy. In a noisy world full of pressure, distraction, and confusion, many of us want God's direction but ignore the conviction that comes first. The Holy Spirit does not shout over the chaos. He nudges. He exposes the baggage holding us back and leads us toward the life God designed. Conviction is not shame. It is an invitation to drop what is weighing you down so you can move forward. When we slow down and listen, we discover we are not alone, we are stronger than we think, and God is still guiding every step.
