In this inaugural episode, Grant & Pete discuss "Garlic Boy", a forgotten cartoon made by the legendary John R. Dilworth. They also talk about whatever else pops into their head. Later on they discuss their own cartoon characters.
Ali discusses the fantastically creepy cartoon, Courage the Cowardly Dog, created by John R. Dilworth. She reminisces about lines she and her siblings would always quote, terrifying villains that freaked her out as a kid and why Courage is the perfect protagonist for always facing his fears to protect his owners since, as he always says, "The things I do for love."
Because she's free to talk about whatever obscure topic she wants, M dives into one of her favorite cartoons as a kid, the kind of show that has lingered with her in a way that some would say suggests trauma. But they just didn't understand that sometimes, life can be just as or more so upsetting.Something a certain little purple dog knows all too well.Transcript available at our website. John Dilworth is an animator, actor, writer, and producer who is releasing a new film, Goose In High Heels. Dilly has won and was nominated for several film and animation awards. He is known for his cartoons, Courage the Cowardly Dog, The Dirdy Birdy, The Chicken from Outer Space, and Life In Transition which you can see at www.stretchfilms.com or their youtube channel Since childhood, I was drawn to John’s stories which explored fear, psychopathy & love. His work took my mind to uncomfortable and unfamiliar places, but I couldn’t look away. I talked with John to listen to his perspective on his art, life, and his relationship with the audience. In our conversation; we explored the internal landscape of the human mind, symbolism as it's told through religious stories and modern media, the value of humility and humor, and his experience creating his new film, “Goose In High Heels.” What happens when a single evil act disrupts a life, a community, a species? Remember how people reacted in the wake of 9-11, Hurricane Sandy, and Hurricane Katrina? In the wake of a single evil act, we're reminded of love. The way Dilly conveys this experience in Goose In High Heels, is beautiful and resonate. You can support Dilly by visiting his website which can be found above.
