Send us a textWhen a headhunter asked Budd Bentley, "How do you feel about chickens and eggs?" in late 2019, it marked the beginning of a transformative journey. After decades in automotive engineering and technology development, Bentley was about to step into the unfamiliar world of poultry technology as President of PMSI (now Prism Controls). In this revealing conversation with Brandon Mulnix, Bentley shares his unlikely path from solving Rubik's Cubes as a child to leading innovation in agricultural technology. His early career at Prince Corporation taught him a foundational principle: everyone starts on the manufacturing line because "what makes money is when we send product out the door." This grounding in practical operations would shape his leadership philosophy throughout his career.Bentley's entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found a mobile app development company in 2005—two years before the iPhone existed—where he learned valuable lessons about innovation timing and market readiness. When he eventually joined the poultry technology sector in January 2020 (just before COVID-19 changed everything), he brought fresh eyes to an established company. "I didn't even know what end of the chicken the egg comes out," he jokes, but he recognized the passionate team's potential for growth through process implementation.Under Bentley's leadership, Prism Controls grew from 28 to 44 people while developing crucial new technologies like Reach, Eggsite, and Therm. His secret? "Embrace the process, and the process will set you free." By documenting workflows, separating operational activities from innovation, and implementing the Entrepreneurial Operating System framework, the company created a structure that could scale without losing quality or customer focus. As Bentley prepares for his next challenge as President of Big Dutchman USA, he reflects on what makes the agricultural technology sector special: the directness of farmers as customers. "You don't have to spend mental energy thinking about what they really mean or what they're really thinking, because they just tell you," he explains. This refreshing honesty allows technology providers to focus entirely on problem-solving rather than decoding communications.Whether you're new to agricultural technology or a seasoned professional, Bentley's journey offers valuable insights into leadership, process development, and industry transition. Listen now to discover how documenting the invisible can transform organizations and set innovation free.Hosted by Brandon Mulnix - Director of Commercial Accounts - Prism ControlsThe Poultry Leadership Podcast is only possible because of its sponsor, Prism ControlsFind out more about them at www.prismcontrols.com

Customers know Brown's Chicken for its crispy buttermilk fried chicken and flaky biscuits. The Illinois-based franchise has a reputation for delicious but simple comfort food. But through no fault of its own, the words "Brown's Chicken" are also synonymous with one fateful night in January of 1993.“A Real Hometown” is the trite but apt motto of Palatine, Illinois, a quaint middle-class suburb west of Chicago. On a snowy Friday evening, the staff and owners of the city's local Brown's Chicken franchise were closing up when two final customers arrived just past 9 p.m. As the night drew on and the employees hadn't returned home, the families of the owners and workers began to worry, prompting police to investigate. When they entered the dark building, police were shocked to find seven bodies stacked in the restaurant's freezer and fridge. The killers, of course, were long gone. In the months that followed, the horrendous story rocked Chicagoland and the case remained unsolved for nine years. The Brown's Chicken massacre is one of the most infamous cases in Illinois history, yet it is often misremembered. In Something Big, Patrick Wohl gives a new account of the story, taking readers behind the scenes and sharing the perspective of the people who lived it.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Welcome to Season 5, Episode 32! We love having conversations with a lot of amazing authors of a lot of fabulous books. It's even more fun when we're able to invite an amazing author who's also a long-time friend or family member. So this episode is exciting for us because our guest is Kimberly Tso, the author of the new picture book Tic-Tac-Toe Chicken which is published by Third State Books (one of our favorite publishers)! And yes, we've known Kim for the better part of three decades. Tic-Tac-Toe Chicken is a picture book inspired by the true story of Lillie, a real chicken trained to play tic-tac-toe in New York's Chinatown Fair arcade, and her relocation to a farm for rescued animals. Featuring vibrant paintings of Chinatown by Louie Chin, Tic-Tac-Toe Chicken showcases a local cultural touchstone and shows how children can stand up for what they believe in and solve tough problems with clever thinking. You don't have to wait till Tic-Tac-Toe Chicken's release date on August 19, 2025, because it's available for pre-order through Third State Books, Bookshop, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and more! You can even get a signed copy from Once Upon a Time Bookstore. Kim is an active member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) SoCal and SCBWI LA. She loves the challenge of writing complex ideas in an accessible way. She also likes to draw, paint, and collage. In addition to writing children's books, Kim is the owner of Velocity Ink, LLC, a consulting firm that provides grant writing and strategic planning services to progressive nonprofit organizations. A very successful grant writer, she's also the author of the workbook "Fix It and Get Funded: 10 Do-It-Yourself Repairs for Grant Proposals.” To see more of Kim's work, you can visit her website kimberlytso.com, or follow her on Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, or subscribe to her Substack newsletter. There's a sharp turn into AI copyright fights, family life vs screens, and a listener letter on pilot mental health.Mid‑show is a deep dive on ME/CFS's genetic breakthrough, then a long, unsentimental look at Gaza, Hamas, ceasefires, and who could plausibly govern anything next. Stateside, Tulsi, Brennan, Mueller, and the Epstein files swirl together with youth‑vote and gerrymander chat. They close with sport: Wallabies' best fortnight in ages, a cracking England–India Test, Ashes nerves, AFL chaos at Melbourne, and a quick NRL/Swans CEO note—before ending on a Trader Joe's chicken funeral and a cheeky Ozempic joke.Chapters00:00:00 — Hong Kong's black rainTriple black rain signals; ~300mm in a day at Mid‑Levels.City empties as people stay home; flood photos doing the rounds.00:01:36 — Tasmania's numbers gamePremier commissioned without a majority; Greens won't move no‑confidence.Governor Barbara Baker's “test it on the floor” remark and what's in scope.Labor/Greens maths; low appetite for another poll, but conditions exist.00:05:49 — Bins for blades: the machete “amnesty”Drop‑off slots outside police stations; comparison to firearms amnesties.Media flurries vs actual incident data; last big cluster months ago.00:07:21 — Protests, policing, and the far‑rightSydney Bridge March crowd size; VIPs photographed with Khamenei backdrop.Nazis on Parliament steps in balaclavas; state‑by‑state policing contrasts.Flags, chants, and where police draw the line on intervention.00:14:18 — The Gareth Ward messConviction details; bail, incarceration, and expulsion difficulty.Kiama re‑election as an independent, salary while imprisoned.Appeals, precedent, and public disgust.00:20:20 — Farewells and AI fightsDavid Dale and Col Joy remembered.Productivity Commission's AI stance; artists vs scraping; Zuckerberg's book haul.Peter Garrett's industry savvy; JP Morgan's internal AI rollout.00:26:16 — Kids, screens, and breakfastThe great iPad panic; why we don't judge strangers' mornings.Family meals are good; mind your own business is better.00:28:23 — Mailbag: pilots and mental healthFAA caution vs counselling stigma; past “deliberate crash” cases.Policy that pushes people away from help is bad policy.00:31:10 — ME/CFS: genetics change the storyDecodeME links to immune and nervous system pathways. It's physiological, not psychosomatic; GET/CBT harm for PEM sufferers.RACGP guidance lag vs UK/US updates; a long‑overdue turn.00:37:10 — Gaza, Hamas, and the absence of good options2005 pull‑out, tunnels, aid skimming; ceasefire vs aid corridors.Who could govern Gaza; peacekeepers, UNRWA skepticism, and Hamas reality.Ehud Barak's Qatar funding allegations; elections, starvation, ethics.01:03:21 — US politics: Russiagate reruns and Epstein filesTulsi's evolution; Brennan on TV; Mueller was Trump‑era appointed.“Lock her up” vs AI Obama arrest video; the file‑release calculus.Youth‑vote shifts; Republicans' state‑house gerrymanders.01:21:42 — Media Watch vs SkyThe TikTok immigration clip Sky ran and then pulled. Why mainstream reporting beats cherry‑picked viral outrage.01:24:44 — Sport: a proper weekendWallabies find a game fans can love; Lions tour lifts the code.England–India: great chase, Siraj's spell, and pressure's toll.Ashes preview: Bazball mettle in Aus conditions; pace attack is the key.AFL: Simon Goodwin sacked, Melbourne chaos, Adelaide surging; NRL Panthers steady.Swans appoint Matthew Pavlich CEO.01:36:54 — Chicken funerals and closingA full black‑robed rite in a US supermarket.“Put Ozempic in the water” gag; letters and see‑you‑next‑week.Notable quotes00:00:25 — “We had three black rain signals… 300 mils in a day here at Mid‑Levels.”00:03:31 — “It's not for the governor to be deciding when numbers are tested.”00:06:01 — “Bins outside the police station so miscreants can slide the machete through the slot.”00:08:43 — “They stood on the steps of Parliament and zig‑hiled their way across that protest.”00:14:09 — “Personally, I think let people tell you who they are.”00:18:50 — “He's essentially been convicted of rape… he's going to get a holiday.”00:24:49 — “To boost productivity by 4%, it's decided you just let AI go.”00:33:59 — “It is neurological and immunological. I was told specifically not to go to that grocery store anymore— but they had the rice noodles I liked. The thing was, actually, this time, they didn't— and so I knew my time was again coming to a close. I knew it would be the last time before I left, and regardless that I was going to leave anyway, but it felt like the last time— there were no rice noodles at all, and with my arms full of essentials, I figure listening to the voice in my head that told me not to do these things was probably for the best.'I can hear that.' But I was beginning to be rebellious in my actions and endeavors, because I simply wasn't making money, and this was making me not just sad, but actually very angry. {Enter The Multiverse} Professor Tannenbaum. Sir. Yikes. I'm sure I'm shown up at the Equinox Just for [someone] to torture me Cause for what? I'm dead broke, and not a [] blonde I'm on another trial Been tryin, but been a while It's too bad I'm too tired to run a mile I been Up all night It ain't right I hate New York I'm so sick of being broke But I still cannot find a job, I'm so certain that it's hell that I'm l surprised It's not on fire, But maybe all hell is for real l Is a cold heart world With no love in it Where you stop being inspired It's murder for hire with motorcycles And corrupt politicians So if I look a little older I'm smart to sue em So y'op wanna walk toward And cut me off Tryna get noticed by a God But I been only in New York So I'm humbled, mumble like i'm nobody But the no ones try to follow me I swallow all my humble cards I want to pick them up But just for once , I leave my garbage on the floor All these skanks Look like Hillary swank Come to thinking they slick tryna take the energy I make They all look like snakes Lazy But never cease to amaze me Walking up in the world I made Still tryna hate me. Thankfully, it's just a think tank to me and when the balance beam turns the tables on em I'm he back in my temple home; Now it's your turn to be homeless, Ya boneless serpent This is just a bonus l Cause I took a wrong turn But it was the right one Cause I got some rhymes done. Ya'll get off of my nuts Look, I got nine Trump cards Welcome to my dump, lards You're non recyclable! What can I say Besides, That I'm always correct Look at the thing that coughs she's gross and she don't have the touch The flight of love. The touch of god, The twist of the hand Or knowing from before But she benefits off of the blood The coughs The sign of the demons and dark ones It was already a done deal. I knew it was sort of a scam, or maybe even sometimes that rich white peoples had the worst demons of all— My fears had been confirmed the moment I walked in, someone coughing in that same disgusting way as I had been used to as soon as I approached the desk to activate my pass— but I knew as soon as I walked in that it was worth it; I would save everything that I had and sell my outdated DJ gear I wasn't using anyway, and I would take advantage of the offer to reinstate my membership; this would serve me so much more than my equipment was anyway. I wasn't getting along in the DJ world, and in fact after the cancellation of REQUISITE, the disrespect at [redacted] , and the techno Jew telling me my clothes and looks made me worthless in the industry, I considered he might have been right; I would be better off back where I started, at Equinox and broke but at least amongst the clean and quiet elite— this would raise my vibration and clear my headspace for something greater, eventually…even if it was just a job in luxury retail–going back to school or figuring out how to get behind the scene. My DJ days seemed to be over; I needed security and longevity, and I needed the opportunity to come back at the price with a one month advance desperately. Perhaps six weeks of training could jumpstart something better; I didn't know. But selling my equipment was worth it, because being a DJ was getting me nowhere but a quickly depleting supply of coconut water. Man wheezy for real And I don't even feel the pain Came a long way to Wayne I took the 2 train, Fell out of the truth Still trying to find 2 chainz But I went the wrong way I been up all day Somethings wrong, I should probably go to a hospital A long time ago I'm hoping that this tissue mass is cancer And it's fatal tho Fee like I'm inflatable Ain't no man is faithful yo I'll probably smoke a big ol bowl When I get back to heaven, man With a rebel yell, she cried: omg, a leg press. Feeling like, a little bit friendless Should probably get a wet wipe Should probably get some leg lifts in Should probably get the leg press in It's been a late one Should probably get some press ons Probably get my press kits done Should probably call it in But then again Don't got a home much longer Do I! Parallels, This shit is real I get it in for a second then Case dismissed I kept it innocent I went to equinox to reinvent myself A second Take a second thought, And then forgot— I'm at the wrong plaza Nooo? Noooo not [The Rock And The Kite, Part ☠️] The diabolical plan worked The motorcycles weakened the [trigger] bad, We really had her, Out on Brooklyn queens border She looks ten year older Her hair is so out of order Her nails is l chipping in polish Got her caught up in the moment She probably can't even afford it But that is just not out problem! Haha Fuck, I forgot how to do this. Uh. Forgot all my gym etiquette I got a running album on But the track closed For the free trial Imma eat out And by that I mean Freestyle I be out side When I get midtown I ain't been down Since I came out The train station Screens, screens screens Someone please please please Fix me Seem to be Splitting at the seams seams seams I could scream, scream, scream Yes, I see me in the media I need, need, need Something to Ease ease ease me Like an easel Or Julius ceaser Jesus. There's no time I contemplate more On how strange the humanity is Then when working out Intensively. No longer really even interested In sexual relations as it ascertains I may just be the opposite of Satan And I just don't have the patience Or the taste for any sort of Romanticism or fantasies In a trance, I guess But I've been living in the trash, I guess Well, that was depressing. Yes, going all the way uptown And to equinox in the same day Is very often A lot. UPTOWN Yo. Wtf this place is gross. Eeeeeeeehh— GROSS. Uptown is quieter than my hood But full of dead things, I just dread these realizations, But to spread the disease is easy I'm in the red and queasy Meaning to get elevated But I made a play today What was I saying Lil bitz Bro I'm vegan but just got a cat And I did not realize shopping for cat food Would be a conflict of interest . Like, I know cats are carnivorous, I'm not dumb. But I'm discussing this with my AI assistant like, Trying to find a natural cruelty free brand, And she's like “Oh, here's some vegan cat food.” I was like, “Enough, white people!” I love white people— The good ones, you know. Not the *coughs heavily* Like, Those are obviously bad but like Mostly they're alright— Mostly cause of things like this: Vegan cat food! I'm a vegan! But imm like “Don't be dumb.” That's dumb. Cats are meat eaters. That's just vicious! And it's overpriced! I could see if you were cutting corners and skipping prices by like, Forgetting the meat, And this was like a nutritious, half priced alternative But no, Like most things that are vegan, It's double-priced. I'm like “Ahem, I was looking for cruelty-free brands! This by the price point alone is cruel! But I did not realize shopping for this on Amazon Would be such an entire conflict of interest, I'm like “Eughh!” “Gravy swirl” I'm like, “Gross.” And then I'm looking at the flavors like, Are people actually shopping for cat food, Like they're shopping for themselves? They're like “Oh bone-broth infused” That sounds good! “Chicken beef swirled flavor” I'm like “Eugh.” Like it is obnoxious and nasty, I must admit, I've been a Whole Foods shopper for too long I'm like “Hmm. How about sweet potato… like, pumpkin-cod?” No? Ah, here we are “Brown rice and fillet…” Classy. Jeff Rousseau's story is one of redemption and difficult recovery. In the 1990s, Jeff fell into addiction and found himself caught in a world of meth—one that would ravage northeast Arkansas for decades. After multiple run-ins with the law, he eventually landed in prison, where he encountered Christ and began a slow but determined path to healing. Along the way, Jeff managed Paragould's beloved Bonanza restaurant (and even shares the secret Monterrey Chicken recipe), battled Lyme disease, and survived a severe case of COVID that left him on a ventilator and facing the possibility of a double lung transplant. But in a moment doctors couldn't explain, the scars in his lungs were gone. In this episode, Jeff reflects on what God has done, how far he's come, and where he's going next.

It came last weekend at the Grand American Barbecue World Championship in Port Jervis, New York. The $15,000 prize was one of the bigger non-majors he's won and the second GC in the last month for he and wife Sherry's Iowa Smokey D's team. Darren told us about feeling reinvigorated about competition BBQ these days and it sounds like the three-time American Royal World Series of BBQ Grand Champion and past Jack Daniels World BBQ Invitational Grand Champ is far from finished. One of the most-interesting tidbits is how Darren, even with all his accolades, is not past asking some other top competitors for some help in getting his Pork Ribs back on track. What did he find out? And what about BBQ television shows? Darren explains why he's never had any interest in doing them. On this episode of Taste Buds with Deb, host Debra Eckerling speaks with Peter Shankman, entrepreneur, speaker, best-selling author, and founder of Source of Sources. A Jewish single dad, Shankman became an amateur chef, because he loves cooking with his 12-year-old daughter.   “I used to think [cooking] was just about creating food that I enjoyed, and then I had a kid and I realized the bar is actually not so much food you enjoy, but food they'll enjoy,” explains Shankman, who was born, raised, and lives in New York. “To create a meal that she actually likes and that we sit and eat together after having cooked together is a lot of fun.”   Shankman said his interest in cooking happened both after becoming a parent and also after really understanding his ADHD.    “When you're ADHD it's much easier to order takeout and to have food delivered,” he says. “You want to set good habits for your kids … so you learn that maybe ordering in every night is not the best way to do things.”    Shankman says that having ADHD gives him a more experimental mindset, when it comes to cooking. He'll be at the store, spot an ingredient and start thinking about different things he can make with it.    “You get to create these ideas [for meals], and if they work great, if they don't, life goes on,” he explains. “But either way, it's a lot of fun.”    Peter Shankman talks about some of his favorite single Dad cooking recommendations (“one day a week should be a cheat or comfort food”) and recipes, including his easy crockpot chicken, which you can find at JewishJournal.com/podcasts. He also shares anecdotes, including ones with his daughter, his grandmother, and how competing as an ironman triathlete led to joining an Orthodox Jewish swimming club, complete with tailgate breakfast.    Learn more about Peter Shankman at Shankman.com, follow @PeterShankman and his adventures on Instagram, Threads and LinkedIn. “Is your wife setting up playdates for you? If so… it might be time to reclaim your manhood.” In this bold and hilarious episode of The JB and Sandy Show, the crew dives into the trending term “man-keeping”—a phenomenon where women take on the emotional and social labor for the men in their lives. From organizing their friendships to coaching them through feelings, Tricia, JB, and Sandy unpack why this dynamic is exhausting for women and unattractive to boot. Sandy shares his “bottle it up and blow once a year” emotional strategy, while JB reflects on the importance of guy time and self-sufficiency. The conversation turns to masculinity, DIY skills, and why YouTube tutorials and Home Depot wisdom are essential tools for modern men. Then, the show shifts gears to Austin's evolving urban landscape, including permanent barriers on 6th Street and “living streets” designed for pedestrians. The crew debates aesthetics, safety, and the impact on local businesses. Finally, it's all about football: Texas is ranked #1 in the preseason poll, and the season opener against Ohio State is already stirring nerves. Sandy offers unconventional self-defense tips for fans traveling to Columbus—including chicken wings as a distraction tactic.Key Moments:

This episode features an interview with Andrew Thomas, VP of Marketing at Archer Meat Snacks, a company that makes jerky, sticks and sausages, from real ingredients. Andrew has over 15 years of experience in the CPG food and beverage industry, with brands like Chicken of the Sea, Wilde Chips, and PepsiCo. He discusses Archer's recent rebrand, their go-to-market strategies, and the importance of social and influencer marketing. Key Takeaways:Awareness and creating memory structures for customers helps build a moat around your brand. Don't underestimate the power of a strong PR flywheel. Once it gets going, it has an outsized impact. Long-term partnerships are the way to go with influencers. Fewer, bigger, better is a more strategic and authentic approach. Quote:   We're the fourth largest meat snack brand in the nation. Our awareness is not the fourth largest. It's lagging quite a bit behind. And so what I'm trying to do is really build that mental availability, build a big ownable, distinctive brand that creates those memory structures in our consumer's mind so that when they go to the store, when they go to Costco, they go to Sam's, they go to Target, they go to Walmart, they recognize and see us because we have a pretty successful business today, but people are buying the grass fed beef mini sticks. They haven't necessarily been buying the Country Archer or the Archer grass fed beef mini sticks. And we want to create a moat around our brand. We want to generate a lot of that stickiness. Episode Timestamps: *(05:46) The Trust Tree: Being scrappy with social and influencer*(23:09) The Playbook: Leading a strategic rebrand*(45:43) Quick Hits: Andrew's quick hits Sponsor:Pipeline Visionaries is brought to you by Qualified.com.
