Christa sits down with Randi Zuckerberg, entrepreneur, Social 7, and elite ultrarunner who recently set an FKT on the 82-mile Baja Sur trail and finished the wildly difficult 250-mile Cocodona race. In today's episode of Psych Talk I chat with author Jackie Disch about grieving the death of a spouse. We discuss her memoir Losing Katy: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Living Grief, which is an account of her experiences surrounding the death of her wife Katy. We discuss things Jackie wishes people knew or understood better when it comes to grief surrounding the death of a spouse, as well as some challenges, differences, and unique experiences that LGBTQ+ individuals face when it comes to grief related to the death of a spouse. Jackie discusses ripple grief when it comes to experiencing grief and having a chosen family, in addition to what good care and support look like when honoring pronouns, relationship language, and community context. We discuss the many ways in which LGBTQ+ marriages can be validated or erased, at individual, institutional, and systems levels and how validation and visibility change the grief experience. He drove a truck across America listening to talk radio. Somewhere between 9/11, the Obama years, and a long personal reckoning with his own anger, Wilk Wilkinson became one of the most unlikely figures in the depolarization movement: a committed conservative who believes the two-party system is tearing the country apart, and who is doing something about it. Wilk is the Director of Media Systems and Operations for Braver Angels, the nation's largest cross-partisan, volunteer-led movement to bridge the partisan divide. He also hosts the podcast Derate the Hate. In this conversation, Wilk traces his political awakening from post-9/11 talk radio to becoming radicalized by the polarization he once participated in, and why he eventually chose the harder path. He and Corey dig into tribalism, political identity, January 6th, immigration enforcement, the two-party doom loop, and what it actually takes to stay in conversation across real disagreement. Wilk argues that the single most destructive shift in American civic life is that people now treat political attacks as personal attacks. When your party becomes your tribe, criticism of a policy feels like an assault on who you are. That's not politics anymore. That's warfare. Tribalism isn't a flaw. It's a feature we have to consciously override. We evolved as tribal creatures because belonging to a group kept us alive. The problem is that ancient wiring hasn't caught up with modern civil society. Wilk and Corey agree: staying in real conversation across difference isn't natural. It's a decision. Most Trump voters aren't MAGA loyalists, and treating them as a monolith makes everything worse. Citing the More in Common "Beyond MAGA" research, Wilk points out that only about 29% of the 77 million people who voted for Trump in 2024 fit the MAGA hardliner profile. When we flatten a diverse group into a caricature of its worst actors, we guarantee the doom loop continues. You can support border security and still call out a botched implementation. Wilk doesn't hedge: he wanted the border closed. He also calls the deportation strategy's implementation a disaster, citing constitutional violations, erosion of institutional trust, and the breakdown of basic civic norms. This is what it sounds like when a conservative applies principles rather than party loyalty. The fix starts local, not national. Both Corey and Wilk see more reason for hope at the community and state level than in Washington. Local relationships, shared problems, and the ability to actually look someone in the eye still create space for the kind of trust that national politics has almost completely destroyed. TEMPO DE REFLETIR 01719 – 30 de março de 2026 Lucas 12:7 – Até os cabelos da vossa cabeça estão todos contados. Não temais! Bem mais valeis do que muitos pardais. Nosso Deus é maravilhoso e digno de confiança, porque Ele domina o infinitamente grande e o infinitamente pequeno. Ao mesmo tempo em que gera uma gigantesca galáxia, cuida dos prótons e elétrons. O elétron é a partícula fundamental na constituição dos átomos e moléculas, portadora da menor quantidade de carga elétrica livre, que se conhece. Nada escapa ao conhecimento de Deus. Mas Ele não tem apenas uma memória infinita: Seu envolvimento em tudo o que existe é condição indispensável para a sobrevivência do Universo e de todas as criaturas. Se pudéssemos ter uma visão do Universo, veríamos em todas as coisas a frase: Deus está no controle. Todas as coisas, desde as de dimensão colossal, até as partículas infinitesimais, estão nas mãos de nosso Deus, pois Ele é onipotente. E Sua onipotência, aliada ao amor e à misericórdia, cobre todo tipo de necessidade em qualquer ponto do Universo. Jesus, ao falar a Seus discípulos sobre o fermento dos fariseus, disse que “nada há encoberto que não venha a ser revelado; e oculto que não venha a ser conhecido” (Lc 12:2). Na mesma ocasião, confortou os discípulos e a multidão que se aglomerou para ouvi-Lo, dizendo que nem mesmo os pardais são ignorados por Deus. O que queria o Mestre dizer com isso? Que os seres humanos têm muito valor diante de Deus. E, para dar ênfase ao cuidado divino, disse que “até os cabelos da vossa cabeça estão todos contados”. Como houvesse pessoas com uma autoestima muito baixa no meio da multidão, Ele acrescentou: “Não temais! Bem mais valeis do que muitos pardais” (Lc 12:7). Nosso valor só pode ser medido ao pé da cruz de Cristo. Ali está a maior prova de que Deus nos ama. O Calvário é o ponto mais distante do Universo, ao qual Jesus Se dirigiu para dizer que temos valor. Deus nos tem em grande conta porque somos filhos, Seus filhos. Durante este dia, erga a cabeça e enfrente a vida com alegria e otimismo, pois Aquele que sustenta o Universo, cuida de você também. Vamos orar? The threads of Scotland's identity, Tartan's journey I'm sorry to say that Tartan was not invented in Scotland. Gasp, horror, but this is just a reality that we will have to live with. In fact, when you've listened to this Podcast, you'll realise that this Iconic symbol of Scotland is so important to this country because of what Scotland did to this chequered cloth rather than inventing it. Scotland's Tartan's story begins with the 'Falkirk fragment', a simple undyed wool check, found in the town of Falkirk, used to stopper a Roman coin hoard in the third century. Though modest, it reveals that patterned twill weaving long predated Scotland, with similar checks found across ancient Eurasia. In early and medieval Scotland, tartan was practical rather than symbolic, shaped by local dyes, regional weaving traditions, and the ecology of the Highlands. The belted plaid later became the defining garment of Highland life, and during the Jacobite risings tartan gained political meaning as a visual marker of rebellion. After Culloden, the Dress Act attempted to suppress Highland identity by banning tartan, but it survived in remote communities and military regiments. In the nineteenth century, Romanticism, Sir Walter Scott, and firms like Wilsons of Bannockburn reinvented tartan as national dress and created the modern system of clan tartans. Diaspora communities from all over the world embraced tartan as a portable homeland, while the British Empire enhanced it's reputation. In the twentieth century, designers, political movements, and popular culture reinterpreted tartan again, turning it into a flexible symbol of identity, rebellion, and heritage. TEMPO DE REFLETIR 01718 – 29 de março de 2026 I João 4:8 (versão Williams) – Aquele que não ama nunca conheceu a Deus por experiência, porque Deus é amor. A Bíblia nos diz que “Deus é amor”. Se você não conhece a Deus “por experiência”, então você realmente não tem conhecimento daquilo que o amor genuíno é. Algumas pessoas acham que Deus não as ama e por isso fogem dEle, repetindo a experiência de Adão e Eva no Jardim do Éden. Depois de pecarem, esconderam-se de Deus. Ficaram com medo dEle, porque se haviam separado dEle. Mas não nos podemos ocultar de Deus, tampouco ignorá-Lo. Ou somos fugitivos de Deus, ou cativos do Seu amor. Dwight L. Moody, o grande evangelista batista, disse a respeito do amor: “Se eu tão-somente pudesse fazer com que os homens entendessem o real sentido das palavras do apóstolo João, ‘Deus é amor', eu tomaria esse único texto e iria de um lado para outro do mundo proclamando essa grandiosa verdade. Se puder convencer uma pessoa de que a ama, você lhe conquistou o coração. Se você puder realmente fazer com que as pessoas creiam que Deus as ama, nós as veríamos aglomerando-se para entrar no reino do Céu” (The Way to God, p. 7). As pessoas não valorizam nada neste mundo mais do que o amor.
