Ben and Trevor continue to reimagine old DOS games as new, and then proceed to play some more Ramped Up Click Pitch. Games include Magic Pockets, Star Control, a game where you play as a Cauliflower who has joined a pirate crew, a Saved by the Bell game with a difference and a game where Hulk is the smart one and Bruce Banner has a lower IQ.
All 25 hole games are complete in the Multi! I'm down to 20 games left to implement. In this episode, I discuss the method I am using to prevent damage to the Magic Pockets unit, and special thanks to Michael Ocean for a second opinion on the code I had written. Ryan Claytor and I spent some time discussing the Robo-Frenzy cabinet and some time at the Flippers arcade at Grandy, NC. Some great questions came from a user on Pinside regarding the bingos I've implemented thus far. Some pretty interesting tech stuff, so I thought I'd put some in the podcast. Today's game is the first of the YEAR OF FLIPPERLESS (as suggested by Ryan Claytor): 1938 Exhibit 'Regatta' http://ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=4671
Gayety is one of only two games with the Magic Pockets feature. This feature allows you to kick the balls physically from hole number 1 to number 7 and back again, stopping anywhere along the way. The game will spot numbers at mystery intervals, has corners scoring, three columns of Magic Lines, and has the "3 scores as 4" feature. Extra balls allow you to have up to 8 chances at getting a 5 in a row. I hope everyone had a great Christmas or happy holidays. :-) Backglass: Cabinet: Playfield: Flier explaining Magic Pockets: http://bingo.cdyn.com/machines/bally/gayety/resources/fly-gayety-1.jpg
Gay Time is a fantastic player that has features and gameplay well ahead of its time. The Magic Pockets feature, which has always sounded so cool, is actually incredibly cool. The game will sense when there is a ball in the first row of holes, and allow or prevent you from moving based on the position. Aside from that, there are spotted numbers, corners scoring, and the magic lines. All explained in this episode!
Magic Pockets are a unique under playfield mechanism, only used on two Bally Bingos in 1955 - Gayety and Gay Time. These bingos allowed you to reposition balls in the top row of the bingo playfield (numbers 1-7). If this wasn't enough, these machines also had the magic lines feature that allowed you to reposition numbers on the backglass. This allowed for the ability to make some great winning combinations.
