Aly & AJ. Ever heard of them?! Only the most iconic Disney Channel sister duo ever! And they go wayyy back with the Cyrus gals. From Hannah Montana tour memories to redefining yourself after Disney, this episode will transport you straight back to your favorite 2000s era… especially now that Disney Raves are taking over TikTok and crowds are screaming their songs all over again. Should Aly & AJ collab with Miley, Brandi & Noah? We think, yes. They get into their unshakable sister bond and why they'll never have a potential breakup (sorry, we had to), plus how this renaissance era somehow hits harder than any chart moment ever did. And in true Stoner fashion, they go on tangents about aging in Hollywood, YES to Cowbells, but noooo to the Sweet 16 movie, their unexpected country music roots, and why touring will either heal you or humble you. And to wrap it up, Aly provides important new mother advice that Mama Tish 100% agrees with. It's empowering for women, inspiring for artists and pure nostalgia for the Disney kids.Love you, Stoners.

The Dylan Whisperer Rob Stoner and I have been in the same city, on the same street, in the same club where I was promoting and he was playing, at the same time, over and over, and somehow we never met. Until tonight. He was worth waiting for. What a fun edutainment! We talked about his heroes, Chuck Berry to Jerry Lee Lewis, Rob's famous photographer father, who, like Rob's later boss, Bob Dylan, used art to change our thinking, to his own early days playing with Pete Seeger and Tim Hardin. From high school bands playing keyboards, guitar, and then bass, great story there as to why he picked it up, to his first session with Pete Seeger, another important mind-shaper, to Tim Hardin, and Don Mclean, with his first ill-fated named first album, Tapestry, to his second album and the session which bore his first #1 hit, American Pie. Rob tells the tale, from soup to platinum single. The session with Robert Gordon and Link Wray, recording a not-yet-wildly famous Bruce Springsteen's first recording of his soon-to-be monster hit, Fire. Where a young Rob Stoner came up with the iconic bass line that Bruce would soon “borrow.” Rob had his own record deal in '73, meeting Dylan a year later, Bob telling Rob he'd come to call, and how Rob's band became the backup band for Dylan's album Desire when he finally did call about a decade later. Rolling Thunder, Rob, the musical director, for Dylan's long-held dream to put together a traveling carnival show. How it worked, all the moving parts, and the one erratic member. Dylan. Rob told us about their relationship, never knowing if this gig would be his last, and how, thanks to Robert Gordon (and Link Wray), whom Rob would play with for over 40 years, helped Rob to end it on his terms. We talked the pandemic and how Zoom changed the game for Rob (and me, and many of us), who grew his teaching practice and extended his reach globally. His daily Facebook videos, doing what he loves, playing music that he loves, which receive millions of views. A massive Dylan fan since the 60s and enthusiast of most of the artists Rob has played with, it was a thrill to get his take on the Complete Unknown, what it was like for Baez to play with Dylan, why Robert Gordon and Link Wray eventually split up… and so much more. Rob's been there, done that, and charmingly shares the tales. Loved every moment! New CDC surveillance data show encouraging declines in several sexually transmitted infections—but a troubling increase in syphilis among newborns. In this episode, the Director of the Division of STD Prevention at the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, Dr. Bradley Stoner breaks down the key takeaways from the 2024 provisional STI surveillance report, including declines in chlamydia, gonorrhea, and primary and secondary syphilis, alongside the continued rise in congenital syphilis. The conversation explores what's driving progress, the prevention strategies showing impact, and where urgent action is still needed. Dr. Stoner also discusses how states and local health departments can use provisional data to guide interventions, expand screening and treatment, and prepare for improved data access through CDC's new One CDC Data Platform.Supporting Pharmacies as Contraception Access Hubs | ASTHOOrganizational Strategic Planning Guide | ASTHO

This week on Sinica, I speak with Jia Ruixue and Li Hongbin, coauthors of The Highest Exam: How the Gaokao Shapes China. We're talking about China's college entrance exam — dreaded and feared, with outsized ability to determine life outcomes, seen as deeply flawed yet also sacrosanct, something few Chinese want drastically altered or removed. Cards on table: I had very strong preconceptions about the gaokao. My wife and I planned our children's education to get them out of the Chinese system before it became increasingly oriented toward gaokao preparation. But this book really opened my eyes. Ruixue is professor of economics at UC San Diego's School of Global Policy and Strategy, researching how institutions like examination systems shape governance, elite selection, and state capacity. Hongbin is James Liang Chair at Stanford, focusing on education, labor markets, and institutional foundations of China's economic development. We explore why the gaokao represents far more than just a difficult test, the concrete incentives families face, why there are limited alternative routes for social mobility, how both authors' own experiences shaped their thinking, why exam-based elite selection has been so durable in China, what happened when the exam system was suspended during the Cultural Revolution, why inequality has increased despite internet access to materials, why meaningful reform is so politically difficult, how education translated into productivity and GDP growth, the gap between skill formation and economic returns, how the system shapes governance and everyday life, and the moral dimensions of exam culture when Chinese families migrate to very different education systems like the U.S.6:18 – What the gaokao actually represents beyond just being a difficult exam 11:54 – Why there are limited alternative pathways for social mobility 14:23 – How their own experiences as students shaped their thinking 18:46 – Why the gaokao is a political institution, not just educational policy 22:21 – Why exam-based elite selection has been so durable in China 28:30 – What happened in late Qing and Cultural Revolution when exams were suspended 33:26 – Has internet access to materials reduced inequality or has it persisted? 36:55 – Hongbin's direct experience trying to reform the gaokao—and why it failed 40:28 – How education improvement accounts for significant share of China's GDP growth 42:44 – The gap: college doesn't add measurable skills, but gaokao scores predict income 46:56 – How centralized approach affects talent allocation across fields 51:08 – The gaokao and GDP tournament for officials: similar tournament systems 54:26 – How ranking and evaluation systems shape workplace behavior and culture 58:12 – When exam culture meets U.S. education: understanding tensions around affirmative action 1:02:10 – Transparent rule-based evaluation vs. discretion and judgment: the fundamental tradeoffRecommendations: Ruixue: Piao Liang Peng You (film by Geng Jun); Stoner (a novel by John Williams) Hongbin: The Dictator's HandbookKaiser: Furious Minds: The Making of the MAGA New Right by Laura K. It's such a difficult task somehow choosing 20 exceptional albums from a vintage year of incredible extreme underground metal releases. I had a shortlist but the albums I chose could have filled a dozen 'Best of 2025' lists, so I had to be extra disciplined. Stoner in it's various forms dominated my most played but doom and sludge featured regularly also. The scene was saturated with some excellent new death metal albums and my podcast show has played a lot of tech death, however I've come up with three that, although not reinventing the wheel, once I'd finished playing their albums, I felt pretty satisfied with what the bands had acheived.I'm happy with the top 20 I've ended up with and I hope there is something in here that helps you discover a gem you may have missed. He explains why the best filters for trends come from coaches who train themselves, build think-tank staffs, and test ideas before pushing them onto athletes.Coach Stoner dives into the evolution of coaching conversations across an athlete's career, the dangers of confusing exposure with knowledge, and why philosophies should deepen over time—not be discarded for the next shiny idea. He also touches on athlete wellness, managing burnout, keeping nutrition simple, and recognizing when athletes are approaching a breaking point. The episode expands into leadership and growth: managing staff, creating loyalty through authenticity, leading away from the floor, navigating coaching changes, and learning to live comfortably in uncomfortable situations. Coach Stoner speaks candidly about introversion in an extroverted profession, owning mistakes publicly, carrying the unseen weight of leadership, and translating complex information into messages athletes can actually use. This is a conversation for coaches, athletes, and leaders who value substance over rhetoric, continuous growth, and doing the work long after the hype fades.https://youtube.com/@platesandpancakes4593https://instagram.com/voodoo4power?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=https://voodoo4ranch.com/To possibly be a guest or support the show email Voodoo4ranch@gmail.comhttps://www.paypal.com/paypalme/voodoo4ranch

This Christmas Eve, Love Murder takes a break from the darkest cases for a festive tour of holiday crimes gone spectacularly wrong—from snowman hit-and-runs and chimney burglars to rogue Santas, porch-pirate revenge, a Christmas parade police chase, and a man who spread holiday cheer by handing out free weed at Buffalo Wild Wings. One death, a lot of instant karma, and proof that even the holidays can get weird.Sources:https://www.cbsnews.com/news/petersburg-kentucky-vandals-try-to-plow-down-giant-snowman-hit-tree-stump/https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jesse-berube-criminal-santa-stuck-chimney-during-burglary-attempt-police/https://www.columbian.com/news/2010/feb/23/man-who-got-stuck-in-chimney-is-charged/https://abcnews.go.com/US/ChristmasCountdown/story?id=4016199&page=1https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bank-robber-tosses-cash-in-the-air-saying-merry-christmas/https://www.cbsnews.com/news/man-fakes-heart-attack-so-friend-can-steal-toys-at-florida-wal-mart/https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/pennsylvania-man-dupes-christmas-package-thieves-with-boxes-filled-with-cat-poop/https://www.wistv.com/story/5767894/bond-set-for-driver-in-anderson-christmas-parade-charged-with-dui/https://abc13.com/deer-poacher-ordered-to-repeatedly-watch-bambi/4917544/https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/man-claiming-to-be-santa-claus-arrested-for/1994982/This Week's Episode Brought To You By:Mint Mobile - Mobile wireless for just $15/mo - http://mintmobile.com/lovemurderShopify - $1 per month trial - http://shopify.com/lovemurderHers - Personalized, affordable plans for weight loss, hair, and anxiety - forhers.com/LOVEMURDERSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Marc and Kim dive into Trump's executive order reclassifying marijuana from a Schedule 1 to Schedule 3 drug, sparking mixed reactions. They debate medical use versus moral messaging, question whether the move promotes more drug use among youth, and point out the booming dispensary business. Marc warns that today's pot is far stronger than decades ago, shares a personal fentanyl story from an ambulance ride, and fields listener texts comparing marijuana to bourbon in a spirited, funny, and skeptical back-and-forth. #Trump #Marijuana #MedicalMarijuana #DrugPolicy #THC #StLouisTalk #MarkCoxShow #PoliticsAndCulture

Where are you listening from?Holiday tables can be loud and the myths about cannabis are often louder. We wanted to arm you with clarity, compassion, and receipts. So we take on four of the most persistent stereotypes: the “lazy stoner,” the forgetful lightweight, the gateway narrative, and the idea that cannabis users are unhealthy or addicted by default. Using current research, historical context, and stories from our own kitchen, we separate temporary effects from enduring traits and show how intention, dosing, and education change everything. If you're heading into family conversations, we've got your talking points and your calm. Bring curiosity, share evidence, and cook with care. Subscribe for more chef-tested edible recipes, culture deep dives, and science you can trust, and leave a review to tell us which myth you're ready to retire next.Join the waitlist at JoinBiteMe.com/challenge - Music by Alexander BluSupport the show Visit the website for full show notes, free dosing calculator, recipes and more.
Gunnar grew up in what looked like the perfect family - until addiction slowly unraveled everything. After his parents fell deeper into their own substance use, his mother disappeared without a word, leaving Gunnar to navigate a childhood suddenly marked by instability and pain.By his teens, he turned to meth and heroin, beginning a long cycle of drug court, jail stays, and surviving on the streets of downtown San Diego. But Gunnar's story didn't end there. Through grit, recovery, and a community that believed in him, he rebuilt his life from the ground up.Now three years sober, Gunnar has graduated college and applied to graduate school with a mission: to advocate for the homeless community he once belonged to and push for real policy change. This episode is a powerful testament to resilience, redemption, and the impact of turning lived experience into purpose.DM me on InstagramMessage me on FacebookListen AD FREE & workout with me on Patreon Connect with me on TikTokEmail me chasingheroine@gmail.comSee you next week!

When 21-year old college dropout Christopher Boyce got a job as a clerk at the TRW Defense and Space Systems complex in Redondo Beach, he was given access to some of the country's biggest government secrets. And under a Robin Hood-like ethos, he and his childhood pal Andrew Daulton Lee began sharing those secrets with the Soviet Union. Their story lived on in the 1985 film “The Falcon and the Snowman,” but their friendship had a much shorter shelf life.
It's heating up on Loner and Stoner! Fresh off Tuddle's fiery BTLS appearance, Colton's got something to say — but was Tuddle really being completely truthful about what went down at Biketoberfest? We break it all down, play a wild clip of a door-to-door salesman who lets something slip, and wrap things up with a hilarious Theo Von moment that somehow turns into a debate about who we're rooting for in the World Series.Tune in for laughs, hot takes, and a little chaos — just another day with Loner and Stoner.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
