Welcome back ATO Family Today we bring you a story from a retired servant that served over three decades in Los Angeles County. Jeff Wenninger grew up in Kent Ohio and was raised in a unique blended family during a time in this country that family diversity was rare. Jeff realized that his natural physical prowess led him to dominate hockey and set him on a path to learning a new type of resiliency and leadership style. He hired on with the LA County Sheriffs office and worked there until he joined the historic Los Angeles Police Department where he served thirty years and retired as a Lt. This will tell his story of how he grew into a natural leader and developed a style that garnered the attention of the command staff to trust him in leading high profile units. Jeff took over the RAMPART CRASH Unit after the scandal that rocked the Department and the police profession from the late 90s to the early 2000s. This event has been glamorized in tv and film and spurred movies like Training Day and the hit show, the Shield. Today Jeff is the founder and CEO of Law Enforcement Consultants LLC and has a mission to assist department and assist agencies to be the best organization they can be to serve. The release of this episode is timely due to the upcoming inauguration of President Donald Trump as Jeff shares his insight on the intricacies of dignitary protection in today's world with constant threats in the United States and afar. https://lawenforcementconsultants.com/ Critical Incidents: November 22nd, 1963: The assassination of President John F Kennedy in Dallas Texas. Send us a textScott Johnson primarily lives in Boulder with his wife and two kids, but the family also owns a house in New Orleans, located on North Rampart Street. Over a decade ago, he played a gig and mentioned that he would have loved to learn how to play the sousaphone, as at the time he played upright and electric bass. A trumpet player and friend playing the gig with him said that he would help Johnson learn the ropes. This motivated Johnson to teach himself the instrument, and feeling comfortable playing New Orleans jazz, he gathered friends of his to form a band to play that jazz: the Rampart Street Stompers, a name that tributes his house. The band focuses on traditional New Orleans jazz from the 1920s and '30s, from Louis Armstrong to Louis Prima, and the lineup has changed slightly over the years to home in on that particular sound. The current lineup consists of Johnson as band leader, sousaphone player, and vocalist; Fred Renken on trumpet; Fred Rollenhagen on trombone; Michael Bocim on clarinet; Al Scholl on banjo and guitar; Steve Balgooyen on drums; and Corinne Johnson, Scott's daughter, as a vocalist. Other members have included Josh Schnabel on banjo and ukulele, Ellie Brown on vocals, and Justin Peterson on trumpet. Johnson calls the band a middle ground between Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Tuba Skinny, the latter of whom Johnson credits with inspiring the band in the first place. Also, stay tuned to hear responses from Al Jardine of The Beach Boys to questions about that band's time at Caribou Ranch in Nederland! A cum laude UCLA graduate, Jeffries is a professor at USC's School of Cinematic Arts where she created the first undergraduate screenwriting thesis program at an American university. THE YOUNGER GIRL, available from Mission Point Press on October 22nd! ABOUT THE YOUNGER GIRL: Based on a true crime, The Younger Girl, (Mission Point Press, October 22, 2024) a debut novel by trailblazing, award-winning writer Georgia Jeffries, combines fiction and supernatural suspense to unravel a thrilling tale of family betrayal and redemption. On March 2, 1933, Chicago tabloids trumpeted the death of 20-year-old "town belle" Aldine Younger: "HEIRESS SLAIN, MARRIED MAN HELD." The son of the mayor of Pontiac, a rich farming community south of Chicago, was convicted of manslaughter. But the dead girl's baby brother, Owen, grew up in a broken family and suspected his beloved sister's killing was orchestrated by their wealthy uncle. In 1996 Owen is an old man desperate to make peace with the tragedy of Aldine's death. His daughter, Joanna, takes her still grieving father back home to claim his share of his sister's lost inheritance. Together, they are caught in a dark labyrinth of family betrayal crossing three generations. Owen is found raving during a violent thunderstorm and now believes his daughter is his sister, Aldine, returning to him. Joanna races against time to save her father and unearths damning secrets that threaten her own life. The guilty will be exposed at the psychic bridge linking past, present and future. But at what cost? And who will survive the revelations? “True-crime stories are difficult, and far more so, when the true crime is in your own family. Georgia Jeffries's triumphant novel tells the story of her aunt Aldine Younger's killing in 1933—a violent death that has cast a long and complex shadow over the family, the community, and far beyond. Viewing these events through the lens of fiction, Jeffries deploys clear-eyed research and lucid, evocative prose to craft a novel that will haunt long after the book is closed.” —Howard Rodman, novelist/screenwriter Professor, USC School of Cinematic Arts Vice President, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Thanks for this wonderful conversation, Georgia! Sub to the PPM Patreon to support the show—help us reach our Month of Truth challenge goal of 120 new subs by Sept. 1st: patreon.com/ParaPowerMapping Counterpropaganda is a new intermittent series—this is the opening salvo. We're christening it w/ a feature of films depicting contract killers. Our impetus is the anti-hitman thesis of Linklater's new screwball Netflix noir ironically titled "Hit Man", a piece of subtle albeit messy copaganda that masquerades as lighthearted psychological thriller packed w/ meditations on identity, but which is mostly a sexy romp glorifying entrapment stings, sexing-up confidential informants, & trying to deconstruct the existence of hit men (all things Klonny is decidedly not about). The movie also possesses a mercenary streak its writers Richard & leading man Glen Powell might have thought would serve as an indictment of us & trickstery subversion, but I think it gets lost in its own sauce & genre dalliances. So yr neighborly noid is here to unpack why I disagree w/ the film's framing of (supposedly nonexistent) hitmen & law enforcement moreover, which spills into multiple parts as we dive into a number of IRL "retail" contract killer case studies to pick at the film's seams, resulting in one becoming a full-on, deep history of a little known serial contract killer named Glennon Engleman aka the Killer Driller, a sus dentist who moonlighted as a murderer-for-hire, mastermind of insurance schemes, & Black Widow keeper—and we discover that these serial contract murders, which are a little off the beaten true crime path, cohere w/ McGowan's PTK framework or more recent works like "Eye of the Chickenhawk" to a surprising degree. That investigative research arrives in Pt. II. In this ep, we discuss: The Trump ear nicking assassination attempt (foreshadowing future Counterprop I'd reckon); We cram in a litany of the noir & contract killing films & TV that Klonny's been watching or thinking about in preparation for this, including - Hit Man, The Killer, Kill List, Le Samouraï, Sicario, The Day of the Jackal, The Parallax View, JFK, Rampart, The Shield,... etc. We conduct a perfunctory SUS CHECK on Linklater, which is primarily made up of examining his role in furthering Alex Jones's platform—the Bill Cooper, Ron Paul, & Branch Davidians-connected, fellow Austinian conspi-radio broadcaster & parapolitical research shitcoater. Which means we have to take an obligatory look at JONES'S C I A MOM & POPS, including his sus, implants-designing dentist of a father David Jones, who'd affix microphonic crowns on Agency teeth's (foreshadowing Glennon Engleman in Pt. II, nice) & may have been an operative in his own right... Even provided covert financial support to CA death squads... And Carol Hamman, Alex's Ma, who would help to secure housing accommodations for East German defectors in Texas in the '80s... And then there's Alex's Uncle Bill, who was a heli pilot in 'Nam, conducted Black Ops missions, & likely was involved in the Phoenix Program's extrajudicial assassinations (possibly a Hit Man connection only 2 degrees from Linklater). The other primary focus of our brief SUS CHECK: THE CHURCH OF THE SUBGENIUS The irony cult cum performance art troupe cum zine collective cum PA TV show cum ARG that Richard Linklater is affiliated with, learning how he's has championed said highly conceptual oddball project in the doc JR "Bob" Dobbs & the Church of the SubGenius. We get into how these exemplars of Austin high weirdness had an indelible impact on Linklater's oeuvre, inspiring his first film Slacker via their gnostic/sexual elemental force dubbed SLACK. We explore how this not-quite-fake cult started by Austin outsiders Ivan Stengs & Philo Drummond, which preaches a sexual & recreational gospel that is also rooted in a voracious syncretizing of basically every conspiracy theory known to man, might just have become a second Scientology if its founders had been a little more zealous. I'm joined by Luke Marshall (@thingobserver) of Things Observed podcast to examine this thorny issue. We attempt to examine the topic in general terms through the case of 6ix9ine's words and deeds, and then Luke walks us through the case of Tupac and the possibility of infiltrating rap 'for good', and various COINTELPRO-style tactics used against him. Along the way, we discuss police corruption, whether Death Row Records was an intelligence front, Suge Knight's curious career, LAPD and Rampart scandals, possible Mossad involvement, and many related topics. We also discuss Wu Tang Clan manager Michael Caruso's snitching, strange things occurring with ODB, and the interesting case of 50 Cent's possible role in related activities. episode art by Robert Voyvodich @r.voy__ Things Observed podcast: https://rss.com/podcasts/thingsobserved/ Songs: Rap Snitch Knishes by MF Doom Deep Cover by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg Tell Tell Tell by Project Pat Don't Snitch by Mac Dre Ruff Ryders Anthem by DMX
