A surprise guest appearance gets ruined by Simon. Instead they talk about achievement orientation and finding out what people think of you. Some other details from the episode: Some blow back from last week's episode from Simon's frolleagues, Finn's girlfriend Sophie (and brownies), the oddness of the phrase "fuck me sideways" and its mechanics, Lee's lovely lovely week of achievement orientation, useful meetings, achievement orientation in general, how well-read Bob is, Mr Product and Ms Process, a report about three types of men in relationships that Lee doesn't want to talk about, the University that cannot be named and locking down computers, Lee's wiggly wiggly picture, Lee's bid success, people change while our perceptions of them don't change, being confronted by knowing what people think of you, the process of 'start, stop, continue', being less of a dick for 15 minutes, the marshamallow test for being a pillock, a lovely friend of Simon's, being nice, and something Lee likes about Simon.--- Related links (and necessary corrections):This might be the report that Lee read about types of men in heterosexual relationships: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0277953623005002Marshmallow test video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi8jqjo8sV8Get in touch with Lee and Simon at info@midlifing.net. ---The Midlifing logo is adapted from an original image by H.L.I.T: https://www.flickr.com/photos/29311691@N05/8571921679 (CC BY 2.0)

Strange Wolves podcast October 2018. In an act of Spannungsbogen, like leaving your shorts on when your balls is hot, The Strange Wolves Podcast left us two months between episodes, but now it's finally here. Vinny, John, Marcus and Tom are back to discuss an eclectic mix of topics. For a podcast nominally about mixed martial arts, this month's episode covers a lot of topics including: conspiracy theories, cult membership, Dune and who the hell knows what else. The top 3 (recent) conspiracy theories in MMA include some unexpected breaking news about Mighty Mouse and Ben Askren. John explains flat-earth theory, and how Nasa patrols the ice wall surrounding the disc-shaped planet, and Vinny counters with a conspiracy theory about conspiracy theories. There's also something in there about a secret, super-antibiotic. Honestly, it was kind of hard to follow. After introducing themselves to the listeners, a good half hour in, the guys get around to discussing the Khabib - McGregor fight. Marcus has his media blackout ruined by an unruly relative. On the fight itself, did McGregor get his game plan wrong? Vinny and Marcus have some advice for John on how to start a successful cult. This month's movie review is the seminal Irish martial arts movie 'Fatal Deviation', very much one of a kind, featuring as it does a 35 year old reform school student taking on gangsters in Trim. Who, if any, of the podcast team consider themselves jiu-jitsu players and why (not)? Is BJJ starting to have some of the trappings of traditional martial arts? How did BJ Penn ear his name?! There's some brief discussion of Mister Men characters, for some reason, and the remake of 'The King and I', for equally opaque reasons. Things finally fizzle out with one of one of John's weaker jokes, and a catchphrase that we can only hope does not catch on.
