Nick Taylor built The Nick Taylor Horror Show by asking filmmakers how they actually got their movies made — an unofficial film school he later put to use directing his own feature. Mike talks with Taylor about turning that same curiosity on Steve Johnson, the special makeup effects legend behind Slimer, the Fright Night vampires, and the Howling werewolves, and a childhood hero whose success validated Taylor's own outsider love of monsters.Taylor traces the six-year odyssey of Rubberhead: The Life & Monsters of Steve Johnson, from meeting Johnson at Monsterpalooza through the funding struggles of an unapologetically niche passion project. He discusses narrowing the film's circle of interview subjects to people who truly knew Johnson — including John Landis and Linnea Quigley — over chasing bigger names, and how editor Joe Krings kept the project's fan enthusiasm in check. The conversation closes with Rubberhead's Fantasia Festival world premiere and where to catch it. We always talk about comic books getting turned into movies, but what happens when the traffic moves backward? In this special One Shot episode of Moving Panels, host Laramy Wells is joined by co-hosts Tim Williams, Nicholas Pepin, and Gerry D. to dive deep into the massive, chaotic, and awesome world of comic books directly inspired by cinema and television. From canonical continuation series that picked up where canceled TV shows left off to insane crossover events Hollywood could never afford, we break down how the comic medium expands our favorite screen universes. What we're unpacking tonight:The Official Continuations: Joss Whedon's massive, budget-free Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 and the incredible DC Universe expansions in Smallville Season 11 (including Clark becoming a Green Lantern and his tactical showdown with Batman!).The McClane Files: A deep dive into John McClane's comic history, featuring the prequel series Die Hard: Year One and Laramy's recent read, A Million Ways to Die Hard. The Slashers & Sci-Fi Icons: How Ash Williams (Army of Darkness/The Evil Dead) became a comic book staple, the iconic Dark Horse Alien vs. Predator runs, and the massive Ghostbusters and Star Trek comic universes. The 80s Cartoon Toy Box: The deep-cut lore of Transformers, G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., Voltron, ThunderCats, Dino-Riders, Bravestarr, Visionaries, SilverHawks, and Inhumanoids.⚠️ ANNOUNCEMENT: We hit a bit of a snag behind the scenes tonight. At one point during the recording, Laramy suffered a massive computer glitch. We kept the tapes rolling anyway, and the guys carried the torch to the finish line. We're curious to see if the audience can actually catch exactly when Laramy is no longer a part of the episode!

To this day - twenty-two years later - you can still walk into a room anywhere in the civilized world and shout “Who ya gonna call?” and get an emphatic hollaback of “GHOSTBUSTERS!” Is there more that needs to be said? Yes, there is. About three hours worth if you're Paul, Javi, and the preternatural Producer Brad! For a franchise that has been rehashed, rebooted, re-animated, and spun-off so many times, the original still holds the power to provoke laughter, surprise, wonder, and, occasionally, a low grumble of “dude, that Venkman's kind of a lech." It was the eighties, and if you were an alum of SNL, times were good, especially for Dan Aykroyd, who, along with Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman turned his longtime obsession with the the paranormal into a humongously budgeted comedic spectacle on the scale of the epic blockbusters of Lucas and Spielberg. Anchored by a master class in snark presented by Bill Murray, with Ramis, Aykroyd, and everyman extraordinaire Ernie Hudson rounding out the titular team, the supernaturally amazing cast includes Sigourney “The Most Exhalted Queen of the Universe” Weaver, Annie “the unsung MVP of the Ghostbusters” Potts, and the ever lovable Rick Moranis as the world's most indefatigable accountant. Let's face it folks, there's two epochs in history, before “he slimed me” and after “he slimed me," and the Multiplex Overthruster crew has seen them both. So dust off your Tobin's Spirit Guide, power up your PK meter, and bust out the neutrona wands, because many Zuuls and Shubs are about to find out what it's like to be roasted on the depths of the Sloar, and there's only one call to make - GHOSTBUSTERS!Show Notes:US Theatrical release date: June 8, 1984US Weekend Box Office June 8, 1984US 1984 Top Grossing MoviesAFI Catalog Entry for GhostbustersRoger Ebert's Ghostbusters ReviewNYT/Janet Maslin Ghostbuster ReviewA look at Dan Akroyd's original script for ‘Ghostbusters'Dan Aykroyd Explains Spooky Way He Came Up With Original 'Ghostbusters' IdeaTeenage Sigourney Weaver Seen Enjoying Beatles' Hollywood Bowl Concert in ‘Eight Days a Week' DocCasper's creators aren't so friendly - UPI ArchivesPatrick NagelTheme music by Mike McGuillAdditional voicework by Russell BentleySummer of '84 voiced by Colby ElliottFollow us!InstagramBlueskyemail: Multiplexoverthruster@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. This week on The Kibbe & Friends Show, the guys kick things off by discussing the growing rumors that Dodge could return to NASCAR competition in 2027. With new reports suggesting progress on both the race car and engine program, Rob, Corndog, and Bernie debate what Dodge's return could look like, how manufacturer-supported engines compare to the competition, and whether NASCAR has become too standardized compared to the glory days of stock car racing. Next up is another hilarious edition of the Automotive Celebrity Birthday Game, featuring movie and television trivia from Ghostbusters, Risky Business, Apollo 13, Friends, Herbie: Fully Loaded, and more before Bernie delivers this week's news, including Ford's efforts to improve quality control, a wild Costco tequila sampling story, and a few Fourth of July laughs courtesy of National Parts Depot. Finally, the crew heads back to Hazzard County for Season 2, Episode 2: "Gold Fever." They revisit the fake gold bar scheme, Boss Hogg's latest bad investment, the unforgettable mobile dentist, and one of the early episodes that truly established the fun, action-packed formula that made The Dukes of Hazzard a television classic. Along the way they break down Al Wyatt's incredible stunt driving, General Lee trivia, production bloopers, and the behind-the-scenes details that only lifelong Dukes fans tend to notice. Like the man says, better late than never — here's part two of Chris' amazing conversation with John Lambert! As you heard in the first episode, Lambert has an encyclopedic memory of his time coming over to work on Boss Films' first few titles, including the making of Ghostbusters. The Tim Conway Jr. Show Hour 3 (6.25) This hour is stacked. We open with the ultimate '80s plot twist — the "Ghostbusters" theme and Huey Lewis's "I Want a New Drug" are basically the same song, and the lawsuit saga behind it is wilder than the mash-up. Then we remix the Springfield dog-and-cat meme as the Supreme Court clears the way for Trump to end protected status for hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Syrian immigrants — a ruling that could ripple to 1.3 million people. Next, the wedding of the year: a street-closure permit around Madison Square Garden has Swifties convinced Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are tying the knot July 3 — though nobody's confirming a thing. Dolly Parton, meanwhile, just opened her trucker-friendly Tennessean Travel Stop and threw down the gauntlet at Buc-ee's with one perfect one-liner ("I couldn't leave it to beavers"). And the video everyone's sharing: a great white shark stalking two paddleboarders off Santa Barbara — who, plot twist, went out looking for it. Plus a fired-up listener letter from Apple Valley. Hit play. plot twist, mash-up, the truth about, lawsuit saga, remix, ripple effect, secret, wedding of the year, tying the knot, Swifties, convinced, threw down the gauntlet, declares war, perfect one-liner, caught on camera, stalked, the video everyone's sharing, going viral, you won't believe, jaw-dropping, fired up, exposed, ultimate, wild, no one's talking about, breaking, bombshell, iconic, era, receipts. The Hype Block: The hosts rip into Snapchat's new $2,300 glasses (a chunky, $3 billion boat anchor that makes a good-looking CEO completely unfuckable). Meanwhile, Anthropic's CEO is treating his LLM like a "superweapon" that practically needs a gun license just to drive up valuation. Who'd You Rather?: Emi tries to take home three startups (Sloneek, HeyMilo, and Orbio) for an HR foursome. The New Indoor Malls: Oracle is slashing 21,000 jobs to build data centers, and Google is training blue-collar workers for $166 a pop. Chad serves a history lesson: we are overbuilding data centers just like 1980s indoor malls. Ghostbusters in NY: New York is passing a bill to fine companies $2,500 for posting fake "ghost jobs" used for resume harvesting. Emi wants more guidance; Chad says stop making excuses. Tune in, skip the scams, and Go Portugal!

Rigor Mortis (2013), When Evil Lurks (2023), and Vicious (2025) Pretty much from the very beginning of horror cinema—or cinema in general—supernatural horror has been part of the storytelling tradition. Granted, many of those early films were adaptations of famous works of literature dealing with ghosts, vampires, and other unworldly creatures, but more than a century later, the supernatural remains a huge gateway for creative filmmakers to walk through in order to create something interesting, and sometimes something genuinely new. Many modern supernatural horror films deal with grief and how we cope with it. Some might call it cathartic, while in other films, it's just downright mean! In the three movies we discuss in this episode, you'll get a taste of all of that—and more. A couple of these films hit especially hard and will leave an impact on you days after the credits roll. You'll either be running to tell your closest friends that they absolutely need to watch them, or you won't say a word for fear that someone might ask, "Is everything okay at home?" But we think that films that can hit that hard deserve to be applauded. So, if you're game, take that next step- and hit play. Movies mentioned in this episode: The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015), The Boxer's Omen (1983), A Chinese Ghost Story (1987), The Dark and the Wicked (2020), Dream Home (2010), Errementari (2017), Exhuma (2024), The Exorcist (1973), Friday the 13th (1980), Ghostbusters (1984), The Golem (1915-1920), The Grudge (2002), Halloween (1978), Häxan (1922), Hellraiser (1987), Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), Hereditary (2018), Hostel (2005), House of the Devil (1897), Last House on the Left (1972), Killer Party (1986), Maniac (1980), Midsommar (2019), Mockingbird (2016), The Monster (2016), Mr. Vampire (1985), My Bloody Valentine (1981), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Nosferatu (1922), The Prowler (1981), Psycho (1960), Rigor Mortis (2013), Scream 7 (2026), The Strangers (2008), The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018), Terrified (2017), Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), The Uninvited (1944), Vicious (2025), When Evil Lurks (2023)

Welcome to Sounds of Halloween Part 2: Halloween Music. What makes a song feel like Halloween? Is it monsters and ghosts in the lyrics, creepy sound effects, or something deeper hidden within the music itself? In this episode, we explore the fascinating history of Halloween music and the sounds that have become part of the season. From novelty classics like Monster Mash and Ghostbusters to the enduring popularity of Thriller, we look at how certain songs became Halloween traditions even when they were never written specifically for the holiday. We'll also dive into the legend of the "Devil's Interval," the supernatural folklore surrounding blues music, the rise of monster-themed novelty records in the 1950s and 1960s, and the horror movie soundtracks that forever changed the way we hear fear. Along the way, we'll uncover why certain notes, instruments, and musical techniques create feelings of suspense, mystery, and unease. Whether you're building the perfect Halloween playlist, decorating for the season, or simply curious about why some sounds make your skin crawl, this episode explores the ever-changing soundtrack of Halloween. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Everything old is new again, especially at this week's box office. The Wayans Brothers' nostalgia-driven sequel Scary Movie opened to a franchise best of $55 million. Unfortunately for Masters of the Universe, the 80s-tv show inspired live action adaptation barely scraped more than $29 million - a true bust for a film that cost more than $170 million to make. Horror darlings Obsession and Backrooms are still ruling the roost at theaters, both having crossed over the $200 million threshold this past weekend. Here's the news you didn't know you wanted, Hugh Jackman is set to star in a Ridley Scott-directed adaptation of the truly classic novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Adolescence writer Jack Thorne will pen the script that stars Jackman as the pirate Long John Silver himself. The original novel was published in 1883 and has been adapted many times. The project is ready to be bid on by all studios. Netflix has announced an official title and revealed a logo for an upcoming Ghostbusters animated series which will officially be titled Ghostbusters: Nightshift. The series is expected to debut sometime in 2027. The upcoming John Wick spin off series currently titled Caine has added Bill Nighy, Dacre Montgomery, and Mason Thames to the cast. The series is being directed by martial arts master Donnie Yen and is currently in production in Budapest and Hong Kong. Netflix has revealed a first look at Scooby Doo from the upcoming live action Scooby Doo series which will premiere sometime in 2027. A short teaser was also released online to make the reveal. This will be the first time the iconic character will be played by an actual dog. Deadline has reported that Jason Momoa is departing PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures' film adaptation of Helldivers, based on Arrowhead Game Studios' video game franchise, from director Justin Lin. The reason for his departure is unknown.
