Is the practitioner supplement market dead? Or is it just evolving into something completely unrecognizable? In this video, I break down why the traditional "insulated fortress" of practitioner dietary supplements (which accounts for around 9% of the total U.S. supplement industry) has officially been dismantled. With the death of information asymmetry, the rise of virtual dispensing systems like Fullscript, and precision AI-driven personalized manufacturing, a brand-new strategic playbook is required to win. I'll analyze the battle between legacy supplement giants (defending clinical prestige) and newcomers inverting the funnel through "Reverse-Channel Entry." Discover why the future of health optimization belongs entirely to data interoperability...bridging wearables, lab diagnostics, and virtual prescription pads. If you are a practitioner, brand owner, or health-tech founder, this is the blueprint for how supplements are being manufactured, sold, marketed, and prescribed.

In this episode, I sat down with Deputy Dean Veronica Hauad of the University of Chicago to explore what the university calls the “life of the mind” — and what that truly means for applicants. If you've ever wondered how one of the most intellectually rigorous universities in the country evaluates students, this conversation pulls back the curtain. From the Core Curriculum to the famously creative essay prompts, Deputy Dean Hauad shares exactly what UChicago looks for — and why intellectual curiosity matters more than a résumé packed with achievements. What You'll Learn in This EpisodeThe Core Curriculum & Academic IdentityWhy UChicago remains deeply committed to a classic liberal arts foundation. Deputy Dean Hauad explains the eight subject areas every student completes — and how this shared academic experience shapes classroom conversations and campus culture. What “Fit” Actually MeansUChicago isn't looking for students who can simply handle the rigor — they're looking for students who enjoy dissecting ideas. Learn how the admissions team evaluates whether an applicant will thrive in an environment built around inquiry and debate. The Famous Supplemental EssaysWhy UChicago's unconventional essay prompts are so important — and why they reveal “how you think,” not just what you've accomplished. This is where applicants truly differentiate themselves. The “No Harm” Test-Optional PolicyA clear explanation of UChicago's approach to standardized testing. If a score doesn't strengthen an application, it won't be used. Context — including a student's high school profile — matters more than headline averages.Letters of Recommendation That Stand OutWhy specific classroom anecdotes carry more weight than glowing adjectives. Deputy Dean Hauad explains what makes a recommendation memorable.Financial Aid DemystifiedAn inside look at UChicago's “No Loan” policy and 100% need-met commitment. Families are encouraged to use Net Price Calculators early to understand affordability and reduce uncertainty.Top Takeaways for Families• Designate “Admissions Time.” Choose one set time per week to discuss college tasks and protect the rest of senior year for enjoying family time.• Don't Rush the Supplement. School-specific essays often reveal “fit” more clearly than the personal statement.• Stay True to Yourself. Instead of asking, “What does the college want?” ask, “What genuinely excites me?” The right colleges are looking for students who lean into their authentic intellectual interests. If you're navigating highly selective admissions — or simply want to better understand how top institutions evaluate applicants — this episode offers clarity, candor, and practical guidance straight from the source.University of Chicago - Admissions & Aid------------------------------------

Weeks after retiring from one of the greatest professional running careers in a generation, Evan Jager found himself inside a Swedish lab testing a supplement made from broccoli sprouts. The results of those lab tests caught his attention, and before the ink was dry on his retirement letter to the sport of distance running, the Olympic silver medallist and American record holder was right back in the world of high performance.  But while he'd spent a pro career focused on running as fast as possible, this new chapter would be all about helping other athletes reach their full potential, as he became head of athlete relations for Nomio, the Swedish company behind the broccoli-powered super supplement. Today on The Shakeout Podcast, Evan joins us to talk about how a move to Sweden set the stage for an improbable post-career pivot, what the transition to life after pro running has looked like and what it was about that first experience with a shot of broccoli juice that had him diving back into the heart of high performance sport just as quickly as he'd left. Creatine has long been boxed into the weight-room world, but this episode opens the door to a much bigger conversation for trail runners and endurance athletes. Creatine is something surprisingly simple, "right within the reach of a glass," that may help athletes become stronger, faster, healthier, and more resilient. We discuss with Dr. Dan Pardi, Chief Health Officer at Qualia Life Sciences, whether this familiar supplement can support not just performance, but long-term health and better daily function. For runners who usually think about carbs, hydration, shoes, and mileage first, creatine offers a different kind of performance question: what if strength, recovery, and durability start with something small and easy? It's a practical topic for athletes who want to keep moving well, aging well, and showing up stronger on the trail. "Peptides cause cancer." It's the easiest way to scare someone off something, and a lot of people do it without ever showing you a single study. So I went and pulled the studies. In this video I walk through every peptide on the popular research peptide list that actually has direct anti-cancer evidence in the published literature. Not theory. Not mechanism guesses. Actual studies in cells, animals, and in some cases, humans. You'll see what the research says about BPC-157, GHK-Cu, Epitalon, KPV, LL-37, Thymosin Alpha-1, MOTS-c, semaglutide, tirzepatide, retatrutide, and a handful more. Some of this evidence is strong. Some is preliminary. I'm honest about both. This is not medical advice and I'm not telling you peptides cure cancer. That's not what the data says and that's not what I'm claiming. What I am saying is that the next time someone hits you with a 60 second clip telling you peptides cause cancer, you'll have something more substantial to weigh it against. All study links below.

This episode of Wisdom of the Body, "Is Your Supplement Stack Actually Helping You?", explores the growing confusion around supplements, herbal medicine, and modern wellness culture. Author and Ayurvedic practitioner Heather Grzych explains why more supplements do not always lead to better health, unpacking the difference between targeted herbal support and compulsive accumulation, the Ayurvedic concept of agni (digestive and processing capacity), and why simplification is often more supportive than constant optimization. Using personal stories, practical examples, and character references, she examines how wellness culture can encourage people to override their body's signals in pursuit of an ideal. You'll also learn how Ayurveda approaches herbs like Ashwagandha through individualized assessment, cleansing, and rejuvenation rather than one-size-fits-all solutions. This episode offers a more thoughtful framework for choosing the best herbs and supplements for stress, energy, inflammation, nervous system support, and overall wellness—while helping you understand when the body may actually need less input, less fragmentation, and more clarity.   Heather Grzych, ADLC is an American author and teacher of Ayurvedic medicine who was formerly the president of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association and the head of product development for a multi-billion-dollar health insurance company. Heather's first book, The Ayurvedic Guide to Fertility, has sold thousands of copies worldwide, and her writing has been featured in Sports Illustrated, Yoga Journal, and the Sunday Independent. What if the reason you're not getting anything done has nothing to do with laziness, lack of discipline, or poor time management? Brain fog is a biological response to overwhelm, and once you understand what is driving it, clearing it becomes a matter of strategy rather than willpower. On Salad with a Side of Fries, host Jenn Trepeck delivers one of her most personal and practical episodes yet, tracing her own experience of brain fog through months of compounding stress and sharing every tool that helped her climb back out. From targeted nutritional supplements like magnesium, ashwagandha, and activated B vitamins, to the biochemical power of novelty, strength training, and social connection, Jenn lays out a morning, midday, and evening framework built around activation, adaptation, and restoration. This is not a surface-level conversation about productivity hacks. This is the science of resilience building applied to real life, with real results. What You Will Learn in This Episode:✅ Why brain fog is not a discipline problem but a biological response to layered overwhelm, and how the gut-brain connection, postbiotics, and targeted antioxidants work together beneath the surface to restore cognitive function and get your brain fully back online.✅ How movement goes far beyond the gym: why changing your walk route, adding intervals, doing squats before a meeting, and keeping light weights nearby are all proven strategies for increasing blood flow and boosting brain energy throughout the day.✅ Why novelty is one of the most powerful and underused tools for mental clarity, and how activities that demand your full attention, from learning a new language to trying a completely unfamiliar experience, actively protect against cognitive decline and sharpen neural connections.✅ How the foods you eat and the ones you avoid directly shape your brain health, why dark leafy greens, blueberries, and beans support memory and slow cognitive decline, and why ultra-processed foods are directly linked to dementia, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast, hosted by Jenn Trepeck, explores real-life wellness and weight-loss topics, debunking myths, misinformation, and flawed science surrounding nutrition and the food industry.
