Why Supplement Audit Apps Can Be Dangerous (Overlap, Dosing & Drug Interactions Explained)

Supplement audit and tracking apps like Subtract AI, Sepco, and other supplement ranking tools are everywhere right now — but are they actually helping your health… or giving you false confidence?   In this episode, I break down the 3 major flaws with supplement auditing apps that most people (and even doctors) overlook — especially if you're dealing with fat loss resistance, hormone imbalance, thyroid issues, HRT, or birth control.   You'll learn: • Why these apps often miss dangerous drug–supplement interactions • How they ignore your diet, nutrient intake, and deficiencies • Why they don't account for dosing, form, or timing (which completely changes how supplements work) • How they oversimplify complex hormonal health • Why your "high score" may mean absolutely nothing • When supplement apps CAN be useful vs when they become harmful • Why supplements must be personalized to your labs, diet, stress, and hormones   If you're taking a large supplement stack, using HRT or thyroid meds, or trying to lose stubborn fat — this is a MUST-listen before trusting any supplement-tracking app.

AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich is joined by Dr. Isaac Jumper, assistant professor and ambulatory clinician at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Jumper was the first author on a paper published in the Bovine Practitioner online first edition. This peer-reviewed journal published by AABP is open access. The target audience for the journal is the practicing cattle veterinarian and there are no publication fees for submissions. Find the journal at this link.  The objective of this paper was to study the temporal consumption patterns of chlortetracycline (CTC)-medicated mineral supplement offered free choice to beef cows on pasture and test the effect of cow age on CTC-medicated mineral supplement intake. The study involved an adaptation period to acclimate cows to the SmartFeed units and a trial period to test the study objectives. During the 27-day adaptation period, 76% of cattle consumed any amount of the diet during the day and the average total intake was just under 8 kg per cow or 0.3 kg per day. During the 46-day trial period, 27% of cows across all pasture groups consumed any amount of CTC-medicated mineral with an average amount consumed of just under 41 grams per day. The average dose of CTC consumed was 0.53 mg/kg per day which is less than the labeled dose of 1.1 mg/kg. The authors identified variability between cows in consumption of CTC-medicated mineral. The mean number of consumption days was 12.5, the number of consecutive days the average cow visited the feeder was 1.6 and the average number of days between visits was 6 days. We discuss the implications for control of anaplasmosis with these results. The authors identified that in this study, feeding CTC-medicated mineral did not ensure that cows on free-choice pasture-based feeding programs did not consume the label dose of CTC. As the age of the cow increased, the frequency of visits decreased, and the total consumption of CTC-medicated mineral declined.  Veterinarians who are utilizing CTC for control of anaplasmosis should be familiar with FDA regulations on the Veterinary Feed Directive, including dosing, the difference between hand-fed labels and free-choice administration, and the prohibition of extralabel drug use for medically important antimicrobials administered in feed.  A pilot study investigating consumption patterns of chlortetracycline-medicated mineral supplement offered free choice to beef cows on pasture. Can science really help us live longer - and feel better while we age? In this episode, longevity expert Kayla Barnes-Lentz joins Jonathan and Dr Federica Amati to explore how daily behaviours, emerging science, and personalised data may shape our health span. Many people believe longevity requires extreme routines or expensive treatments, but new evidence suggests simple habits may have a powerful impact. This conversation asks one central question: how can we age well while still enjoying life? Together, Kayla, Jonathan and Federica explore what longevity science currently understands… and what it still doesn't. Kayla shares her personal journey from chronic fatigue and brain fog to measurable improvements after changing her diet, sleep routine and lifestyle. The discussion covers nutrition, sleep, oral health, fasting, environmental toxins, supplements, wearable tracking, personalised lab testing, and why women may need different guidance based on physiology and life stage. For listeners wanting practical steps, this episode includes guidance on five foundational habits such as consistent sleep timing, reducing late-evening eating, flossing and dental check-ins, supporting your gut and oral microbiome, and increasing plant diversity in meals.  As science continues to uncover how and why we age, what small behaviour could you change today that your future self may thank you for? Are multivitamins bad for you? How could that be? In this video, I'll share the truth about the multivitamin scam. Find out about the vitamins you should never take, supplements that don't work, and the harmful ingredients in your supplements. 0:00 Introduction: Multivitamins truth0:19 Harmful ingredients in supplements 1:45 Synthetic vs. natural vitamins 3:38 Do multivitamins really work?9:32 Natural vitamins and minerals11:17 Fake vitamins exposed! Many multivitamins are made with the cheapest, synthetic ingredients which could be doing more harm than good. The first ingredient in many multivitamins is often calcium carbonate, which is limestone! The first ingredient usually makes up the majority of the product. Magnesium oxide, another common ingredient, is very cheap and has the lowest absorption rate compared to other forms of magnesium. The term “natural” isn't regulated, so ingredients derived from sources such as petroleum and coal tar can be labeled as natural. In nature, vitamins don't exist alone; they are combined with other nutrients and cofactors, which are often missing when you take synthetic vitamins. Biochemistry can not work without cofactors. Although there are nutrients that are difficult to obtain in sufficient amounts from food, that doesn't mean they should be replaced with synthetic multivitamins.Maltodextrin is commonly used as a filler in vitamins and minerals. It's a highly refined industrial starch, classified as a complex carbohydrate, and spikes blood sugar more than sugar. Ascorbic acid is a synthetic part of the vitamin C complex. Approximately 90% is made in China from GMO corn and sulfuric acid. Many people have a genetic issue converting cyanocobalamin, a synthetic form of B12, and folic acid, a synthetic form of B9, into their active forms. This can cause negative side effects in 40% of the population.Almost all of the popular multivitamins are owned by Big Pharma, Big Food, Big Chemical, or large investment groups. For example, Centrum Silver is owned by Pfizer, and One a Day is owned by Bayer. Nature Made is owned by the same company that sells Abilify!Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 60, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. After the devastating 2011 drought, David set out to find a grazing system that could thrive even under extreme stress. Inspired by Mr. Sabino Cortez Jr., he began experimenting with compost applications, irrigation, and concentrated grazing on just one acre. The results were remarkable—rapid manure decomposition, vigorous grass growth, and record weight gains, including a young bull that gained 600 pounds in 190 days on a single acre. The episode explores how this system transforms soil fertility through the natural activity of dung beetles, compost microbes, and mineral balance—proving that regenerative solutions can turn challenges into lasting resilience.

The sermon presents a theological and pastoral reflection on the nature of suffering, emphasizing that not all suffering stems from divine judgment, moral failure, or spiritual warfare. Drawing from Ecclesiastes and other biblical texts, it argues that suffering often results from three impersonal realities: natural disasters, accidents, and the inevitable physical entropy of aging. The preacher illustrates how events like avalanches, mudslides, lightning strikes, and structural collapses occur without regard to moral worth, underscoring that some tragedies are simply the consequence of natural laws and human fallibility. Similarly, accidents—such as falls, vehicle collisions, or workplace incidents—happen to the righteous and wicked alike, often due to human error or chance. The sermon concludes by affirming that aging and bodily decay are universal, governed by the second law of thermodynamics, and that the body's gradual decline is not a sign of divine abandonment but a reminder of human frailty. Ultimately, the message calls for humility, gratitude, and a reorientation toward worship, urging believers to recognize God's sovereignty even in the midst of inexplicable suffering.

Exercise and L-BAIBA Supplement Boost Muscle and Bone Health in Aging Mice

BUFFALO, NY — November 11, 2025 — A new #research paper was #published in Volume 17, Issue 10 of Aging-US on October 1, 2025, titled “L-β-aminoisobutyric acid (L-BAIBA) in combination with voluntary wheel running exercise enhances musculoskeletal properties in middle-age male mice.” In this study led by first author Julian A. Vallejo and corresponding author Michael J. Wacker from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, researchers investigated how L-β-aminoisobutyric acid (L-BAIBA), a natural compound released during exercise, works together with regular physical activity to improve muscle and bone health in middle-aged male mice. The findings may support new strategies to maintain musculoskeletal health in aging populations, especially those at risk for mobility loss or osteoporosis. Muscle and bone strength naturally decline with age, increasing the risk of falls, fractures, and reduced quality of life. While exercise remains the most effective way to counteract this deterioration, it is often difficult for older individuals to maintain sufficient activity levels to see results. L-BAIBA, a molecule naturally produced during physical activity, is known to promote energy metabolism and support muscle and bone cells. This study explored its potential to work in synergy with endurance exercise to maximize health benefits in aging bodies. Researchers studied 12-month-old male mice that were split into different groups. Some remained sedentary, while others exercised freely on running wheels. Half of each group received daily L-BAIBA supplementation. After three months, the mice that received both the supplement and exercise showed greater improvements than those receiving either one alone. The soleus, a slow-twitch muscle essential for endurance and balance, grew larger and stronger only in the combined treatment group. These muscles also shifted to a more fatigue-resistant fiber type and had a larger number of oxidative fibers. “To investigate this hypothesis, we subjected 12-month-old (as a model of middle-age) male C57BL6 mice to voluntary wheel running (VWR) with L-BAIBA (100mg/kg/day) (VWR+L-BAIBA), VWR alone, L-BAIBA alone, or none (CTRL) for three months.” The study also showed significant improvements in bone health. Mice that received both exercise and L-BAIBA developed thicker and denser trabecular bone, along with reduced fat levels in the bone marrow, indicators of stronger, healthier bones. These changes were not observed in the groups that only exercised or only received L-BAIBA. Although the compound caused minor changes in heart electrical activity, it did not affect heart size or overall function, suggesting it is safe in this setting. These findings suggest that L-BAIBA may enhance the benefits of physical activity by supporting muscle strength and bone structure, particularly in slow-twitch muscle fibers. This combination could serve as a therapeutic strategy to help older adults, including those unable to engage in regular exercise, maintain musculoskeletal health. As the aging population grows, there is a growing need for solutions that support muscle and bone health without requiring strenuous activity. This research highlights the potential of natural, exercise-related molecules like L-BAIBA to help maintain mobility and strength throughout aging. What Your GP Doesn’t Tell You
Mistletoe Injections - Could these be a valuable supplement to standard oncological care?

Dr Nina Fuller-Shavel discusses the use of injectable mistletoe as a cancer treatment in conjunction with the standard treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy. Nina was working as a doctor in the UK's NHS when she discovered in her early thirties that she had breast cancer. That was a decade ago, but that experience helped focus her mind on the reality of being a cancer patient and of the importance of treating the whole person not just the disease. Injectable mistletoe therapy is used widely in hospitals in  Germany with up to 60% of patients having it as part of their cancer care, but it is rarely used in the UK or the states.  Yet results and published data suggest it can help a patient's fatigue, general quality of life and may even be able to help improve white cell count, which could be critically important for chemotherapy patients who sometimes have to delay further treatment if their therapy causes their white cell count to drop too low. Nina has now had patients who have been on the treatment for years and is keen to persuade the British authorities to adopt it as recommended, cost effective cancer treatment . A stroll down the supplement aisle is a walk filled with hope. One pill offers stronger hair and nails. Another promises better memory (which will help when you have to remember to take all these pills). And if you added just one more, you might be able to finally recapture the energy of your teenage years. But how true are these claims? Currently, the Food and Drug Administration does not approve the contents or the labeling dietary supplements before they hit the shelves.Around 75 percent of Americans take a supplement, including Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He once said he took so many vitamins he couldn't remember them all. But RFK Jr., who champions supplements and other alternative medicines, is now pushing the FDA for stronger regulations. What could that mean for the supplement industry? And why are so many Americans turning to health alternatives today?Find more of our programs online.
