Were the feeding of the 5,000 and the feeding of the 4,000 the same event? Some scholars say yes, and they use that claim to cast doubt on the reliability of the Gospels and the whole of Scripture. In this episode of Beyond the Notes, Elder Peter Finch walks through the specific differences between the two miracles: the location, the crowd, the season, the amount of food used, the length of time the people had been with Jesus, the Greek word for "basket," and the crowd's response afterward. He also examines Matthew 16, where Jesus himself references both feedings by name, and considers why Christ would repeat a miracle of this magnitude. The answer has less to do with the bread and more to do with who Jesus is feeding. His provision is not reserved for one people group, one season, or one kind of person. He is the bread of life for Jews and Gentiles, for the familiar and the stranger, for those who have come to church for years and those who have never walked through the door. The gang comes together to discuss the UFC White House card. First, Lavender Gooms celebrates the Knicks becoming champions. The gang then talk about all the non-fighting parts of the card - discussing what went right and what went wrong. They talk about Gaethje stunning Topuria for the lightweight championship and Gane battering Poatan. The gang discusses the rest of the card and what is next for the winners. All that and another edition of "Stuff We Like."
The King Has Come "Thy Compassions, They Fail Not" (Matthew 15:29-39) In Matthew 15, Jesus moves through Gentile territory with the same compassion He showed Israel. He heals the lame, the blind, the crippled, and the mute, then feeds a crowd of 4,000 with seven loaves and a few small fish. Elder Peter Finch walks through both of these moments to show what compassion actually means. Not a polite feeling, but a God who sees pain, suffers alongside it, and acts to relieve it. He also addresses the disciples' tendency to forget what God has already done, a tendency that is easy to recognize because it is our own. The sermon closes with a direct call to anyone who has not yet come to Christ: God's patience toward you is itself an act of compassion, meant to draw you to repentance. Known to millions as Mrs. Moneypenny from her 16 year Financial Times column, Heather has been an investment banker, executive search entrepreneur, Edinburgh Fringe performer, off Broadway actress, PhD holder, chartered accountant and now Provost of Heriot-Watt University Dubai, overseeing 5,500 students and 600 staff. She qualified as a chartered accountant three weeks before her 60th birthday. She borrowed £1.8 million personally to buy a business, then gifted it to her staff. She co-founded the 30% Club when women held just 12% of FTSE board seats. It is now 45%. This conversation covers all of it. Why she rejects guilt and regret as wasted emotions. What structural barriers actually stop women from getting ahead and how to dismantle them. Why Dubai's greatest advantage is not the skyline but the connectivity and free movement of capital and labour that Europe has quietly forgotten. Can external discipline actually change you from the inside out? In this Beyond the Notes teaching, Pastor Russell Howard works through Colossians 2:16-23, where Paul identifies two dangers for believers: the legalistic judgment of others and the illusion of holiness through self-made religion. From dietary restrictions to ascetic practices to claims of superior spiritual experience, Paul's argument is direct. These things have an appearance of wisdom, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh. The episode closes with Galatians 5:16, what Pastor Russell calls the single most concise and powerful verse in the New Testament on gaining mastery over the desires of the flesh. There are no rules to add, no habits to adopt. There is one command: walk by the Spirit. This teaching is for anyone who has tried harder and still come up short, and who wants to understand what actually produces real growth. "Tradition" (Matthew 14:34-15:20) In this sermon from our ongoing study of the Gospel of Matthew, Pastor Russell Howard draws a line between spiritual discipline and spiritual deception. Habits and behaviors can be genuinely helpful to a believer's walk with God. But when external conformity becomes a substitute for biblical obedience, or when rule-keeping becomes the currency we use to earn God's love, those traditions become dangerous. They inoculate us against the very thing Scripture calls true holiness. Jesus encounters the Pharisees at the height of this tension. They have traveled over 100 miles from Jerusalem to challenge his disciples over a handwashing tradition rooted not in God's law but in the oral traditions of the rabbis. Jesus turns the accusation around: they are enforcing human rules while violating the actual commandments of God. He quotes Isaiah, "This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me." Then in verses 10 through 20, he makes an assertion that upends their entire framework. It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person. It is what comes out of the heart. The real problem has never been unwashed hands. It has always been an unwashed heart. Pastor Russell closes with this anchor from Ephesians 2: "By grace we have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Obedience matters, but obedience proceeds from a transformed heart, not from an attempt to earn favor with God. If you have been trying to make God love you more, this message is the grace-shaped correction you didn't know you needed. The first episode of a non-theme month here in June (and the 743rd overall) gets loud about Baz Luhrmann's bombastic Moulin Rouge. It's the kind of zany project where the director and star of this Paris-set movie are both Australians (Luhrmann and Nicole Kidman) while the co-lead is Scottish (Ewan McGregor) and a Colombian (John Leguizamo) plays the real-life French writer Toulouse Lautrec. Kidman and McGregor are well-matched as gaga lovers and, while she got most of the raves, he's just as good...if not even better. Baz's main hook is to use anachronistic pop hits on the soundtrack in his frantic, garish musical that's absolutely in love with love. Either you're all in...or you won't be able to put up with more than 10 minutes of it. But put up with me talking baout the sickly courtesan and her idealistic writer who l'amour things up in the spectacular (spectacular) Moulin Rouge. Could communist Chinese infiltration of Canada become an existential threat to American security—or is it already one?Scott McGregor has spent decades in the Canadian military and Canadian intelligence studying the threat that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses to Canada and North America more broadly. He has known about the CCP's infiltration of Canada for many years and briefed major intelligence agencies in both Canada and the United States about it.According to McGregor, the strategic partnership between Canada and China is extremely detrimental to Canada's interests—and also poses a major security threat to America.McGregor, who is the co-author of the book “The Mosaic Effect,” told me the partnership “came as quite a shock. ... This strategic alliance ... cuts the legs out of the people that have been trying to bring awareness to the threat of China to Canada and North America.”U.S. President Donald Trump's comments last year about Canada becoming America's 51st state alienated many Canadians to such a degree that they are eager to distance themselves from America. But McGregor says the reality is that Canada very much depends on the United States. It's by far Canada's most important trading partner and an indispensable military partner.“Canada relies on the United States as a partner in logistics support, especially militarily. When I deployed, we had Canadians that were saved because Americans had helicopters that could operate in regions that we just couldn't. We didn't have the capability. The same goes for weaponry,” he says.Without American military support, McGregor warns, “We are left on our own. ... Canada needs the United States.”But do Canadians want to hear such warnings? Do Canadians perhaps tend to overestimate their country's military strength? Do they understand the depth of the threat from a China under CCP rule? Are they aware of the extent to which Canadian society has already been undermined over the last half century? And are Canadians perhaps too trusting to realize that the CCP has a plan for Canada and is executing it?He tells me: “China has a goal, an objective. It's not destruction at this point. It's disruption, and the disruption is working. They've outflanked us. We're fighting amongst ourselves—exactly what they want.”Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

What do you do when you know God is faithful but your circumstances are screaming something different? In this Beyond the Notes episode, Ryan Flint, Worship Pastor at McGregor Baptist Church, explores the concept of gospel amnesia: the very human pattern of forgetting what we know to be true about God the moment suffering gets loud. Drawing from Matthew 14, the Psalms, and the Israelites' journey through the wilderness, Ryan explains why fear narrows our vision and how it causes us to interpret God through our storms instead of interpreting our storms through God. Ryan walks through five practical anchors for fighting back: staying in God's Word, staying connected to the church, worshiping regularly, remembering what God has done before, and preaching gospel truth to yourself every day. Whether you are in a hard season or simply want to be more ready for the next one, this episode gives you a clear and honest framework for keeping the gospel close when life gets loud. The King Has Come "The Storm That Reveals The Savior" (Matthew 14:22-33) Jesus did not send the disciples into the storm by accident. He sent them on purpose, and He knew exactly what they would find there. In this sermon from Matthew 14:22-33, Ryan Flint, Worship Pastor at McGregor Baptist Church, traces the disciples from the shoreline crowd still buzzing after the feeding of the five thousand, out onto the dark water, and into a fear they could not manage on their own. Through Peter's bold step out of the boat and his slow, terrifying sink beneath the waves, we see the central truth of the passage clearly: faith thrives and fear fades when we fix our eyes on Jesus. The storm was not evidence that Christ had abandoned them. It was the very place He revealed Himself most fully. Listeners walk away with this: the trials you are carrying are not interruptions to God's work in your life. They are invitations to trust Him more clearly, see Him more fully, and worship Him in a way the calm shore never could have produced. Since it's Memorial Day, I'm tipping a cap to veterans. And I've got another doubleheader in episode #741, with the bulk of the show devoted to Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down (where American soldiers battle Somalis in 1993 Mogadishu), then there's a short bit at the end about William Wellman's Battleground (where American grunts take on the Nazis during the Battle Of The Bulge in WWII). Both films won technical Oscars and are intense, apolitical war stories. Appropriate for Heroes Month, you just fight for your fellow soldiers. Black Hawk Down stars the likes of Hartnett and McGregor, but we've also got well-known character actors like Sizemore, Fichtner and Shepard...not to mention up-and-comers like Bloom, Hardy and a super-cool Bana. Wednesday Night Teaching "Holy Justice" (Luke 13:1-5) What do you do with the parts of the Bible that feel severe? The passages where God's judgment lands swiftly and people die, where nations are destroyed, where the cost of sin is immediate and real? If we're honest, those passages can produce more questions than comfort. In this Wednesday night teaching, Elder Mike Hess walks through Luke 13:1-5 and a series of passages across the Old and New Testaments, including Leviticus 10, 1 Chronicles 13, and Numbers 4, to show that God's justice is never a miscarriage of justice. It is always an expression of who He is: holy, infinitely wise, and never wrong. Hess addresses four commonly misunderstood biblical concepts (justice, holiness, grace, and sin), examines the stumbling blocks that lead us to question God rather than submit to Him, and shows that perfect justice is ultimately found at the cross of Jesus Christ, where the wrath of God was satisfied so that sinners could be declared righteous. Because God is holy, we can trust Him completely, with our questions, our pain, and our future. No shortage of topics to discuss on today's UFC Unfiltered, as Jim Norton and Matt Serra recap an exciting Fight Night card filled with finishes and react to the announcement of Conor McGregor's return to the Octagon against Max Holloway at UFC 329 on July 11.But first, Jim and Matt are joined by 4th-ranked middleweight Brendan Allen ahead of his June 6th co-main event against Edmen Shahbazyan at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Allen explains why he accepted a risky matchup against an unranked opponent despite knowing a loss could jeopardize his place near the top of the division.Between interviews, the guys dive deeper into McGregor vs. Holloway — debating whether Holloway's activity is enough to make him the rightful favorite against a bigger McGregor in a non-title main event at a new weight class for Max.Khaos Williams calls in from sunny Las Vegas fresh off his first-round knockout win over Nikolay Veretennikov, with a special Jamahal Hill cameo kicking off the interview. Khaos reflects on how far he's come since his younger days, emphasizing the importance of paying it forward and being a living example of perseverance for the kids he now mentors.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
How can Jesus know the hearts of men and also ask a genuine question? How can he foretell his own death and resurrection and also say he does not know the day or the hour of his return? In this Beyond the Notes teaching, the speaker walks through the biblical evidence for both sides of Christ's nature, drawing from Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Hebrews, and Philippians. The episode covers specific moments of supernatural knowledge (the coin in the fish, Nathaniel under the fig tree, the foretelling of Peter's denial), specific moments of genuine human limitation (questions asked at the tomb of Lazarus, growth in wisdom in Luke 2:52, learning obedience through suffering in Hebrews 5:8), the Council of Chalcedon (451 A.D.) as a landmark articulation of the hypostatic union, and the kenosis passage in Philippians 2:5-8, explaining what it means that the Son "emptied himself" without ceasing to be fully divine. The episode closes with a pastoral challenge: refusing to do theology is not the same as worshiping freely. If you never examine who Jesus actually is, you run a real risk of devoting yourself to a Jesus of your own construction. This teaching is for anyone who takes Jesus seriously enough to think carefully about him. Presented by McGregor Podcast 2026 Visit Our Website at McGregorPodcast.com New to McGregor? The King Has Come "Jesus Feeds the 5000" (Matthew 14:13-21) In Matthew 14, Jesus has just received word that his cousin and fellow minister John the Baptist has been killed. He withdraws to grieve. A crowd of more than 10,000 follows. And rather than sending them away, Jesus extends compassion. Then he turns to his disciples and says something that stops them cold: "You give them something to eat." Pastor Russell Howard walks through this miracle, the only one recorded in all four Gospels before the resurrection, and draws out its central test. The disciples analyzed the situation correctly. Five loaves, two fish, no money, no plan. They passed the math test. What they failed was the faith test. The Jordan River did not part until Israel's feet touched the water. Provision follows obedience. Measuring the gap is good, because it lets you see when God acts. But the gap is not the final answer. The listener walks away with a clearer picture of what Jesus is actually asking when he calls his people to do what seems impossible: bring what you have, open-handed, and let him work.
