Tony opens the show by talking about another tough Nats loss, and he also talks about Caitlin Clark and the WNBA, but he doesn't talk about the 2nd round of the NBA Draft. Chuck Todd calls in to talk about his frustrations in trying to watch the Nats while he is in Florida, and he also talks about his new podcast “Dynastic”. Dan Graziano calls in to talk about the NFL's response to Brendan Sorsby's attempt to enter the league via the supplemental draft, and Tony closes out the show by opening up the Mailbag. Binge drinking can look harmless right up until it doesn't. If you only drink on weekends, vacations, or big nights out, it's easy to tell yourself you're fine because you're not drinking every day. But the consequences of one high-risk night can be life-changing, and clinically, intermittent heavy drinking can still meet criteria for an alcohol use disorder.I'm joined by Colleen Clifford, a former binge drinker who spent 36 years working at sea as a commercial fisherwoman and is now transitioning into health coaching to help clients manage binge drinking and binge eating. Colleen shares the personal grief that shaped her mission, the stories she used to justify “normal” partying, and the turning-point moment that made her drop alcohol for good. We also get practical about what actually counts as a binge, including how “one drink” is often smaller than the glass in your hand.We discuss the DSM-5 criteria for alcohol use disorder, how many people who binge drink do not think they have a problem, and why cravings can still show up years later. Colleen explains how she handles urges by observing them, naming the discomfort, and playing the tape forward. I also share a harm-reduction option many people don't know about: medications like naltrexone that, for some patients, can be taken before drinking to reduce binge episodes. We wrap with trends like alcohol-free wine and shifting drinking culture across generations, plus Colleen's core message: it only takes one moment of drinking too much to change your life forever.Subscribe, share this with someone who's questioning their relationship with alcohol, and please leave a review so more people can find the show.To learn more about Colleen and her work: https://purepotential.health/To contact Dr. Grover: ammadeeasy@fastmail.com

CJ and Sean talk about the recently-departed Ted Turner, an old-school billionaire who seemed like he'd be fun to have a beer with. We laugh about how he ran the Braves as almost a barnstorming gag team in the early 1980s and his confidence that the American public did not have sophisticated taste in television. CJ shares some stories about Derek Stevens, the official billionaire of The Blackout Diaries- a good-timing, vintage Casino owner that CJ knows from his sports gambling world. We also share some of the details emerging from the Sam Altman / Elon Musk trial, and how Altman seems to be a hilarious liar. And in Sean's neck of the woods, there is a Wisconsin business magnate who keeps promising his brewery will giveaway free beer the day Trump dies.

What it's like to be drunk and disabled!Just a couple of punks laughing way too hard and telling stories that probably should've stayed off camera. Enjoy.
In Ephesians 5:18, Paul says, "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit..."In this episode, Jackson Hankey preaches about the sin of drunkenness and the need for Christians to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Charles Spurgeon once said that,“without the Spirit of God we can do nothing. We are as ships without wind or chariots without steeds. Like branches without sap, we are withered. Like coals without fire, we are useless. Like an offering without the sacrificial flame, we are unaccepted.”

Look, we tried to have a sophisticated chat about interwar music (the stuff between the two big global scraps) but obviously, it devolved into a conversation about penis tattoos and whether or not Reddit is a valid academic source. Dr. Sam brings the "knowledge" (mostly from books he is actually holding, for once), and Andrew tries to figure out how to eat a Scotch egg without a plate while pondering the sexual deviance of 1920s novelty songs. We cover Duke Ellington's Mood Indigo, the absolute filth hidden in "I'm Going to Bring a Watermelon to My Girl Tonight," and why Robert Johnson might have just practiced really hard instead of selling his soul to the devil. It is a rambling journey through jazz, folk, and German Marxist theatre that somehow ends with Woody Allen and a two-fingered guitarist. Recorded on the weekend where Chicago dyes the river Green, CJ and Sean discuss some of their favorite St Patrick's Day traditions, including The almost-hilariously-dangerous Cheltenham Horse-Racing Festival which is held in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day. That is compared to other, wildly dangerous horse races throughout the world before CJ and Sean re-read their favorite annual work of journalism- the transcription of all of the arrests made during last year's St Patrick's Day parade as heard over the Chicago police radio.

This one takes me back to where it all started. Around 1997-8, I began DJing high school dances at boarding school in Massachusetts. My thing was subtly incorporating underground, funky music that kids didn't hear on the radio or at home. That's how I got into the various global scenes that existed at that time, like electronica, drum & bass, big beat, and NYC tribal house. I was discovering music by flipping through tracks on DJ mix CDs at listening stations in Tower Records, HMV, and Newbury Comics. I would go to our local DJ record stores — Boston ...

Christmas comes early for President Trump and his extraordinary wins with his policies. The U.S. economy surged in quarter 3 of 2025. Gross domestic product grew at a 4.3%, much stronger than the 3.2% predicted by economists. With gas prices continuing to drop and Christmas and New Year's travel at a record high, the economy seems to be full steam ahead. As more Epstein files are released, the more Bill Clinton comes under scrutiny. Unsavory photos of "tubba bubba" in a hot tub and multiple pictures of Bill and Jeffrey together, Bill Clinton can't escape the Epstein scandal. With the released 30,000 documents, only untrue and sensationalist claims can be made against President Trump. A custodian at Brown University warned staff members about the shooter three times about his suspicious behavior but staff members were more concerned about Palestinian events on campus. This tragedy could have been avoided and saved the lives of Ella Cook and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov. Rand Paul's festivus report revealed more atrocious ways our government spends money, like $5 million to give dogs cocaine and over $1 million to teach teenage ferrets to binge-drink alcohol. An episode devoted to the ups-and-downs, risks-and-rewards of Holiday Parties. CJ and Sean discuss some historically-famous holiday parties, like the First Ward Ball in Chicago, a corrupt, drunken political party thrown every Christmas time; the classic tradition of Saturnalias, which are winter parties with debauched drinking that a Lord of Misrule heads. We share some of our own stories, including office and apartment holiday parties gone awry, including the time a tree was destroyed at the bottom of a high rise. And Sean gives some hilarious details on the classic holiday party treat (from years gone by) of mince meat pies, which were laden with so much booze everyone went to sleep with nightmares.

An episode on one of our favorite kinds of, highly-successful, functioning ne'er-do-wells: drunk coaches. Sean remembers Kevin Mackey, a visionary basketball coach who had been sober for 40 years before dying, but was an old fashion hell-raiser in Cleveland prior to getting sober. We also talk about some of our favorite drunk-coaching disasters from Alabama to Iowa State and Louisville and how drunk coaches always have some assistant that is willing to take the fall for them. Finally we discuss one of our favorite sports cons from the last few years- Bishop Sycamore which was not only a fake school and a fake football program but also a fake Bishop.

A woman sued and won because her work mate kept rolling her eyes at her, and the new iPhone 17 has a bit of a problem. A single Pokémon card just sold for millions, and people are dropping their subscriptions to streaming services in droves. Prenups in marriage are very popular now, and they say the high divorce rate is a myth, and I say bullshit! An arriving plane couldn't land because the traffic controller had fallen asleep, and what's something you secretly judge someone for? Thinking about a do-it-yourself home project with your spouse? Don't! What really stresses out most people at work? Hint, it's not the job, and how would you like to see commercials on your refrigerator every morning? Why would someone send a package containing a pair of woman's shoes to an island where only cows lived, and with that in mind; monkeys like to get drunk. Lastly, a car was pulled over and the woman in the car blamed the driving on her husband, but she was the only one in the car. Let's light this candle!
There are moments in Scripture which, like doors slightly ajar, invite us into rooms far deeper than we first imagined. One such moment occurs in the Gospel of John, where Christ says: “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up” (John 3:14). At first glance, the comparison may seem almost grotesque; our Saviour is likened to a serpent, an emblem of death and sin. And yet, here lies one of the profoundest truths in all of Christian thought: that God redeems not merely through might, but through our deepest pain.Recall the scene in the book of Numbers. The Israelites, having once again rebelled against God, are plagued by fiery serpents. They cry out for mercy, and Moses is instructed not to remove the serpents, but to lift up a bronze image of one on a pole. All who looked upon it were healed. They were not told to pretend the serpents weren't real, nor were they told to earn their healing. They had only to look. The very image of their suffering became the conduit for their salvation. And so it is with the Cross.Christ was lifted up, not as a mere martyr, nor as a teacher, but as the one who became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21). The Cross is no mere symbol; it is the divine paradox. There, the Innocent bore guilt. The Holy bore shame. The Immortal embraced death. And in that darkest moment, the door to light was thrown open. But let us not rush too quickly to the light. For many of us, the problem is not believing in Christ's victory – it is believing that our pain, our guilt, our most unmentionable failures, could possibly be included in it. We imagine the Cross as something above us, clean and exalted. But in truth, the Cross descends. It is God stooping down into the filth of our humanity. If Christ is lifted up, He is lifted up with all the sins of the world pressing down upon Him – mine and yours. This is the invitation: not to hide your wounds, but to bring them into the light of the Cross. To look upon the Crucified One and see not only the cost of love, but its healing. Your deepest pain is not too deep for Him. In fact, it is precisely where He means to meet you.Lift your eyes, then, not in despair, but in hope. The Cross does not demand perfection; it only asks you to look. And in looking, you may find not only healing, but yourself. There are no more facades, or masks, or games pretending to be okay. Beholding the crucified one, we find the power and meaning behind our suffering. Jesus can use it for our salvation. Once we stop running from our pain, we can exclaim like the legendary 5th century bishop, St. Augustine – “In my deepest wound, I saw your glory and it dazzled me.” --- Help Spread the Good News --- Father Brian's homilies are shared freely thanks to generous listeners like you. This month's Akasha guidance comes through with a spark — inviting you to drink the nectar of life, say yes to the new, and move with the bold pulse of change. I share stories from my own path of balancing the masculine and feminine within and opening to receive - yes, the bees are involved. I also share a dream I had recently at the beginning of this episode… and then an unexpected twist at the end. Rising tides, both literal and energetic, have brought unexpected clarity. Semi-autobiographical podcast on drinking and the Catholic Church, inspired by the new Chicago-raised pope! CJ and Sean tell stories about growing up in the Catholic Church and how common drinking was at all religious ceremonies. Comedian Joe Kilgallon, one of our regulars at the live show, joins us in studio to also share some of his own stories about attending a Catholic, all-boys highschool. In recent news, and still on the subject of religion, Sean talks about the historical importance of Jimmy Swaggart, a grifting preacher who died this week. And, most importantly, the new Big Man Himself, 'Da Chicago Pope calls into the studio to answer some questions and give The Blackout Diaries an official blessing. Checkout Joe's latest comedy album, "Life & Death", on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNVc-f4Z3KM 'Da Chicago Pope can be followed on Instagram via our buddy Mick Betancourt's profile: https://www.instagram.com/mickbetancourt/?hl=en Mick is a hilarious writer and performer from Chicago.
Summer block buster / Fourth of July Episode where we talk about how people spend the holiday week. Sean recaps seeing the newest Tom Cruise movie, where an old couple was more entertaining than the movie itself. CJ and Sean discuss fireworks, the fourth of July and the hilariously unsafe rules most lakes have around boating, where the consensus seems to be : if rich people want to kill themselves, so be it. CJ talks about how he might grade a hot dog eating contest and how, in general, those contests have become to specialized and commercial.
