Jen Psaki observes that as Donald Trump gets more comfortable with his autocrat persona, the traits that made him a societal laughing stock all his life are coming to define his leadership style. And the mockery he has become has so diminished him that his opponents are emboldened to get in the way of his demolition of the United States.Donald Trump's lackeys in Congress are trying to support his effort to exact revenge on the public servants who tried to hold him to account. Former special counsel Jack Smith is a prominent name on Trump's enemies list, so it's not surprising that Congressional Republicans would try to discredit him with their investigating-the-investigators hearings. Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann talks with Jen Psaki about why Jack Smith is smart to agree to participate in the hearings on the condition that they be public. Jen Psaki addresses questions posed at the White House press briefing, giving more honest and direct answers than the White House is willing to offer on questions ranging from Donald Trump's desecration of the White House to Trump's pardoning of a crypto-criminal business associate. BethAnn Freed Cohen joins Scene to Song to discuss parody in musical theater. We discuss “what exactly is a parody?” and what it means in musicals. We dig into what elements make a good parody, using examples such as Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance and the episode “Original Cast Album: Co-op” from the show Documentary Now! As BethAnn notes, ” there are musicals that are funny but are not parodies and there are musicals that copy styles but are not funny.” We also talk about the Stephen Sondheim and Mary Rodgers song “The Boy From…” from 1966 revue The Mad Show. You can write to scenetosong@gmail.com with a comment or question about an episode or about musical theater, or if you'd like to be a podcast guest. To celebrate the release of Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein (Netflix, 2025), Bella and Nick revisit three unforgettable film adaptations of Mary Shelley's iconic Gothic novel. From the classic Universal monster movies that defined early Hollywood horror, to Mel Brooks' legendary parody and Kenneth Branagh's (somewhat) faithful 1994 retelling, this episode of the Gimme Three Podcast dives into how each filmmaker reimagined Frankenstein for a new generation.First, James Whale and Boris Karloff create the pre-Code masterpiece that cemented the image of Frankenstein's monster in pop culture. Second, Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks deliver a comedic yet affectionate homage in the cult favorite Young Frankenstein (1974). Finally, Kenneth Branagh directs Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994), starring Robert De Niro as The Creature in a lavish, Shakespearean take on the timeless story.Whether you're a horror movie buff, a classic film fan, or just curious how Mary Shelley's Frankenstein keeps coming back to life on screen, this episode has you covered.❗️SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE ❗️Support the showSign up for our Patreon for exclusive Bonus Content.Follow the podcast on Instagram @gimmethreepodcastYou can keep up with Bella on Instagram @portraitofacinephile or Letterboxd You can keep up with Nick: on Instagram @nicholasybarra, on Twitter (X) @nicholaspybarra, or on LetterboxdShout out to contributor and producer Sonja Mereu. 4. Saddam's Trial and Maliki's Revenge Abdullahad saw Saddam twice—as powerful youth icon then frail defendant in a trial that became "parody of justice," allowing Saddam to re-dignify himself in Arab consciousness. After December 2006 execution, Saddam's body went to Maliki's house, revealing "petty sectarian mentality." Civil war ended with Sunni defeat, former resistance figures like Hamid who opposed Al-Qaeda disappeared, and hundreds of thousands of educated Iraqis fled.

"Cryptozoology is the study of a creature that probably doesn ot exist. Think Bigfoot. What is great about it is that every state seems to have its own monster. Maybe people really do think it exists or maybe it was invented to scare children at Halloween. We built up a list along with songs about candy. It is Halloween 2025."

Why did Falk follow Petra into this stupid walk-in refrigerator? Why are the shelves filled with human heads in bottles? Are you some kind of non-partisan, crime-adjacent figure? As I'm sure everyone who frequents this site already knows all too well, The Dr. Demento Show comes to an end this weekend after 55 glorious years of mad music and crazy comedy. And what better way to pay tribute to such a momentous finale than by attempting to recap the entire history of the good doctor's show - and thus, ostensibly the entire history of comedy music itself - into an eight-and-a-half-minute parody of Don McLean's classic rock staple "American Pie?" From the recently-released compilation album Fruits of the Smogberry Trees: The FuMP's Tribute to Dr. Demento, this song was a true labor of love. Barret Hansen, aka Dr. Demento, has enriched my life and livelihood far more than I can easily express, but this song was my attempt at expressing it anyway, and I hope you all enjoy it. Above all, don't you ever DARE forget to STAY DEEEEEEEEEEMENTED!!!! "Many music outlets noticed there was no traditional Summer Song this year. No poppy dance tune that rose to the top of the charts. The Billboard Summer Song chart claimed a number one but it was a down tempo ballad. We will explore what happened and why."
'P.E. Guy' creator rockets to viral fame with deadpan parody of America's ultra-elite lifestyle
It's a firestorm hour. First up: “Schumer Shutdown” gets its satirical takedown — a brand new Pags parody skewering Chuck Schumer you've got to hear to believe. Then Polk County Sheriff Grady Judge issues a nation-wide warning to police chiefs — Pags can't help but wonder: why doesn't Chicago have leadership like this? And the heat gets turned up even more when Dinesh D'Souza joins Pags for a lively conversation. His new film The Dragon's Prophecy releases in select theaters around October 7th and dives deep into the roots of conflict, anti-Semitism, and modern warfare. Together, they also dig into Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson — why the sudden spotlight on Israel, and what's behind the narrative shifts? It's bold, fast, and full of insights that'll have you glued to every second. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

"Many countries around the world take time each year to poll their citizens about their favorite songs. It usually happens around Christmas and a major media outlet plays the songs. We will tell you about some of the biggest ones and try to figure out why we don't do that here in America."

In this episode of Passing Judgment, Jessica Levinson unpacks the legal issues behind Jimmy Kimmel's temporary show suspension. She explains the distinction between private action by ABC and possible government coercion from the FCC or the President, outlining why the First Amendment generally protects speech from government—not private—actions. Jessica also discusses the limited circumstances under which the FCC could revoke broadcast licenses and what this case means for free speech and media organizations moving forward. Here are three key takeaways you don't want to miss:1. The Suspension and Return of Jimmy Kimmel's ShowJessica Levinson opens the episode by explaining the sequence of events around Jimmy Kimmel's temporary suspension from ABC after a controversial comment in his monologue. She emphasizes that although he has now been returned to air, the legal issues discussed still remain relevant.2. The Role and Limits of the First AmendmentA central theme is clarifying what the First Amendment protects. Jessica explains that the First Amendment limits government action against speech, not actions taken by private entities like ABC. If ABC alone had suspended Kimmel with no government involvement, it would not be a First Amendment issue.3. Government Involvement and the FCC's RoleThe episode explores concerns about potential government overreach, specifically whether statements made by the FCC chair or the President could constitute government coercion. Jessica details how, if the government pressures a private company to take action against someone's speech, First Amendment concerns are triggered.Follow Our Host: @LevinsonJessica
