Jay Heaps' six year run as head coach of the New England Revolution has reportedly come to an end. The sacking of Heaps comes with just five remaining matches on the 2017 schedule for New England and follows a crushing week in which the Revs were out-scored a combined 10-1 at Atlanta and Kansas City. A call and text message from Six States One Podcast to New England's communications staff was not immediately returned and the team made no formal announcement regarding the head coach as of late Monday evening. SSOP verified the reports of Heaps' ouster from a source close to the club. This week, Ray, Matt and Jon are joined by former Midnight Ride host Hank Alexandre, who fills in for Alex. The boys do their best to muddle through the Revs' 7-0 loss at Atlanta and 3-1 downing at Sporting Kansas City, where New England was done in by a lack of self control that left them with a stack of red and yellow cards and down men in both matches. With only five matches to go and a new or interim coach on the horizon, the Revs would need to win out and and get some help from Vancouver and Columbus to have even the most remote of possibilities to squeak into the playoffs. We'll fire up the Huot 8000 and play out the unlikely red line scenarios. The road to respectability runs through Foxborough this week with Eastern Conference leading Toronto FC coming to town. It's Bonus Song Thursday! Singer, songwriter, musician Jesse Elliot (jesseelliot.com) joins Brian and Bill once again to discuss Elvis Costello. We jump a couple albums into the artist's discography to discuss his single "Oliver's Army" from Armed Forces (1979, Radar/Columbia), the second album to feature backing band the Attractions. We discuss the polish and improved production on this album, Costello's move into New Wave, what the song's lyrics refer to, irony, the use of controversial lyrics, and when Costello recently addressed that topic.
Claire and Niamh sat down with Sam and Gina from Oliver's Army, who are performing at the Retreat Hotel in Brunswick on Friday, April 17th. The girls were lucky enough to enjoy a sweet live performance.
