::Tough Luck Records presents - Tough Luck Radio:: 11th September 2014 The first episode of Tough Luck radio, with Tough Luck Records co boss REbEL
Chris hailing from the north east has been on the DJ circuit since 2006 taking up regular slots at the well establish B.R.A techno nights in his early 20's then leading on to his own brand EDIT then onto a becoming a firm favourite at Birmingham's Eclectricity alongside CLR's Rebekah. EcLectricity gave Chris the chance to be billed for showcases like Cocoon, Desolat and Sci-tec. Stepping into the music scene, Techno was always the sound that stood out for chris, it was the short loops and driving energy that got him hooked. In 2011 Chris joined forces with Adam & Adrian Fairless, and SAMPLE entered Newcastle's strong House & Techno scene and gave it, debut act's like Martinez Brothers, Art Department and Guti to name a few over the years. Since then Chris has established himself alot more within todays music industry securing management from Alchimia Booking agency, Original releases on his own vinyl imprint Tough Luck Records and remix work for Sequential Recordings and Walk & Talk Records. Adam Todd also hailing from North East, only put his first record on the platter only a few years ago and it all came natural from there, the avid vinyl collector thrives on keeping his music knowledge fresh and upto date and pulls inspiration for his mixes and dj sets from the likes producers SHED and Answer Code Request. Adam joined SAMPLE one year in, and help push the brand, and get Digital Newcastle packed out on few occasions over the years !!
Unlike many weird and wonderful names in music, this one couldn’t be more descriptive if it led a revolution. Never one for conforming, following or holding back, Jonny ‘Rebel’ Lawrence's passion for music can be heard throughout his work as well as in his personality. Always open minded Jonny's influence are broad. Spanning across 80s pop culture and the 90s dance music scene, plus what close friends describe as ‘an unhealthy obsession with hero Sasha’ - you can see where Rebel pulls direction from. Hailing from the historically conservative Buckinghamshire, it’s not hard to see where the thirst to step away from the norm came from. After realising his passion for music and all things artistic at a young age, Jonny had found the ammunition he needed to flourish from a wayward boy to a rebellious leader. In 2004 he moved to Leicester and began his musical journey quickly becoming a regular at the cities infamous Sonido parties before launching his own venture in the form of Save The Pony. 2013 sees the launch of "Tough Luck Records", Jonny's own imprint (Alongside friends Chris Cue and Twon) with a clearly defined ethos, tough, raw Techno and house. It's first release, REbEL's "History" EP was immediately picked up by the likes of Loco Dice, Stacey Pullen, wAFF, Adam Shelton, Bloody Mary, Jozif and more. It also received Mixmag's "Techno tune of the month" for August 2013, scoring 9/10, surely a sign of things to come from TLR. With a vast array of unreleased material lying dormant in his hard drive and a continuous drive to make music, promote parties and push his label, Jonny will surely continue to work hard and succeed in an ever evolving scene.
For the 5th instalment of the BeatStreet podcast we have one of Tough Luck Records head-honchos; Chris Cue. This lad's been very busy over the last few years. Aside from honing his now renowned DJ & production skills, Chris was on with Sample; a house & techno nights that graced the clubs of Newcastle bringing in some of the Worlds top DJ's, such as Art Department & The Martinez Brothers. Whilst promoting and running the night as well as doing the business for brands all over the UK, Chris' slick production skills landed him releases on BeatStreet certified labels such as Kaluki Musik & Deep Tech Records. Releases via these labels opened the door for Chris to earn sets with brands such as Cocoon, Minus & Desolat - and not too long back he was snapped up by the "Two Point Zero" Family alongside the likes of Jody Wisternof and Martin Eyerer. In more recent times, he's fired up Tough Luck Records alongside Lower East's Rebel and his Save The Pony partner-in-crime, Twon, a label specialising in underground techno (I believe there's a few cheeky unreleased cuts from them up in this B.) Over the next few months Chris has dates lined up in all over Europe and this wicked podcast, focusing on stripped back, deep techno, one of the many sounds we heavily endorse at BeatStreet, explains exactly why he's such hot property. Enjoy, BeatStreet x
