TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ ANSWER CODE REQUEST Patrick Gräser, better known as Answer Code Request, has carved out a distinctive niche in the techno landscape with his hybrid musical style. His innovative approach, characterized by a fusion of pad-driven harmonies, intricate breaks, and an industrial tone, has set him apart since his emergence on the esteemed Ostgut Ton label in 2012. This breakthrough led to a prestigious residency at Berghain, further cementing his influence in the scene. Gräser's work, including various releases and remixes for notable labels such as Ostgut Ton, MDR, Dolly Deluxe, and Monkeytown Records, has garnered widespread acclaim. Gräser's journey from a forest workshop near his hometown to the forefront of techno is marked by his wide-ranging musical tastes. His nights, spent mixing records from Hardwax and Delirium, contributed to the development of his characteristic sound, a blend that includes elements of jungle, drum ‘n' bass, Detroit, IDM, and UK bass. This unique amalgamation of styles is evident in his early releases on Music Man and his own ACR imprint, showcasing a talent that transcends traditional techno boundaries. Modern hypnotics from a new techno star. It's a tale as old as time: techno DJ moves to Berlin to chase a dream. Philippa Pacho is part of the latest wave of talent to tread that familiar path. But don't let that fool you. She's one of the classiest artists around—no TikTok gimmicks here. Pacho's formative years were spent in her native Stockholm, navigating a vibrant DIY party scene that included warehouse raves and illegal parties. She eventually took up a long-standing residency at beloved local club Under Bron and the experience, as she details in this week's Q&A, sharpened her technical skills, teaching her to handle every type of set—whether opening with patience, supporting a headliner or closing with finesse. She also played with countless touring DJs, from Answer Code Request to Antony Parasole, which ultimately inspired her move to Berlin. That relocation has firmly paid off. It's a testament to Pacho's talent that you'll find her playing pretty much every big club and festival across Europe, from Berghain and Dekmantel to FOLD and Monument (we were exhausted just looking at her upcoming listings on RA). Other recent highlights include closing out Bassiani's tenth birthday, and back-to-backs with Fadi Mohem and Sandrien. Pacho's RA Podcast showcases her preference for classy, hypnotic techno, striking a balance between muscle and subtle groove. Her aptitude for what makes dance floors tick is also evident on her two labels—Phorum Records and positivesource (co-run with Blue Hour)—both of which mirror her DJ style, blending intensity with delicate textures. positivesource has released several standout records, including this year's "Psycho" by BLANKA and Phil Berg's "Psyckik" (which you'll hear on this mix). Spanning 70 minutes, RA.980 is a window into Pacho's thoroughly modern sound (the oldest track is from 2018). And yet it retains a refined, sweeping quality. Give it a spin and you'll soon twig why she's in demand on dance floors worldwide. @philippapacho Read the interview and find the tracklist at ra.co/podcast/980
This edition of our Select series comes courtesy of Beirut-based DJ, producer and percussionist Julian Naman, aka JOOL. Inspired by his parents' extensive music collection, he started producing tracks at the early age of 14, merging various sounds, from jazz, hip-hop and ambient, to progressive rock, techno and house. He has performed alongside a slew of prominent international artists, including Dasha Rush, Ion Ludwig and Answer Code Request, traversing prestigious dancefloors at B018, Ballroom Blitz, Paris' Sputnik and Athens' The Place. Speaking of his Select set, JOOL says, “This set was born out of the challenging times we face in the region, where stress and uncertainty feel overwhelming. It's a reflection of that journey - an offering of love, a message of unity through sound.”
TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ IKAAR Ikaar's passion towards club culture ignited at a very young age: his journey first began on the dance floor, where his love for underground music evolved into a deep fascination for collecting and playing vinyls. Over the years, Ikaar honed his craft by navigating into the boundaries of sound exploration and experimentation, in search for his signature sound. His record collection grew bigger, and his sound became increasingly refined, creating a unique blend of raw techno cuts and 90s-rooted energetic sonorities. October 2022 marked a pivotal moment for his musical development, as he became Resident DJ of Milan-based institution CLOSER, where he had the chance of sharing the DJ booth with heavyweight artists such as Answer Code Request, Takaaki Itoh, The Lady Machine, Fadi Mohem and more - cementing his place in the heart of Italy's underground scene. Dawn Razor and Confluence have proven, again, that they are at the top of the game when it comes to broken, bass heavy Techno. With the bunch of releases on ARTS, Flightpath, Credo and Dext - their music receiving support from some of the biggest names, such as Richie Hawtin, Chris Liebing, Scuba, Rødhad, Marco Bailey, Pan-Pot, Joey Beltram, Shed, and Answer Code Request, it's no wonder their tracks are frequently found in the mixes and playlists of these industry heavyweights. Prolific dj and producer, label owner and promoter - Dawn Razor, conjures up a deft, future-focused productions that paints a rich landscape of exciting sounds that push the boundaries of modern electronic music in a myriad of new directions and has been killing` the game since 2015. Confluence, aka Evgeny Chizhkov, a native of the small town of Dobryanka, Perm region in Russia, a techno-pioneer of the local movement, behind him more than 10 years of DJ career, one of the pioneers of local techno raves, has been actively producing his own music for about 7 years, is currently a member of the Perm community and a series of podcasts - Esthetica. In the Confluence style, there is an academic Detroit interspersed with classic EBM and German electro early 00s, the influence of the English broken beat school and leftfield house is also traced.
Answer Code Request (@answercoderequest) has long since mastered the art of mixing up the physical the with cerebral. His broken, industrial-tinged techno drums are powerful enough to have made him a long-time Berghain resident, while his harmonic pads make a lasting impact on your mind. While releasing on the likes of Ostgut Ton, Dolly Deluxe and Monkeytown Records, he has also established his own ACR label and never fails to blur boundaries between sub-genres whenever he steps out with a new sound or set. He pulls no punches on this week's mix which is a broad showcase of his ability to thread together many different strains of techno and beyond into a coherent whole. There's everything from transcendental and linear rollers to dubby bangers, twitchy rave anthems blissed out deep space minimalism via party starting piano house. It's fun and functional in equal measure and is the sound of a DJ very much in full flow.

Portuguese label Kokölò return as Alfonsvs delivers his ‘Bad Habits' EP, backed by a remix from Answer Code Request. Founded earlier this year, Portuguese label Kokölò made an immediate impact with its debut release(that we had the pleasure of premiering) from anonymous artist and label founder Rave Child, gaining support from the likes of Laurent Garnier,.VRIL, Patrice Baümel, and Nathan Micay. Up next, the label turns to another member of its collective as label event programmer Alfonsvs makes his first outing on the imprint. Returning after a brief hiatus, allowing time to find and refocus his sound, he delivers his first EP since 2017's ‘44th Romance' as he showcases his musical influences and unveils two powerful originals via his ‘Bad Habits' EP - accompanied by a warping remix from Berghain resident Answer Code Request. ‘Physical Education' is a powerful techno voyage that combines dubby stabs, icy hats, and punchy drums to crescendo towards a euphoric ‘hands-in-the-air' moment. The EP, mastered by Conor Dalton at Calyx Mastering Studios, features artwork from young illustrator David Duarte - with the design showcasing his visual interpretation of the title track. Born and raised in Thessaloniki she started her music career in 2012. Annē is a promising upcoming talent fully dedicated to techno music and focused on developing her career as a DJ & producer. Starting as a raver she began to think of music like something extremely experiential. Now she worthily represents the techno scene in her country. Her sets are powerful & pumping with never ending dynamics, focused on the perfect interaction with the crowd. As for her music productions she is sharpening her sound having strong references from Detroit, 90's & 00's sounds, while she is trying to print her inner feelings into her tracks. Being a local artist and resident DJ of executive underground projects in her city, she has shared the booth with some of the most notable international & local artists. Now she is a resident artist on the project Schisma in her city. A very new project which brings artists together & makes special events. She has shared the boot with artists like: Alien Rain, Insolate, Newa, 999999999, Marcel Dune, Axel Karakasis, Salome, VTSS, Keith Karnal, Somewhen etc. Her gigs are include ://about blank in Berlin, C12 in Brussels, Depo Club & Epic Club in Croatia, Reworks festival in Thessaloniki & many more. With strong and very successful releases, on Ben Sim's Label Symbolism, on Out of Place and Soma records she made a bigger step to the music scene while her music has gained massive and diverse support, from artists like Amelie Lens, Answer Code Request, Luke Slater, Marcel Fengler, Pan-Pot, Insolate, Volster, Ben Sims, Anfisa Letyago, Joris Voorn, Slam, Blue Hour, Richie Hawtin, Patrick Mason, just to name a few, charting and playing her tracks very often. Her track “Fairy Dust” on Out of place records gained massive support from the scene counting more than 700.000 streams on Spotify & many more on all other platforms. She has already two shows in HÖR berlin, while she booked a third one this September! Her future though seems brighter, with her new collaborations with Ben Sim's label Hardgroove, Soma records, as long as many vinyl releases & V/ A vinyl compilations later this year. Her point of view is that a Dj is never greater than his audience. This is a unique situation where the dancer becomes part of the whole setting of the music being played. In this, her role is as much part of the audience as the dancers. Basically, she always has one foot on the dance floor and one in the booth. HomeNew Music Share Tweet We've got some new music from two of Ireland's finest techno producers's on one of Ireland's most promising new techno imprints, as Doug Cooney remixes Offtrack for Undivided. Doug Cooney provides a menacing peak-time remix of Offtrack's original, as the RLSD boss man lyes on shuffling rhythms and pulsating synth lines. Undivided was established in early 2021 by Dublin natives Amak & A PageOne, with a goal to showcase emerging local and international talent in electronic music. Together, the duo have created a stir with a series of underground events that have attracted a rapidly growing audience. Following on from the label's previously strong releases from FYuN & Jack Nolan in 2022, they now return with yet another massive Irish releases from Offtrack, with Doug Cooney on remix duties. The 4 track EP is stacked with quivering synth lines, syncopated rhythms and kaleidoscopic shuffling soundscapes. Today we have the pleasure of hosting Doug Cooney's remix. In recent years Doug has been burning the midnight oil in the studio, crafting high octane and distinctly function techno tracks. Cooney has recently signed records with respected labels such as Orbis, GND, Gynoid, EFR, Bastardo Electrico, N&N Records, Research & Orgone, alongside RLSD Records his own imprint laying a strong foundation for his future in music. His productions have received support from Dave Clarke, Amelie Lens, Ben Sims, Luke Slater, Rodhad, KR!Z, and Answer Code Request. Doug's tracks have also been been remixed by Aiken, Binny, Lee Holman and Dystopian Records Jon Hester, proving his calibre in the international arena. Doug's remix of Master Detune show's the RLSD boss man at his rawest and most uncompromising as he goes hell for leather with pounding rhythms and unapologetic synth work. He flips Offtrack's kickless original into a dance-floor devoted frenzy, as tough kick drums crash into jarring percussion, while spaced out hypnotic atmospheres glide across anarchic synth lines. This is hard-edged, peak-time techno at it's finest. For our first premiere of the week, we present a track from one of Ireland's leading and hardest working producers, Doug Cooney. The RLSD boss man is no stranger to knocking out prime techno cuts, and ‘Covalent' is no exception, as Doug channels classic dub techno auras with definitive 909 grooves. Doug Cooney lives and breathes techno within every facet of his life and has dedicated many years to the genres growth and wellbeing in Ireland. From setting up one of Ireland's best techno labels RLSD, to teaching in Bray Institute Of Further Education, alongside teaching his RLSD classes, to churning out proper techno 12 inches, there's few Irish DJs and producers that come close to Doug Cooney in terms of impact on the Irish techno scene. Doug Cooney also boast's being one of the most technically gifted DJs on the isle of Ireland. Meticulous attention to detail behind a set of turntables has seen Cooney share the booth with formidable techno figures such as Dave Clarke, James Ruskin, UVB, Mark Broom and more. Doug has a number of distinguished international gigs under his belt, with a debut at the fabled Tresor in Berlin, being the highlight. For Doug's next release he features on a colossal VA from Dutch techno connoisseurs, Frenzy. Frenzy welcomes the first Various Artist release on their newborn label, Frenzy Recordings. The VA contains 12 tracks handcrafted by 13 artists, both renowned and upcoming. Frenzy focuses on presenting the modern-day sound with roots of the old school, and that is exactly what this Various Artists stands for. Doug's contribution to the debut VA from Frenzy is an infectious dub influenced techno roller. Like many of Doug's great tracks, it's minimal, funky and effective, breathing the essence of techno. As the loop progresses it becomes more and more infectious. The finer details in the atmosphere and carefully orchestrated switches make this track so special. One of Doug's finest pieces of work in my humble opinion. https://cultkitchen.radio – ambient & experimental music 24/7. Both as a DJ and a producer, Patrick Gräser aka @answercoderequest has honed a hybrid musical approach that stands out in a world of uniform 4/4 techno. Melding pad-driven harmonies, intricate breaks and an industrial sonic palette, Gräser has occupied a unique space within the @ostgutton-official cosmos since debuting on the label in 2012 and becoming a Berghain resident shortly thereafter. His various releases and remixes for Ostgut Ton, MDR, Dolly Deluxe and Monkeytown Records continue to be highly sought after. As a DJ, he has taken his bass- and breaks-heavy techno to clubs and festivals around the globe, while remaining an integral part of the Berlin scene. For our show, he recorded a special set that is changing the mood from the beginning to a climax in the middle with a long outro to the end. This mix is made to connect people in the times of self-isolation and to give everyone a positive mood. If you open your imagination, you can explore the personal feelings of Patrick hidden behind the music. Ambient for him is not only background music but a cure that helps you feel more calm and positive in hard times.
We are happy to announce that @answercoderequest is mixing for us! Enjoy the diverse selection and masterfully detailed mixing by one of the integral artists of the contemporary electronic music scene in Berlin.

With an emphasis on authenticity, the label’s only agenda is to set a limitless creative trajectory for its artists. Hailing from Turin to Taiwan; from Dublin to Bosnia, producers releasing on the Glasgow-born label are handed complete control over their releases, resulting in a sonic output that is truly organic, genre-defying and driven only by sound. Dublin’s RAAB presents the sixth track, Tattooed Marsupial. The producer, who has shared stages with huge names like Dax J and Answer Code Request, this year launched his own imprint ‘RAAB TRAX’ with a mix series under the same moniker. Building over six minutes, Tattooed Marsupial is a sonic journey that only finds reprieve in the deliverance of each ethereal, synth-laden drop, before coming back even faster, harder and darker each time. Marcella is a well-known face when it comes to Munich’s electronic music landscape. With several appearances at MMA (Mixed Munich Arts), Harry Klein or most recently Blitz Club, the twenty-something shared the decks with artists like Answer Code Request, Peter Van Hoesen or Voiski and established herself as a promising talent of the city’s new generation. Marcella convinces with her charismatic interpretation of Techno. Floating melodics, striking deepness, subtile-punching drums, melancholic excursions and uplifting atmospheres are the mainstays of her arresting selections. Together with Drew, Marcella also curates the monthly event series Artefakt with guests like Francois X, Dr. Rubinstein or Etapp Kyle at her hometown Ingolstadt’s scene melting pot Suxul. -- 049: Marcella from Ingolstadt, Germany Marcella @ SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/marcellaofficial Marcella @ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/marcellaofficial
Bomphcast episode 80 is provided to us by Portuguese DJ and producer VIL. I first heard VIL whilst listening to an Answer Code Request podcast. VIL's track Old Turn New from his EP under the same name on Planet Rythmn really stood out to me. After hearing the track, I just had to have VIL on the podcast. The Portuguese artist has a strong focus on groove, which is something I'm heavily attracted to as a listener. VIL combines the sounds of 90's era techno but put through his own contemporary filter. His mix contains classics such asJeff Mills' track 4art, and blends this with tracks of today (in addition to other classic tracks). VIL shows us through his recording that older tracks are still just as relevant today. Personally I think that timelessness is a hallmark of quality techno music. bomphcast.com @vilmusic

Doug Cooney has been one of the driving forces in Irish techno for a number of years now, both his productions and his DJ sets are marvelled around the country and further afield, receiving support from the likes of Bens Sims, Answer Code Request and Jon Hester. With previous releases on the likes of ORBIS, ORGONE, Research and his own RLSD imprint, we're delighted to see Doug's next EP was signed with none other than Bastardo Electrico, one of Irelands longest running labels/club-nights, headed up by Cork techno enthusiast Jamie Behan. Doug's Real//Sound imprint is more than just a label, it's also an independent music school for aspiring DJs and producers in Dublin, hosting workshops and showcases for those involved. We were lucky enough to pick up 'Higher Self' from his forthcoming 'Dark Stream' EP for a premiere. A deep, percussive track that channels the sound of old school techno with metallic riff that twist and turn while still maintaining a modern twist. The EP drops of Sunday, May 6th... U-Khan is an Australian based DJ and co-founder of the party outfit Charades, which, since its inception in 2012, has played host to some of the most influential electronic artists in the world. A selector by nature, his passion in both creating and performing sets is evident to anyone that properly listens, and as a DJ it’s evident that he puts as much effort preparing and curating his sets as he does in front of the decks performing them. To date, his musical prowess has seen him billed on support duties for the likes of Jeff Mills, Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Nina Kraviz, RØDHÂD, Answer Code Request, Function, James Holden, Ø [Phase], & Mr.G. This special Novelcast was recorded live last year at Revolver when U-Khan was tasked with the warm-up set for Ben UFO. With its smooth grooves, broken beats and lush house, this all-vinyl set should satiate the most hardened of chin strokers. @u-khan ==================================================== Upcoming Novel events: Fri, May 10th: smalltown & SASH with Ben Klock, Jennifer Cardini + Mind Against @ Home Nightclub, Sydney www.facebook.com/events/773886359661274/ Sat, May 11th: smalltown with Ben Klock, Jennifer Cardini + Mind Against @ venue TBA, Melbourne www.facebook.com/events/1023165764737629/ ==================================================== Stay in touch: www.facebook.com/weareNovel/

Chris hailing from the north east has been on the DJ circuit since 2006 taking up regular slots at the well establish B.R.A techno nights in his early 20's then leading on to his own brand EDIT then onto a becoming a firm favourite at Birmingham's Eclectricity alongside CLR's Rebekah. EcLectricity gave Chris the chance to be billed for showcases like Cocoon, Desolat and Sci-tec. Stepping into the music scene, Techno was always the sound that stood out for chris, it was the short loops and driving energy that got him hooked. In 2011 Chris joined forces with Adam & Adrian Fairless, and SAMPLE entered Newcastle's strong House & Techno scene and gave it, debut act's like Martinez Brothers, Art Department and Guti to name a few over the years. Since then Chris has established himself alot more within todays music industry securing management from Alchimia Booking agency, Original releases on his own vinyl imprint Tough Luck Records and remix work for Sequential Recordings and Walk & Talk Records. Adam Todd also hailing from North East, only put his first record on the platter only a few years ago and it all came natural from there, the avid vinyl collector thrives on keeping his music knowledge fresh and upto date and pulls inspiration for his mixes and dj sets from the likes producers SHED and Answer Code Request. Adam joined SAMPLE one year in, and help push the brand, and get Digital Newcastle packed out on few occasions over the years !!
