Send a FanMail to the GenX Stories gang via text message! The movies turning 40 in 2025 are aging like fine wine (or like us, depending on the lighting). Between the first Blockbuster store opening to the massive number of films appearing in theatres that year, let's face it - 1985 ruined us for anything else. From The Breakfast Club to Back to the Future to Brazil to Cocoon the whole podcast crew is revisiting the classic 80's films we loved (and duh, still do). Some may call it a cinematic midlife crisis, but we call it awesome. In Stars and Time is a time loop RPG from insertdisc5, that follows a ragtag found-family of adventurers, at the very end of their long quest to defeat The King. You play as Siffrin, the party's rogue, as they try to piece together why they find themselves stuck living out the same day over and over again. The writing is heartfelt and at times heartbreaking, the characters are charming, and the game features a strangely addictive system for turn-based combat. Thank you for tuning in to episode 54!! In this episode, Kate and Emily are joined by special guest Rachel Watts, to talk about this fascinating time loop experience. But before they dive into the game, the three have lots of guinea pig and indie game related topics to discuss! While this was originally posted in the fall of 2019, for the third year in a row I'm reduxing it. It is, again, an appropriate meditaion for this quiet time of year, as the football games are starting to pass us by even if their music is still in the air. The warmth of the summer is still around, sometimes, but mostly it's cooling down, and it's a time for comfort food and old memories and people not seen in a long time. And, certainly, thoughts of mortality , of the time gone and the time left. "Never let a night like tonight go to waste." ==================================================== Considering whether Gen X views of life, death, and immortality were shaped by two mid-80s films: Highlander (1986) and The Lost Boys (1987) Yes yes yes, I said Steward Copeland at about 9:12 and realized just moments ago that I completely meant Douglas Coupland, who wrote Generation X: Tales For an Accelerated Culture in 1991 https://www.coupland.com/books/generation-x-tales-for-an-accelerated-culture And my point there is that in 1987 the Lost Boys was certainly depicting Gen X characters with Gen X actors, but nobody called them Gen X at the time. Interview with the Vampire was published in 1976 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interview_with_the_Vampire Its sequel, The Vampire Lestat, was 1985 The Mystery of Dracula's Castle - a scooby doo mystery in all but name, with inspiration from Christopher Lee's Dracula over and over. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068985/ The Hunger https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085701/ The Lost Boys - straight to the tagline https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093437/taglines Highlander https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091203/ Cocoon https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088933/ Siskel and Ebert - Lost Boys starts at 9:44 - https://siskelebert.org/?p=2948 Highlander is the first one here, about 1:30 - they both disliked it rather a lot https://siskelebert.org/?p=1496 First chapter of The Golden Bough - Frazer calls the King a "murderer" rather than a "killer" so I'll randomly note that A) in the 1536 battler in Highlander, the Macleods are fighting the Frasers and B) "Matador" is literally "killer" in Spanish The Spirit of Christmas, which spawned South Park, references Highlander's repeated line "There Can Be Only One" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0122264/ When talking about Reactives and the Awakening, probably worth looking at this previous entry on my blog https://crisis.generationalize.com/2014/01/reactiveness.html Unrelated but it's a photo series called Lost Boys - millennials back at home after college or high school or whatever they decided they could do. https://www.businessinsider.com/liz-calvi-lost-boys-photo-project-2014-9#calvi-started-with-her-good-group-of-guy-friends-but-eventually-branched-out-to-look-for-more-subjects-in-town-nolan-pictured-here-is-currently-studying-graphics-in-college-and-he-lives-with-his-parents-for-the-summer-2 Here's the archive she set up https://seulementdanslereve.tumblr.com/archive And her home page https://www.lizcalvi.com/commissions "Vampire of the Mists" (1991) was a few years later, so probably influenced by Anne Rice and The Lost Boys and everything. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_of_the_Mists Wikipedia sayeth that Peter Pan first appeared in a novel in 1902, while the play first appeared in 1904. A Halloween Special...Welcome to Word Balloon Theater, where we bring classic radio and record drama back to life — only this time, I'm part of the cast. On this episode, we step into a smoky pool hall, straight out of a 1950s crime picture. I'm your host, John Siuntres, playing opposite one of Hollywood's great voices — Don Ameche. You know Ameche from his Oscar-winning performance in Cocoon, his sharp comic timing in Trading Places, and a career that stretched from golden-age radio to the silver screen. This scene comes from his 1958 Roulette Records album, Co-Star: The Record Acting Game — a clever concept that let fans play a speaking role opposite their favorite stars. In this track, Ameche plays a streetwise hustler working his angles over a crooked game of pool. So chalk up your cue, light a Lucky, and take a seat by the jukebox. You're about to hear a slice of mid-century cool — Don Ameche and John Siuntres in “The Pool Hall.”This… is Word Balloon Theater.

Groovegsus plays only tracks from Maetrik Eric Estornel, under the names MAETRIK, MARIEL ITO, MACEO PLEX, and simply ESTORNEL - has been contributing to his musical world around him since 1993. Always searching for the future of electronic dance, Eric has never let himself be confined by the.. Originally from the USA and now relocated to Valencia Spain, Eric Estornel is making incredible leaps and strides releasing some of the most devastating yet unique music in the industry. His sudonyms Maetrik, Mariel Ito, Plaex, and now Maceo Plex are under great demand for the rich dynamic production and unique blend of techno, house, funk, and electro that only Eric can devise. Perhaps it's because of Eric's clear Cuban roots or his years in the game, but without a doubt 2010 was an incredible year and only more amazing things are expected of his truly unarguable talent. In 2010 alone Eric released under the names Maetrik and Maceo Plex remarkable releases on labels like Cocoon, Audiomatique, Crosstown Rebels, Dumb Unit, and Mothership. Not to mention a slew of amazing remixes for the likes of Morcheeba, John Digweed, Robert Babicz, Max Cooper, Martin Eyerer, and many more. Now in 2011 Eric after the release of hugely successful "Vibe Your Love" on the very respected Crosstown Rebels, as Maceo Plex, Eric will be releasing in Febuary his full lenth album aptly titled "Life Index". It will be the start of a great career on Crosstown Rebels and will be huge departure from his typical futuristic tech sound as Maetrik. Without leaving the Maetrik brand behind, Eric will also releasing a hot new ep on Guy Gerber's Supplement Facts imprint, and a new ep on Cocoon. Also for 2011 remixes of Mandy & Booka Shade, Timo Maas, Adam Beyer, among others already confirmed. 11 years since his first release on the respected Immigrant Records back in 2000, Eric is still holding strong to his quest for the future of dance. Whether working on his "other worldly" compositions as Maetrik, his alien sounding electro as Mariel Ito, or his innovative dark house music as Maceo Plex, Eric is always putting his blood sweat and tears into everything he does. Putting aside trends and crushing genre boundaries, no one can argue that Eric has always stayed true to what comes from his heart or his sometimes choatic mind.

Denial isn't just pretending things are fine — it's the story your nervous system tells so you don't have to feel the full truth yet. In this episode, we talk about how denial shows up in subtle ways: ...staying busy so you don't feel, ...justifying behavior that hurts you, ...and, convincing yourself “it's not that bad.” And why breaking through it isn't about shame — it's about safety. This is one of those episodes that's worth hearing again, because the moment denial cracks, real healing begins.
Fred is still plunging into Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, Jake takes on Ghost of Yotei, and we share some awesome listener feedback about self-care and making sure we're not burning the candle at both ends. Thanks to everyone for understanding our short break! In news, Battlefield 6 physical copies have leaked ahead of release, which is surprising for two reasons — hardly anyone buys physical games anymore, and most don't actually contain the game on the disc. This one does, though online is still required even for the campaign. October's PS Plus Essential lineup features Alan Wake 2, Goat Simulator 3, and Cocoon. Rumors are swirling that Xbox might not release a next-gen console at all, which could leave PlayStation unmatched when the PS6 eventually launches. There's also talk of a new DualSense controller with a removable battery, and reports that EA may be going private amid a potential $50 billion buyout. Short, spooky, and full of PlayStation talk. In this juicy AF episode, I take you behind the veil of the last two years—my cocoon years—where I stepped away from chasing “success” and chose instead to face the deepest parts of myself. This is the story of how shadow work, inner healing, and anchoring into my divine feminine became the exact catalysts for the exponential expansion now unfolding in my life and business. ✨ Here's what we dive into: My cocoon season: why I paused business growth to do the deepest inner work of my life. Shadow alchemy: how meeting the parts of me I once judged, feared, or abandoned became my greatest source of power. Balancing the masculine + feminine: learning that presence, embodiment, and being in the feminine are equally as valuable as taking action. The reflection principle: using triggers, mirrors, and relationships as portals for growth. Becoming unf*ckwithable: anchoring so deeply in your truth that nothing outside of you can pull you off center. Quantum leaps + miracles: how to alchemize pain into power and rise like the phoenix you are. This episode is a powerful initiation into what I call Inner Sacred Alchemy—the divine union of masculine and feminine within you that unlocks your highest potential and timeline. 00:00 – Emerging from the Cocoon 02:26 – The Power of Shadow Alchemy 04:51 – Healing the Feminine & Balancing Energies 08:59 – Inner Sacred Union: Masculine + Feminine 10:54 – The Reflection Principle 13:15 – Triggers as Portals for Healing 15:43 – Reclaiming Your Power 17:19 – Becoming Unf*ckwithable 19:20 – Anchoring in Truth & Alignment 19:54 – Quantum Leaps and Phoenix Rising Kailah x Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thekailahlee/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KailahLeeKing/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thekailahlee Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@thekailahlee ✨ FREE 13 minute Wealth Meditation Activation coded with 5D frequencies of limitless potential, abundance, wealth, possibility, and manifestation to become an energetic match for your quantum leap. https://www.kailahlee.co/offers/PHHAWmEJ/checkout

Arguably the number one thing most people ask Pastor John is “How do I find God’s will for my life?” Religion has made the will of God some great mystery — like it’s something to search for our whole lives. We expect to get a job, hold an office, start a ministry or receive a title. We are looking for the answer in a destination, but what if it’s simpler than that? The core verse for this series is Romans 12:2, which contains two different sentences. The first says that we’re transformed by the renovation of our thoughts; the second says that we will learn to know the will of God once our mind is renovated. This week, we’re continuing (and possibly concluding) our Transformation Series with a message about God’s will.

We are in the middle of a series called Transformation. Jesus did not go through all that He went through on this earth, so we could stay exactly the same as we were before He found us. Jesus paid the price not just for us to be saved but for us to be changed. So far, we have talked about the dual realities of salvation — the spiritual reality and visible reality — and the need to surrender ourselves to the process of transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. This week, we’re continuing the conversation and focusing on what it means to start with love. Maybe you’re beginning to believe there is a sliver of hope, but you don’t know where to start. Start where Jesus did with Peter: start with love. Forget about the habits you still have in your life, the mistakes and the failures. Repent and ask God for forgiveness, but when it comes to moving forward and being changed, we need to learn the value of starting with love.
We started a new series last week called Transformation, which explores how the gospel of Jesus is one focused on transformation. Everyone who has been saved and surrendered their lives to Him has experienced this: from death to life, lost to found, darkness to light. What we learned in the first part of our series is that too many churches have offered salvation without transformation, but it is God’s will that His followers start to develop and express the character and nature of Christ. Salvation isn’t the end; it’s the beginning. We also talked about the need for sanctification, where what has happened on the inside begins to be expressed on the outside. Romans 12 says to be transformed instead of conformed, and that word is where we get our word “metamorphosis,” which is used to describe the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. This week, we’re diving deeper into this idea. If we want Jesus to transform us into new creations, we must surrender to the cocoon — where sanctification occurs — and trust in Him as the Power of the process.
Send Jay comments via textThe transition to an empty nest can feel like an identity crisis for parents who have dedicated years to raising children. The question then arises: what's next? How do you find purpose, passion, and fulfillment in this new phase of life?In this inspiring episode, Dr. Janelle explains the two stages of human development: the unconscious “boot camp” where we seek external validation, and the conscious “creating heaven on earth” phase, where we connect deeply with our hearts. She offers practical, powerful strategies to overcome subconscious blocks—like her insight: "If you challenge yourself, you'll attract support. If you stay in your comfort zone, you'll attract challenges." For those asking, “What now?” after children leave home, she advocates connecting with your heart through gratitude and self-love to discover inspiration for your next steps. Can we talk about how great Steve Guttenberg is? He is obviously a terrific actor and has been working longer than I've been alive, but he is also just such a source of positivity— I could have kept talking to him for hours! You of course know Steve Guttenberg from iconic roles like Michael Kellam in Three Men and a Baby, Carey Mahoney in Police Academy or Jack Bonner in Cocoon. Since that time he has really matured into a character actor and he continues to act in TV and movies all the time. We talk about how he has gone about building a career that lasts and how he surrounds himself with grounded, positive people. We also have a moving conversation about his book Time to Thank, in which he writes about his experience being a caregiver for his father toward the end of his life. If you are in need of a pump-up speech or a dose of happy positivity, this is the episode for you! Be sure to stick around after our conversation for the Hindsight where my producer Jeph and I talk about all things Guttenberg, including the absolutely insane story he tells about sneaking onto the Paramount lot when he was a teenager.
