Taylor Fox (a.k.a. "TayFo") is a co-founder and morning host on Inhailer, a streaming/HD radio station that plays indie rock and helps promote local bands and the music scene in Cincinnati. The impetus for the station came from losing other local stations that played cool music, first 97X and WVXU's Nightwaves, and later WNKU. Taylor tells us about how the station started, how he discovered 97X, and how the 97X message boards helped him connect with kindred spirits.
Back in 1985, Northern Kentucky University launched WNKU - a radio station that offered listeners an eclectic blend of alternative, folk rock, classic rock, bluegrass, and music by local artists. In 2011, the station expanded it's footprint in the tri-state by acquiring two additional frequencies. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, the station was sold in 2017. This week on RITY, I'll be spotlighting songs that WNKU played during their final day on air back on September 28th, 2017.
Aaron Sharpe never listened to 97X... but he wore many hats at WNKU-FM, a station that picked up the mantle from 97X/woxy.com in being a free-spirited, adventurous, community-oriented radio station that introduced many to music they couldn't hear elsewhere -- including plenty of local artists. Unfortunately, WNKU suffered a similar fate to 97X, signing off for good in September of 2017. In this episode, Aaron talks about how he got involved at WNKU-FM, the bittersweet ending, and what he's up to now.

Her voice is familiar to longtime listeners of WEBN or WNKU, and for many, was the first female rock jock most locals ever heard. She’s The Real Mary Peale and she’s with her former co-worker, Elaine Diehl, to talk about her long career and share some fun anecdotes.
97X Matt Sledge worked at WOXY, 97X from the early ‘90s until the station was sold in 2004. He stayed on for a year with the new owners before, eventually winding up at WNKU, where history pretty much repeated itself. Matt takes us through 97X's history, remembers some of his talented coworkers, talks about working at WNKU, and discusses the state of radio and music today. Dan "Danny Crash" Reed is the self-described "Forrest Gump" of the music business. He was a young DJ at 97X when it changed formats in 1983, and later became program director (while also playing in local bands). After leaving 97X, Dan worked at Bogart's, WNKU, WFPK (Louisville) and is now the afternoon host/music director at WXPN in Philadelphia and talent manager for the syndicated World Cafe program. He has 101 stories about the old days - which is why we had to make his interview a two-parter. You can follow Dan on Twitter: @WXPNDanReed and Instagram: WXPNDANREED
Bockfest organizer Aaron Sharpe joins That's So Cincinnati this week to talk about a soooooooooo Cincinnati event. From the goats to the Sausage Queen contest, Sharpe tells us all about the annual Over-the-Rhine bock beer celebration. Sharpe also offers his unique perspective on Cincinnati. The former WNKU personality now owns Lucius Q barbecue restaurant in the up-and-coming Pendleton neighborhood. He also is the long-time disc jockey at Great American Ball Park, and shares some fun stories about Reds players' walk-up music. In the opening segment, That's So Cincinnati's Paul Dehner Jr. and Jason Williams discuss the issues surrounding how City Hall is doing big development projects. With all the drama surrounding the soccer stadium and Children's Hospital expansion, it begs the questions: Who's going to step up and lead the effort to try to avoid all the controversies on projects moving forward?
I have known Aaron for a few years now. I got to know him at WNKU where he worked for many years until its untimely sign-off in 2017. I love reminding him about my appearance Movers, Shakers, & Tastemakers when I played Taylor Swift. So what happens when a guy who loves food but really […] The post Kitchen Convos Podcast Ep. 48: Aaron Sharpe appeared first on Rachel DesRochers.
In a new episode of our CM Conversations series, we chat with Coran Stetter, creator and director of INHAILER, an online radio station. Stetter started INHAILER last year after the WNKU sale to fill the need for curated, independent, community radio that highlights local artists. He talks about being a musician in the Cincinnati scene, what it takes to start and staff a streaming radio platform, and the strange, hallucinogenic journey it took to get there.
