In this episode of the Financial Freedom with Real Estate Investing podcast, I sit down with two of our Deal Maker Mentoring students — Ryan Kindred and Russell Cannon — who broke free from the grind and did something most people only talk about: they bought a 240-unit self-storage facility and raised $1.9 million to do it.Ryan and Russ didn't grow up in real estate. They weren't born entrepreneurs. But they took action, surrounded themselves with the right people, and now they're building a portfolio that's changing their lives forever.Whether you're a high-income earner ready to pivot, or a burned-out investor trying to scale, this episode is packed with real talk, tactical steps, and one heck of a comeback story.Key TakeawaysFrom the Corporate Grind to Full-Time InvestorsRyan was managing $200M in power systems. Russ ran $100M+ construction projects. Both felt stuck. They knew their time wasn't really theirs, and they were done trading hours for dollars. This is how they made the leap — while still working full-time — and never looked back.Crushing Limiting Beliefs That Keep Most People on the Sidelines“I don't have the money.” “I've never done this before.” “Who's gonna invest with me?” Sound familiar?Ryan & Russ had every reason to stay in their comfort zone — but they didn't.You'll hear exactly what shifted their mindset and how you can do the same.Behind the Scenes of Their $1.9M Raise on a 240-Unit DealHow they found this off-market self-storage opportunityStep-by-step of how they raised $1.9M in equity — without a big investor listThe six-figure acquisition fee they earned and how they set themselves up for long-term cash flowWhy Mentorship and Community Made All the DifferenceThe moment they realized they couldn't do it aloneHow they leveraged our team, the community, and deal support to get across the finish lineWhat actually moves the needle when you're doing your first commercial dealWhat's Next: Scaling Up & Building a Real Estate BusinessRyan and Russ aren't stopping at one deal — they're already teeing up the nextTheir 3-5 year vision: more deals, more cash flow, and total lifestyle freedomHow they're using this deal as a launchpad to financial freedomConnect with Ryan and RussellLinkedIn - Ryan KindredLinkedIn - Russell CannonSable Capital WebsiteConnect with MichaelFacebookInstagramYouTubeTikTokResourcesTheFreedomPodcast.com Access the #1 FREE Apartment Investing Course

Her recent book, Kindred Creation, is a call and response to dream and design better worlds rooted in African lifeways: a path to Black freedom, a love letter to Black futures, and a blueprint to intergenerational Black joy and dignity—all (and always) on Black terms. * In this episode, Aida is joined by CIIS Director of the Center for Black & Indigenous Praxis Preston Vargas for a powerful conversation exploring African epistemologies and recalling the dignity and distinction of the African way of life. Aida shares her philosophical framework: remember, refuse, and reclaim as a vital guide for birthing new worlds and reclaiming land, language, lifestyle, and labor. * This episode was recorded during a live online event on February 19th, 2025. Max Giammario "We're not just building an assistant—we're creating artificial life that you actually want to talk to." — Max Giammario, CEO, Kindred Labs In one of the most thought-provoking episodes of Technology Reseller News, publisher Doug Green sat down with Max Giammario, CEO of Kindred Labs, to discuss a new frontier in AI: emotionally intelligent, pop-culture-powered digital companions. Forget impersonal chatbots or disjointed AI assistants. Kindred Labs is blending beloved characters like Hello Kitty, Teletubbies, and Pudgy Penguins with advanced agentic AI to create immersive, emotionally resonant digital experiences. The goal? A future where your most trusted companion might be a personality you already know and love. Artificial Life Meets Emotional Intelligence Giammario's research centers on artificial life and emotional connection. Kindred is the result of that work, delivering companions that don't just complete tasks—they live across your devices, follow your routines, and grow with you over time. "Imagine a character like Hello Kitty or a K-pop idol expressed as your AI assistant," said Giammario. "It's Clippy reimagined for the AI era, but now it's someone you love waking you up, organizing your day, tracking your portfolio, and cheering you on during your workout." That vision isn't hypothetical. Kindred already has over 100,000 active users, and many of them spend more than six hours a day interacting with their AI companions. These are cross-platform personalities, jumping from mobile to laptop to smartwatch, offering contextually relevant help with a smile, a joke, or a familiar catchphrase. Trust, Familiarity, and Emotional Loyalty One of Kindred's key innovations is in overcoming what Giammario calls the "AI trust gap." "Most people are hesitant to allow AI that level of access to their life. But when it comes wrapped in a character you know—one you already trust—you drop your guard. That's the magic." Kindred isn't just function-first. In fact, its entire model is based on emotional connection. Users don't just use Kindred because it works. They use it because they love the character. "If we just built a better assistant, we'd be in a race to the bottom," Giammario explained. "But if you love your Bugs Bunny, you'll stick with it. That loyalty is what lets us deliver more functionality, not the other way around." A Single Interface Across Everything The implications for enterprise and commercial applications are vast. Instead of bouncing between disconnected bots, imagine a single consistent AI companion interface across every website and interaction. "Chatbots are fragmented," said Giammario. "But your Kindred character can follow you across every business, every device, and every platform—always learning, always adapting." In the workplace, that might look like a familiar avatar giving you a morning briefing, syncing your calendar, prompting reminders, and surfacing insights from your CRM. In retail, it could mean brand mascots that act as informed, AI-powered shopping concierges. From Fiction to Reality Giammario admits that this shift can feel surreal—even science fiction. But it's already happening. "We're crossing a line from tools into relationships," said Green. "From functionality into feeling." And it's not just about novelty. The mental health benefits, the engagement rates, and the potential for radically new forms of interaction are all on the table. Learn More Visit KindredLabs.ai to meet your next digital companion, explore the white paper, or join the community on Discord. You can also follow Max Giammario on X and Kindred at @kindred_ai. Kindred is turning the characters you grew up with into the digital friends you take into the future. The question now is: Are you ready to meet your AI best friend?

Originally released August 15, 2023. New Kindred episodes will drop starting in April 2025.In this week's episode, we speak with Dr. Mathias Osvath, Cognitive Zoologist at Lund University about all things corvids and specifically the raven. We've known how smart these birds are but, um, did not realize HOW smart! You will never look at a crow, magpie, jay, nutcracker, jackdaw, rook, or raven (all corvids) the same after listening to this conversation. Thank you to Dr. Osvath for taking a super brainy subject and breaking it down for us on Kindred so that we can understand how and why corvids are so intelligent. And the part where he talks about a baby raven practicing their little raven croak in a corner by themselves?….Unbearably cute. Plus many more incredible anecdotes.Lots of Love.Show Notes:Deep Time CognitionDr. Mathias Osvath
Muhammad Ali is widely recognized as one of the greatest athletes of all-time and one of the most important figures of the 20th century. In addition to his long and celebrated career as a boxer and three-time heavyweight champion of the world, Ali changed the conversation about race, religion, and politics in America. Ali's refusal to be inducted into the U.S. military during the Vietnam War on religious grounds—a profound act of resistance that resulted not only in Ali's three-plus-year exile from professional boxing, but also a criminal conviction and five year-prison sentence that Ali almost had to serve until it was reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court—represented a pivotal moment of the 1960s. Ali has been the subject of numerous books and documentary films, including the Oscar-winning When We Were Kings (1996) and The Trials of Muhammad Ali (2013). He is also the subject of the 2001 Hollywood biopic, Ali (co-written and directed by Michael Mann and starring Will Smith as Ali), which focuses on the ten-year period from Ali's capture of the heavyweight crown from Sonny Liston in 1964 to Ali's fight against George Foreman in Zaire in 1974 (the famed “Rumble in the Jungle”). Once a sharply polarizing figure, Ali became one of the most celebrated and eulogized individuals in America, whose rich, if not incomparable, legacy reverberates around the world today. The organization's goal is to "equip young people with the civic skills necessary to navigate a divided country and become effective leaders," and Raj's first-hand experience in the corporate and non-profit world is a case study for productive engagement. As he works with leaders and educators across the country, Raj emphasizes the importance of developing your own skill of discernment, and not assigning equal value to every piece of information you come across. A clever mix of stakes material and spiritual? A return to Lothal, only to find it terribly transformed under the industrial violence of the Empire? A series of episodes where Ezra and Sabine really click as complementary characters? Oh, we are so back. Send Mo a text about this episode!I met Donna when Kindred first opened its doors a few years ago- and I was honored to have the opportunity to teach a class in her space a few weeks ago. Kindred is ALSO the location for my upcoming retreat: Step Into Your Power in June 2025!I'm having Donna on the podcast because I love the community and space she is creating with intention. Her journey from being a teacher to starting her own business and having a studio is inspiring. It takes courage to follow your heart and take these risks. In this episode we talk about:-Her journey before starting the studio-What her spiritual awakening entailed and some of the experiences she was having that led her to her first Reiki session-A few of the biggest lessons shes had since started Kindred-The amazing array of offerings at Kindred-The non profit she's creating with a friend that will bring scholarship opportunities for people of color and the LGBTQ+ communityThe 411 on Donna:For as long as I can remember, I have always found helping others to be a rewarding experience. Early on, I felt the desire to be of service to others and discovered a joy, love, and ability to work with children. It was only natural to choose teaching as my lifelong career. I was a school teacher for 15+ years. Then, in the middle of life as a school teacher and married with 2 teenagers, I experienced a Spiritual Awakening. I realized I was denying a part of myself that I had been repressing since childhood as well as the understanding that I had a lot of healing to do. Early on in my awakening, I was drawn to working with energy and felt an additional calling, to assist in the healing of others. I made the decision to resign from teaching to pursue my healing practice full time and to eventually expand my private practice into Kindred Healing Space. My goal with Kindred Healing Space is to create a healing and supportive community. I am a Reiki Master Teacher, Oracle Card Reader, Intuitive, Sound Bath Practitioner, and owner of Kindred Healing Space.Go follow Donna on Instagram and Facebook: IG: @donna.flows.reiki and @kindredhealingspaceFB: @kindredhealingspace Her website:https://www.kindredhealingspace.com/ and https://www.donnaflowsreiki.com/Do you have follow up questions? Zaclre from the Mooglecast in the Trophy Talk Network joins us for a journey to AR-Y26, a new planet that the Kindred Corporation has sent us to in order to assess if it is viable for colonization. Unfortunately they didn't plan a return trip for us, so it's up to the player to find a way home while exploring and cataloging everything on the planet. It's still nice though that Kindred sent us a lot of entertaining commercials for us to watch. We share stories about our favorite animals and antics while exploring, reminisce about the few times we tried to squad up together, and talk about our successes in speedrunning this hilarious game. Zac and I also both point out that we view this game through different histories and recognize different inspirations that went into it. Because of that, we each bring our own recommendations for other games like it, but agree that you should take a Journey to the Savage Planet and we hope you enjoy the trip with us.

What is chakra counseling? Well, we are going to find out in this interview with Mikinzie Schilling, owner and CEO of Kindred Heart in Superior Wisconsin. In my personal opinion, the highlight of this time together is a heart chakra exercise. I can't wait for you to experience that. For those of you familiar with my flight deck oracle cards, you'll be interested in hearing how Mikinzie incorporates my cards into her healing sessions. Mikinzie is an astrologer, tarot reader, Holistic Therapist, Healing Touch practitioner, business owner and chakra counselor. Her business motto is “to reach and find the Kindred connection within”! This was inspired by the “Creation of Adam”, an art piece by Michelangelo that you might be familiar with. Let's give a warm welcome to Mikinzie as she arrives here in “Call IT in With Dar “! Our final episode of the season was supposed to air earlier this month, but due to the quickly changing political landscape, we couldn't release it as planned. It was a tough call, but the right one. New episodes will drop in April, and we can't wait to be back. Lots of love! ❤️
