This week on Inside the Musician's Brain, Chris is joined by guitar master Bryan Sutton. For years, Bryan has been one of the most sought after session musicians in Nashville, appearing on albums by Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Béla Fleck and many more. Is this podcast music history or comedy? While this episode defies categorization there is no denying that it is the best podcast about Taylor Swift and the 99th greatest album of all time, Red. However, before we share our musical snippets we take a voicemail about our obsession with Beck and get caught in a hot box discussing road trips, driving in Europe, and the best Paul McCartney songs. We also become the best food and drink podcast when we talk about the best kind of whitefish, beer sampling etiquette, and celebrity chefs (including tortilla salesmen at beer gardens).. Then at (49:00), we treat you to a musical logic treatise of sorts when we talk about Taylor Swift's fourth studio album, Red. We discuss Swift's reverse Hootie transition from, country to pop, hidden messages in the album liner notes, and the suitcase theory. Dr. Instrument also goes through a list of the best ukulele songs. Next week the podcast is rolling into Nazareth and putting the load right on you when we become the best podcast about the Band and their debut studio album, Music from the Big Pink.

On today's episode, McKay explores the concept of happiness, including where to find it, and how to hold on to it. To intoduce this rather expansive topic, he opens up the show by reviewing Elizabeth Smart's story - her brutal experience getting kidnapped and raped, and her journey toward happiness. McKay says that, while it's true that happiness is partially dependent upon circumstance, we can also attribute a large portion of our happiness to dedication, the people who raised us, and those with whom we surround ourselves. He goes on to introduce more conditions for happiness, noting that, when we have admirable intentions and goals in our lives, for example, we find more daily satisfaction. Even the love we share and receive plays a large role in how content we are. McKay draws this highly positive podcast episode to a close by reminding the audience to find joy in the little things, and by offering this invaluable advice: “Stay poised in tough situations—good will prevail. Exercise. Serve. Have Faith. Be humble and watch…. You will be happy.” The Finer Details of This Episode: Elizabeth Smart's journey Happiness dependent on circumstances Set happiness Taylor Swift's NYU speech The value of intention Love and happiness Darren's happy landing Focusing on the little things Quotes: "As the days passed, she started to realize that this may be her new way of life.” “He has taken 9 months of your life that you will never get back, but the best punishment you could ever give him is to be happy.” “Happiness is a choice.” “Married people report a slightly higher happiness level than single people. In research, 25 percent of married people and 21 percent of single people say they are very happy. In short, circumstances such as wealth or marital status only impact our happiness in small ways.” “We get more from our parents than eye color and facial features. We may get a large set of our happiness from them or from others. How we grew up or who we have interacted with throughout our life, does dictate our level of happiness.” “People with aspirations have higher energy levels, stronger immune systems, stronger mental health and feelings of self-confidence and self-esteem.” “I agree with the researchers. I believe happy people see the best, even in the toughest situations. They are empowered with poise and optimism.” “Remember, that only 10 percent of happiness depends on circumstances. Fifty percent is heritable. So be a person who sees, talks about and shares the good in life. You can pass on the habit of happiness to others and be a blessing to them.” “Focusing on the small things in life that bring you joy.” Links: https://www.mckaychristensen.org/ (Open Your Eyes with McKay Christensen)

Sadie Sink's star is soaring. And it has been ever since Stranger Things 2 hit Netflix in October of 2017. But since, Sink has made the absolute most of every single opportunity to come her way, proving her boundless range and astronomical promise in this industry. Not only is she a sheer force in her first lead role in a feature film playing Ziggy in Fear Street 1978, but she also shines in Taylor Swift's All Too Well: The Short Film, will star in Darren Aronofsky's next film, The Whale, and, to top it all off, she delivers what I truly believe is an Emmy nomination-worthy performance in Stranger Things 4. Sink is a true standout in front of the camera, so it's shocking to think that there was a time when Sink envisioned her career being solely on the stage, not on screen. While we wait for Strange Things 4 Volume 2 to drop on Netflix on July 1st, Sink joined me for an episode of Collider Ladies Night to recap her journey from her earliest inspirations to Stranger Things megastar. Hear all about her time working on the stage, how she made the pivot to screen, what she imagines Max went through between Stranger Things 3 and 4, what it was like filming "Dear Billy," and so much more in this interview! It's Groundhog Day here on the Cadillac Jack: My Second Act podcast. Are you someone who is regularly late, or early? Donna has been late, lately, and it's getting old early. Maybe? I don't know. Groundhog. We talk panhandling, Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift at the beginning of the show. What's the commonality with all three? Street weeks. Then we cover the pigs. Piggies, to be exact. Where did the saying come from? Caddy just found out and, well, he went all the way home. Caddy has some bedside manner. Donna thinks he could have a lot more. So about 17 minutes into the show, they roleplay. The last bit of the show is spent talking about dreams. Where do they come from, what do they mean and how much does it have to do with your tallywhacker. Hit some pod peeps on the way out and that's the show. How often sleep on your stomach? Let us know. 7704646024.
