Episode 17 of the Joe and Mike vs. the Future podcast. In this podcast, we discussed the news that the first genetically engineered humans were born in China. More specifically, CRISPR was used to remove the CCR5 gene in the embryos in order to reduce their chance of contracting HIV. Episode 16 of the Joe and Mike vs. the Future podcast. In this podcast, we review and discuss the movies Ex Machina (2014) and Her (2013). Each of these movies focuses on the relationship between Humans and AI systems.  Unfortunately, during the recording of the podcast, Joe's microphone failed, and we only obtained audio from Mike's microphone. Rather than discussing an issue of future science or technology, we discuss Mike's percieved libertarianism.  Although not directly in the typical podcast theme, we think it's important to discuss the lense through which we judge how future technologies will and should impact society.

In this epsidode, we interview Dr. Jason Held, the CEO of Saber Atronautics, an Austrialian space company focused on mission software and operations.  In the interview, we discuss Jason's background and his company, the current state of commercial space in Australia and the rest of the world, the formation of the Australian Space Agency, and the future of the satellite and launch markets.

In this podcast, we discuss the technology and ethical implications of human genetic engineering.  One interesting aspect of this issue that we didn't get into during this conversation is that the hypotheical scenario we discuss of a totalitarian regime wanting to engineer its population to ensure the regimes continuation is more likely than we first thought.
