Atlantic Technological University (ATU) and residential care group Riada Care Ltd. have unveiled an innovative new project that uses Virtual Reality (VR) technology to enhance the quality of life for elderly residents. Supported by the Data2Sustain European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH), the initiative introduces 360° VR videos to convalescent care homes, offering residents immersive experiences that rekindle outdoor memories and foster deeper emotional connections. The program allows family members, carers, and staff to create personalised 360° videos, which residents can enjoy using Meta Quest 3 VR headsets. These immersive experiences bring cherished moments to life, such as walking along Donegal beaches, revisiting family farms, or exploring local landmarks. "Over a 12-week pilot, we introduced 360° immersive videos to residents at our Hillcrest and Archview care homes in Letterkenny, designed to evoke nostalgia and bring joy to the residents," said Luke Gavigan, Director of Riada Care Ltd. "This initiative combines two key elements: creating immersive content that brings cherished outdoor experiences into the facility and empowering staff and family members with the tools and training to create personalised VR content for their loved ones." Project Lead Dr. William Farrelly of WiSAR Lab, ATU Donegal, part of the Data2Sustain network, explained the transformative potential of this collaboration: "This project demonstrates how technology can foster connection and joy among residents who may otherwise feel isolated. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from the initial trials highlights the transformative potential of VR in elder care." Residents participating in the pilot reported significant emotional uplift, enhanced engagement, and reduced feelings of isolation. To ensure the program's sustainability, the team has developed a comprehensive training program with instructional videos helping guide carers and family members in creating and editing 360° video content. Care home staff have also been equipped with Meta Quest 3 VR headsets, Insta360 cameras, and editing software, enabling them to continually expand the VR content library. Dr. Stephen Seawright, Technology Gateway Manager at ATU Donegal, emphasised the importance of collaboration in the project's success: "The project exemplifies a successful collaboration between academia, healthcare providers, and funding bodies like Data2Sustain EDIH. It underscores the potential of emerging technologies to address complex challenges in healthcare and improve quality of life for many." Looking ahead, the team plans to expand the technology to additional Riada Care facilities across Ireland, conduct further research into its long-term benefits, and explore new applications of VR, including guided relaxation and physical therapy. "Immersive technologies have the potential to transform physical and psychological outcomes in social care settings," said Dr. Farrelly. "By integrating this technology into everyday care, we're enriching residents' lives while also empowering carers to offer innovative, personalised support."

Welcome to another episode of The Coral Capital Podcast, a show where we bring on guests from tech, business, politics, and culture to talk about all things Japan.VTubing, or virtual YouTubing, is a form of digital content creation where anime-style avatars—powered by motion capture and voice acting—engage audiences through livestreams, gaming, and interactive entertainment. This industry has rapidly evolved from niche internet culture into a multi-billion-dollar market, blurring the lines between content creation, technology, and intellectual property (IP).In this episode, we are joined by Sasuke Shimomura, Chief Strategy Officer of Brave group, one of Japan's leading VTuber production companies. Brave group is a global digital IP company which mainly consists of 3 business segments: IP Production which mainly focuses on VTuber production, IP Platform and IP Solution which focus on distribution and enhancing the monetization of digital IP. After graduating from Waseda University, Sasuke started his career in the Equity Research Division at Goldman Sachs Japan. He then played a key role in corporate planning, creator strategy, and M&A at UUUM Co., Ltd., Japan's largest influencer management company. He was also CFO of SoVa Inc., where he oversaw fundraising efforts from the company's founding. Sasuke later joined Eight Roads Ventures Japan, focusing on investments in Entertainment and Media, while also conducting M&A exits for several portfolio companies. In June 2024, he joined Brave group as CSO.In today's episode we break down everything about the VTuber industryThe VTubing movement began in 2016 with the debut of Kizuna AI, widely considered the industry's first VTuber.By 2018, major production companies like Anycolor (Nijisanji) and Cover (Hololive) emerged, professionalizing the space and scaling VTuber operations.Different styles of VTubing: 2D VTubing: An animated illustration that syncs with the talent's real-time movements.3D VTubing: Uses motion capture technology to replicate full-body movement in a 3D virtual space.2.5D Hybrid: A mix of virtual and real-world performances, where VTubers also appear in person The VTuber industry operates much like traditional entertainment businesses, with diverse monetization strategies: live streaming revenue, merchandising, advertisement tie-ups, direct fan monetization (ex. fan clubs), and IP expansion (ex. anime adaptations). While similar to a typical talent agency like K-pop's YG group, VTubing agencies like Brave group hold the rights to all of their IP, allowing for greater revenue diversification.VTubing is a rapidly growing market with the potential to reach anime's $20B+ industry size.Emerging technologies like AI, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Blockchain will diversify and expand revenue opportunities.AI is already being leveraged in processes like illustration, but larger shifts such as 24/7 AI streaming or “AITuber” are likely coming in the near future.Being a globally successful IP powerhouse requires 1. A deep understanding of content 2. The right technology 3. A cultural understanding to bring the content to the global market 4. A strong financial strategy to execute.-----For founder's building Japan's next legendary companies, reach out to us here: https://coralcap.co/contact-startups/If you're interested in joining a Coral startup join our talent network here: https://coralcap.co/coral-careers/

The other morning, I woke up thinking about our pastor chats on the Gospel of Luke and how it presents us with the reality of Jesus. We live in a day of “Virtual Reality” and “AI”. Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer-generated environment with scenes and objects that appear to be real, making the user feel they are immersed in their surroundings. You are deceived into thinking something is real when it really doesn't even exist at all. Artificial intelligence (AI) is now commonplace and is even doing our thinking for us and replacing human creativity and intelligence. It also can deceive us into an artificial world where now we don't know what is real and what is true! Too many people today, including Christians, have never experienced Jesus as a very real person, living in a very real time, in a very real geographical location! He is just a story in a book for us to believe or not to believe. Luke's purpose and my purpose in studying the Gospel of Luke is to encourage us to experience Jesus as a very real person who loves us, and is present tense available to save us, and help us along life's way! Another reason I want to take the time to study the Gospel of Luke is to focus on some “Good News”. The very word “Gospel” means Good News. Today whenever we turn on the news it is anything but good. All you hear and see is a world full of confusion, chaos, conflict, violence, strife, and war. Most of our conversations with co-workers, family and friends are about issues, problems, difficulties, about finances, health, and family problems. Well, the Bible is the “Good News” Book!!!! That's what the Gospel of Luke is about, and that Good News is about the person of Jesus Christ! Luke makes sure that his researched account of Jesus' birth, life, and death is both historically and spiritual accurate! All the Gospels present Jesus Christ is their own unique way for a specific purpose. The Gospel of Matthew, was written primarily to the Jewish world, emphasizes that Jesus was born the Messiah and presents the Lord Jesus as the King of the Jews, and Redeemer. Numerous times Matthew repeats, “And it was fulfilled…”. Proving that Jesus fulfilled all the Old Testament prophecies concerning His birth, His life, His death, and His resurrection. The Gospel of Mark, written primarily for the Roman world, emphasizes that Jesus was the Suffering Servant, prophesied in Isaiah 53. Jesus humbled Himself and came to do the will of His Father and to reveal the amazing love and grace of God. This is clearly seen in Jesus' own words, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). There is no genealogy recorded in the Gospel of Mark because a servant's genealogy was insignificant and not worthy of being recorded. The Gospel of Luke, written primarily for the Greek world, presents Jesus as the Son of Man. Luke focuses on Jesus' humanity and beautifully details the announcement of His incarnation and His birth (Luke 1 and 2). Luke is the only Gospel that gives a glimpse into Jesus' childhood years (Luke 2:40, Luke 2:42-43). The genealogy in Luke begins with Joseph, as the husband of Mary, and traces Jesus' ancestry through Mary's bloodline, from the line of David (making Jesus the biological heir to the throne of David), and all the way back to the first man, Adam. Jesus is presented to the Greeks as the “Perfect Man”. The Gospel of John is the universal Gospel written for the whole world. John presents Jesus as the Son of God. There is no genealogy mentioned because Jesus is God from the beginning! (John 1:1-4). John shared the miracles that Jesus did proving that Jesus is the Son of God so that we would believe and have life in His name (John 20:30-31). It is my prayer that as we study Luke, we will all embrace the reality of Jesus Christ in every aspect of our daily lives! How real is Jesus to you? God bless!

Alexander Aleem, MD, FAOA, interviewed Dr. Danny P. Goel, CEO of PrecisionOS, who currently practices in Vancouver, B.C. and is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of British Columbia, to discuss the role of virtual reality training and surgical simulation in orthopaedics.Virtual Reality (VR) training is impacting orthopaedics for both residents and educators. The ease of access and affordability of virtual reality education allows residents to practice and be better prepared in the OR, while also allowing the educators to assess the resident's performance and teach them the best habits and actions to operate at the highest level. While typical training methods give haptic feedback to residents, virtual reality allows both haptic and real data feedback to assess competency. In addition to the different types of feedback that VR provides, it also can help foster mentorship both live or on demand, which helps promote a synchronous learning experience for the mentor and mentee. Dr. Goel expresses his excitement and optimism about the future role that VR and AI will play in the world of orthopaedics to provide the best training to future orthopaedic surgeons.
Gravity isn't real? Actor Terrence Howard was a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, making some very powerful statements—like that gravity isn't real, at least the way mainstream science understands it. Howard claimed that 1x1 doesn't equal 1, the periodic table needs a complete overhaul, and our understanding of mainstream math and science is wrong (or is so old it needs to be looked at again). He also said that he held certain patents for Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technology, as well as a few other claims. Some have called his interview a psyop, some have praised him for coming forward, and most of the mainstream media has blasted him as being anti-science for all of these claims. But do they hold any truth? Terrence Howard began his acting career in 1992 and has starred in movies such as in Iron Man, Mr. Holland's Opus, Dead Presidents, and the TV series Empire. So why is an actor making these bizarre claims, and does he know something we don't? Well, Ben and Rob from Edge of Wonder took a deep dive to figure it out with some good old fashioned fact checking. What Ben found was shocking: Certain studies, news reports, and mainstream scientific findings are actually more based in theory than in fact. Tune into this Friday Night Live to dive deeper into the age-old question of gravity, the theory of relativity, and so much more.
