Lorrie Boyer and Nick Papagni, “The AgMeter” discuss the Waters of the US (WOTUS) rule under the Clean Water Act with Mary-Thomas Hart, Chief Counsel of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA). Thomas-Hart highlights that farmers and landowners have faced 14 iterations of WOTUS since 1972. Recent developments include EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin's announcements on enforcement and a 30-day Request for Information. The Supreme Court's 2023 decision declared the significant nexus test unconstitutional. NCBA aims to ensure EPA aligns with the Supreme Court's intent. Thomas-Hart emphasizes the importance of public comments and collaboration with agencies like the US Army Corps of Engineers and USDA to avoid unintended harm to cattle producers. The discussion on the Ag Net News Hour continued on the Waters of the US under the Clean Water Act, emphasizing the need for clear definitions to avoid federal jurisdiction over agricultural land. California's water issues were highlighted, with concerns about water allocation and environmental policies favoring fish over human needs. The conversation also touched on the potential benefits and risks of genetically modified soybeans and corn, noting that 90% of soybeans and corn are genetically modified. The debate includes the impact of GMOs on human health and the role of the Food and Drug Administration in ensuring food safety. In the last segment, Nick Papagni and Lorrie Boyer discussed the growing gray wolf population in California, which has led to cattle depredation, prompting a local emergency in one county. Between October and December 2024, wolves killed 19 cattle in rural counties. The issue mirrors that in Colorado, where wolves were reintroduced via a ballot measure. The conversation highlighted the challenges farmers face, including financial losses and the fear of reporting losses due to potential harassment from environmentalists. California has a $3 million compensation program for non-lethal deterrence measures.

Episode #264 Michelle Perro M.D., Glyphosate In Girl Scout Cookies Hello Health Heroes! This week, I spoke with Dr. Michelle Perro, a medical doctor who famously exposed the presence of glyphosate—a harmful, gut-disrupting chemical—in Girl Scout Cookies. Recently, a woman filed a lawsuit against Girl Scouts of America, bringing Dr. Perro’s work into the spotlight. This is hardly new territory for Dr. Perro: years ago, she uncovered how genetically modified foods (GMOs) can wreak havoc on human health. Determined to raise awareness, she launched GMOscience.org, an educational platform highlighting the risks of processed foods. Meanwhile, disinformation campaigns have already surfaced, insisting that glyphosate is safe to consume in small quantities. Keep in mind, however, that glyphosate was originally developed to clean the interiors of metal tanks—yet it’s now sprayed onto our food. Let that sink in. Share this interview so we can expand our grassroots movement and continue sparking meaningful change together. Enjoy the show! Love & Light Coach Tim p.s. Find out how to lose visceral fat by avoiding the 6 foods that prevent belly fat loss. In this video, I'm going to tell you what NOT to eat to lose belly fat. Avoid these foods if you want a flat stomach!Visceral fat surrounds the organs and keeps your body in a state of inflammation, preventing fat loss. Avoid these 6 foods that prevent fat loss. 1. Low-fat yogurtLow-fat yogurt is typically high in sugar and often contains industrial food starches like modified food starch, modified corn starch, or maltodextrin. Starch is not sweet, so people consume much more than sugar. It's higher on the glycemic index than sugar and is used to add bulk to a product. 2. Processed meat Hot dogs contain industrial sugars such as corn syrup that will spike blood sugar. Adding sugar to meat creates advanced glycated proteins. Organic grass-fed beef hot dogs are a good option!3. Atkins products These products are marketed as low-carb and keto-friendly but contain very low-quality ingredients such as soy protein isolates, seed oils, GMOs, and synthetic fibers. These can cause bloating and diarrhea and also prevent fat loss.5. Juice Many products marketed as “juice” often only contain minimal amounts of fruit juice and have high amounts of sweeteners, such as high-fructose corn syrup. Juice from concentrate is devoid of nutrients. Fructose found in fruit juice can only be broken down by the liver, which can contribute more to a fatty liver than glucose. 6. Agave nectar This sweetener seems healthy but is very high in fructose, which is hard on the liver. Coconut sugar and honey are better options but should be avoided when focusing on fat loss. 7. MayonnaiseProcessed mayo is mainly composed of soy oil. This type of fat is stored in the fat cells and isn't burned by the body as quickly as saturated fat. Seed oils like soy oil may be at the root of chronic disease.

If you're tired of being misled at the grocery store, this episode is a must-listen!  Key Takeaways:There are only seven GMO crops: Corn, soybean, canola, sugar beets, alfalfa, cotton, and potatoes—plus some papaya, pink pineapple, and summer squash.Non-GMO labels are often misleading: There's no such thing as non-GMO salt, wheat, oats, dairy, or oranges, but companies use this label to charge more.GMOs contribute to inflammation and autoimmune diseases: Many processed foods made from GMO corn, soy, and sugar beets can damage gut health and trigger immune responses. The government subsidizes unhealthy ingredients: Grains, seed oils, sugar, and dairy products are mass-produced because they're cheap, not because they're healthy. How to actually avoid GMOs: Buy organic, shop the perimeter of the store, and check ingredient lists—not just marketing claims.Use the Read the Labels app: Scan foods at the grocery store to instantly see if they contain sneaky inflammatory ingredients.

We spend about 90 percent of our lives indoors, yet the air inside our homes and offices is often far more polluted than the air outside. Volatile organic compounds—better known as VOCs—are constantly emitted by furniture, cleaning products, and even the very walls around us. Formaldehyde, benzene, toluene—these chemicals sound like something you'd find in an industrial park, but they're actually in the places where we eat, sleep, and work.  Well, what if nature could give us a hand here? What if plants, and even microbes, could be supercharged to clean our air at a level that truly makes a difference? That's exactly the mission of today's guest: Patrick Torbey, CEO and co-founder of Neoplants. His company is using synthetic biology to enhance houseplants and their soil microbes with built-in air purification superpowers.  Right now, they are offering microbial powders called Power Drops to mix with water and sprinkle onto the soil of your own houseplants to super-charge their air purifying capacity. I already ordered mine and am using them now.  They also offer Neo Px, which is their all-in-one plant and microbe duo, including a Marble Queen Pothos.  The bottom line is that they claim their technology can make plants up to 30 times more effective at cleaning the air in our homes and offices than the plants we currently have today.  Their systems don't just filter air pollution but actually metabolize it into harmless compounds. In this episode, Patrick and I have a wide-ranging conversation about topics like synthetic biology, science fiction, nature vs. nurture, and of course, how his company's tech will both make money and make the world a better place. Already the company has raised more than $20 million in venture capital, with more still yet to come.  So, if you've ever wondered how science, business, and sustainability can come together to solve a problem hiding in plain sight—or in this case, plain smell—you won't want to miss this conversation.  Discussed in this episode You can order Neoplants' microbes for your houseplants' soil here. Our past podcast episodes with Pivot Bio (nitrogen-enhancing microbes) and Living Carbon (rapid-growth trees). Patrick discussed how reading Cosmos changed his life. There was also a 1980 TV Series by Sagan called Cosmos and an updated remake in 2014 by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Patrick discusses how China is planting forests outside cities to improve air quality. Patrick recommends reading science fiction, leading Paul to recommend a book he recently read, Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. More about Patrick Torbey Patrick Torbey is the co-founder and CEO of Neoplants, a Paris-based synthetic biology startup, engineering plants' genomes and microbiomes to have a positive impact on the air we breathe. Patrick has a PhD in genetic editing from ENS Paris, his expertise spans molecular biology, biotechnology, and entrepreneurship. He drove Neoplants R&D efforts for many years as CTO, and is now leading the company. Patrick is passionate about taking the “fi” out of “sci-fi.” He is fascinated by the potential of deep technologies to change the world for the better, and convinced that we need more and better GMOs to face the challenges of today in a sustainable way.

An overdue check-in conversation with Dan Barber,  chef, co-owner of Blue Hill restaurants and co-founder of Row 7 Seeds, where we dive into the fascinating world of seeds and how breeding is evolving with the explosion of AI and other technologies. No, we don't need GMOs, CRISPR, or other risky blunt instruments. We discuss the implosion of the fake meat hype, which was at its peak when we last spoke four years ago, why insane umami flavor and potentially self-nitrogen-fixing tomatoes are revolutionary. This is a deep conversation about bread and wheat—and why breeding wheat specifically for whole meal flour is so important, where Row 7 Seeds, his seed company, is headed and why they're launching a CPG brand using pressure-cooked vegetables (because processing isn't a dirty word). When your vegetables come from incredible seeds and are grown in healthy soils, you don't need unhealthy additives. We kick things off with mouthwatering winter spinach and dive into a long conversation about the role of technology in food and agriculture. No, we shouldn't go back to the past. No, we're not Luddites. In fact, Dan is incredibly bullish on the role of AI in natural breeding—perhaps the best of both worlds, enabling faster breeding for local conditions rather than global crops that lack flavor, nutrients, and rely on excessive chemicals.Get ready for a firehose of stories on food, seeds, soil, and culture!More about this episode on https://investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/dan-barber-2.==========================In Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food podcast show we talk to the pioneers in the regenerative food and agriculture space to learn more on how to put our money to work to regenerate soil, people, local communities and ecosystems while making an appropriate and fair return. When I started low tox life, for years I'd get excited when, say, Campbell's soup or Hershey's would announce they were banning GMOs from their products… or when M&M's announced they'd stop using petroleum based colours. “We're winning” - but were we? In recent years I'm way less excited when mega corporations change their recipes to be better - even though it is still a good thing - it's not a slightly better ingredient list on an ultra processed ‘gluten free' cheesy puff that's going to make us healthier and our planet more resilient. Nope. What excites me is food systems change - less sexy, less algorithm eye-catching and way more complex/multi-faceted It also requires YOU and ME to do the majority of the work for that change. It's more regenerative, healthy farming methods, family farming, small-holder support, localised food, access to cultural/ecologically sound foods that is going to radically change both planet and people's health. And so… it's why I find wonderful farmers and authors like @stephanieandersonwriting who tell farmer stories and explore systems change, to bring powerful conversations to the show for us to think about what really matters most. My conversation companion for this week's show is Stephanie Anderson, acclaimed author and social justice journalist. With a background in creative nonfiction, a deep understanding of regenerative agriculture, and years of exploring the intersections of equity and sustainability, Stephanie brings a fresh and thought-provoking perspective to the critical issues shaping our future with her first book “One size fits NONE” and new book, From the Ground Up: The Women Revolutionizing Regenerative Agriculture (The New Press, 2024). It's a powerful exploration of the women who are leading a transformative movement in agriculture, reshaping systems and inspiring hope in the face of environmental and societal challenges. THE LAST THING STANDING BETWEEN A CHILD AND AN INDUSTRY FULL OF CORRUPTIONS IS A MOM. -RFK JR. Today in Truth Talk, Sandra Daher and I talk about the hopes we have for the health of our country under the potential leadership of Robert F Kennedy Jr should he get confirmed by the US Senate this week.  Here are MAHA's hopes and we dish on which we are the most passionate about! 1. Focus on Vaccine Policy Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is known for his strong stance against vaccine mandates and his outspoken criticism of certain vaccine policies. As the head of HHS, he could likely work to shift the agency's approach to vaccines, particularly by pushing for more stringent safety reviews and questioning the role of pharmaceutical companies in vaccine approval. His work with the Children's Health Defense organization has been centered around advocating for vaccine safety, so any initiatives he would pursue might focus on reforming vaccine policy and increasing transparency in the industry. 2. Alternative Health Approaches Kennedy Jr. has often expressed skepticism toward conventional medicine, particularly around topics like environmental toxins, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and other health risks tied to industrial practices. If he were in charge of HHS, he could push for greater emphasis on environmental health, reducing exposure to pollutants, and promoting natural health alternatives. 3. Focus on Environmental Health One of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s long-standing passions is environmental advocacy, especially around water pollution and climate change. At HHS, he might prioritize public health policies that tie environmental factors, like air quality and water safety, to health outcomes. This could lead to increased regulation of industries that contribute to pollution and further promotion of clean energy and sustainable practices. 4. Focus on Transparency and Accountability in the Healthcare System Kennedy Jr. has been critical of what he sees as the undue influence of pharmaceutical companies and big healthcare corporations over public health policies. He may work to increase oversight and transparency in drug approvals, healthcare funding, and potentially challenge practices like the over-prescription of certain medications. 5. Public Health Messaging His position on vaccines and other health issues suggests that he might push for more critical discussions around public health guidelines.  6. Mental Health Initiatives   What are some simple ways we can do something to help this cause?  Ask Questions Vote with your dollars… buy real food, skip seed oils, dyes, GMO foods, Teach your family! Get ready for an eye-opening conversation with the legendary Joel Salatin, founder of , as we dissect the future of the food supply and economy in the United States. Joel brings his trademark wit and wisdom to a discussion about economic scenarios like recession and hyperinflation, using a wasp nest analogy to predict how these challenges could impact food production. From deficit spending to potential government interventions, we explore the instability that might arise and the resilience needed to navigate such uncertain times. We also dive into the world of direct food sourcing, emphasizing the importance of cutting down on ultra-processed foods and fostering connections with local farmers. Learn how to fortify your food supply by exploring farmer's markets, community-supported agriculture, and even backyard gardening. This episode offers practical tips on cultivating your own food oasis at home, turning ornamental gardens into edible landscapes that boost both sustainability and self-sufficiency. Finally, we explore the ethical dimensions of food production, from the rise of non-GMO farming to the humane treatment of animals. Joel shares his unconventional yet sustainable farming practices, emphasizing stewardship over ownership and the role of faith in his life. In a conversation that moves from local to global, we touch on the role of consumer choice in supporting farmers and fostering a healthier ecosystem. Join us for insights that span from the farm to the table, with an emphasis on collaboration and growth in the food industry. ------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter Timestamps (00:16) - The Future of Food Supply (10:24) - The Benefits of Direct Food Sourcing (18:36) - Direct Food Sourcing and Self-Sufficiency (25:23) - Respecting Animals in Food Production (40:13) - Culinary Philosophy and Sustainable Farming (51:52) - Networking in the Food Industry ----------------------------------------------   Chapter 1 The Future of Food Supply 00:16 This chapter features a compelling discussion with Joel Salatin, the founder of Polyface Farms, about the current state and future of the food supply and economy. We explore potential economic outcomes for the U.S. in the next five years, considering possibilities such as recession, depression, or hyperinflation, while acknowledging the unpredictability of such events. Salatin provides insights into the consequences of deficit spending and potential governmental actions like price controls, which could disrupt industries like food production. Using an analogy of a wasp nest, he illustrates the potential instability and reactionary measures that may arise from economic dysfunction, offering a thought-provoking perspective on the challenges and resilience needed in uncertain times.   Chapter 2 The Benefits of Direct Food Sourcing 10:24 This chapter focuses on the importance of reducing the consumption of ultra-processed foods and establishing a direct connection to your food sources. We emphasize the significance of opting for local farmer's markets, community-supported agriculture, and even direct shipments from farms like Polyface Farms, which offers nationwide delivery. The conversation highlights the benefits of decentralizing food systems to enhance resilience against disruptions, like those seen in 2020. We also explore how individuals with backyard spaces can start growing their own food by planting what they enjoy eating, considering both perennials like berries and orchard trees, and annuals like vegetables. The chapter suggests utilizing raised beds for child-friendly gardening and promoting edible landscaping to replace ornamental plants with those that provide food, thereby maximizing the utility of garden spaces.   Chapter 3 Direct Food Sourcing and Self-Sufficiency 18:36 This chapter takes us on a journey through the historical and contemporary implications of food security, using the backdrop of Anne Frank's story to illustrate the resilience of rural communities during crises. We explore how the ability to source food directly from the countryside provided a lifeline during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam and consider parallels to modern urban vulnerabilities. The conversation shifts to discussing the significance of maintaining a well-stocked pantry and staying healthy to mitigate the impact of societal disruptions. Attention is given to the prevalence of GMOs and additives in modern diets, encouraging listeners to seek out non-GMO foods and support local farmers. By becoming patrons of clean, sustainable agriculture, individuals can play a crucial role in enabling farmers to thrive and reduce reliance on supermarket chains.   Chapter 4 Respecting Animals in Food Production 25:23 This chapter examines the growing trend of non-GMO farming and the impact of consumer choices on the food system, emphasizing the importance of supporting non-GMO products to promote healthier ecosystems and sustainable practices. We discuss the potential health implications of additives in industrial food products, such as antifreeze agents in ice cream, and how discerning consumers can identify more natural alternatives. Additionally, we explore the ethical considerations surrounding animal farming, highlighting the differences between industrial and small-scale operations. The conversation touches on the respect and care smaller farms tend to have for their animals, which may contribute to higher quality meat that cooks faster and retains better texture due to reduced stress and adrenaline levels in the animals. This discussion underscores the interconnectedness of food production, consumer choice, and environmental and ethical considerations.   Chapter 5 Culinary Philosophy and Sustainable Farming 40:13 This chapter explores the journey and philosophy of Joel, a self-proclaimed "lunatic farmer," who has embraced unconventional farming practices that prioritize ecological sustainability over traditional methods. Joel shares how he has been marginalized by the conventional agricultural community, drawing parallels to political figures like RFK Jr., and how he has chosen to embrace his outsider status with humor and resilience. We delve into Joel's holistic view of farming, where he emphasizes stewardship over ownership, viewing land and livestock as God's creations that require responsible management. His approach has allowed him to remain unaffected by global events like the fertilizer crisis following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Joel also touches on the importance of faith and family, describing himself as a Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist, and underscores the need for cultural appreciation and collaboration. This narrative concludes with a reflection on the positive atmosphere of a Ron Paul conference, contrasting it with more divisive gatherings.   Chapter 6 Networking in the Food Industry 51:52 This chapter focuses on a conversation where I express my gratitude for a guest's participation and apologize for exceeding time limits. I offer my public relations expertise and access to a broad range of press contacts, particularly in the farm and libertarian freedom sectors. The guest, who frequently participates in various podcasts covering topics from business to food, expresses interest in the contacts I can provide. I conclude by reaffirming the positive experience of the exchange and extending my support through sharing valuable media connections, thus aiming to enhance future opportunities for both of us.   Joel Salatin, Polyface Farms, Food Supply, Economy, United States, Recession, Hyperinflation, Wasp Nest Analogy, Economic Scenarios, Deficit Spending, Government Interventions, Direct Food Sourcing, Ultra-Processed Foods, Local Farmers, Farmer's Markets, Community-Supported Agriculture, Backyard Gardening, Edible Landscapes, Sustainability, Self-Sufficiency, Ethical Dimensions, Non-GMO Farming, Humane Treatment, Sustainable Farming Practices, Stewardship, Faith, Consumer Choice, Food Production, Resilience, Collaboration, Networking, Public Relations, Press Contacts, Positive Experience
