Hello and welcome to episode 157 of the ACPG Podcast. In this episode Ben is zooming with Matt Corby. A solo artist from Australia. We're in the middle of a little run of Austrialian artists. Shame we couldn't record these in person in Australia. But you know, small details. Matt and Ben talk about his new album, Everything's Fine, playing live and Australian idol. The album was recorded at his own Rainbow Valley Studios with long time collaborators Alex Hendrickson and Chris Collins, and pop-writing savante Nat Dunn(Charli XCX, Tkay Maidza, Rita Ora). Together they drew out the sounds that make 'Everything's Fine' Matt Corby's most accomplished record yet. A sonically adventurous rumination on all of life's big stuff, it's a record that pulls together a decade of musical threads and production nous to reveal a body of work that glides even deeper into Corby's RnB roots, while embracing aspects of vintage funk, hip-hop and playful soft rock motifs. We hope you enjoy this episode and we promise normal service will resume next week as James is back from holiday. See you in a week with Hamish Hawk.

Housing prices in the US are completely out of balance. Affordable housing is difficult to attain in entire metropolitan areas. There are few options for middle class households, and even fewer for working class residents. We need a reset on the American dream. From one that is sprawling, unaffordable, lonely, carbon intensive, and exclusive – to one that is community-oriented, multigenerational, family-friendly and sustainable. One that is inclusive and accessible. Perhaps most importantly, one that is climate-adaptive and resilient to events exacerbated by climate change: energy spikes, heat domes, cold snaps, and extended wildfire smoke events. In this week's episode, we'll be talking about one solution that could provide a path towards boosting middle class housing opportunities: Baugruppen.Further reading...Catch Mike Eliason's 2014 series on Baugruppen over on the Urbanist. Matthew Madden of DXN Limited talks about the state of Australian data centers and how they use autonomous mining vehicles to grow the IT industry with the edge. This is an episode of HawkTalk, datacenterHawk's series of candid one on one conversations with executives and leaders in the data center industry. If you enjoyed this episode, you can check them all out on our blog. If you'd like to know when we release future episodes, you can subscribe here. Check out our video above with Matthew Madden of DXN Solutions to get his take on the Australian data center industry. If you're short on time, check out the summary of the conversation below. Australian data center demand from international cloud providers When COVID became a global issue and a large portion of people began working remotely, they suddenly depended on the support of major North American cloud providers to conduct their virtual business. This sudden uptick in use caused these cloud providers to urgently fill the capacity that had been built in the Australian markets, so that they could provide the support to all the people now working from home. DXN is reducing latency in Australia with edge data centers Sydney is the largest city and the largest data center market in Australia. With that, the further users are from Sydney, which is on the southeast coast of the continent, the more latency they'll have. DXN has focused their efforts on an edge strategy to get the data centers closer to the users with the goal of lowering that latency gap. Autonomous Vehicles Utilizing Edge Data Centers One area DXN has seen success with their edge data centers is supporting autonomous vehicles in the iron ore mines of Australia. DXN has seen the growth of autonomous vehicle technology in Australia, where that technology is used in the iron ore mines. Trucks and excavators in these mines are mostly operated remotely and to do that, a data center needs to be nearby so the latency is as low as possible. Seeing this need, DXN stepped in to offer their edge data center solution so their data centers could be placed close to the mines for these autonomous and remote-controlled pieces of mining equipment. Tracking DXN and the rest of the APAC market As we at datacenterHawk are excited as we continue to grow and expand our global data center industry information, we look forward to tracking DXN, the Australian data center markets, and the future growth of the APAC region. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date on the data center industry.
Crew members of an overseas cargo vessel were granted shore leave in Taranaki despite not completing Covid-19 isolation protocols. Taranaki District Health Board's sign off meant that more than 20 Chinese nationals sailors were able to disembark the Yangtze Flourish and wander the streets of New Plymouth. The crew hadn't met the required 14-day isolation period because the ship picked up an Austrialian pilot to negotiate the Torres Strait on 15 November. That should have set the Covid-19 clock back to zero but when the ship arrived ten days later in New Plymouth, it, along with its crew, cleared customs. Billy Preston is the managing director of Phoenix Shipping, which handled the Yangtze Flourish's visit to Port Taranaki. He says problems for the Chinese sailors started on arrival in Taranaki when truckers and stevedore's decided for themselves that the crew shouldn't leave the boat.

Sears Canada employees are seeking a continuation of their health benefits through to October as the company restructures under creditor protection. The request is one of several motions being heard today at the Ontario Superior Court which granted Sears creditor protection. The motion says $7.6 million in discretionary retention payments for key employees should have a lower priority than the claims by employees who have been laid off or given notice that they will lose their jobs without severance in the coming months. Do they have a shot? Guest: Marvin Ryder. Business Professor, DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University. WestJet CEO Gregg Saretsky sent an email to employees warning against unionization of airline staff. A spokeswoman for WestJet confirmed the authenticity of the email, adding that it is part of an effort to ensure staff are “armed with facts.” The email specifically aims at union dues, saying thatemployees would pay $16.6 million a year if the unionization is successful. CUPE is saying that the email is, “way out of whack.” The unionization drive comes at a time of rapid growth for the airline. Guest: Christo Aivalis, Queen's University, Labour and Political History Professor. Austrialian mommy blogger Constance Hall wants people to know that she swears in front of her children and that she doesn't care. Hall insists that her kids haven't picked up the habit. Happy 4th or well 5th of July! In Episode 14 we messed up a little, like true Americans aka idiots, and celebrated way too hard by forgetting to post this on Tuesday AND screwing up the episode number in the intro -- we're sorry but JUST wait until you have a listen to this fun ep. Jessica and Kelly ring in America's birthday with their pal, non-American/actually-Austrialian, Tyler Stephenson to get stoned and talk about Independence Day 2: Resurgence. It was just as shitty as you thought, because no Will Smith and I guess plot and everything else that goes with a good movie. But it is still a really fun episode and makes you realize -- hey maybe if aliens invaded in 1997 we would have a female president by now. Enjoy!
