She is currently the Deputy Director of the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research at the NIH. Dr. Hunter has her PhD in clinical psychology, and before working at the NIH, she served in active duty in the Air Force for 10 years. In this episode, she tells us about her unique career path and shares her perspective on the future of medical care, especially as it pertains to mental health. Hosted by Abby, a biomedical engineering undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University, the show interviews incredible women in STEM, solving problems in STEM. ~In this episode, I interview not one, but TWO, awesome biomedical engineering faculty members at Vanderbilt University: Patricia Russ, PhD, and Amanda Lowery, PhD. In addition to teaching, Dr. Lowery leads teams to modify toys for children with disabilities, and Dr. Russ develops diagnostic devices for HIV and tuberculosis for low-resource settings. Dr. Russ and Dr. Lowery met when they both came to Vanderbilt and have been great friends ever since, and that dynamic makes this interview even more fun.
