In Chinese Medicine, the term shen is used to refer to what is most often translated as spirit. In Chinese culture, this term, shen, can refer to deities or spiritual beings but also to the light of the stars. In it's universalized form, it may be more akin to what we might think of as the Holy Spirit in the West. Setting aside the extent to which that may or may not be true in the context of Chinese culture and metaphysics, I'd like for you to keep that comparison in mind. Dr. Edward Neal and other acupuncturist scholars sometimes refer to the shen as a “template of light”, which informs and organizes all things into harmonious and coherent patterns of expression. Again and again, in this field of study, we are faced with various synonyms which seem to point at the same, ultimate reality, which supervenes upon what we think of as this material world of form and is, in fact, the source from which it springs. Click here to view the transcript of this episode. What models do we think with when we approach the subject of intention? What's the grammar and the syntax of this kind of work? Does it even matter? In this episode, you're going to presented with some food for thought – in the form of an intentional, musical theory of reality. I'm not necessarily positing that these ideas are true, merely that they may be helpful to think with. Let's try the (New) age-old energywork exercise: with your intention, form an “energy ball” between your hands – or even simply between two fingers. Expand it. Compress it. Move it. Play with it. What does it feel like to you? And even more importantly, what in the world are you doing? ... Let's jump right to 40,000 feet. As discussed in the blog (particularly here), the phenomenon of life can be thought of as some sort of macro-scale, structured-water, quantum-information-organizing symphony of light, sound, and electromagnetism. It utilizes the natural crystalline properties of water to extract energy from the ether (“quantum vacuum fluctuations”) in order to live and to adapt. In fact, it even begs the question: Which comes first? What we call “life”, or these apparent properties built into the physical structure of water at the molecular level? And for that matter, why stop there? After all, the whole thing is working together. As Nassim Haramein often says, “the whole thing is talking.” Read the full transcript of this episode here. It often occurs to me while studying English translations of Daoist alchemical texts that I am a Westerner who can not read or speak the language in which these texts were written. That said, these texts seem to carry a message that transcends the very language from which they sprang into life, much less the cultural maxims. Appreciate for a moment the fact that these texts can be considered a form of “scripture” – even though this means something quite different to the Westerner. Many of the authors of these texts are revered as xian, or “immortals” Read the full transcript of this episode here. Intentional healing is a practice available to everyone. Many systems of intentional healing, or energwork - as it's often called, treat the hands as being points of "emission", "projection", or "emanation" of some kind of energy. Rather, in intentional healing the hands or any point in space can serve simply as a placeholder for the intentional focus of awareness. The only thing emanating is the expression of a singular, universal reality according to our perception of space-time - flow. Another way of saying this is: God emanates. Humans take part. This is why in intentional healing we say, "it's not you". Read the full transcript of this episode here. There is no accepted definition for energy, other than those that refer to electromagnetism or energy's relationship to matter (like, for instance, E=mc^2). Since the dawn of quantum mechanics in the early 20th century, interpretations of reality in terms of the information that makes it up appear more and more appropriate. This is what's referred to as a digital physics, and there's many iterations of this theory in contemporary physics. Read the full transcript of this episode here. In my last couple episodes, I've begun "laying the foundations" (that's a Daoist alchemy joke) for some concepts regarding our actual, physical interaction with the Dao. What has always been understood in all cultures under mystical pretense is now the purview of a unification between physics and biology. One that – if appreciated with an appropriate sense of wonder and an open heart – affirms for us the limitless spiritual power that is built into the reality in which we live. A power in which we play an important part. Read the full transcipt of this episode here. “Qi is to electromagnetism as steam is to water.” – Eileen McKusick, Founder of Biofield Tuning Eileen McKusick states that what we call “subtle energy” in the West, is “really a form of diffuse magnetism” or “a diffuse magnetic fluid”. (I would add to that – superfluid.)
