In South Dakota, distance running rarely comes with a spotlight.Mikah Peters earned one anyway. The Brandon Valley senior spent years quietly building belief, never assuming he'd be the best guy on his own team, let alone a national contender. Progress came slowly. Intentionally. Through seasons of patience and an offseason obsession with getting better. In November, that belief finally crystallized. Peters won the SDHSAA Class AA State Championship in 14:54, breaking Simeon Birnbaum's long-standing state meet record. The season didn't stop there. After falling from glory at NXR Heartland, Mikah earned the Golden Ticket and lined up at the inaugural Brooks Cross Country Nationals in Balboa Park. Against the deepest field of the year, he raced with composure and control, finishing 20th overall to earn All-American honors on the sport's biggest stage. The performances mean more in context. One year earlier, Peters passed out while leading the state meet, battling illness and extreme heat. The season ended abruptly. That moment lingered. It reshaped how he thought about trust, execution, and what championship racing actually demands. As Mikah said: "The desert teaches you more about water than the ocean ever will."If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following The Sunday Shakeout on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and leaving a five-star review. In this episode, Cindy Esliger addresses perfectionism and why the drive to be perfect quietly sabotages us, fuelling procrastination and self-doubt. The pursuit of flawlessness seems like a noble quest, but it proves to be a cleverly disguised trap that delays progress and increases our stress. What is the alternative to perfectionism? Cindy explains that sustainable excellence is what we should strive for over perfection. It's a balance of ambition with self-compassion that protects our mental health and rebuilds confidence. Perfectionism becomes a loop that urges us to set impossibly high standards, feel anxious about meeting those standards, avoid the task due to the pressure we created, finally get the task done in a panic, and then, exhausted, still believe we could have done better. Flawlessness is damaging and drives us to constantly outdo ourselves. Cindy points out five ways in which perfectionism messes with our performance, well-being, and career growth: 1. Expectation, escalation, and burnout, 2. Mental health fallout, 3. Inconsistent performance, 4. Refusal to delegate, and 5. Plateaued growth. Cindy advises that we shift our energy from being perfect to being more strategic. She explains intentional imperfection and how it involves choosing where to be excellent and where to be average on purpose. She offers five strategies for moving away from the perfectionism trap: 1. Use time, not outcome, to set boundaries, 2. Get honest about the trade-offs, 3. Practice planned procrastination, 4. Recalibrate what enough means, and 5. Intentionally choose where to excel. It's okay to want to be great, but greatness doesn't come from being perfect. It comes from showing up consistently and learning through missteps.Resources discussed in this episode:Guide to Letting GoAstronomic AudioConfidence Collective—Contact Cindy Esliger Career Confidence Coaching: website | instagram | facebook | linkedin | email Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this special closing episode of 2025, Justine Gonzalez invites you into one of the most vulnerable stories she's ever shared. Pastor Mark continued teaching on what makes a sacred community different from casual church attendance. Sacred community goes deeper and asks more of us. Real relationships don't magically appear. They take movement, effort, and intentional love. Proverbs 18 explains that if we want friends, we must show ourselves friendly. In other words, we have to participate. He shared recent Barna research showing that commitment to Jesus has actually been rising for several years. Thirty million more Americans are now committed to Christ, and the younger generations are leading the way. Men are also making personal commitments at faster rates than women. Barna asked people what matters most to them in their faith, and the top answers included prayer, learning to pray, caring for those on the margins, helping others understand God's ways, and forming healthy relationships. When people outside the church were asked what they desire spiritually, their answers were things like inner peace, hope, healing, forgiveness, purpose, and truth. People are searching deeply, and they want what God offers. But Pastor Mark also highlighted three caution signs showing where the church needs to grow.First, evangelistic passion has gone flat. Christians no longer strongly believe it's their personal responsibility to share their faith. Meanwhile, the world is hungry for hope, but only about 28 percent of believers are actually sharing the gospel.Second, young women in Gen Z are disconnecting from faith at high rates. A large portion of 18 to 24 year old females now identify with having no faith at all.Third, Boomers and Elders are only attending church about thirty percent of the time. This creates a shortage of mentors and spiritual parents for the younger generations who need them. The challenge was clear: Gen Z and Millennials need the church more often, and the older generations are needed as steady, dependable guides. If we want to be the sacred community God designed, we have to build real, cross generational relationships.Pastor Mark then invited Elders and Boomers to come forward and take a Gen Z prayer card, choosing one young person to pray for and intercede for regularly. This isn't a discipling relationship but a commitment to spiritually cover the next generation. He then walked us through Titus 2, which paints a picture of God's design for the church family. Titus is told to promote wholesome teaching. Older men are to live wisely, demonstrate self control, be worthy of respect, and model strong faith, love, and patience. Older women are called to honor God by the way they live and to teach what is good. They are to train younger women to love their families, live wisely and purely, and handle their homes with care. Young men are told to pursue wisdom. Titus himself is urged to set an example in everything so that his teaching carries weight and cannot be criticized. This passage shows a church where everyone is teaching someone, no one is left un discipled, no one drifts away, and no one sits isolated on the sidelines. No one is too old, and no one is too young. The church thrives when every generation is connected and invested in one another.Pastor Mark reminded us that generational discipleship is built into God's design for the body of Christ. It's how we leave a spiritual legacy that lasts. We inspire each other, sharpen each other, and spur one another on. Scripture tells us to outdo one another in showing honor, and honor was a major trait of Jesus himself. He also pointed out that wisdom often comes with age, but Scripture also tells young believers not to let anyone look down on them. They are called to be examples in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. Older generations are not too old to matter, and younger generations are not too young to lead. Both are called to serve each other with humility. Older believers should resist a judgmental stance, and younger believers should respect those who came before them. Older men should intentionally seek out younger men to train, and older women should intentionally teach younger women. We closed with this simple truth:The church becomes a sacred community when every generation shows up, connects, and invests in the others. That's how we grow, and that's how we build something that lasts.

Our Reimagined Life: Empowering Me, You, and Us Seeking Happiness and Self Worth
As we get close to wrapping up 2025, I've been reflecting on how easy it is to let one year slide right into the next without really noticing the growth, the lessons, or the quiet miracles that carried us. For so many years, that was my story—years blending together, a quick “Happy New Year,” and then right back into the routine. But something shifted in me over the last decade. I realized I don't want to simply exist through my years… I want to LIVE them. Fully. Intentionally. With meaning and purpose. And that's what today's episode is all about, ending the year with a WOW. In this episode, we walk through what it looks like to end the year intentionally—with reflection, clarity, courage, and celebration. I talk about writing a letter to myself to acknowledge my accomplishments, the things that didn't go as planned, the lessons I learned, and what I want to carry into the next year. I also share what I've learned about creating WOW moments on purpose: WOW years don't happen by accident. I can't wait to hear how you plan to make 2026 your WOW year! If this episode encourages you, I'd love for you to share it with another woman who might need this message, or leave a review at ratethispodcast.com/ourreimaginedlife so more can find this space and walk this journey with us. I'll see you next week. I love you.

Welcome from the snowy MN I'm so grateful for you! I hope you had a Blessed Thanksgiving Day if you are in the US! We had lots of family time and Thanksgiving and Christmas activities. I was really reflecting on this last year for us and all that we have done because of the steps God is taking us through & just how thankful I am for every single day. The intentional and slow days we are truly blessed with are surely not taken for granted. This month we have had Grandkids here for almost the whole month & all of that time with them is so special. If I was working a traditional job, I would not be available as I am now and it really got me thinking about this. Parents drop off kids for 8 to 10 hours a day 5 days a weekThey drive to a job that pays for daycare, their car and home they don't own. Then gov takes 25-40% of income which is the same Gov that created the broken food system where the cheapest calories are the ones that poison you Ingredients banned in other countries, are “totally fine” here in the US We work ourselves to death and then eat food that slowly kills us and that what we call normal. Here is our plan to opt out: We invested in skills that pay-Not another degrees, but skills we can use to work from home for our online business. We try to eat real food while keeping the price down as much as possible, which means cooking from scratch and not eating out or getting takeout. That is a very RARE occasion here. We make as many products ourselves with natural ingredients such as laundry detergents, soaps and it is usually cheaper and non toxic but with natural ingredients. We don't upgrade our cars, we drive them until they can't run anymore, not because we can't afford it, but because we value giving to causes with eternal rewards rather than looking good for others on earth. We live for deeper meaning and being the hands and feet of Jesus. We long to hear Well done, good and faithful servant. And as a result there is no rat race, just peace here because we have control over the way we live. This is our path out, 1 decision at a time I would love for you to join me on this movement of glorifying God while building a business from home and keeping an intentional life. I believe there is more to life than just running on this hamster wheel most people think is normal. The media are so busy seeing what they want to see, they miss the real picture. Take President Trump for example. I love President Trump's accessibility. And I appreciate his style. It comes off over the top, but that's how he thinks. For some, his style is off-putting, but it's Trump being Trump.Remember how unbelievably idiotic Biden was, his comments and actions, and the Left would say, “That's Biden being Biden”. Not a problem, unless he's STARTING WARS, or SELLING OUT AMERICA TO THE CHINESE!Trump being Trump means America is winning. And it means something bad is being exposed. Gratitude isn’t just an action—it’s a heart posture rooted in worship. Psalm 100:1-5 calls us to “shout for joy to the Lord” and “enter his gates with thanksgiving,” reminding us that praising God and offering thanks should overflow from our daily lives. When we intentionally create space for gratitude, whether in prayer, family life, or personal devotion, our hearts are renewed, joy is cultivated, and worship becomes a natural response to God’s goodness and faithfulness. Highlights Psalm 100 emphasizes joyful, heartfelt worship as the foundation of gratitude. Giving thanks is both an opportunity and a command—acknowledge God’s goodness in every season. Intentionally making space in your life for gratitude and prayer prevents busyness from crowding out thankfulness. Worship leads to joy: as we praise God, our hearts naturally overflow with gladness. Gratitude involves both personal reflection and communal expression, encouraging family and others to share in thanksgiving. God’s steadfast love and faithfulness span generations, giving us a secure foundation for praise. Practical tools like gratitude calendars or journals can help integrate thanksgiving into daily routines. Full Transcript Below: Psalm-Powered Gratitude for Any Season By: Laura Bailey Bible Reading: “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” - Psalm 100:1-2 NIV Recently, I purchased a magnetic calendar for our fridge to keep everyone in the family in the loop on our schedule. As a bonus to the calendar feature, there was a spot for prayer requests, gratitude, and to-do lists. For the first few weeks, I filled every section of the calendar to the brim. I invited my girls to add prayer requests, items they were thankful for, and activities they would like to do. Yet, as the weeks passed, the boxes containing our schedule continued to overflow, and eventually took over our gratitude and prayer request boxes. Oddly enough, the “to-do” section continued to grow exponentially, even though our schedule was already maxed out.As I stared at the calendar, I felt a familiar pang of Holy Spirit conviction. I knew He was gently nudging me to make some space for the gratitude and prayer request section. The reality was, my family was in an intense state of burnout, and looking at the calendar was a visual reminder of our misplaced priorities. We’d neglected to take time to offer gratitude, to linger over the many blessings, the abundance of grace and mercy bestowed on our family by a loving God. We were so internally focused that we neglected the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ. When I was little, my church choir teacher would always start our time together with Psalm 100, specifically focusing on the call to “make a joyful noise.” I am not sure how joyful we were, but we surely did take the command to “shout the Lord’s goodness” to heart. Knowing I needed some psalm-packed gratitude, I turn to Psalm 100, allowing the “Psalm for giving thanks” to penetrate and encourage my weary heart.“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” - Psalm 100:1-5 This Psalm celebrates our opportunity to come before the Lord and worship. Far too often, I take for granted the luxury to enter the House of the Lord without opposition. Most Sundays, I come before the Lord out of obligation, not opportunity, to praise and offer gratitude for all He has done. Psalm 100 is an invitation to worship the Creator of the universe. To shout for joy, to the ends of the earth, letting everyone know that God is good! When we bow before the Lord in humble submission and with an abundance of thanksgiving, our hearts will naturally overflow and produce joy and gladness. We are called to know God on a personal level, not just “know about Him,” but to seek an intimate connection to our Heavenly Father. God created us physically, but also made us a new creation in Christ — spiritually, those who’ve accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. We enter God's House with thankful hearts, giving Him the glory and honor for all things. We praise Him for He is good, His love is steadfast ( firmly fixed), and endures forever. God is faithful; He is the God of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He can be trusted to keep His promises for all generations! Meditating on this Psalm naturally leads me to thanksgiving and to praising the Lord. As I looked at my calendar, I began to wipe away the things that didn’t really matter but were taking up space in our lives and hearts. I made room to allow my family members to add all the ways the Lord has been gracious. I opened up space, so our family can petition for others in prayer. One of my favorite songs I sang in our children’s choir was a little chorus that went like this, “God is so good, God is so good, God is so good, He’s so good to me.” Let us remember that it is good, and cherish the gift of worshiping, praising, and offering thanksgiving to the Lord. Intersecting Faith & Life:Take time today to think about how you approach worship. Are you like me, prone to attend out of obligation, or is your heart joyful at the opportunity to “enter His courts with praise”? How can you keep a mindset of gratitude and praise for our Heavenly Father? Grab my free e-course, where I break down job titles, salary ranges, and employers hiring macro social workers right now. Here is the link: https://macroandpaid.com/---Social workers are living through one of the biggest career shifts our field has seen in a long time. And the truth is this: so many of you are doing work every single day that carries weight, complexity, intention, and real impact, but the way you describe your work experiences is quietly minimizing the depth of what you're contributing to the organizations, communities, and populations you work with as a case manager. In this episode of the Macro Social Work Your Way Podcast with Marthea Pitts, MSW, I walk through the three most common ways social workers unintentionally devalue their social work career experience without even realizing it. Because the truth is the tiny details you skip over. The moments you downplay. The stories you tell without telling the whole process. Intentionally or unintentionally. All of it shapes how people read your value in the job market.I'm breaking down how this shows up, how it impacts your career confidence, and how it affects how hiring managers read your experience when you're applying and competing for macro social work jobs. This conversation is honest, real, and necessary, especially for social workers who know they are ready for more significant work but have not been taught how to discuss what they've already accomplished. If you want to learn how to identify your most valuable transferable skills, translate them to macro social work employers, and position your experience to compete for macro social work jobs, work with me inside the next cohort of the Micro to Macro Career Accelerator. When life feels peaceful and marriage is running smoothly, it's easy to let your guard down—but what if those "good seasons" are actually when spiritual warfare works most subtly? In this episode, Dr. Kim and Mrs. Nancy talk about how the enemy can creep in through comfort and complacency, why couples should stay spiritually alert even when things feel calm, and how to build rhythms that keep you rooted in God and each other. From prayer and gratitude practices to regular marriage check-ins, we'll explore how to protect your marriage from drifting and use the good seasons as opportunities for growth, connection, and deeper faith. Main Takeaways: Spiritual warfare doesn't stop in the good seasons. Comfort can lead to drift if couples aren't intentional. Good seasons are opportunities for spiritual strengthening. Quotes from This Episode: Complacency is the quiet thief in marriage—it's the gradual drifting apart that happens when you think everything is okay. The enemy attacks most fiercely when we let our guard down in times of comfort; be vigilant, even in the good seasons. Spiritual battles aren't always sudden explosions. Sometimes, it's the everyday neglect that chips away at your relationship, step by step. Your marriage is always on a journey—it's either moving forward or sliding backward. Choose to advance, even if you stumble. Use seasons of peace to intentionally invest and protect your relationship. Couples' Conversation Guide: When things are going really well for us, do you ever notice ways we might start drifting spiritually or emotionally? How can we stay alert together?" Are there small habits or signs you've noticed in our marriage that show we're getting a little complacent? What could we do to course-correct? "During the good seasons, what's one thing we could start doing together—like prayer, gratitude, or reading Scripture—that would help strengthen our marriage and faith?" Use our FREE Weekly Marriage Check in Guide We gathered all 685 answers, organized them into the top 10 themes, and added 1 practical step for each theme so husbands can better meet their wife's needs.

Where in your business or relationships is the risk due to a lack of communication? In this episode, Jeff and Austin discuss: Using business to fulfill a higher purpose.Blessings and challenges of taking over a family business. Intentionally building your family business. Asking the questions and facilitating communication between generations. Key Takeaways: Start with something small and let God grow it. You'll be amazed at what occurs when you look back. If you want to bring a child into the business with you, start to loop them in even before they're fully integrated into the company, allowing them to learn and grow. Family businesses will change from generation to generation as the world changes and evolves. What matters are the values and overall mission. Don't let the business separate the relationships between generations. "Best practice, the transition is way more of a journey than an action. To make it smooth, there are so many facets to it that you have to think about ahead of time." — Austin Ochs Episode References: HBR Family Business Handbook: amazon.com/Harvard-Business-Review-Family-Handbook/dp/1633699048About Austin Ochs: Austin Ochs is a devoted follower of Jesus, a husband, and a proud father of three boys. Government Shutdown Context The shutdown lasted over 40 days, beginning October 1 and ending after a Senate vote (60–40) and subsequent House approval. A stopgap funding measure was passed to keep the government operating until January 30, while negotiations for a long-term appropriations bill continue. Political Narrative Democrats are responsible for the shutdown, accusing them of: Blocking votes to fund programs like SNAP (food stamps). Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
Are you letting anxiety and the need to play it safe hold you hostage in your relationships and personal growth? Too often, fear—of rejection, failure, or the unknown—becomes the invisible fence shaping our actions. Perfectionism, procrastination, overthinking, and the constant urge to avoid discomfort can shrink our lives, leaving us disconnected from our true selves and the people we care about most. In this episode, we explore how fear influences perfectionism, anxiety, and avoidance in our relationships and daily lives. Discover compassionate approaches to working with anxiety—learning why fighting it doesn't work, and how, instead, our willingness to acknowledge, understand, and even befriend discomfort can become a gateway to deeper connection and greater freedom. Through practical tools and real-world strategies like "uncertainty workouts," values-based action, and self-compassion, this episode aims to help you navigate the messy, beautiful process of showing up more authentically for yourself and those you care about. Dr. Patricia Zurita Ona is on a mission to help people break free from ineffective, play-it-safe patterns so they can begin living rich, purposeful, and meaningful lives. A trained psychologist, she is the author of seven books and co-author of two more. Her expertise has led her to present workshops at both national and international conferences. She also runs a boutique therapy and coaching practice that specializes in the application of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for anxiety. Passionate about her work, she delights in creating personalized resources for every client she serves. Episode Highlights 06:03 The interconnectedness of anxiety and its impact on life. 09:07 The importance of accepting anxiety instead of fighting it. 10:02 Using values to guide responses and reduce anxiety's control. 13:50 The need to tolerate discomfort in relationships. 18:53 Navigating fear of commitment and embracing uncertainty. 22:49 Building tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty. 24:32 How avoiding uncomfortable emotions can increase suffering and relates to trauma and emotional regulation. 29:52 Values-based exposure and compassionate approaches to fear. 33:41 Developing micro skills for managing difficult conversations. 35:41 Integrating self-compassion and Wise Moves for anxiety management. 38:01 Practical resources, parenting insights, and closing reflections. Your Check List of Actions to Take Take a moment to pause with a deep inhale and exhale, noticing sensations in your body before engaging in difficult conversations or when feeling anxious. Instead of fighting anxiety, recognize it as a protective part of your humanity and make room for it. When anxiety arises, ask yourself what truly matters to you in that moment to guide your response. Embrace uncomfortable feelings in relationships without avoidance, viewing them as essential for growth and authenticity. Intentionally expose yourself to uncertainty in small, manageable ways (like trying a new restaurant or activity) to build tolerance. When fear surfaces, actively choose actions that align with your core values—even if they feel difficult. Treat yourself with gentleness during moments of avoidance, procrastination, or anxiety, recognizing your effort and courage. When facing a fearful situation, pause and check in with your body and thoughts, then proceed with intentionality rather than rushing through. Things are crazy in these streets, but what if you kept your head and didn't move too much to the left and are perfectly positioned for the melt-up that is about to happen? Embracing chaos as a source for positive change is a powerful mindset shift. Instead of viewing disruption as a disaster to be resisted, you can learn to see it as the energy of possibility—a necessary period of deconstruction before a better creation can emerge. This process requires retaining hope and using the pause created by the chaos to your advantage.
