Autism Awareness Month: and I just learned my daughter has autism

In this episode (Season 1, Episode 8) I detail my journey as a mother of a (newly diagnosed) autistic daughter. In honor of Autism Awareness Month (or, more appropriately, Autism Acceptance Month), I dive into the hardships of receiving a diagnosis, differences in how individuals experience autism, and my personal experience. As a Speech Language Pathologist, I have significant history working with people on the autism spectrum, which greatly impacted the way I recognized symptoms in my own daughter's behavior. Signs of autism are often dismissed or misdiagnosed, especially in girls and women. I shine some light on why this might be the case and offer advice for parents as they enter this process. Please comment, rate and subscribe, pass this along to a friend...let me know what you think and any questions you may have. I love hearing from my listeners! Thank you!
