Episode 19 - RAD pROBcast - Matt, CEO & Founder of Tahoe Blue VodkaMatt, the CEO, and founder of Tahoe Blue Vodka joins me to discuss his decade-long journey to turn his vision into a reality of bottling the beauty and spirit of Lake Tahoe into the smoothest vodka in the world. Along the way, we discuss shoes that my wife hates, Matt's journey from Maryland to California while living in a van and having no real plan other than “making it work,” and some of his various invention ideas that never came to be, including the illuminated frisbee. As with most successful people, Matt talks about pushing aside his fears, the terrifying notion of living off of savings to build an idea, and how ten years later, Tahoe Blue Vodka is still his obsession.
My wife Christina joins me once again along with our friends Al and Danielle as we navigate the challenges of getting multiple couples together for Thanksgiving in a neutral location. Who gets what room? What do we serve? Who's making breakfast and when? From there we dive into toxic masculinity, how Christina almost got into a fight at Aftershock, why you'll see Al on TV this winter, and Maestro the German Shepherd is nice enough to interrupt and disrupt towards the end as well.
Shelby Elias from FinancewithShelby.com joins me in one of the most inspiring, motivating, and brutally honest pROBcasts yet. We discuss the secrets and keys to both of our successful lives, (personal and professional), and talk about the importance of relationships as it relates to success. We explore the things that hold people back from their dreams and the ways people can, right now, begin working towards them. Along the way, we learn about Shelby's childhood, why he doesn't have a refrigerator, why he posts pictures of his jet, the role his faith plays in his life, and there's even an emotional moment when he opens up about how his phone gets in the way of his life at times. Shelby even turns us on to two easy, do-it-right-now ideas that could catapult people towards financial success.
Episode 16 - RAD pROBcast - Squid Game Recap (Spoiler Edition)
By popular demand, my wife Christina joins me and reflects on her year of deployment in Afghanistan and how she views the events of the past few weeks. Was her service, and the sacrifices of others worth it? She also shares some stories of her time there including the moment a detainee she was interrogating got his hands on her. There are some fun moments, too, like when we demonstrate how our sofa attacked my hand and when she attempts to explain why our drinking glasses suddenly no longer fit in our cup holders.
Producer Brandon and I pick up where we left off on his most recent Prodcast and tease Brineapalooza 2021 from the jump. From there, we explore millennial anxiety, Brando's evolving view on family, and what it's like to manage people. Somehow the issue of what an amazing leader and generous boss I am is touched on, and we get Brandon to tell his “the angriest I've ever seen Rob,” story.
It's the second in our series “Money Buys Happierness,” and by popular demand we begin with the long form answer as to why I prefer leasing over buying vehicles, including the rare exceptions to the rule. From there, we discuss Investments that aren't actually investments, but people often claim they are. Most notably, morons who say that putting in a pool will “greatly increase the value of the home when we go to sell it,” a total fallacy. We talk about the difference between spending our money on things we enjoy, versus actually investing, and why the two of them almost never match up (which is ok). Boats, pools, and collectibles, are all fun to someone, but almost none of us knows someone who is independently wealthy from selling off their Beanie Babies.
My wife Christina and our friend Danielle (a maggot and former cardboard cutout) discuss the etiquette of sending unsolicited naked photos of yourself, how far we'd all go for our spouses, the trappings of being “too white,” and why it's not a compliment to say “you're pretty for a black girl.”
Eddie Ford from Nor Cal Gun Vault joins me for a deep dive into gun rights, “reasonable” gun control, and the worst of the worst on both sides of the gun debate in America. Along the way, we discuss the ramifications of taking a human life, the rising crime rate in America, and how things have changed in society as a result of Covid. Come to think of it, we pretty much solve all of the world's problems, including race relations, raising children, and how to avoid being a victim. We also delve into Eddie's 20-year naval career, being raised by a father in law enforcement, and growing up in Stockton, California and how much it's changed.
In this episode, by popular demand, we explore the notion that money buys happier-ness…if you're spending your mental energy worrying about how to pay rent, feed your family, and stay away from debt collectors, you aren't living…and you certainly aren't content. Money doesn't make people happy, but it makes every aspect of life easier, and opens you up to happiness. We discuss how any of us, no matter where we are financially, can pursue financial wellness to whatever level we want and we go over specific action plans for people drowning in debt, those simply looking to maintain their lifestyles, and anyone wanting to find the next big thing financially.
This week Dawn's husband Gary, joins me at Williams Manor for a flight of Scotches as we discuss how he feels about the nickname “dumb-dumb,” what it's like to actually live with Dawn, why both of our wives are so annoyed by our ongoing cell phone billiards tournament (including a demonstration of how the game works), and the dying art of knowing how to actually play a round of golf. We also talk about Queenie and Kyle, and end with a speed round of “greatests,” such as action movies, quarterbacks, and stand up comedians.
As my wife, Christina, and I gear up for summer vacation in Las Vegas, we discuss a recent weekend road trip that opened our eyes to just how stir crazy, socially inept, and awkward people have become over the last year of isolation. In addition to people on the road seemingly transporting dead bodies and randomly stopping on freeway onramps, we also do a deep dive into the wonders of Central California, including two of its' shiniest gems, Turlock and Modesto (and why we never need to be in that part of the state every again). If you need a little religion, there's always the Vegan World Prayer, and we give a review of one of our favorite comedians, Bill Burr, and why he should stick with comedy and walk away from the podcasting.
Chef Q from restaurant Q1227 in Roseville, California joins me for a deep dive on how you go from being the youngest of 17 children birthed by his mom, to owning one of the hottest, most acclaimed, (and delicious) spots in Nor Cal. We discuss his time in the Navy, his passion for food, slimy okra, 42-ounce tomahawk rib-eyes, and how he navigated opening a restaurant just 3 months before Covid changed everything. We discuss the business side of motivating and holding employees accountable, how you build relationships with customers, and the difference between being a Black-owned business and a business owned by a Black man. Faith, Family and Food drive this man (in that order) and it shows…oh, yeah…and we find out what the Q stands for!
Deputy Lacey Nelson is back! After winning the hearts of RAD listeners over a year ago during her first on-air appearance for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Lacey returns with a ton of surprises! She's still a cop, but she's also an elected official, and has lofty aspirations and a 13-year action plan. Other than that, not much is new; other than completion of her Master's Degree with an eye on her doctorate, a burgeoning public speaking career, and being the Community Liaison for Paint Sacramento Pink, an organization that gives 100% of campaign donations directly to the women and men of Greater Sacramento who need assistance with breast cancer diagnosis and provide Treatment, Education, Support, and Awareness.
This week, my wife Christina and I discuss the spiciness and racial identity of Sprite soda, Kyle being a creep, how many people we'd invite to a party today that were also at our wedding party just 3 years ago, toxic masculinity, her scatterbrain, Christina's recently found green thumb (which includes an appearance on the video of one of our large plants), and our reaction to a neighborhood punk-child and his equally ridiculous parents. Oh, and of course, masks.
This week, my wife Christina and I dive further into issues ranging from sex accidents, the mispronunciation of words, how fast we've driven the Corvette, road rage, guys creeping on hot girls (including her) on social media, and Christina answers her first legal question since graduating law school explaining why businesses can or can't require you to wear a mask long after any mandates exist. At the end, we ponder how much Tahoe Blue Vodka I drink before Christina ultimately coaches people on how to call into the RAD show.
Jammi from Inkoff.me helps me take a deep dive on what gives Barbara Walters sexual gratification, strange things she witnessed stuck inside of people during her years working the ER, and why her name is spelled wrong. Jammi also explains how she's raised a teenage son who DOESN'T have a social media account and she even cries at one point! OH, and we also spend some time exploring the hypothesis that some people who go to prison might actually be human beings who genuinely want and deserve a helping hand at reforming themselves and rejoining society and how that is actually the driving force behind everything they do at Inkoff.me. It's yet another reminder of the amazing family all of us in the RAD universe are and how blessed we are to be working together to live, laugh, love, and help one another.
Robstina; This week's deep dive is into the union between my wife Christina and I. How in the world can 2 people, of 2 different races and a 20 year age difference possibly be so alike? And what's it like to be married to the real-life Rob? We discuss the name of the pROBcast, the things that drive us the most nuts about each other, how we met, the difference between a living room and family room, and why playing cell phone pool with Dawn's husband has actually led to arguments (and why arguments in relationships are not only healthy, but necessary).
This week's “deep dive,” is on making money! Kinda…We go deep into the explosion of legalized sports betting across America and how to do it safely and effectively. Life-long Sports Book Director Steve Mikkelson of MikksPikks.com joins me to explain why he's switched sides and is now teaching us how to beat the books using his decades of experience. And Danny Hinkle of Tech2U and Sircles shares his family's long history in sports betting while teaching me about bankrolling and how emotions kill the average better's chances of winning.
