It's named one of the best food festivals in the Midwest and it features food we hold dear in Wisconsin… I'm talking about the Sun Prairie Sweet Corn Festival. Eighty tons of Wisconsin-grown sweet corn served with savory butter and sprinkled with as much salt as you like. The festival runs Aug. 14-18 at Angell Park in Sun Prairie. We're talking with Christina Williams, Executive Director of the Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce. She tells us that the festival has strong roots in the community and continues to give back after 71 years.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
DNA evidence can crack even the coldest, hardest-to-convict cases, including the 1998 murder of 13-year-old Christina Williams. Investigators suspected just one man from the beginning, but it wasn't until 2017 that they finally had enough evidence – through a DNA match – to make an arrest. Charles Holifield is a repeat sex offender with links to more assaults, disappearances, and murders that are still unsolved. Although there may be no such thing as “closure” after losing someone so tragically, pursuing their cases until someone is held responsible is worth it, and Christina's story is a case in point.

Another fun episode with my bestie/power partner and top ranking leader Christina Williams! This week we are discussing most frequently believed misunderstandings about both of us and what it takes to be successful! Things like: Does being smarter give you a success advantage? And how to develop wisdom. Is discipline just easy for certain types of people and painful for the rest of us? And how to start developing discipline. Are successful people that way because they simply have more capacity/energy/time/resources than others? And how to expand your capacity! Are successful people superior to most people in some way? And whats really happening when you feel intimidated by someone! Can smiling and thinking both happen at the same time? And how to fix your face. ;) You're going to laugh, you're going to learn, and you're going to enjoy this conversation. About the Show: In this podcast episode, we sit down with https://www.linkedin.com/in/cwilliams612 (Christina Williams, the Executive Director) of https://www.circlesnwa.org/ (CirclesNWA). https://www.circlesnwa.org/ (CirclesNWA) is a poverty reduction initiative of the nonprofit https://www.circlesnwa.org/innovativepovertysolutions (Innovative Poverty Solutions). The program helps people achieve upward mobility from poverty. Christina shared her story about her passion for sociology and people and her experience growing up in a diverse community in Hong Kong. Then a trip to India with her husband encouraged her to find a way to help those who cannot always help themselves. CirclesNWA has helped connect individuals in our Northwest Arkansas community to help move out of poverty. The individuals, known as Circle Leaders, are working to escape poverty. The Circle Allies, middle to upper-income volunteers, walk alongside the Circle Leaders throughout the 18-Month program. The program shows the participants how to leverage social capital. Finally, one of the biggest challenges that the program undertakes is to help participants avoid the Cliff Effect. “The Cliff Effect is one of the biggest yet hidden barriers keeping people in poverty. While a pay raise or new job should be a cause for celebration, too often for low-income households, earning more is a risky move that can result in having less. The Cliff Effect disincentivizes economic growth, a strong workforce, and job retention.” CirclesNWA is working hard to help local families reduce poverty and avoid the Cliff Effect. If you know someone locally that could benefit from hearing this episode, please consider sharing it with them. We are ALL in this together. All this and much more are on this episode of the I am Northwest Arkansas podcast. When you bank with a community bank, you're investing in local businesses, local entrepreneurs, local charities, and causes close to home. They have worked hard to earn their tagline, “Community Banking at its Best.” You may ask why bank at Signature? Because they focus on the customer instead of having a branch on every corner, you can have your questions answered by a real person, whether you're reaching out to the call center or your banker's cell phone. You can access any ATM in the country without fear of a fee. They will refund all of those fees at the end of every month. This week we're hearing from our friends at Circles NWA. It's now been nearly a full six months since the JWST was launched, and we're on the cusp of getting our first science data and images back from some 1.5 million kilometers away. There are all sorts of things we're bound to learn, from discovering the farthest galaxies of all to examining details in faint, small objects to searching for black holes in dusty galaxies and a whole lot more. But what's perhaps most exciting are the things we're going to find that we aren't expecting, simply because we've never looked in this particular fashion before. I'm so pleased to welcome two guests to the show: Research Professors Dr. Stacey Alberts and Dr. Christina Williams both join me this month, and we have a far-ranging conversation about infrared astronomy and all that we're poised to learn from exploring the Universe in the infrared as never before. If you're already excited about JWST and what we're going to learn from it, wait until you listen to this episode! (Image: Although Spitzer (launched 2003) was earlier than WISE (launched 2009), it had a larger mirror and a narrower field-of-view. Even the very first JWST image at comparable wavelengths, shown alongside them, can resolve the same features in the same region to an unprecedented precision. This is a preview of the science we'll get. Credit: NASA and WISE/SSC/IRAC/STScI, compiled by Andras Gaspar)

The Reform of Education in Jamaica 2021 Report was launched on Thursday January 14, 2022. Developed by the Jamaica Education Transformation Commission (JETC), which is headed by renowned sociologist Dr. Orlando Patterson, the Report is a blueprint for the establishment of a comprehensive strategy to improve student performance and educational productivity across the sector. The 342-page document has 54 prioritised recommendations which include governance and accountability; early-childhood education; teaching curriculum, and teacher training; tertiary education; technical and vocational education and training (TVET); infrastructure and technology; and finance. On this episode, a follow up to our previous episode on what the report has to say about secondary schools, we speak to Ms. Christina Williams, president of the Jamaica's Union of Tertiary Students (JUTS) and current law student at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. She spoke on the report's recommendations to improve Jamaica's tertiary education sector and some of the challenges tertiary students are currently facing in the wake of covid. In the summer of 1998 in Seaside California, Christina Williams left home to take her dog for a walk. Later her dog, Greg, was found coming up the road dragging his leash behind him. Immediately the hunt began for the missing girl but unfortunately her skeletal remains would be found 7 months later only 3 miles from her home. 11 years later habitual sex offender Charles Holifield would be sentenced to life in prison for her abduction, rap and murder. As my wife, Christina, and I gear up for summer vacation in Las Vegas, we discuss a recent weekend road trip that opened our eyes to just how stir crazy, socially inept, and awkward people have become over the last year of isolation. In addition to people on the road seemingly transporting dead bodies and randomly stopping on freeway onramps, we also do a deep dive into the wonders of Central California, including two of its' shiniest gems, Turlock and Modesto (and why we never need to be in that part of the state every again). If you need a little religion, there's always the Vegan World Prayer, and we give a review of one of our favorite comedians, Bill Burr, and why he should stick with comedy and walk away from the podcasting.

At the end, we ponder how much Tahoe Blue Vodka I drink before Christina ultimately coaches people on how to call into the RAD show.
