Top Stories for January 6th Publish Date: January 6th From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, January 6th and Happy Birthday to Malcolm Young I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by KIA Mall of Georgia. Lawrenceville's new downtown hotel rising ahead of schedule Lawrenceville resident kicks off new year by winning $1 million in the Georgia Lottery The Latest: US strikes Venezuela, captures Maduro and his wife All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: Kia Mall of Georgia - Sugar Hill Ice Skating Rink STORY 1: Lawrenceville's new downtown hotel rising ahead of schedule Lawrenceville’s dream of a downtown hotel has been a slow burn—years of planning, delays, and setbacks. But now? It’s finally happening, and faster than anyone expected. The Lawrence Hilton Tapestry, a boutique hotel nestled between the Lawrenceville Lawn and Arts Center, is set to open mid-2026. Or maybe even earlier. “We’re ahead of schedule and under budget,” said City Manager Chuck Warbington. Brickwork is already going up, and the weather’s been a surprising ally—minimal rain, no freezing temps. The hotel will feature 120 rooms, meeting spaces, a chef-driven restaurant (Bellfire), and a bar (Old Nick’s). Plus, 200 new parking spots in the city-owned deck below. This project’s been a decade in the making, delayed by COVID and financing hurdles. But now, Lawrenceville’s vision of a walkable, thriving downtown is finally within reach. STORY 2: Lawrenceville resident kicks off new year by winning $1 million in the Georgia Lottery Three Georgians are starting 2026 a whole lot richer—millionaires, in fact. Among them? A lucky winner from Lawrenceville, along with two others from College Park and Grovetown. Their $1 million prizes came from the Georgia Lottery’s second-chance Georgia Millionaire drawing, announced right as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s. Talk about a way to ring in the new year. The Georgia Millionaire scratcher offers $10,000 instant prizes and a shot at the big one through second-chance entries. STORY 3: The Latest: US strikes Venezuela, captures Maduro and his wife The United States launched a military operation early Saturday, capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, in a move that’s already shaking the world. By morning, he was aboard a U.S. warship, blindfolded and bound for New York to face drug trafficking charges. President Trump, speaking on Fox News, called the operation “genius” and confirmed the U.S. would oversee Venezuela’s next steps. “We’ll be involved very much,” he said. The fallout was immediate. Venezuela’s U.N. ambassador condemned the strike as a “colonial war,” while China and Russia slammed the U.S. for violating international law. Meanwhile, in South Florida, Venezuelan exiles celebrated, waving flags and chanting “Liberty!” Maduro’s capture marks a dramatic escalation in U.S.-Venezuela tensions. Trump dismissed criticism over bypassing Congress, calling his opponents “weak” and insisting the operation was necessary. “The tyrant is gone,” said Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets STORY 4: ART BEAT: Beat those January blues with exciting Gwinnett arts events Feeling the post-holiday slump? The decorations are packed away, the parties are over, and—ugh—football season’s almost done. So now what? Here’s an idea: throw on that big coat, brave the chill, and dive into Gwinnett’s arts scene. Plays, concerts, art classes—there’s plenty to shake off the winter blahs. On Jan. 11, the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra and Youth Orchestra team up for a concert at Discovery Theatre in Lawrenceville. Mozart, Strauss, and even Anderson’s quirky “The Typewriter” are on the program. Tickets? Head to www.tix.com. Prefer visual art? The Hudgens Center in Duluth has three exhibits running through January, including “Sketching with Buck,” a stunning collection of hand-drawn architectural sketches from around the world. Or maybe you’re itching to create? The Suwanee Arts Center offers classes like “Watercolor Landscapes” (Jan. 7 and 14) and “Drawing Basics” starting Jan. 17. Winter doesn’t stand a chance. STORY 5: Meet the first babies born in 2026 at hospitals in Gwinnett New Year’s Eve is exciting enough—countdowns, confetti, champagne. But imagine if Jan. 1 was also your birthday. That’s exactly the case for a few lucky babies born in Gwinnett hospitals as the calendar flipped to 2026. At 12:44 a.m., Julian Alessandro Sanchez made his debut at Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, becoming their first baby of the year. Over at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton, Brittany and Ryan Hopper of Hoschton welcomed twin boys—Koen Anthony at 4:58 a.m. and Kaden Michael at 5:14 a.m. The Hopper family even received a gift basket from the hospital’s Auxiliary and Safe Kids program. We’ll be right back. Break 3: EAGLE THEATRE Gentleman’s Guide STORY 6: Gwinnett police offering free women's basic self-defense course The Gwinnett County Police Department is hosting a self-defense program for women 16 and up, and honestly, it’s something every woman should consider. The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course isn’t just about learning moves—it’s about building confidence, awareness, and practical skills to stay safe. Over four sessions (Jan. 20, 22, 27, and 29, from 6–9 p.m.), participants will dive into risk awareness, avoidance strategies, and hands-on defense techniques. It wraps up with a live simulation—because practice makes perfect, right? Held at the Gwinnett Police Training Center in Lawrenceville, spots fill fast. Don’t wait. Call 678.442.6520 or visit GwinnettCounty.com/RAD to register. STORY 7: Norcross Grad Mason Kaplan Earns NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award Norcross alum Mason Kaplan just added another impressive accolade to his already stacked resume. On Saturday, the Illinois State linebacker snagged the NCAA FCS Football Elite Scholar-Athlete Award—one of the most prestigious academic honors in college football. Here’s the deal: this award isn’t just about being good on the field. It’s for the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the finals site of an NCAA championship. And Kaplan? He’s rocking a 4.0 in grad school, studying the psychology of sport and physical activity. Oh, and he’s also president of ISU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. What’s wild? Kaplan started his college career as a quarterback, playing two seasons at Valparaiso and one at Illinois State before an injury sidelined him in 2024. This year, though, he’s made a seamless (and dominant) transition to linebacker, helping lead the Redbirds to Monday’s FCS National Championship in Nashville. We’ll have closing comments after this Break 4: GCPL Passport Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today’s Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Public housing authorities (PHAs) are increasingly finding that common funding opportunities such as U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) financing is not meeting their operational or capital needs. With recent policy changes on the horizon that will further drain PHA resources, many are turning to programs such as Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD). On this episode of the Tax Credit Tuesday podcast, Michael Novogradac, CPA, and Novogradac partner Rich Larsen, CPA, give a crash course on the RAD program and discuss how PHAs can utilize RAD to support their public housing developments. The pair also discuss how to most effectively utilize tax credit equity, such as low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) equity, in RAD transactions.

This week I'm joined by Ben Massey, Founder of @rad_global, for a conversation that goes far beyond fitness and footwear. I'm a big fan of Ben and have long admired the way he's built RAD, choosing standards, craft and long-term thinking over hype and shortcuts. All whilst playing in one of the most difficult and competitive markets possible. In this episode, we talk about what it really takes to build a premium brand in a noisy world and the discipline required to stay true to your vision. We also explore the realities of entrepreneurship and getting started with nothing but belief and determination. Ben shares openly about the lessons learned along the way, the importance of doing fewer things better, and why playing the long game is often the hardest but most rewarding path. If you're a founder, operator or someone striving for excellence in any field, this is a conversation that will challenge how you think about building a brand.
What if the greatest mysteries of the year…weren't just the stories we covered, but the moments we shared along the way?As the year winds down and the lights glow a little softer, we're closing out the season by looking back, looking ahead, and leaning fully into the feeling that makes this time of year special. This week, we're trading deep dives for deep reflection. We talk about our favorite episodes of the season - the ones that stuck with us, surprised us, scared us, made us laugh, or just felt the most “Rad.” From strange mysteries to personal obsessions, we break down why certain stories lingered long after the microphones were turned off.We also unwrap one of the most meaningful gifts we've ever shared on the show - a copy of The Secret: A Treasure Hunt, tipped off to us by one of our listeners. A book that isn't just about hidden gems and riddles… but about curiosity, wonder, and the thrill of chasing something magical just because it's there. From there, the conversation wanders (the way it always does). We talk about what we're excited to explore next season. The stories we can't wait to tell. The mysteries still calling to us. And what the Christmas season means to us now - as dads, creators, and kids who never quite let go of that feeling. And finally, we find ourselves longing for the old days…Wandering the aisles of toy stores in the 80s and 90s.The smell of plastic and cardboard.Endless shelves. No phones. No rush.Just imagination. It's a season finale that feels less like an episode - and more like hanging out after the presents are opened, batteries half-dead, manuals spread across the floor, and time standing still for just a little while longer. So slow down.Let the memories linger. And hold onto that feeling just a little longer.Because the best treasures aren't always buried…Sometimes they're the stories we tell, the people we share them with, and the memories we keep chasing.Stay Curious.Stay Spooked.Stay Forever Rad.Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!SEE YOU NEXT SEASON (JANUARY 2026)
Raději mluví o budování důvěry a dlouhodobých vztahů. Tohle není rozhovor o číslech a strategiích.

Episode 131 strips the Jungle back to its core. No guest, no buffer, no outside energy to balance the room — just the squad in their purest form. These are the episodes where the conversations breathe, the jokes run longer, and the disagreements hit harder. When it's just the Jungle, nothing gets softened. We start where the pulse always lives: the music. 21 Savage's What Happened 2 The Streets? opens a conversation about whether street rap is evolving or disappearing, and who's really carrying that sound forward. Nas and DJ Premier reunite on “Light Years,” reminding everyone what mastery sounds like when legends refuse to age quietly. Lil Tjay's “Used 2 Love” pushes the room into emotional territory, questioning whether heartbreak records still feel authentic when vulnerability becomes a formula. Friday's “Everybody Got Somebody” adds a smoother contrast, while DaBaby's “Letter to My YN” brings the conversation back to responsibility, mentorship, and what it means to speak to the next generation. Popcaan and Sway's “Tek Time” shifts the energy global, and GloRilla's “March” closes the music run with raw momentum and presence. From there, the Jungle locks in on the culture. The Diddy documentary sparks debate over accountability, timing, and who gets to control the narrative once the damage is done. Netflix and Paramount battling for Warner Bros. opens a bigger discussion about media consolidation, power plays, and how streaming is quietly reshaping what stories even get told. The firing of Ebro and Rosenberg from Hot 97 hits close to home, raising questions about loyalty, relevance, and what radio looks like in an era where platforms rise and fall overnight. And as wrestling history approaches a turning point, John Cena's final week in the ring becomes a conversation about legacy, knowing when to walk away, and whether icons ever really get to retire on their own terms. As always, the episode settles into its most honest space with the relationship talk. The squad debates whether long-term relationships thrive more when partners are similar or when opposites force each other to grow. Personal stories surface about moments when something serious was shared with a partner — only to be brushed off — and the lingering damage that dismissal can leave behind. The conversation closes with a tough, uncomfortable question: should someone even be in a relationship if they don't make at least $50,000 a year, or is that mindset reducing love to logistics?Episode 131 is reflective, argumentative, and unapologetically real. No guest. No distractions. Just the Jungle doing what it does best — saying the things most people only think.Welcome back to the Jungle.—Subscribe: YouTube.com/@JSCNetwork_ Follow: @thejunglesquadcast Ape Loso – @apeishere_ Rad – @radical_jl Rahh – @_rahhbanks#JungleSquadCast #Episode131 #HipHopCulture #NasAndPremier #21Savage #DiddyDoc #Hot97 #RelationshipTalk #PodcastUnfiltered

This is the first of two episodes where I was a guest back in 2024 on the Partial Historians, a fantastic podcast which I suggest you check out. Over two epsiodes we discuss the places in ancient Rome linked to the Regal period, or at least tied to it by the later sources. In the first episode it's time to consider the strategic position of Rome, some of the hills, the Tiber, Pomerium and much more. Plenty of tangents ensued which were all my fault as you will hear. Dr G and Dr Rad were fab hosts and I hope you enjoy the chat we had. Thanks again to the Partial Historians for letting me share these episodes. You can find their podcast via the link and also read their books, 'Rex: The Seven Kings of Rome' and 'Your Cheeky Guide to the Roman Empire', both well worth a read. I'm keen to know your thoughts on how I came across, I was both nervy and excited and a bit manic but I think I did ok. Feel free to contact me on social media (@ancientblogger on TikTok, Instagram, Bluesky, and X). There's also the Ancient History Hound subreddit and my Ancient Blogger YouTube channel. If you are really old school there's ancientblogger@hotmail.com Reviews and such are always greatly appreciated. Part two will be uploaded in a couple of weeks. Till then, keep safe and stay well.
What if one of the most famous monsters in the world…wasn't just a legend of the mountains - but the centerpiece of a secret Cold War operation?High in the Himalayas - where the air thins, the snow never melts, and the mountains feel ancient and alive - Sherpas whisper about screams echoing across the ridgelines.About something powerful enough to snap a yak's neck with a single blow.About a creature that walks like a man… but is anything but human. For centuries, locals have known it by another name: the Yeti. This week, we ascend into the frozen heart of the Rooftop of the World to explore the legend of the Abominable Snowman — from ancient Tibetan tapestries and monastery relics, to chilling eyewitness encounters, to the famous footprints photographed on Himalayan glaciers. But the mystery doesn't end in the snow.Because in the 1950s, as the world edged closer to nuclear war, the Yeti attracted the attention of a Texas oil heir named Tom Slick — a millionaire adventurer, monster hunter, and possible CIA asset who funded multiple expeditions into Nepal, attempted to trap the creature alive, and smuggled alleged Yeti remains out of the Himalayas… with the help of Hollywood legend Jimmy Stewart.Together, we'll trace the tangled trail of folklore, footprints, secret missions, and unexplained deaths that make this one of the strangest stories we've ever covered.

The Jungle welcomes a new voice in Episode 130 as Toya Top Floor steps into the den. As the host of Unknown Plug CT, Toya lives at the intersection of media, culture, and conversation, making her a natural fit for the Jungle's unfiltered energy. Before the debates heat up, we take time to get to know her — how she built her platform, what drives her voice, and why Connecticut continues to produce conversations louder than people expect. Music opens the episode with the squad breaking down fresh drops and shifting sounds. Polo G's “High Tolerance” sparks discussion around pain rap and whether vulnerability still hits the same when success changes the struggle. Lil Uzi's “Regular” brings the conversation into individuality, evolution, and what it means to stay weird while staying relevant. A$AP Ferg's “Flip Phone Shorty” taps into nostalgia, image, and the balance between simplicity and status in today's culture. From there, the Jungle turns its attention to the headlines — and the reactions don't disappoint. Lena The Plug inviting Blueface into content territory while Adam watches sends the room into a deeper conversation about boundaries, performance, and where spectacle replaces intimacy. Juelz Santana's comments about kids not needing to know how to read ignite a necessary discussion about responsibility, influence, and how careless words travel further when you have a platform. OBJ admitting he can't make $100 million last shocks the room and opens a bigger conversation about financial literacy, lifestyle inflation, and the myths of generational wealth. And 50 Cent promoting a Diddy documentary on Good Morning America becomes less about promotion and more about power, timing, and who controls narratives in real time. As always, the episode finds its core in the relationship talk — where the jokes fade and the honesty sets in. The squad asks whether people still need to formally ask someone to be their girlfriend in an era where situationships run the game. Then comes the uncomfortable hypothetical: if your partner allows a threesome but it can only involve your pleasure and not theirs, is that really freedom or just control? The conversation deepens as we explore where honesty crosses into oversharing, and whether being too available actually kills attraction rather than builds security. Episode 130 balances insight, humor, and tension — a conversation shaped by media minds, cultural chaos, and relationship realities that don't come with clean answers. A new guest, familiar Jungle energy, and another reminder that nothing here is meant to be comfortable — just real. Kugellager?!

There is a narrative device which, when implemented, can add punch, power, and percolation to any sentence, essay, speech, play, poem. This device is called “diacope” and it is a figure of speech where a word or phrase is repeated, with one or more words in between the repetitions. RiskCellar is back with episode 70, marking a major milestone for hosts Brandon Schuh and Nick Hartmann as they dive into the most pressing insurance broker consolidation trends shaping 2025. The episode kicks off with major industry news on the Baldwin and CAC merger, a billion-dollar deal that reflects ongoing consolidation in the insurance brokerage space. While the acquisition comes in smaller than recent mega-deals, the merger creates what Baldwin calls the largest majority colleague-owned publicly traded insurance broker, signaling continued market consolidation and M&A activity that benefits independent brokers. The hosts explore critical developments in insurance technology and autonomous vehicle safety, including Tesla's recent sensor and camera upgrades designed to improve their self-driving system performance in challenging conditions. The conversation reveals how insurance industry players are monitoring autonomous vehicle advancements, telematics driver monitoring programs, and commercial auto liability trends, including the growing use of cameras and driver scoring to reduce claims. They also discuss the implications of unlimited liability insurance in the UK market and significant pricing differences in Canadian insurance, where casualty risk pricing can be 40% lower than US market rates.A major highlight involves the Rad Power bike battery recall and CPSC safety concerns, where the federal agency issued a unilateral opinion declaring all RAD batteries defective without conducting independent testing. The hosts debate the fairness of this regulatory action, noting that Rad Power faces potential bankruptcy from a million-unit recall despite only 31 documented incidents causing $750,000 in cumulative damage. The episode also covers Lloyd's of London CEO John Neal's resignation following an inappropriate workplace relationship scandal, insurance industry news on Ryan Specialty's new public sector MGU launch, Howden's aggressive hiring expansion, and a playful segment on insurance truths and lies featuring alien abduction coverage.Tesla's autonomous vehicle technology still lacks adequate camera systems compared to competitors like Waymo, delaying full self-driving capabilityTelematics and driver monitoring are becoming essential risk management tools for commercial auto liability, despite employee privacy concernsCPSC regulatory actions can devastate companies without scientific testing, raising questions about fairness and due process in product safety decisionsInternational insurance markets show dramatic pricing variations, with Canadian and UK markets offering 02:00 Thanksgiving Turkey Cooking Methods & Holiday Stories 03:30 Episode Celebration & Drinking Toast 04:35 Baldwin & CAC Merger: $1B Insurance Broker Consolidation 09:25 Ryan Specialty's Public Sector MGU Launch10:00 Public Sector Insurance Competition & School Bidding Challenges 11:15 Canadian Insurance Market & International Pricing Differences 14:15 Tesla Autonomous Vehicle Camera Upgrade Challenges 16:00 Chevrolet Diesel Truck & Frank Cruz Shout Out 16:30 Howden Hiring Expansion & Legal Costs Impact 8:50 John Neal Lloyd's CEO Scandal & AIG Withdrawal 21:40 New Zealand Kiwi Cultural Reference & Gender Diversity in Insurance 23:25 Rad Power Battery Recall & CPSC Regulatory Overreach 26:00 Battery Incident Statistics & Scientific Method Concerns 28:15 Dog Interruption & Personal Stories29:10 Don Julio Tequila & Podcast Memorabilia 31:30 Alien Abduction Coverage Predictions for 2026 32:50 Recall of the Week: Ozark Trail Camping Stove 35:25 Upcoming Guests & Litigation Funding Panel Discussion Connect with RiskCellar:Website: https://www.riskcellar.com/Brandon Schuh:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61552710523314LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brandon-stephen-schuh/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/schuhpapa/Nick Hartmann:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nickjhartmann/
What if one of the most mysterious places on Earth… wasn't in the ocean, or the jungle, or buried in some ancient ruin — but hidden beneath the frozen surface of a Siberian lake?A place older than civilization.Deeper than imagination. And stranger than anything the X-Files ever dared to film. This week, we journey into Lake Baikal — the world's oldest and deepest lake — a place so vast and so ancient it feels less like a body of water and more like a boundary between realities. For thousands of years, travelers, fishermen, explorers, and even Soviet military divers have reported things in Baikal that defy explanation:Monsters.Ghost ships.Blinding lights in the deep.Humanoids in silver suits.Vessels that vanish — and sometimes return. And a magnetic anomaly so powerful it seems to pulse with… intention.Together, we'll dive into the legends, the science, the folklore, and the straight-up bizarre documented encounters that make Baikal one of the greatest unsolved mysteries on the planet.
Kay Bunnie returns!Episode 129 brings a familiar face back into the Jungle, but this time the conversation cuts even deeper. Kay Bunnie returns to the den with more experience, more confidence, and a clearer sense of who she is — both as a creator and as a woman navigating an industry most people only think they understand. From the moment she sits down, the energy shifts. What starts as playful honesty turns into raw transparency, and the Jungle becomes the safest unsafe place for the truth. We open with an icebreaker that immediately heats up the room. Kay breaks down the turn-ons that work every time, and the squad jumps into one of the oldest debates in the bedrooms of America: what matters more — length, width, or the consistency of the stroke? The conversation sets the tone for an episode that doesn't hide, doesn't shy away, and definitely doesn't pretend. From there, we move into The Come Up, where Kay unpacks the early struggles, the judgment, and the unexpected support. She explains whether strangers or people close to her were harsher critics when she started building her brand, and how the adult industry reshaped her views on dating, love, and commitment. Then she gives a glimpse into the future: what kind of content we can expect from her in 2026, and how she plans to evolve in a space that changes fast and tests everybody who steps into it.Sex Reality Talk takes the episode into a deeper, more emotional lane. Kay speaks on the mentally draining parts of the job — the side of sex work that most people never consider. She opens up about the last fan who became emotionally attached, and how she maintains boundaries between her real self and the persona the internet thinks she is. It's honest, complicated, and eye-opening.Then it's time for the DMs, the digital jungle where anything can happen. Kay reveals the emoji men use the most when shooting their shot, and the squad laughs through the stories that follow. She also breaks down the moments when a supposed business inquiry turns into a kink request, proving yet again that the internet never fails to be unpredictable.Bag Talk is where the episode gets strategic. Kay details how her brand has grown since her last visit, the business side of her platform, and the lessons she's learned about protecting herself from scammers, chargebacks, and people trying to eat off her grind. She also shares how she makes money outside of OnlyFans, showing the full range of her hustle. The closing conversation brings everything back to the person behind the persona. Kay talks about what she's proud of that has nothing to do with adult work, the debate around whether sex work empowers women or exposes them to more harm, and the misconceptions she wants to clear up before she leaves the Jungle once again.Episode 129 is unfiltered, intimate, and boldly honest. It's a conversation that goes beyond content, beyond sex, beyond the platform — straight into the heart of a woman building her own narrative in a world that tries to write it for her.Welcome back to the Jungle.—
What's up, dudes? It's the greatest store ever to an ‘80s kid! Yes, it's Toys “R” Us, the category killer! Today we're talking the Toys “R” Us Christmas Dream Book 1985!Toys “R” Us goes all the way back to 1948, when Charles Lazarus opened a little Washington, D.C. shop called Children's Bargain Town, selling baby furniture. Eventually he pivoted from cribs and strollers to playthings. In 1957, Lazarus opened the first store under the Toys “R” Us name, built like a supermarket for toys—long aisles, stacked shelves, self-service shopping, and wall-to-wall kids' stuff.
