Marlen Reusser kennt beides: Triumphe als Weltmeisterin und Europameisterin, gleichzeitig herbe Niederlagen wie Unfälle und Long Covid. Doch Leiden gehört für sie zum guten Leben dazu. Barbara Bleisch fragt nach, wie viel Schmerz die Leidenschaft erträgt und ob Talent verpflichtet. Marlen Reussers Karriere ist in vielerlei Hinsicht aussergewöhnlich: Trotz Kindheit auf dem Bauernhof zieht es sie zur Geige und bereits mit 14 Jahren wird sie Jungstudentin an der Hochschule der Künste in Bern. Später studiert sie Medizin, und als sie sich mit Mitte Zwanzig aufs Rad setzt, fährt sie kurz darauf allen davon. Erst als 27-Jährige wird sie Profisportlerin und holt im Zeitfahren praktisch alles, was es zu gewinnen gibt: nebst dem Weltmeistertitel auch viermal den Europameistertitel, die Olympia-Silbermedaille und zwei Tour de Suisse-Titel. Doch neben den grossen Triumphen kennt sie auch krachende Niederlagen, beispielsweise als sie ein WM-Rennen aufgibt, weil sie merkt, dass ihr an diesem Tag die Motivation fehlt. Ebenso werfen sie Unfälle und Krankheiten immer wieder zurück, besonders eine Long Covid-Erkrankung zwingt sie zu einer längeren Pause ohne zu wissen, ob sie je wieder gesunden wird. Mithilfe von Hypnose, wie sie sagt, kann sie die Krankheit schliesslich überwinden und gewinnt dadurch auch einen neuen Blick auf die Medizin und den Körper. Barbara Bleisch spricht mit der Ausnahmesportlerin über den Schmerz der Niederlage, über Grenzen im Kopf, den Rausch des Tempos und die Frage, ob Talent verpflichtet.

Was muss das für ein Anblick sein, wenn du denjenigen, den du sonst im Anzug als Sprecher der Tagesschau kennst, plötzlich mitten im Winter in Badehose in einen Hamburger See springen siehst. Und genau das konnte passieren, denn so hat sich Thorsten "Thorso" Schröder auf den vermutlich härtesten Langdistanz Triathlon der Welt, den Norseman (https://www.nxtri.com/) vorbereitet.Ich finde es ja schon reichlich abgedreht, überhaupt 3,8 km Schwimmen, 180km Rad und einen Marathon zu absolvieren. Alles hintereinander ist noch bekloppter. Und das ganze dann im Fjord, bei Kälte und Regen auf dem Bike und schließlich den Lauf auf einen Berg hoch???!!! Bitte???!!! Wer denkt sich sowas aus und vor allem...wer macht bei sowas freiwillig mit?!Genau: der seriöse Herr aus der Tagesschau zum Beispiel.In Folge #231 war Thorsten bereits zu Gast und hat über seinen Weg zum Ironman auf Hawaii berichtet, und darüber, wie er das Training mit seinem Job verbindet. Darüber, wie er sich motiviert und über seine Jugend beim Fußball.Und nun ist er wieder zu Gast und es wird noch härter denn der Norseman-Bericht ist einfach wild zumal Thorsten die letzten Kilometer des Schlussanstiegs fast gar nicht mehr hätte in Angriff nehmen dürfen. Wir haben alle uns bekannten Gefahrensituationen zusammengetragen, bei denen häufig Fahrradstürze entstehen. Wahrscheinlich eine der wichtigsten Folgen, die wir je gemacht haben, da nicht jeder, jede Gefahr schon kennt oder erlebt hat. Egal ob Schotter, Regen, Glätte, Autoverkehr, Schienen und so weiter! Überall lauern kleine Gefahren, die zum Sturz führen können. Aber auch Fahrtechnik und die Technik am Fahrradselbst, also die sicherheitsrelevanten Teile am Rad können Stürze vermeiden oder zumindest glimpflicher ablaufen lassen. Wir hoffen, dass der ein oder andere genau unsere genannten Gefahren noch nicht erleben musste und durch diese Podcastfolge die Sinne geschärft werden, um das Miteinander auf der Straße, gerade auch mit anderen Verkehrsteilnehmenden, wie Autos, Fußgängern, Tieren und Kindern sicherer zu machen. In dieser Episode tauchen Christoph Strasser und Florian Kraschitzer tief in die Welt des Ultracyclings ein. Sie sprechen mit Rick Steffen, einem leidenschaftlichen Ultra Radfahrer, der seine Reise von den Anfängen im Kunstradfahren bis hin zu Siegen bei Rennen wie dem Badlands und dem Streckenrekord beim 24-Stunden-Rennen am Nürburgring schildert. Besonders beim Badlands über 815 Kilometer und 15.000 Höhenmeter musste Rick aber auch fürchterliche Rückschläge, wie zum Beispiel einen Sturz in der Wüste hinnehmen. Verletzungen und ein kaputtes Rad, mitten in der Einöde, ohne Hilfe und Versorgung - hier wurde es wirklich kritisch und Rick musste sich zuerst einmal selbst aus dieser Situation befreien. Trotz dieser negativen Erfahrung kam Rick aber ein Jahr später zurück und stelle sich dieser Herausforderung erneut, die als eine der schwierigsten auf Gravel gilt. Rick teilt seine Erfahrungen über die Herausforderungen und die akribische Vorbereitung, die für solche extremen Rennen notwendig sind. Er erzählt von der Balance zwischen Beruf und Sport, den technischen Feinheiten seines Setups und den mentalen Hürden, die es zu überwinden gilt. Außerdem haben wir ein "Feedback der Woche", das zum Nachdenken anregt, und diskutieren die Themen Schmerzmittel im Ultracycling und Müll auf der Strecke, denn hier gab es im Zuge des Badlands eine Kontroverse, die für viel Diskussionen sorgte.

To be artistic director of one of the world's great ballet companies is a daunting task. But Tamara Rojo is accustomed to pressure: as Royal Ballet, artistic director of English National Ballet, and now of San Francisco Ballet (SFB), America's oldest classical company. Tamara has the gift of making each programmes an event; the highlight of her first season at SFB was Mere Mortals, a ballet for the age of AI, which attracted a new audience to watch and party. We ask Tamara: how does she juggle all the demands of her role? And what is it like to lead a major arts organisation in modern America? Tamara Rojo is a celebrated leader and principal dancer who became Artistic Director of San Francisco Ballet in 2022. Previously, she was Artistic Director and Lead Principal of English National Ballet (ENB) for over 10 years, having also been principal dancer of the Royal Ballet. Her repertoire includes lead roles in all full-length ballet classics, as well as works by Balanchine, Robbins, Ashton and MacMillan. Her numerous awards include the Olivier Award for Best Achievement in Dance in 2017 and the Principe de Asturias Award in 2005. In 2016, she was awarded a CBE for services to dance. From countless famous cases in the USA to Australia's “Letta Me Out” doll that screams from the trunk it was found in…these aren't just bedtime stories. They're artifacts of fear, faith, and something darker.We'll explore:

Was ist typisch Liechtensteinerisch? Gute Frage! Praktisch kein Merkmal eint die Mundarten des Fürstentums und unterscheidet sie gleichzeitig von den Nachbardialekten in Ostschweiz und Vorarlberg. Es ist die Mischung, die Liechtensteinerisch ausmacht. Kleiner als Appenzell-Innerrhoden, weniger Bevölkerung als Thun – Liechtenstein ist ein Zwergstaat. Und doch birgt es eine erstaunliche Dialektvielfalt. Während die Mundarten des Liechtensteiner Oberlandes einige Ähnlichkeit mit Dialekten auf der Schweizer Seite des Rheins haben, sind die Mundarten des Unterlandes näher an den Vorarlberger Dialekten. Und der Dialekt des Walserorts Triesenberg zeigt viele Gemeinsamkeiten mit den Walsermundarten in Graubünden. Weil die Geschichte Liechtensteins, das erst seit 1719 ein souveräner Staat ist, eng mit derjenigen des St. Galler Rheintals, Werdenbergs und Vorarlbergs verwoben ist, gleichen auch die Liechtensteiner Mundarten den benachbarten Dialekten am Alpenrhein. Zum Beispiel werden beidseits des Rheins die Vokale «i», «u» und «ü» zu «e», «o» und «ö» gesenkt: «Melch», «Stoba», «Schössla». Oder altes «au» wird zu «oo», also «Staub» als «Stoob», «glaube» als «globe» ausgesprochen. Wie im Churer Rheintal wird das «K-» im Anlaut auch in Liechtenstein und in Teilen Vorarlbergs nicht zu «Ch-» wie im übrigen Schweizerdeutschen: «D Khua khunnt zum Khind.» Und ebenfalls wie im Churer Rheintal tendieren unbetonte Silben gegen «a» statt gegen «e»: «usafordara» statt «usefordere». Da Liechtenstein gerade während der letzten Jahrhunderte stärker nach Vorarlberg ausgerichtet war als zur Schweiz, haben die Liechtensteiner Mundarten einige Eigenheiten von dort übernommen, die im Schweizerdeutschen unbekannt sind. So spricht man in Liechtenstein wie in Vorarlberg vom «Gemeindevorsteher» statt vom «Gemeindepräsidenten» oder «Ammann» oder vom «Rad» statt vom «Velo». Wer es genauer wissen will und wer mit eigenen Ohren hören möchte, wie sich die Mundarten von Oberland, Unterland und Triesenberg unterscheiden, sollte sich diese Podcast-Folge nicht entgehen lassen!
