Picture it: Your scrappy little pro race team has a rough 2024. The next year, out of nowhere, you win Daytona. Then the whole gang takes its first trip to Le Mans and lands a killer finish. The rest of Jeff Braun's 2025 IMSA season was, to quote Jeff, “not that.”This one's a doozy: First, we've got INTC co-host Jeff sharing what he learned in IMSA this year. (Jeff helps run a Corvette in the GTD class, remember.) Second, we've got Sam, who made way too much coffee on tape day. He's a little rapid-fire yappy here, but hey, we're all captives to fate, fly on free bird, fútbol/racing podshow is life, right?Trophies rarely teach you something. Welcome to episode 184 of the Gnar Couch Podshow. We braved rare severe Utah thunderstorms, insane traffic, and stuffed our bikes in Corvettes this weekend to bring you Bienvenido Aguado, who shares everything from his front flip stories to how he manages to keep things fun when the pressure's on. As always, there's some friendly roasting, plenty of self-deprecating humor, and a healthy dose of just figuring it out as we go. We get into what it's really like to train for Rampage, the weirdness of telling someone your real name at a coffee shop, and weigh good vibes vs podiums. If you're here for polished interviews, you've taken a wrong turn. But if you want a look at the mountain bike scene that's raw, real, and maybe a little ridiculous, you're in the right place. Hagerty has a new show on the block - Driveway Finds! And it just so happens that its hosts/creators, Dustin Hallinan and John Brito, live a short drive away from The Carmudgeon Show studio. Chaos ensues. But maybe not in the way you'd think… === This episode is sponsored by Battery Tender. Visit https://www.batterytender.com/ and use code HAGERTY20 for 20% off. === Dustin and John are on a mission to rescue forgotten classics and bring them back to life - in various states of condition. In their debut episode for the channel, they take on John's neighbor Ernie's beloved 1968 Pontiac Firebird, a car he bought barely used and racked up over 200,000 miles with before parking it in a field back in 1984. Derek and Jason chat about project cars - particularly the subject vehicles of the next upcoming episodes in the series. Dustin and John most certainly have an affinity for American Muscle, driving to the studio in one of their latest finds - a 1963 Chevrolet Impala they recently acquired with just 72,000 original miles. But reading the room appropriately, they also bring in their 1961 Mercedes-Benz 220D with a LS swap and Muncie 4-speed transmission - used primarily for Australian style burnouts and other forms of tire shredding. Plenty of discussion also revolves around BMW E30s, E28s, air-cooled and water-cooled Volkswagens, “Skidrow” burnouts at Waterfest, Corvettes, wearing white New Balances in public, Ferrari 250s, and much, much more on this episode of The Carmudgeon Show. A Catholic priest in Pennsylvania took his parishioners for a joyride after confessing to rigging a church fundraising raffle for a Corvette Stingray. The scheme was run with unchecked authority over parish funds, enabling him to award phony prizes to friends while running up a massive $300,000 American Express tab paid by the church. This shocking case highlights the petty corruption and financial malfeasance that runs rampant when religious institutions operate without oversight, exploiting the faithful for personal gain and high-end consumer luxury. Welcome back to Chasing Stories Podcast, where we share stories worth celebrating. Today, I'd like to honor a remarkablewoman in my life — my mother, Dorothy. So, pour yourself a cup of coffee, getcomfortable, and bear with me if I get a little emotional. My mom, Dorothy Marie, was born on August 14,1948, to my grandparents Charles and Dorothy Fairfield at Orleans CountyHospital in the southern tier of New York. She grew up in a time of big changesin America. Her childhood wasn't easy. When she was still young, her motherbegan struggling with health issues, and Mom often missed school to care forher and her sisters. As a teenager, she lived with my grandfatherin California for a time. Life with him wasn't simple, and eventually shereturned home just in time for the peace-and-love era and the challenges of theVietnam War years. Before I was born, she worked as a dietarysupervisor at Columbus Hospital in Buffalo. That's where she met my father,Robert. My grandmother didn't approve—she said he was a ladies' man—but Momfollowed her heart. They married, bought their first home in the Black Rockarea, and in 1972, I came into the world kicking and screaming.Mom's life wasn't without hardships. Afterher divorce, she worked tirelessly, even sending money to help my grandmothercare for me. She later remarried, and we became a blended family. Through itall, she remained strong, determined, and full of love.I'll never forget the day, as a young boy, Iwas hit by a Corvette while chasing a ball. By some miracle, I was fine—thoughMom made sure the hospital checked me over from head to toe. She wasprotective, sometimes stubborn, but always full of love.Mom was also my greatest advocate. When Istruggled in school with learning disabilities and stuttering, she fought forme to get the help I needed. She celebrated my victories—like making the meritroll and, later, handing her my high school diploma. That was the best gift Icould ever give her.She was there for every milestone: my firstday of school, standing up for me when I was bullied, and cheering me on as Iworked through challenges. She loved my wife, adored her grandkids, and madeevery holiday memorable—even if her famous “box stuffing” was always on thetable. As the years went on, I had to return thecare she once gave me. When dementia and health issues made it unsafe for herto live alone, I had to make some difficult choices. Moving her to asenior-living community and later to rehab wasn't easy, but I kept my promiseto make sure she was safe, loved, and never alone. In those final years, I gotto be her son again instead of her caretaker, and that was a gift.Mom's life was one of sacrifice, resilience, and endless love. She cheered me on as I earned certificates, made the dean'slist, and joined the National Honor Society. She did the same for hergranddaughter, who followed in those footsteps. She was proud of us, just as wewere proud of her.Dorothy Marie came into this world kickingand screaming—and she left it the same way. But in between, she filled it withlove, laughter, and devotion.Mom, I will always love you. Thank you forbeing my mom. Icons represent ideas that are bigger than themselves.Myths are stories that represent ideas that are bigger than themselves.Archetypes are symbols of recognizable patterns of behavior.Letters of the alphabet are symbols (graphemes) that represents sounds (phonemes,) just as notes on a sheet of music are symbols that represent sounds.A role model is a personal icon, an archetype that you have chosen to emulate. The human brain loves symbols and patterns. This is why we embrace icons, myths, and archetypes. When we recognize a pattern that has been stored in our subconscious, we call it intuition. When we hear a pattern that has been repeated too many times, we call it a predictable cliché.Icons, myths, and archetypes evolve with each new generation.I was born in the 12th year of the 18-year Baby Boom generation that began exactly 9 months and 10 minutes after the end of World War II.Marilyn Monroe was the iconic sex symbol. The Statue of Liberty, Yankee Stadium, Yellowstone, and Woodstock were America's iconic places. Rolls Royce, Cadillac, Corvette, Camaro and Mustang were iconic cars. Tetris, Pong, and Pac-Man were iconic video games. The mythic stories of Baby Boomers were mostly about combat. Sometimes we fought the Indians of the Old West. Sometimes we fought the Germans, or the Japanese. We fought the Establishment. We fought for justice. Or we fought just to stay alive. And we always won.Our definitive male archetype in these mythic stories was rugged, brave, independent, and honorable. John Wayne, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery.Baby Boomer female archetypes were smart, pretty, and strong; Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Julie Andrews, Sophia Loren.Lots of movies ended with a wedding. These societal forces shaped the birth cohort known as the Baby Boomers.Gen-X was shaped by an entirely different set of icons, myths, and archetypes.Millennials had icons, myths, and archetypes that were all their own, as well. The Gen-Z cohort believes it is their responsibility to straighten out everything that the Boomers and X-ers screwed up.Gen-Alpha is determined to make their own decisions and decide for themselves what they want to do. They will be the vanguard of the next “Me” generation.Fortunately, there are elemental beliefs that bind us all together. It is upon those beliefs that successful customer-bonding ad campaigns are built. Openly name these beliefs and they lose their magic. If you claim to possess them, no one will believe you.EXAMPLES: Never claim to be honest. Just say something that only an honest person would say. Never claim to be a perfectionist. Just do something that only a perfectionist would do. Don't tell people that you are an author or a podcaster. Just give them a copy of your book. Invite them to be on your podcast. If you would win the hearts and minds of tomorrow's customers, this is what you must do:Imagine that you are standing face-to-face with three perfect customers and they are each looking into your eyes. The first one says, “Talk is cheap. Don't tell me what you believe. Show me.”The second customer says, “Tell me a true story that lets me know who you really are, including the price that you pay for being you.”Customer three says, “If you betray me after I have given you my trust, I will burn you down so hot that grass won't grow for 100 years.”Now you understand cancel culture. Frustration created it, and social media fuels it.People are looking for someone who really is...

Betty and Dan Broderick were a golden couple in San Diego, CA. He, a powerful attorney; she, a devoted, fun-loving wife and mother of four. But when Dan turned 40 he became a cliche. He bought a Corvette, fell for his much younger legal assistant, and left Betty after 16 years of marriage. Their bitter six-year divorce became the most contentious in San Diego County history, a battle over money, custody, and control. My life-changing annual event, The Summit of Greatness, is happening September 12 & 13, 2025. Get your ticket today!Check out the full episode: greatness.lnk.to/1814"The biggest lie I've been telling myself lately is that I've made it. I got to a point where I felt like I've kind of made it... but age is a number and I have more capital than I've ever had. I think I can still do it again." - Robert HerjavecHere's a man worth hundreds of millions, with private jets and luxury beyond most people's wildest dreams, sitting across from Lewis and admitting he's been living a lie. At 62, Robert Herjavec thought he could coast – that success meant he'd earned the right to slow down. But something shifted. He realized that all those material markers he'd chased, from the Corvette to the G4 to the G6 jet, were just distractions from the real question: Had he truly reached his potential? The vulnerability in his voice when he talks about wanting to feel on his deathbed that "I couldn't have done more" hits different when it comes from someone who seemingly has everything. What Robert reveals about redefining success will challenge everything you think you know about achievement. This isn't about accumulating more stuff or hitting bigger numbers – it's about the brutal honesty required to keep growing when the world tells you you've already won. His approach to handling criticism, leaving ego at the door, and finding fulfillment in the chaos of raising twins while still pursuing new ventures offers a masterclass in what it really means to live fully. If you've ever caught yourself thinking you've "arrived" or that your best days are behind you, this conversation will shake you awake.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter
