Welcome to the She Speaks Truth podcast, where I aim to speak God’s truth over you according to His word. This podcast is focused on healing, emotionally healthy spirituality, and emotional wholeness from a Christ centred perspective. Week after week we journey together through the scriptures, aiming to understand and apply what God says about us His word.
Hey Family, taking a short break to manage some transition and I will be right back! Super excited to continue season 3 with you all, it has been a beautiful journey, and I can't wait to continue! Stay tuned and stay well! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessica5112/message
Today's podcast episode is a solo podcast with yours truly! Today I discuss 4 different ways that fear shows up in our lives on a daily basis. Although this list isn't exhaustive, and these areas of fear are not aimed to be a one size fit all, these four areas seem to be a common thread among various people. So my challenge is for you to reflect on where and how does fear show up in your life and how do you navigate through it? The truth is that as humans fear will show up, but the key is to not allow it to hold us captive. Jesus comes that we may have life ,and that we may have it more abundantly, but fear takes away from that abundant living. My hope is that today's podcast sheds light and brings clarity to how fear shows up, and that the Holyspirit brings clarity on how to navigate through these various elements of fear. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessica5112/message
On today's podcast episode we are talking about overcoming fear, and joining me today is my friend and sister Cherise Lyn. This podcast episode was quite special to me because I have watched my friend do hard things and overcome fear. I have watched her climb to new levels, and come out of the shadows, so I know she is speaking from a place of truth and experience. Cherise brings us on her journey of where fear first started for her, and how fear has showed up in different areas of her life. She also gives us practical tips and tools from a biblical standpoint on how to overcome fear, and she stands in her gift of elevating and empowering us to be our best selves. Most importantly, Cherise reminds us that God is faithful in every season of our lives and on every level. Grab your notebooks and pens, and get ready for some good food and laughter. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessica5112/message
On today's podcast episode we are joined by Pastor Samuel Kenga from the Toronto City Church. On this episode Pastor Samuel shares his story of childhood trauma and how this affected seeing God as his Father. Pastor Samuel so powerfully reminds us that there is no fear in love according to 1 John 4:8, and he reminds us that our heavenly Father is for us. He also provides an in-depth and applicable teaching on loving God, loving ourselves, and loving others. Finally, Pastor Samuel shares a prophetic word that I know will be just what your soul needs in this season of healing. I am sure you already have your notebook and pen ready. I also challenge you to posture your heart to receive what the Father has in store for you. Trigger Warning: Please note that there are contents of this podcast that may be triggering for you, and it is not suitable for children under 16 years old. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessica5112/message
On Today's podcast episode we are talking about Grace! This is often a word thrown around within various contexts; and I believe that it has been both abused and underused. So today we get a rich and fundamental understanding of Grace grounded in biblical truth. Joining me on this journey of understanding Grace is my friend and brother, Pastor Rohan Samuels from Edmonton Alberta. Pastor Ro gives us a powerful definition of Grace, and reminds us that it is the most important concept in the bible; He also reminds us that Jesus Christ Himself is the embodiment of Grace. Pastor Ro also provides a rich and in-depth response to the question of why our churches have been filled with fear-based narratives and tones as opposed to being saturated and rooted in Grace. Get ready for your perspective to be shifted and to gain a deeper understanding of Grace. On today's podcast episode I am joined by Pastor Sharon Joy Witton from the Toronto City Church. During this episode we talk about the character of God. I have found that due to the unfortunate happenings of 2020, many have been left questioning God, the truth of His character, and His heart towards them. Thus, we need to be realigned, reminded, and re-introduced to the Character of God but according to His word. Pastor Sharon and I do a deep dive into the word of God allowing us to be grounded in biblical truth, and showing the heart of God for humanity through scripture. Understanding the character of God is an important element of our healing journey. When we have a healthy view of God, His heart towards us, and who He desires to be in our lives, our perspective on life begins to shift. Grab your notebooks and pens! It's going to be a good one. On today's episode I am joined by Pastor James Tyson II as we discuss Spiritual Discipline and Emotional Wholeness. We discuss being realigned with spiritual disciplines, but from a place of emotionally healthy spirituality. In our generation unfortunately many have viewed the disciplines of prayer, fasting, and the reading of the word from a legalistic place, and without a true biblical understanding of what this means in the life of the believer. Our hope that is that you walk away way with a clear biblical understanding of spiritual disciplines, and its contribution to your emotional wholeness and day to day life. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessica5112/message
On today's episode I am joined by the Purpose Coach, Nicole O Salmon, as we discuss becoming realigned and living in purpose clarity. After taking a look at our current world climate, and being in tuned with the pulse of my generation, I can feel that many need some sense of direction around what to do next in terms of purpose, plans, goals, etc. Some started the year off with great anticipation, and may have lost their spark, while others cancelled 2021 on January 1st. Here is the fire and the spark that you need to get moving. As we close out the year I believe there is a seed the Holyspirit wants to place in our hearts; it is the seed of Pace, as He is calling us to Pace ourselves. 2020 has been quite the year, and we have had to contend with a lot. We are currently still going through a global pandemic, we have seen racial injustice first hand, and we have our own personal day to day circumstances. If we're honest with ourselves it has been quite a bit to navigate. And here we are in December, getting ready for 2021. A huge aspect of emotional wholeness is realizing that you're in competition with no one but yourself, and you won't have to perform in order for Jesus to love you. Additionally, I know many of us had a plethora of goals we wanted to accomplish this year, and as we're in December some of us may be feeling down or we may feeling as though we didn't accomplish as much as someone else. On today's podcast episode I give you 5 practical ways to pace yourself, and we dig into the word of God for examples of pacing ourselves. We also do a little bible study illustrating how God wants us to pace ourselves in this context. Oh and I don't want to forget the prophetic insight! As a follow up to our live discussion on why Black women need safe spaces of healing, this week we talk about the importance of sisterhood during the healing process. We were never created to be alone or to live in silos, however, very often we are going through things alone. And the truth is we crying out for help. We go through things alone for a few reasons. First, a lot of the times we have emotional walls up, and we don't trust others to let them in. Secondly, we have been hurt by what has been coined as sisterhood, and we don't want to be the topic of anyone's group chat, or the tea everyone is sharing. Last but not least, we are afraid of being judged, or condemned if we share our experiences. Of course these are just a few, and we address these topics along with a few more . Joining me on this week's podcast are some My sister's Keeper alumni who have gone through their own healing journey, and has embraced healthy sisterhood during their process!. This conversation was both therapeutic and soul stirring! You will feel sisterhood. I Know it will bless you, and challenge you to find healthy sisterhood on your own healing journey. The church detox continues. This week I discuss the grieving process of change. For many of us God is calling us to a season of change and transition, and He is preparing us for the various emotions that we will experience when we say yes to this change. During this time, He is gracing us and giving us tools to build our internal fortitude in oder to embrace the change and the shift that will come. Change is never easy, and being outside of our comfort zone is never easy. Transition comes with its ups and downs, and sometimes self doubt is at the forefront, as we question whether or not this is God. During this episode expect clarity and expect the Lord to speak to you. However, beware that you will be challenged to step out of the boat, walk on water, and live life outside of the box. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessica5112/message
On this week's episode we continue the conversation of church detox, as we talk about The New Normal. I walk us through the importance of emotionally healthy spirituality and what that looks like in our everyday lives as believers, and for those who serve in any type of leadership capacity. I remind us of the importance of stillness and solitude, so that God can minister to our hearts. Finally, I challenge us to shift our mindsets, ensuring that our relationships with Christ are the forefront. These principles are what will empower us to bring transformation to our spheres of influence, live life out of the box, and live a life of wholeness. On this week's episode we talk about Church Detox; yes I went there. I sense that we are in a season of shifting and transition, and many are going through a detox. There has been a shift in the way we see God, there has been a shift in the way we understand church and there has been a shift in the way we position ourselves as believers as it pertains to the church. The Lord wants to first validate what you're feeling and second, He wants to reintroduce Himself to us. Jesus and the church has been presented to us in a very unhealthy way, illustrating that it is because of works why we are saved, justified, and loved by Christ. Today we shift that narrative and we begin a discussion of the "new normal" as it pertains to our relationship with Christ. On this week's Episode we continue the conversation with Dr. Joseph Smith and Ashley Keene. However, this time there is a spin on, as we transition to tools of transformation and healing. We encourage our listeners to use these tools of healing for themselves, and for others around them. Ashley provides us with tools of healing, Dr Smith speaks to how we can create spaces of healing for Black men, and I provide six soul care tips for the Black Believer. I think my favourite part of the conversation was the collective healing mantra, which states: I am healed, I belong here, I am loved, I am appreciated, I will maintain healthy resilience, and I am seen. It was such a beautiful moment of healing and restoration. So, do you have your notebook and pen? Are you positioned and ready for God to pour into you? On today's episode we talk about unlocking shame and walking in the freedom of Christ. Shame is a tool that the enemy uses to keep us from living out our fullest potential. Shame is a heavy load that we walk around with even though Christ has already set us free. Today we walk through the the definition of shame, we talk about where shame was first seen in the scriptures, and we talk about why the enemy wants to keep us bound in shame. Following, I provide some tools on unlocking shame and I talk about the two types of shame that often holds us captive. I encourage us to shift our perspective on the love of God, and have a clear understanding of that vertical relationship with Christ; His love is reciprocal and He chases after us! I remember last summer when God asked me who was I becoming? I was shocked and taken back by the question, so much so that it really challenged me to reflect. As we evolve and we talk about becoming we will often use phrases or quotes such as “I love the man/woman I am becoming, I fought to be him or her”; and of course this is okay, we should celebrate our milestones and how far we have come, but it is important that we take into account who we are becoming? Why? Because after a while we will become the contents of your soul. One of the things I that I constantly say to myself is that I do not want to be a 50 year old woman dealing with things that happened to me when I was 7 years old. I want to be healed and I will pursue wholeness in order to pass down healing to a generation to come. Today we take a look at Luke chapter 8:11-15 and Proverbs 4:23. I challenge us to examine the type of soil we are and to ensure that we are carefully, attending to and keeping our hearts with all dilegence. The Journey to Wholeness continues! One of the biggest lessons I have learned is leaning to shine the light inwards, taking into account the other four fingers that are being pointed back at me. As a result I've really learned how to, speak to, love, honour, forgive, rebuke, discipline and control the woman in the mirror. I've learned, and I am still learning how to identify triggers, and the emotions that come along with them. For example, asking myself questions, like why did that make me angry? Why did I react that way? Why am I repeating these particular patterns that bring me the same results? How can I change this? On today's episode I challenge us to ask ourselves the question "How are you?". Yes, this is a common question that we ask various people that we come in contact with on a day to day basis, but how many times do we actually stop to listen how that person actually is? And how many times have we sat with ourselves and asked ourselves the question "How are you?". Family, welcome to another part of your journey as we continue on the path to wholeness. Self-care is something that has become commercialized, merely depicted through hashtags and an instagram post. So today we take it a little deeper, today we talk about Soul Care. Soul care is taking care of our souls in a holistic way, therefore talking into account things mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Soul Care is going beyond the superficial stuff , it is digging deeper. Soul care is connecting with the core of who we are, our friends, our family, and our loved ones in an intentional and meaningful way. Why are we are talking about soul care? We are talking about soul care because it's necessary. We are talking about soul care because it is a significant part of our core identity, and who you are. How do our souls become tainted? Our souls become tainted by the things that happen to us over the course of our lives, whether there are traumatic events, hurt, un-forgiveness, abuse, or any of those things they literally sit in our souls and bleed into we are and how we live our lives. How do you practice soul care? We have to be Intentional, and we must dig deep and go beneath the surface. We have to be mindful of relationships and the people we surround ourselves with; If they don't do your soul well, then they cannot stick around. Finally, we must unplug and we must find solitude. When I was preparing for the podcast, I heard the Lord say "through this series I will unravel and put back together again". So be prepared to feel exposed, be unraveled and be put back together again. Welcome to Soul Care. Psalm 46 has easily become one of my favourite scriptures during this time. In a climate where fear, overwhelm, anxiety and despair are at our finger tips we have to remember that the word of God and His strength is also at our finger tips. Today's episode is very different from the others; today we pursue God in an intentional way. Today we worship and we intercede. Today we touch God about our mental health, today we touch God about our finances, today we touch God about our relationships, today we touch God about our faith and our trust in Him. As you listen to this podcast I encourage you not to listen to this like you would an ordinary podcast, I encourage you to sit with God in your quiet time. May you be refreshed and restored, may something special happen on the inside of you. I encourage you to grab your notebook, pen, and your bible. Today, don't be too quick to leave the presence of God. Be still and know that He is God. This is God's truth over you in this climate. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jessica5112/message
We have come to the end of our series, as we talk about the Restored Identity. On this episode we discuss how Christ has restored us and that He is calling us to live out this identity. A restored identity comes with a shift in perspective and a shift in our mindsets, it calls us to live Romans chapter 12 verses 1 and 2. Today, I challenge you to live out the principles given to you during this podcast; and I also want to challenge you to search the scriptures for yourself to have a clear understanding of who Christs says you are to Him. You are affirmed and you are perfect in His eyes, and let no one tell you differently. Your name is not brokenness, your name is not abuse, your name is not anxiety, your name is not depression. You have been reconciled onto Christ and your identity in Him is restored. Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you, I knew you"... Today on the podcast we dig little deeper into identity, and talk about our known identities. This conversation really allows us to reflect and think about the stories that we tell ourselves, therefore questioning, whose narrative are we living out? Do we live our lives on the foundation and truth of who God says we are? Or have we been listening to the serpents of our past? Think about it, what is the foundation of your identity? I am excited to dig deeper into this aspect of identity as we redefine ourselves on the basis of who God says we are in His word. All of us have experienced some sort of brokenness in our lives and along our journey, however, it is important that we do not allow our brokenness to determine how we see ourselves, and how we think God sees us. As we discuss the Cracked Mug, We will dive into what scripture has to say about us, and we will find out why we allow our cracks to hinder us from seeing our true value in Christ. I pray that this episode is a blessing to you, and if it is please let me know. I would love to connect with you! Welcome to the She Speaks Truth Podcast where I endeavour to speak God's truth over you. My goal through this podcast is to share God's truth about us as it is in His word. The strategy of the enemy is to have us believe his lies, and as a result, we do not live up to the fullest potential that God created us to be in the earth. On this podcast I will be talking about particular topics that I find are common in our generation. Some of these topics include: identity, overcoming adversity, mental health, relationships and much more. It is time for us to know exactly what God says about us in His word; it is time to live the life of freedom that were created to live. I am excited to be on this journey with you, it is going to be amazing and your life will never be the same!
