If you're a coach (or thinking about it), I wouldn't want to miss this episode! We were fortunate to have Tim Latorra on episode 10 who has arguably been one of the most successful basketball coaches in NH this past decade. Investing in yourself, the players, families, and community were something that Tim emphasised in some of the success he's been a part of. LaTorra helped lead the girls program in Sunapee, New Hampshire, D-IV, to three consecutive state titles and four consecutive championship game appearances. The Lakers set D-IV records for points scored in the playoffs (295 in 2017) and points scored in a championship game (80 in 2015) under his tenure, and finished the 2016-17 season on a 72-game win streak dating back to 2014. He now coaches at Division One Concord High School (NH) where he's already making an impact in his short time there. TIm's a teacher, leader, mentor, coach, and family man who is all in when he shows up for any job. His commitment in what he does for the communities he serves is an example that anyone looking for success should check out. We hear about the investment it takes to attract success as a coach, finding the balance between work and family, loving and always learning in what you do. #highschoolbasketball #sunapee #concord #nh #coaching #leadership #success #community #grit #perseverance #commitment
Episode 9 welcome our next guest, Adam Chick. Adam has been someone I've been able to connect with on a number of levels over the past 8+ years. Our friendship formed through the game of basketball years ago and we've experienced some highs and lows together on this journey called life. We tried to keep it focused on how we've both grown on our journeys, fun fact, we still are. We had some conversation and hear perspectives on topics ranging from basketball, technology, competitiveness and addiction.Hopefully you can find something useful, or at the very least entertaining! He's a lifelong Boston Celtics fan and someone who's passionate about the endeavors he pursues. Adam enjoyed a successful career in TV news as a writer, videographer, anchor, reporter, and producer. If it's possible to put it on the screen, he knows how to do it. He traveled the country working in Michigan, New York, Texas, and Maine before branching out on his own and founding NH ProShot. Along with running NH ProShot, he works for The Enablement Group and Mainspire where their focus is to help transform your content and create solutions that capture attention and deliver on your communication objectives. Adam's perspective, growth, and life experience are an encouragement to those seeking to find their worth in what they do! #NHProShot
Episode 8 is so ironic with how life plays out. If you checked out episode 7, it was about working towards performing some regular "maintenance" to make sure you're keeping on track with your goals and growth! Trying to keep yourself in check to help alleviate the pains of a potential hang up or so. This episode talks about the desires and temptations and how they may lead us in a direction we are trying to steer away from. Understanding triggers in your life and the importance of healing is something that is touched on as well. Progress, not perfection, is an important aspect as we journey through life. Don't be too hard on yourself and remember that if you slip up, it's not starting from scratch, it's starting from experience. Episode 7 is about taking a step back and considering how far you've come, or where you'd like to be. We've made it to the halfway point of 2021. Are you performing the regular maintenance in your life to make sure you "stay on track" or make the necessary adjustments to progress forward? Is fear of achievement or fear of failure holding you back? What can you do if you get stuck? Accountability and responsibility are important but sometimes we need to take a moment and reflect in all that we're experiencing - good and bad. Episode 6 welcomes our fourth guest, Spencer Marzouk. Spencer is currently studying at Harvard Business School which is an amazing accomplishment just by itself, and by the way, isn't just a typical program to be a part of. Besides the diverse global perspectives in the classroom, he has experience working internationally with Tupperware and prior to that spent time in Alabama working for Teach For America where he helped lead the creation of The Dream Initiative. The Dream Initiative "helps close the exposure, academic, and opportunity gaps by offering selected students with greater access to travel, mentors, networks, and tutoring. These support structures empower students to achieve their fullest potential." We hear about the importance of global perspective - especially from a leadership point of view. The idea of transformational leadership and the impact of mentors in his life are something that have a large impact in how he pursues the next step of his life. As a former teammate, our connection developed through college and it's exciting to discuss the opportunities and importance of education and how we need to be prepared (and already preparing) for the role of preparing the next generation of leaders!
Episode 5 brings in our third guest, Pat Quinn. Pat is a basketball development coach out of Long Island, New York. He works with athletes of all ages and different skill levels, including WNBA and NBA players. His work ethic speaks for itself and I would describe Pat as a "no nonsense", committed individual whose energy is infectious as he strives for the best in everything he does, especially with the game of basketball. Throughout this episode we hear about accountability and hard work while being able to focus on continual growth and the power of positivity. We hear about life lessons and the opportunities to be receptive that are all around us. A common theme you'll hear from successful people is who you surround yourself with and the environments you are putting yourself in are very important as well. One of my favorite parts of our discussion was how faith has had a huge impact in his journey and a reminder to all, that we're all human and although we may get discouraged and face setbacks, the importance of our core beliefs and finding something we love doing plays a major role in how we handle the day-to-day aspects of life. Pat's an inspiration and testimony to committing to put in the hard work in everything you do! Check out PQ Results or Basketball Results in North Babylon, NY for more information.
Episode 4 allows us to hear from our second guest, Deo Mwano. Deo is a speaker, trainer, and consultant who works with a number of individuals and organizations in New Hampshire and beyond. He runs Deo Mwano Consultancy and has an amazing story that he's been able to manifest in ways that benefit others with all types of backgrounds. Throughout the episode, we hear about the importance of self discovery, faith, and finding your self worth as you grow. Anchoring yourself in positivity, knowing yourself, and your true value is an important step into being able to not only help yourself, but help others along the way. It's important to identify commonalities as we navigate through life in order to find and be able to make meaningful connections with the idea that it's bigger than me. Deo's story is inspiring on so many levels and we only peeled back a few layers. If you want to learn more or get in contact with him, check out his website at DeoMwano.com.
Episode 3 starts off talking about some youthful experiences with being involved in sports and some setbacks that lead from high school to college. We welcome our first guest, New England College Head Men's Basketball Coach, Charlie Mason. We spend some time revisiting moments from my time as a member of the program, good and bad, and we emphasize the importance of personal growth, perseverance, and gratitude. The process of growing a culture and the importance of mentorship throughout not just a collegiate season, but life in general doesn't happen by chance. The idea of what a leader is and their impact is something we try to shed light on throughout as well. If you're someone who wants to think about the next level - whether it's as an athlete or in your professional life - maybe you want to tune in. I'm not going to be pretend to be perfect but I believe sharing some of these experiences may help you overcome an obstacle you are, or will be, facing. At the same time, maybe it will be confirmation that the path you're on is exactly where you need to be!
Episode 2 picks up talking about choices and the impact of our choices. How choices and the results can impact you short term, and over the long run. I open up about a very anti-culture viewpoint that's affected my life with some negative and positive choices made over the years, and the most important choice I've ever made. I'm not going to pretend to be perfect but I believe sharing some of these experiences may help you overcome an obstacle you are, or will be, facing. At the same time, maybe it will be confirmation that the path you're on is exactly where you need to be!
This first episode is to provide some brief background info and talk about the potential of things to come. Thanks for tuning in! I truly believe my God given purpose is to help make others better. Regardless of your background, the truth is we allow ourselves to get in our own way at times and my hope is that someone can benefit from the shared experiences from myself and future guests. We all have unique stories that make us the humans we are yet we are so intertwined in our life long walks more than we know. I believe sharing some of these experiences may help you overcome an obstacle you are, or will be, facing. At the same time, maybe it will be confirmation that the path you're on is exactly where you need to be!
